I have a big German shepherd/malamute mix, a very sweet dog but with problems around other large breeds. We adopted him 1 1/2 years ago and didn't know his temperament entirely, but noticed his aggression. I've been through at year of training with him, but still there's an occasional problem. My husband sprays this all on the inside perimeters of our house, like the window sills, bottom of doors, spots where we’ve seen bugs, etc and then we use the Ortho Home Defense Inside/Outside for the outdoor perimeters and it works GREAT. All of a sudden we have ants in our bathroom. I got this spray because I have a cat, dogs and small kids. Sprayed it twice in the bathroom and have had to keep the door closed because of the smell, and even with the door closed and the exhaust fan running you can still smell it as soon as you open my front door.

And, as others have said, since it’s oily it doesn’t dry so then the bathroom had to be scrubbed down because I don’t know if it would effect the kids or animals if it got on them but I don’t want to find out.

So yea, it effectively killed the ants within seconds, but the smell and the oil is a no go for me. I will be returning this.cody and annie b

Well, if you can figure out how to coral a bunch of flies in one place, tell them to stay where they are for a few minutes (so you can spay them several times) than this is for you. One squirt doesn’t work. I actually think they’re calling on their friends to come over and watch a crazy lady with a can. Buy 2 good, old fashioned fly shatters, enlist your child or children and pay them for each smushed fly. Have them bring you the remains so you don’t have dead fly carcasses all over your house. I have tried traps of all kind and the mice always manage to get around them. Last year I filled every spot with foam, and put some metal scrubby things in the big holes I could find. This year they actually chewed through the foam. So I covered the entire floor under my sink with 30 glue traps, they find other holes. Once I saw that something had dug into on of my plants. I had to try something else. I saw this spray, so I tried it. I like that is made with natural ingredients, cinnamon, garlic and mint. Which I have read deter mice. I spray entire can at every crevice I could find in my lower cabinets. Not one single dropping, sounds or smell of mice since. I bought this last year when I had an influx of roaches from the neighbor's house. I spent a small fortune on roach spray before I found this in Walmart. I sprayed around every thing that looked like it would hide a bug. I ran out and found 5 cans at Walmart on clearance. I bought all they had and gave part of them to the neighbors they were coming from. Within a week of spraying with the Ortho Home Defense no more bugs coming in. This insect killer product is very easy to spread in the lawn and in the garden. The package recommends watering immediately after, not sure how much of a difference it makes, but it is an extra step that I am not fond of having to do. Overall this seems to have worked well, a few days after spreading and watering the birds were loving all the bugs, grubs, and other insects that were coming out of the soil. I tried to use this around the perimeter of my home to prevent bugs from coming in the home, but it was harder to spread and I was not sure how much to use. If buying for this, I recommend a hand drop spreader for better accuracy and control.SteveD33

If you have ants, etc coming into your home, use a small paint brush to apply to cracks and areas where pests are coming in. Use it full strength, do not dilute it with anything. One good application is all that's necessary. If you see the pests again, you did not get to all areas you needed to. Watch where they go or come from and apply directly to that area. They carry it back to their nests and the nest is destroyed. This is the stuff you need.betty

Do not use this version. The battery operated sprayer does not work and they have added soooo many steps in between you can't figure out where the problem is. So to assemble, remove from side of bottle, stretch out the line and flip it into position. Press into the opening until it clicks, switch it over to on. Remove the battery tab (the cut off so the batteries don't go bad), flip out the handle, and flip the nozzle to the correct version (narrow v. broad spray–indoor/outdoor). Then press and hold the switch. Keep waiting and waiting then start trouble shooting a literal F—ing poison. From what I can tell, whatever pump they use lacks the ability to do what it was designed for, making the cool handle, trigger, sprayer, etc. useless. I have 1.33 Gals that, because of this COLOSSAL FAILURE, I need to put in a spray bottle so I can spray the outside while everyone else is asleep and it will dry before everyone gets up.Jack457

Was it a pain after awhile? Yes. But it always worked. Then someone thought they had a better idea, and made a motorized wand. Now, I understand that for the price they couldn't spend a lot of money on making the wand, but on the other hand, it's worthless if it worked. Every one I've had since they went to this new wand has failed. The motor whirs like it wants to work. I check the batteries and make sure they're fully charged. Still nothing. I used this last year and just applied it again today. Value for money, last years bottle did 3 1/2 treatments on my decent sized lawn. Last year our neighborhood had lots of issues with sod web worms. Some people lost their grass because of them. I started using this when i saw the little moths flying around, that are a sign of them. Worked so well! My lawn stayed green and healthy all year. I am in South Texas and the mosquitoes are terrible, so I don’t think it helps with them for long, but if it kills a few that’s a bonus. This spray is also very quick and easy to apply.Rosemary27

