Is this item a replacement for the RFA-577 model? The button on the training collar wore out and will not turn on the module anymore. I have gotten a solid two years out of the collar and I am very pleased with the results of responsible training for my dog. *Dominoe is a very well behaved dog and I am constantly getting compliments on his behavior. I purchased this product on my brother's recommendation. I have 10 dogs and 14 guineas and only one of the dogs would kill our fowl. IMMEDIATELY, my wonderful, yet poorly socialized Mini Schnauzer changed his ways. It only took a few zaps, and now he responds to tone only. He now stops his running away, AND drops any "food" he finds usually just from the beep ! Half the time just the command works ! (Which NEVER did) He knew I was too old to catch him, so there was never any consequence to his misbehavior. The collar seems to work just find so far. The belt on the collar is much too long, but we just tuck it under his dog collar. It is simple to understand how to use it. It is simple and easy to get started. Distance is accurate. If puppy/ dog has thick fur definitely have to unlock static levels. Vibrate only one level no to slight response viewd with our dog thick fur. I bought the 300 yard lite about 2 months ago for my 1 yr old Springer spaniel who is a little shy and very sensitive to corrections yet loves to bark at the neighbors. He usually stays in yard but does wander to neighbors on occasion to bark at them. Underground fencing not a good option for me so I tried this device. Wow it’s amazing! We have had this PetSafe 300 for a couple of years now. It most definitely works in the 300 yard area. It is also very tough! It has survived several playful Corgis, and is now on a very rambunctious German Shepard. We really like the many selections you have with this trainer, from low to high. The hand held remote battery seems to last forever between charges, but the collar not so long. We seem to only get two days worth out of a charge at the most, which is why I can't give it a full 5 star rating. I would give it 4.5 starts if that was possible. Overall we would definitely buy again. We are looking to get another collar so the other can charge while one is on the rambunctiously large German Shepard puppy. I say puppy.. She's like 75lbs!!! I have an adopted fur-baby that had a lot of control and behavior issues. Training, the usual way was just not working. I tried this and, within one day, the disruptive behavior (running and tearing up things in the house, jumping from one piece of furniture to another, non-stop barking) all stopped. He began with sitting, immediately after only two "vibrations" of the collar. By the end of the week, all I had to do was take out the remote control, say the words of sit, stay, no and wait, and he did so. Now, I don't have to use the remote at all but just say the words. I will tell you that, under no circumstances would I recommend the "shock" feature. Because it is easily changed on this model, by accident, I found out, the hard way just how much it hurts the animal. If you click MODE, by accident, from it being on vibrate, it switches over to Shock. BE VERY CAREFUL when you are about to use the Y button, for sound or vibration as, if it's on shock–and this was the very low setting–the dog whelps loudly and jumps, shakes, etc. I would not recommend it for any animal lover as, I don't even want to know what it feels like. Because the vibration is strong, even on low settings, and the other setting of "beep" is a high frequency sound, I found them the most effective. Thebeep sound is for Guiness (my new family member) to come–I use the vibration for correction, when needed. Guiness was the most difficult dog that I have worked with and I have behavioral training for dogs, which I have used for all of my pets. If this worked on him, it will work on most dogs that have behavioral issues. I would recommend it for the vibration and sound settings–and hope to get one that doesn't have the shock setting as, I feel that is just inhumane to use on a dog (my opinion after seeing how he reacted, on just a low setting). PLEASE USE CAREFULLY until you are used to the remote. That is my only advice when purchasing this for training.kelly4jesus
I have had the collar only a few days and so far it has met every expectation. We had a more expensive name brand training collar before this one which my dog somehow removed and chewed to oblivion. Rather than spend over $150 to replace it I wanted to try out a cheaper alternative in the likely event he ruins another one in the future. He had already been familiar with a training collar so going to this one was no problem. I like having a beep tone as well as a vibrate warning before having to go with a full on shock. I have so far only had the use the warning tone which is nice and loud on this collar and the pup recognizes it right away. It seems to have decent distance, have not tested the claimed 330 yards yet though. For the price it is a great unit with nice features. The more expensive one we had before was much more robust but I didnt expect this to be built the same for 1/5th the price, with that said it is built well, surprisingly well for the money honestly. Have not tested the waterproof ability yet as we dont live near water but it looks like it should be fine to get wet without issue. Battery life seems good so far, going on several days without a recharge but we dont use it all day either. Overall I am so far satisfied with it, I would recommend this toanyone who wants an inexpensive training collar but I dont expect it to last for years like the other one we had.kerr8719
Tested on an open field with the collar in line of sight, the range is roughly 150 feet. That said, I strongly doubt if any of the other e-collars can do much better without extraordinary antennas. Here in the US the transmitting power of devices like this is severely limited by law, so the only way to get more range than the competition is to have more prominent antennas. This collar delivers on a 2 year old high drive, 78 pound, male doberman. I used the shock once at 30 and it definitively got a yelp and the dog's attention. Since then the "vibrate" mode is effective enough. Most of the time we use the collar to stop barking at the window, The dog barks we say "quiet" and if, and only "if", the dog immediately barks again he gets a "vibrate". He seems to avoid barking immediately after a "quiet" command. Now the challenge is to extend the time he doesn't bark for at least 30 seconds after a "quiet" commend. Our second and very infrequent application is open field recalls. For that I'd dearly love an electric collar with a 100 yard range, but even this collar's 50 yard range is helpful. Using an e-collar in an open field is a tricky business. What seems to work is to put the collar away until you have a good recall without distractions. Even 10 feet in a hallway or tennis court teaches you and your dog how to do a recall that ends with the beast sitting nicely in front of you and getting a tasty reward. Never repeat your recall command even if it means constantly dragging the animal back until it figures our what you expect. What the e-collar is then useful for is dealing with distractions — another dog, an annoying squirrel or even sniffing a bit of chicken soup spilled nearby. Issue your recall command and look for that momentary hesitation when the animal decides to ignore you and hit the e-collar to remind the beast that you just gave a command. Any other timing and the animal has no clue and would just as easily take off in the opposite direction to get away from the unwelcome stimulation. One feature I miss is a combination tone/shock. This really is a tremendously different product. 