I want to add before I start my review that I no longer use Burt’s Bees products because I wanted something stronger for my dogs. I also originally bought this product with the intention of using it for one of my dog’s dry skin. With that being said I have a miniature poodle with severe allergies that caused him to scratch at himself until he was bleeding and scratched off the skin in multiple location on his body. He is now medicated and is a lot better with the correct products. This product did help with his allergies minimally but did help his over all coat a lot. His coat was soft and shiny after using the product and after a few weeks his dry skin that was caused by a previous product was much better. (Other groomer had a different oatmeal shampoo she carried… this groomer buys one kind in bulk and special shampoos can be brought in) He did well in terms of the new groomer and this shampoo had NO adverse reactions to the most sensitive poodle of the 4 I've had! I am sure this shampoo would of been nice but the whole order and exsperience with this company was ruined when they shipped my several bottles of shampoo in with treats made from intestines of buffalo that smell like fecal material so strongly it permeates the plastic shampoo bottles. I still can't get the bottles of shampoo I ordered to release the poop smell that premeditated the plastic bottles. So disappointed they where mailed together in same pouch! Very best natural shampoo on the market. My little morky is allergic to flea bites and if even one gets on her she will start scratching and all her hair starts falling out yntil we do something to get them off her which is usually a pill and a good bath to clean off the eggs this shampoo does exactly what its advertised to do and I hope they never stop making it. Oh and when using it from the start to finish it has a clean fresh kindve minty smell to it and leaves my little morky named sally smelling that way too for several days after her bath. It’s not a bad shampoo it didn’t seem to help with the itching thou which is why I got it but it was super gentle and left his fur nice and soft also the smell now I got it because honeysuckle usually smells really nice but this it smelt like nothing. I’m serious it didn’t even smell like soap it smelt like nothing with a VERY slight like medicated chapstick smell which ok I guess that ok but I wanted it to help my dog smell not so much like wet dog if that makes sense. Every dog has a “dog smell” and because he’s a mix his hair is like medium length and after about a week gets this waxy feeling to it and smells very strongly of like wet dog it’s not pleasant so I was hoping since this should have smelled good it would help him stop itching and help him smell better.. it did neither all it did was make his fur soft so if you want soft fur this is your product if you don’t like scents this is for you but if you want your baby to smell nice and help with his itching maybe pick something elseCheryl
Summer has just begun here in FL and it’s already brutal. If you had to endure being outside frequently, would you go out sporting your fur coat? Didn’t think so! Heat = itch here in the swampy south and solutions to this itch aren’t always easy to find. I use Burt’s Bees Dog Itch Soothing Shampoo on my English Cocker Spaniels to prevent hot spots. Their coats stay shiny and healthy regardless of the excessive heat or numerous dips in the chlorinated pool. The only con I can think of is that I can’t find a larger bottle.jenna.h
I’ve always loved Burt’s Bees products for myself, but I never knew they made products for pets. My older dog was having dander issues on her back and she also needs more assistance with grooming as she gets older. I bought waterless shampoo to use on her but I wanted to have wipes as well. They work good! They definitely help to reduce dander, don’t leave any residue, and I love that they’re gentle since my dog has sensitive skin. I've had the chance to use Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Hot Spot and Itch Relief Medicated Shampoo for Dogs and Cats on both one of my dogs and one of my cats. The product works as described when used in accordance with the instructions. After a few daily baths of our dog, she stopped scratching a spot, I suspect was Poison Ivy, that she rolled in on day. My cat was scratching a spot on her neck constantly, so I braved giving her a bath. After one bath (thankfully!), she stopped scratching the area. She's an indoor cat, so I'm not sure what caused this, as there were no signs of having been scratched or any signs of fleas. After their baths, bot the cat's and dog's coats felt better and looked cleaner. It left their coats still shiny and hydrated – not dry and frizzy. Both the dog and cat have short coats. The flip up top and bottle constructions a such that it is easy to open and close, when you are struggling to keep a cat calm or an overzealous dog still when applying the shampoo. Our dog has seasonal allergies, rye grass is the worst. We try to avoid grass on walks because just the smallest amount creates hot spots on his skin. Then the scratching is non stop further antagonizing the hot spots. We try to keep a healthy, natural diet, including supplements because he does have so many allergies. We have been using a topical ointment on hot spots, but we have stayed away from the shampoo’s for varied reasons including active ingredients. The active ingredients in this shampoo are: Lidocaine, oatmeal, and hydrocortisone. The topical ointment we have used has Lidocaine and hydrocortisone. I know oatmeal is very soothing for itching, so we decided to give the shampoo a try. About 24 hours after the first bath, we saw significant improvement on the hot spots. They were actually shrinking and covering up. Our pup stopped scratching and was able to actually get some rest. This is quit impressive considering how miserable he has been. We have two wild and rough housing shepherds. We live out in the boonies and run them in the morning, through the rugged desert trails. This time of year there are stickery little pesky plants that attach themselves in between toes, dog tails, and under bellies – not to mention all over my pants & socks. I noticed that the younger pup was chewing her arms to the point of it being raw. I like that this product has Coconut Oil Based Cleansers, Colloidal Oatmeal, and a touch of Hydrocortisone…. We decided to give it a shot, as we were fairly certain that her itchiness was likely due to tearing through the tumble weeds. As I was soaping her up, I noticed that the product had a nice mild, clean scent. It had a wonderful, silky, creamy consistency, and lathered up gorgeously. I lathered and rinsed just the one time, towel dried her, and kept her inside for a few hours. Once she was mostly dried, I brushed her outside and was amazed at how soft and clean her fur felt. My Chihuahua mix, half miniature poodle has itchy skin and allergies and he white dog, I have learned white dogs tend to have skin problems, delicate skin and coat. This is better than pricey vet shampoo! I say this because our 3 year old lab mix is sensitive to the season changes and with that being said he has quite a few hotspots throughout the year. We went to the vet the very first time it happened and received some allergy meds. Now they did work in the long run (we had to give them to him for about two weeks) but it didn’t necessarily help his skin—the itching, scratching, and biting. We have had Vetoquinol medicated shampoo in the past but it’s so expensive, anywhere from $25-$35 a bottle. So I did some research on medicated shampoos and came across this one. I was skeptic because it is on the cheaper end and you know how that sometimes goes haha. Needless to say I’ve never actually had a product cost less than half the price and do what a name brand does. It cleared up his skin in a few days (using it twice a week) until the spots were gone although he did get relief the very first time we bathed him in it; which is such a wonderful thing to witness when your dog is visibly struggling. Just please don’t stop making this product and carrying it Walmart!!! We depend on it!!! So sorry I don’t have before and after photos for you to see for yourself but just buy it, you will not be disappointed plus it will save you SO much money.