Nowhere on the label does it say to shake well before using. However, the video on this website makes a point of saying to shake well. I have applied this product three times on the thousands of box elder bugs clustered on the south side of the house. Some appear to have died, but many more are still alive. I thought the product was supposed to provide a barrier that would kill the bugs that cluster there even after the spray has dried. But there seems to be no residual effect at all. Is this because I didn’t know to shake the bottle? I kind of doubt it.Box elder

I love the Ortho products. My husband sprays this all on the inside perimeters of our house, like the window sills, bottom of doors, spots where we’ve seen bugs, etc and then we use the Ortho Home Defense Inside/Outside for the outdoor perimeters and it works GREAT. We have a really bad spider and ant problem at our house and you can really tell when it’s working. The outdoor one lasts for about 6 months and then you’ll notice the creepy crawlies starting to pop up again but then you just spray again. This one says it works for 365 days, I’ve only been using it for about a week and it does exactly what it says it does! I trust all the ortho products!! No smells or stains at all either! YIKES!! i started seeing some bugs in my kitchen at night when i turned on the light so i wanted something effective and fast acting as well as easy to use and i found it in the Ortho Home Defense Max Indoor Insect Barrier with Extended Reach Comfort Wand. I sprayed the perimeter of every room upstairs and downstairs and i haven't seen a bug since! This is the easiest and most convenient sprayer ive ever used. Its very well designed. The wand folds out easily to reach hard to get to places and lets me spray without having to bend. when im through with it i just fold it up and clip it into its own special holder that keeps it all together and compact and ready for the next use. Ok, so first thing I have to say is that they don't pack the product properly. If your going to buy it, buy it at the store! When I receive my package with this product inside it smelled terrible! The product leaked and about half was gone. Si my review of the actual product will be based on my half filled bottle. The scent is strong and it smells bad. It's easy enough to use. It did it's job of getting rid of pests. So, if you don't mind strong smelling products then this is the product for you to help with pests in the gardenLetty85

My wife is a garden fanatic. Sop much so that one of her pandemic projects was a separate garden for pumpkins, squash, and zucchini. So I built her a 2-tier 10'x20' garden to go with her main garden and all the numerous flower beds on the property. With so many areas for bugs, this Malathion product was able to handle all the garden and trees and shrubs we have and it didn't falter. Seeing as it is a concentrate as well, I was able to make this small bottle cover quite a lot of area. I don't have a Dial-n-Spray but another pump sprayer and it worked just fine. I live in Florida and flying insects are a constant problem year round. I used this product and was totally impressed! Very few insect killers can be used both outside and indoors! Some of the sprays that I have used in the past, smell very toxic. Not this product! It works well without people coughing and complaining of the chemical smell! I really like this essential oil formula, the smell is nice, way better than the chemical smell of other bug sprays. I like the flying insect killer formula being able to use it indoors and outdoors is a great thing to have in my home. I deal with a lot of flies that come in from my back yard because of animals. Once you spray the flies i do notice they do not fly again, The only issue i have is when you spray flies, it takes a long time for them to die, they continue to keep walking around for a long time after spraying. For some reason, hornets love my patio. Every Spring we wage war against each other. They build their honey-combed nests and terrorize anyone who comes onto the patio and I wind up knocking down the nest and running for my life. Well, they started early this year and were showing new gumption by flying into the house whenever the patio door is open. So I waited until the comb looked heavily populated and let them have it with burst of Home Defense. They scrambled and some flew off but others met their maker. I have tried traps of all kind and the mice always manage to get around them. Last year I filled every spot with foam, and put some metal scrubby things in the big holes I could find. This year they actually chewed through the foam. So I covered the entire floor under my sink with 30 glue traps, they find other holes. Once I saw that something had dug into on of my plants. I had to try something else. I saw this spray, so I tried it. I like that is made with natural ingredients, cinnamon, garlic and mint. Which I have read deter mice. I spray entire can at every crevice I could find in my lower cabinets. Not one single dropping, sounds or smell of mice since. I bought this last year when I had an influx of roaches from the neighbor's house. I spent a small fortune on roach spray before I found this in Walmart. I sprayed around every thing that looked like it would hide a bug. I ran out and found 5 cans at Walmart on clearance.
