We installed the in ground wire around the perimeter of our property. I have one dog that digs under our fence and one that climbs the fence. These collars keep our dogs away from the fence and keeps them from running out into the street. We have had our fence for 5 years now and only replaced the collars once because I misplaced them. Batteries need replacement every few months. I like that the dogs get a beeping warning once they are within a few feet of the perimeter and only get shocked if they cross the boundary.fldolphinmc
I have a lab / hound mix that is 11 years old and she weighs about 85lbs. We began usin this collar since April 2017 and within 3 months, one of the prongs broke off. We contacted petsafe and were told that this is an uncommon problem and that the only way this could happen is due to "rough play, hitting it against an object, over-tightening the probes, etc." I have a hard time believing our senior aged dog plays rough enough to break the prongs of a durably made product. If you have a larger / sporting breed dog, i would steer clear of this product and go with Invisible Fence or the SportDOG brand from another retailer. They seem to cater to larger / sporting breeds. We've had our fence under a year, no problems with the actual fence. We have 2 dogs on the fence, 1 is an English Mastiff and the other is a Cocker Spaniel. The Cocker Spaniel's clip/closure cracked and broke off so we had to go out and search almost an acre of property to find it. We did find it but it is a PAIN to have to go out and search for a collar that you would not expect to break. Recently our English Mastiff has been strolling off the property, she has never done that in the almost year we have had it. First think I did was check the battery and decided to be safe we would change it!! That didn't work so I decided to take off the collar and check it to make sure it worked and it does but there are certain times when it don't. I have it on the highest frequency and I'm hoping this works, I will keep you informed. But us like others are missing the clear caps that cover the button to change the frequency. I don't understand how these pieces can come off unless we take them off, this tells me that there is a malfunction in your manufacturing if we are not the only ones missing these caps!! Then to top it off, you sell these clear caps and expect us to pay for them, something doesn't seem right. If you know these clear caps come off, shouldn't you be trying to fix this issue and offer those caps or free? Rich T

I have two Neapolitan mastiffs. One is 190lvs and the other is 170lbs, male and female. We ha e a large property but lots of other houses around, no one has fences including us. While everybody else's dogs are tied up on chains outside, our two big dogs get to roam free along our property because of these collars. Keeps them super happy and all the other dogs are jealous! I didn't think it would work because they are so big. My male weighs as much as a human man, but they only tested at one time at each boundary line and they've never gone back.they can run full speed to our property line and they know when to stop. it doesn't matter if people walk by or other dogs go by, they don't bother with them. It's a lifesaver to be able to just let your dogs out the door when they have to go to the bathroom and let them get exercise without having to worry about driving to dog parks or taking two big dogs out on a leash!Neolove
Our dog is so happy with this collar! We have a very busy vizsla and I was worried about how the shock collar would effect his personality (he’s such an emotional dog), but after a week of training multiple times per day with the kids I don’t even have to put the shock on! Collar has been replaced twice in 6 years. Each time because the plastic housing cracks and crumbles. This replacement from Petsafe lasted ~ 16-17 months (actually less – I’ve been nursing the pieces along). This time, the o-ring groove on the INSIDE of the housing cover has popped out and literally crumbled. Not very old at all, not exposed to weather, UV, or abuse. Maybe 4th battery change since new. At first it worked great 4 months in a collar stopped working it would show red light like charging but would never come on so i purchased another one 130 bucks (wow) with in weeks same thing to my other one called tech support this time they walked me theough how to turn it on (at this point i laughed at the begining of the call i stated i have had the system a year) they told me it must be broke and buy a new one. Well broke to me is nothing working but i have red light on charging and stays red for hours 8 to be exact on both of them so this is trash and do not expect help from tech support. I purchased 2 collars for my small dogs. 1 of my dogs is yorkie size, the other a bit larger. The fit seems nice for the 5 lb dog. Since I have 3 dogs, I have a few concerns: 1.) I'm worried the rubberized collar will get ruined because they like to tackle each other by the collars (their regular collars). Petsafe said I should try the Cat collar which uses the same receiver and has a nylon strap which "can" be replaced if it should become damaged. Little Dog version is all one unit and you'll need to replace the whole collar and receiver as one unit. 2.)I set our boundry up using a Comfort-Fit collar for a big dog. The boundry is different for the two types of collars. My little dogs have to be almost on top of the wire before they get a tone compared to my big dog being almost 8 feet from the wire. So the flags are not a consistent distance for the little dogs. A Little Dog collar would have been fine for my big dog given his temperment. Not sure how long the battery life will be. Seems cumbersome to turn the receiver on after rotating it off to conserve battery life. Then, to be sure the collar is on after I rotate it to "On", I press the small control button to see if the light flashes which will let you know the