My dog has been having such problems with his skin, super itchy and has always been very sensitive. He licks a lot and creates hot spots etc… After he got an infection and we had to put a cone around his head this has helped sooooo much to clear up his skin condition! I recently received a sample of the Vetericyn Foam Care Medicated Shampoo to try. I have 3 small short hair dogs that have dry skin issues in the cooler months. I was able to put the shampoo to the test after my little guys decided to roll on some dead critter out in the back 40. They all came in tails wagging and smelling like week old road kill. First off, the spray nozzle on the Vetericyn Foam Care is a great idea! This made bath time so much easier. You can spray the foam shampoo exactly where you need it. No more filling your hand or slopping shampoo on the pup's back. There is no heavy medicated smell from the shampoo. It almost instantly killed the horrendous odor the dogs had. After they all got dried, there was no odor or any sort of medicated smell. They all smelled like puppies again. I like the fact the Vetericyn Foam Care leaves a neutral smell. I also have not noticed the normal itching from the cold weather. I give tha Vetericyn Foam Care Medicated Shampoo an A+. I will definitely continue to use this product on my pups. I like this product. I really like the design of the bottle and how it is a spray/foaming formula. That really does make the shamooing process easier, although, once I had sprayed it a few times, I don't think my dog was a fan of the spray noise. I have to give my dog a bath daily with Chlorohexidine shampoo due to his severe allergies. It's the only thing that really helps topically. I did use this in addition to the Chlorohexidine, and I feel like it helped some with drying out his rashes. Unfortunately, there's only so much I can do to help my dog with allergies. I haven't found a cure or anything that gets rid of the redness, flaking, and itching he has. Because of the spraying option, this is easier to use for getting on his belly/under his legs. I think it's an effective product, just not sure how effective since my dog has a chronic allergy issue. It has a nice smell as well! Clean but not fruity or overwhelming. This shampoo is not only so easy to use, it's been such a good product to use overall! The foaming spray makes lathering so much easier since I don't have to spread a gel shampoo so much just to make sure it doesn't sit mostly in one spot. The shampoo didn't seem to overdry my dog's coat or skin, but it was really good at removing all the dirt either way. Because it's a foaming shampoo, it also washes away so much more easily which saves me time and effort with washing her. She smelled so clean and her fur looked so healthly after the first use! I was even more surprised that her clean scent basically lasted all week despite her repeated rolling around in the grass and on carpets. I couldn't stop petting her and sniffing her fur! I started using this shampoo 12 years ago for my Akita who was highly allergic to fleas. This was the ONLY product that would calm his hot spots and give him relief. I recently tried this on my elderly hound dog who came down with some type of skin disorder after a day of hunting. I have been using this wonderful shampoo for over 10 years and have found it quite helpful in all sorts of skin problems, in particular dogs and cats with contact allergies known as atopic disease, the most common allergic skin condition seen in pets. Some of these contact allergens can be simple house dust mites, molds, grasses, trees, danders and pollens, depending upon the time of year. I find that those clients who have pets with these type of contact allergies(seen as pets with dry, itchy skin/feet or ears) benefit tremendously from regular shampooing with a product like this, up to once and even twice weekly during the bad allergy seasons for some pets. This shampoo is a natural oat grain derived product with a special type of technology in manufacturing it that can help for several days even after shampooing one time. It is moisterizing and soothing for those pets with dry and itchy skin or can be used as a maintenance shampoo in pets with normal coats. When used regularly in those pets with contact allergies, along with some of the excellent nutritional supplements from 1800petmeds including omega 3 fatty acids, and antioxidants like proanthozone, animal guardians can often cut down dramatically on their vet bills as well as sometimes the need for stronger prescription drugs or shampoos. I have not seen any side effects with this product. My overall rating of it from my 10 years experience is a 5. Its efficacy a 4.5. Ease of use a 5.
My shiba ink has dry flaky skin. We have tried a lot of shampoos and cream rinses, nothing helped. He is on premium food with no grains to help. Poor guy itched and scratched all the time. I read the reviews on this product and thought I would give it a try. LOVE IT!!! Terrific product. Leaves his coat shiny and so soft. Very luxurious. The best thing is no itching and scratching. No dry skin. Even after a week, his coat is still so shiny and soft. He is such a happier dog, and I am a happier mom! Would highly recommend this shampoo.
