This is a reassuringly robust harness. Looking at the size guide, the guidance on harness size for weight of dog shows a large overlap between small and medium. We bought the medium harness. It fitted but the underneath pad came right up to our dogs chin when she was lying down in the car, making it uncomfortable. We decided to buy the small harness to use until the dog fits into the medium one. This is MUCH smaller than the medium harness. It barely fits our dog. I have a pit/lab mix, and he hasn't been on many walks, even though he needs to to cut down a few extra lbs. I looked at the sizing chart, and he was right in between the 2 sizes, so I went with the bigger one because I wanted him to be comfortable. I dont know if size had anything to do with it, but I couldn't get it to lay flat on him. It comes with several adjustment spots, so I can make sure it fits him good. He seems to really like it, as compared to other harnesses we have used with him. The material is nice and padded, it seemed very comfortable for my dog. When we rescued our Westie/poodle mix, he had never walked on a leash and fought us to the point that we had to carry him a few blocks and then try to leash walk. This is a great harness because it is breathable and doesn't make my dog too hot. It also packs up into a small package that can be attached to a bag by the included caliber clip. This harness and kurgo enhanced strength harness we’re only car harnesses available in the store. I bought both. Reddy fit our 18# dog better. The kurgo fit like it would rub behind her legs. Reddy has a wider breast plate that looks like it would spread the crash force better. Reddy fit our dog better. What I didn’t like with Reddy was threading the seat belt through the loops. The seat buckle barely slides through the loops both latching in and unlatching. You do this while keeping the seatbelt from sliding tight. Luckily we have a calm patient dog. Kurgo uses a carabiner clip to hook harness and seatbelt together, quicker and easier. Understand that both harnesses confine the dog snugly against the seat. Our 18# dog could not sit up, the seat belt snugs harness close to the clip. She could move enough to change laying positions. We used this harness on a 1200 mile trip and will use for trips to vet. Threading seat belt through the Reddy tight loops makes it unlikely use for quick trips. The kurgo is easier for quick trips and rubbing won’t be an issue.Luabr
Very disappointed with Petco for not standing behind their product for more than 30 days. I purchased on Jan 18th and it broke March 7th. I took it into the store and was rudely told I would have to call customer service where I was offered only a partial refund. Due to their “strict policy” they wouldn’t even replace the product. It was buckled on my dog when the clasp just broke off while still clipped in the other side. This harness has been such a life saver; I wish it was available when our pup first came home! After moving out of the city, we’ve had to drive longer distances than we used to, in addition to our regular vet visits and trips to see family. Just some of the reasons we now use this harness exclusively: -Because of the method in which the harness is secured to the seatbelt, it keeps Sammie from jumping up to the front of the car while moving and prevents him from twisting himself around if he gets anxious. -The 4 points of adjustment allow us to get the perfect fit and takes away any worry that he will wiggle out and get hurt. -The ability to clip his leash on and use as a walking harness make trips in and out of the vet and stores quick since we don’t t have to constantly take it off and put it back on him. -Probably the most important, Sammie tolerates having it on really well. He doesn’t paw at it or try to get it off which we take to mean it’s actually comfortable for him The only negative we have is unfortunately a big one, and the reason for taking away 1 star. Getting the seat belt through the loop can be difficult and time consuming. This really become an issue if we need to hop out of the car on a busy road, we need to make a stop for a potty break, or if I’m getting him in and out myself in the dark/late at night. Purchased Halti harness as last resort to control large pup. Due to urgent surgery at 12 weeks of age and essential crating post-operative 24/7 (except for toilet breaks) for 5 weeks following her procedure, the critical period of training unfortunately couldn't be completed during this time frame. Bought this product for a 7 month old puppy that is still learning to walk on lead and pulls so badly on a flat collar that she starts to choke herself. Fitting of the harness was very easy and adjusting the straps very simple. The inclusion of the clasp that attaches to the collar is a very good idea as it helps center the front of the harness as well as a safety precaution if the harness comes loose. I was suprised by how well the harness worked, there was no pulling right from the start. When my puppy gets over-excited (e.g. sees another dog) she attempts to pull but is easily controlled compared to the flat collar. I find the straps need readjusting fairly regularly and as they get loose the harness becomes less effective. This could be overcome by stitching in place at correct adjustment but as my dog is still growing I don't want to do that just yet. Overall I am very happy with the harness and it suits my purpose of continuing to train my dog to walk calmly on lead without her pulling so hard that she is choking herself and possible causing damage.08cactus
Purchased this for our rescue red heeler who had never been walked on a lead at 16 months old. He pulled constantly and walks were unbearable. I bought the small harness for my excitable 2 year old cockapoo. The product was very easy to put on him, and it appeared to make him feel more secure during the car journey. The only problem I have encountered is with regards to the removing of the harness over his head due to the neck size. This is a really cute toy, and our 12-week-old puppy loved it! The problem is, however, that she was able to detach little hunks of the loofah material from the center of the starfish within just a few sessions. The label warns of this, so we watched and threw away the chunks . . . and ultimately the whole toy before she could swallow anything. Maybe a much younger puppy would do better? I purchased this for my sister in laws Westie. We are having to take her out in the car at the moment and wanted her to be safe and secure on the back seat.I measured the dog before purchase and although the chest area was a perfect size, her head would not go through the neck part, which is fixed. What a fantastic harness! My 90 pound dood is a consummate outdoorspoodle and now he can pack his own water, snacks, and frisbee thanks to the bungee cord feature. This is a wonderful harness. Zoe is a German Shorthaired Pointer and other harnesses looked as if they would make a ridge on the back of her neck…finally found this harness. One caveat, the medium I purchased didn't fit (meeting over the neck/shoulder), so went to the large which is a little loose, but working fine whether in field or town…it's comfortable, the padding is where it needs to be, works well tethered to the seatbelt coupler, she's happy, I'm happy…perhaps the medium would have stretched, but it would have been a painful experience for both of us just trying to make it meet.PollyKate

The quality is definitely worth the price. However, I have a French Bulldog with a big neck. It is very hard to get the right size. I had to order two and one does not fit because the neck section is NOT adjustable. The other one is way too big overall. It's perfect for other breeds, jurt watch out if your dog has a different body shape.Chiara