receiver is on, you must be certain the level of correction did not change. Not too big a deal if you don't mind your dog getting a stronger correction. See, I want to take the collars off from time to time and then turn them off. But if you are in a hurry to let doggie out to go, you will have too much to do…at least for me with multiple dogs. Another concern is the dogs pressing the small control button while they are playing. Not sure on that yet. They may get the shock of their lives. I think this collar is a nice solution for little dogs. But also take a look at the Cat collar for your little poochie…Petsafe collars work with almost all Petsafe trasmitters (exception is the wireless and "Invisible Fence" brands). I'm going to give the cat collar a try, but it seems only avail. on-line. *I've called Petsafe customer support about 5 times and have had short to no wait times. Recently bought this product for my two dogs. I have a boxer and a jack russell. Both dogs learned within a few hours to listen for the beeps. My boxer loves it, because she can now roam from the backyard to the front yard. My jack russell however, is scared to move too much, so she’s still a work in progress, but I’m sure she will eventually work through it. Ok, maybe my dogs do if they sneak out of range setting 6 on the collar will make your dog come off the ground like a bass breaking water setting 4 is definitely enough. I have never had a problem. I have been using PetSafe for at least 15 years. I wired a half acre lot and I just open the door and out my 2 dogs go and I know they are safe. We live in the middle of Dallas. I really like how it has worked over the years except….. Using the 16 ga. wire supplied, I used to get failure in the system. The receiver box would be beeping and not working. I would have to rewire sections of the wire for it to again work properly. This happened 5 or 6 times until I rewired the whole yard perimeter with 14 ga. wire. The system has never gone down since I did this 6 or 7 years ago. I give this a 5 star rating using 14 ga. wire.Lake
This collar works well with our older Instant Fence unit. We purchased it for our small (9lb) 9 month old pup. It fits her well, and is not to big for her. There is plenty of adjustment in the collar for different sized dogs. The battery life is excellent and she has responded well to wearing it in our yard. I only wish that it had an additional mode for a vibration alert as well as sound. It would also be nice to have a louder sound for us people. When training a small dog I had to bend over to try and hear the alert as we approached the boundary. But in the end, as long as the dog hears the sound, that's all that matters. We have a Goldendoodle dog and we bought this system when we adopted almost two years ago. We purchased this system because it was recommended to us and I wish I would have done more research. Our Goldendoodle dog's collar cracked in half about a month ago. My husband and I are extremely furstated becase there are no other collars that are compatible with this system. A replacement collar will be around $150, which is also more expensive than competitors replacement collars. What really infuriates me is reading other costumers reviews and realizing, I will need to buy several other replacements throughout the course of my dog's life because he is still farely young. My husband and I are serisouly considering getting rid of our entire PetSafe system and install a new system because factoring in the projected cost of replacement collars that we will mostly likely go through is A LOT MORE than the cost of an entire new system and to have the new system professional instally. I understand there is a one year warranty, but from the reviews I am reading, along with my own experience, the collars conveniently break/crack after the year is up. I am very disappointed and upset because until we are able to get our dog a new collar, or new system he is the one who suffers. We LOVE our dog, we live on a large piece of land, which he loves to roam. Unfortnately, we can not let him roam because without his collar he roams out of our property. My husband and I are scared he will roam out onto the main roadway that is close to our property. I don't mind spending money on something that is a good product and will help keep my dog safe, but I am furious and upset when a product is not durable and does not hold it's value and for the fact this seems to be a continous issue.boymom2
We have two collars for the YardMax system that we have used for years. We lost our two elderly dogs and now have two 10 mo old German Shepherds. The system was easy to train the new dogs on but the pups are destroying these collars! I have had to order numerous replacement receivers and repeated collars – and they are only 10 mo. old! I've had this fence for around 2 1/2 years. Works awesome. But the collars are awful. The strap goes around the electronics, so anything that pulls on the collar breaks off the plastic tabs and then done, another $150, just as others here have stated. I don't care about a 1-year warranty. For this kind of money, it should be 5 years! Also feel that after ALL these reviews and still no design change, I wonder what the real PetSafe motive is here, to get us to keep buying collars? Since I upgraded to the thickest wire possible, now looking at other systems that can use the same wire but have better collars, as I've already spent more on collars than I did on the whole original fence. I have a pup that is a large breed, he looks like I been feeding him steak and potatoes cause he's so dang big. He is ALL puppy though. Chews on everything loves running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Been trying to train him to chill with me, yeah, right. He wants to play. And because he wants to play, he wants to run every stinkin where. Decided, for my sanity as well as his safety, I'd get this thing. Put the flags out, set it on a low static