The entire pen is secured with two included hooks and then can be configured to any shape necessary. This size should provide adequate space for small dogs to enjoy for quite play. The height of this particular size may be overkill for small dogs unless they are agile jumpers. I ordered this for my greyhound for leisurely sunning without needing a leash. I like Midwest products as the metal seems to be stronger and last longer than other brands. I have the original ex-pen I bought around 1995 – it's survived 50+ large dogs. I prefer them to crates as the dogs have more room to move around, yet they are easily configured to a smaller shape when potty training. They easier to clean than crates. They fold flat and I can store them next to a fridge or behind a furnace. They work indoors/out and are great mobile containment. For dogs living in fenceless areas (condos) ex-pens can be linked using carabiners/bolt snaps (i.e., dog leash clips) for fencing moveable for mowing/snow removal. They are great for patio surrounds. You can buy metal tops for if a dog needs more containment, but most won't if using a tall enough ex-pen. I've also bought just the metal or plastic crate pans to put under the ex-pen if needed. It is just the right size for me to use. I got it for indoor use. I have a very small poodle, she doesnt like the grass feel on her belly at all. I'm a new yorkie puppy owner. Can't let him run around doing his business, etc. The set up was a breeze! It's already put together. You just open it into the shape you want and place the 3 clips. I love the gate, which is ready to go, assembly already done for you. Comes with anchors for outdoor placement but if I had a larger dog, I would purchase sturdier anchors. These are smooth and will slip out of the ground easily if put under pressure by a larger dog. I purchased the 30" high style for the area it provided. I bought this because we just had a litter of GSDs. I will say this is very practical. You can fold and bring it to the park or even just to bring them outside if you dont have a fence. it is very portable. i wouldnt recommend this for people with large dogs. My full grown german shepard can easily knock it over or even jump over it. It comes with little pins you can use to secure it to the ground. 10/10 would recommend.Sara

do NOT use for kittens. i brought one for my kitten and he's now known as the escaping. he climbed and jumped over the gate. when i fixed that, he twisted his head and got through one of the holes. i fixed that as well and he's still somehow getting out. if you are wondering how i "fixed" that, i used mesh wiring. this product probably works great with dogs, but cats are a different story.uzziah

It will not work for a medium sized dog, I have tried to get in contact with the sellers to return 1 of the 2 that we bought, since we do have some small puppies at our training center, they will not contact me. Do not believe the picture when it shows a medium dog, it is for small dogs only.

My wife and I purchased this affordable product as a way to curtail a new litter of kittens before they became active and began exploring their new world. The package arrived quickly and essentially there was no assembly required. The only minor modification we had to undertake was adding a six inch piece of cardboard to the bottom by using tie-wraps to prevent the small kittens from sticking their heads through the 4” gaps of the fencing. We especially liked the ability to shape the enclosure in any manner we desired as the mother and her kittens are sharing our garage with our Camaro in our garage. I really wished that it had a door, but other than that it serves its purpose! I used it as a sort of gate for the driveway to keep my dog from going out when we were in the front yard. Used the clips to latch onto the existing gate and wedged the other side in-between the fence (like a sliding door(?) and it held up well.