charge, and it didn't take long before he figured it out. You DO have to WORK a dog with this. It's not just a plug it up and watch their hair shoot up when they get popped. Walked him around the perimeter for 7 days, he sees and sniffs the flags. After that, I let him run around, and he got popped maybe 3 times, and figured it out. Now he's pretty dang happy, and I can let him rip around with zoomies while I work in the yard. I have a 2 yr old LARGE French Mastiff that weighs 180ish! I bought with the (red in color) “stubborn” collar. We previously installed a wired underground fence. (Which I have to mention took 2 FULL DAYS TO INSTALL AND READY TO USE!!) My Bo would realize he was close to the boundary, take a step or two back then take a run right through it, with no second thought!!! We watched him do this several times. I guess he was thinking, well this is going to hurt but only for a few short seconds. Idk?? But it did NOT phase him one bit! I had talked to 4 or 5 people that had this system, so reluctantly I decided to give it a try. I thought to myself well if it doesn’t work I will simply return it, no harm no foul. My boyfriend had it installed and collar on Bo in 30 mins flat. We walked ole hard-headed Bo around maybe 4 times to show him the boundaries. Once he heard the beeping, he kept walking then he felt the shock 1 time and that must have been enough because he never ventured close again! It has been about 2 months of use and I would give it 100 STARS IF IT WAS AN OPTION! We live in a subdivision where houses are fairly close. I was ultimately worried that the zone would lead into the neighboring yard. (which was the #1 thing we are trying to prevent) And although it may, Bo doesn’t even attempt to go that far. I believe he now understands to stay in his own yard! Living in a subdivision, many people take walks and Bo just sits and watches them now!! Matter of fact, just to see, we have sent him outside WITHOUT the collar and ironically enough HE STAYS IN OUR YARD!! The ONLY complaint I have is the small clear piece on the collar broke off the first time I went to adjust the strength of the shock. So far it hasn’t effected anything so fingers crossed on that! Just an FYI, we set ours on a level 3 to begin with and my boyfriend was ready to give up, so I told him to have some patience and we just kept adjusting the level on the collar and we ended up discovering for Bo he needed to be set on a #6. Again, I repeat he weighs 180 lbs, and the Mastiff bread is KNOWN for their stubbornness. I would suggest starting at the lowest level for a smaller dog PLEASE! I have been using PetSafe for at least 15 years. I wired a half acre lot and I just open the door and out my 2 dogs go and I know they are safe. We live in the middle of Dallas. I really like how it has worked over the years except….. Using the 16 ga. wire supplied, I used to get failure in the system. The receiver box would be beeping and not working. I would have to rewire sections of the wire for it to again work properly. This happened 5 or 6 times until I rewired the whole yard perimeter with 14 ga. wire. The system has never gone down since I did this 6 or 7 years ago. I give this a 5 star rating using 14 ga. wire.Lake
This collar works well with our older Instant Fence unit. We purchased it for our small (9lb) 9 month old pup. It fits her well, and is not to big for her. There is plenty of adjustment in the collar for different sized dogs. The battery life is excellent and she has responded well to wearing it in our yard. I only wish that it had an additional mode for a vibration alert as well as sound. It would also be nice to have a louder sound for us people. When training a small dog I had to bend over to try and hear the alert as we approached the boundary. But in the end, as long as the dog hears the sound, that's all that matters. Great way to keep your pet safe in your yard. When I called pet safe for information, the customer service rep. was very helpful in choosing the right collar for our needs. That helped a lot.3 pines

I bought Spirit Bear for my beloved Apache ❤️ he wore it 14 & 1/2 yrs. It washes great and is my favorite of all the patterns Lupin has made. Apaches leash is now chewed by a puppy ????. I wish Lupine would be like scentsy a place that carries wax melts if you find a smell you like you put it in your box and they will make it for you forever or take it off your list, in other words I wish they let me keep Spitit bear on my list and they'd make it when I wanted it. I have been using Lupine collars for almost 5 years now. I have a 7 lb mini-jack and a 35 lb Aussie mix. My Aussie Ginger is pretty high energy and like to pull when on a leash. For a Christmas picture at Pet Smart, I bought my dogs these cute (Pet Smart) matching Christmas collars. Gingers broke when we were in pet smart, the first time we used it. Needless to say she was hard to catch, and almost got hit by a car when someone had opened a door. I will never use any collar but her lupine collars again!!!! We also have matching leashes and a harness. This company has the best warranty I have ever seen. Ginger chewed through her first harness bc it had been put on too loose and not removed (by a teenager) after her walk. She wanted it off so she chewed it off. I sent a pic and they replaced it in 3 days!!! If you are on the fence, just buy it!! These collars are less expensive than most, are more sturdy than most, and have the best warranty out there!! Love the quality of these collars and leashes. We have had to have some replaced to razor sharp puppy teeth with no Hassel at all!! My only complaint is that I wish the designs were available in all sizes. Our Airedale pup is named Bindi which means little girl butterfly in Aboriginal language so we had the wing it collar and leash. Now that she is getting bigger and outgrowing them I wish they had the same pattern "wing it" in the larger sizes as well! HUGE fan of these collars