127 settings seemed overwhelming to me. As I use this more and more as I train my dog, I’m able to see what that really means. In the past, collars I’ve used only had a few settings, so moving up or down a notch so to say was a dramatic difference, while the dogtra allows me to fine tune the stim very minimally until I find my dogs “number” for the variety of situations. I bought the Dogtra 280C to use with my very active and agile 1 year old Toy Austrailian Sheppard for stopping unwanted behaviors like digging up my lawn and attacking the cat. The transmitter and receiver both hold charges for days, and easily sync by just holding the two units next to one another at the red dots for a second. The 1/2 mile range is more than enough to reach out and touch her for a friendly reminder to come in for supper. The LCD screen is super nice to see stimulation level at night or when I don't have my glasses with me. We bought these training collars 5 yrs ago. As dog owners this is the BEST investment/tool we've ever bought! We bought the 2 collar in 1 pack, in case 1 collar broke we'd have a backup. That ended up working out well because we got a German Shepherd 2 yrs down the road. Both of my girls are so well behaved with the collars on! We have only had to use the static maybe 5 times between the both of them. Once they learned it was their correction the beep worked from then on. My girls play rough. I've dropped the hand controller at least 100x's and everything still works like the day we bought it! It's help teach our girls the yard perimeter, walk off leash in the neighborhood, and get their attention when let out late if they start barking. After seeing so many bad reviews for other collars I wanted to save anyone else from other brands. You can't beat the price on this collar. We have a new , very smart and very active male german sheperd puppy. The boys can be a little harder to train . I got this initially because he howled in his kennel literally all night unless somebody slept next to the kennel . I only use the vibrate function, and thats been enough to stop even his most persistent behaviors. Its seriously crazy how well this works! I wish I’d tried one in the past with our other dogs. From the beginning whenever id press the button he would immediately stop and sit at attention. Id already taught him sit , lay down and stay before we got the collar. Its pretty hilarious because sometimes i buzz him and he sits down , then he looks around trying to figure out what got him 🤣 I highly recommend getting one of these to train your dog. It takes so much less effort to push a button for persistent behaviors . We have five kids , so the house is pretty hectic at times . We have a poodle and his attention is quickly diverted so when a squirrel runs anywhere in his sight, he is off. I have only used the beep and vibration and have made a world of difference in my house. my pitbull would jump and paw at us for attention which was hurting us due to his size. the beep stops the behaviors immediately and rarely have had to vibrate him. my pit also was being extremely possesive of food and starting fights at meal times. the beep makes him.stop instantly and he sits down. my chihuahua mix has a problem with getting on the table and stealing food and also barking non stop. he isnt as affected by the beep as my pitbull so I tend to have to use vibrate more often with him but he is slowly getting on the table less and less. I dont know why I waited so long to try these but I guess it's because I was one of those people who said they would never use a shock collar. I'm so glad I tried these collars before making any drastic decisions due to behavioral issues. the only downside/complaint I have is the charger comes with 2 ports so you can only charge one collar and the remote at the same time. if they are being sold in a 2 pack there should be suffice chargers to charge all 3 at the same time which is why I only gave 4 stars. the collars also tend to need to be resynced but it's an easy process to do.overall I'm very happy with the collarMandy

had the 2 collar set and ordered a 2nd remote shortly following. one of the collars has already stopped working. upon inspection, I found water damage inside the cover and the circuit board has corrosion all over. I am looking for another better, stronger shocking collar. my pups are stubborn. they already didn't grab the dog's attention, and to curb aggressive behavior, I need this while they are young. suggestions on better waterproof, and stronger shock please and am I stuck with these?Brandon
I bought these for a young German Shepherd and a young yellow lab. The lab responds well to the vibrate for now. But the shock on 99 (highest level) doesn’t phase her no matter how tight the collar is. She doesn’t even respond to the vibrate. She has been trained on other collars. This one does nothing to her. The lab is responding to the vibrate for now. But we will see how well it sticks. If you want a quality collar this is not it. I guess it’s what I get for going with a cheaper collarAli

Loved this remote control trainer! We have been using an older model and this one feels so high tech!! My favorite thing about it is the option to have 2 dogs on the same controller! My second favorite thing is that it is rechargeable! No more dead collars, remotes or wasting $$ on batteries! Dogs were very responsive to it-one just needs to hear the sound, while the other gets a little more distracted and needs something more! 3 different settings give a nice variety to choose from! I got this product to replace an older model that I have had for years for a yellow lab. He is generally well behaved, it is just times he gets a little too excited and forgets to listen. First off the fact that this has static and vibration built into one is awesome. I feel much better using the vibration only and my dog responds well to it. I like know the static feature is there for more of a back up. The unit was very easy to set up and understand. The daily use is very simple, although I would like the buttons to be more pronounced, as I usually have the controller in my pocket. Range has not be an issue at all, although I am generally close by so I can’t see that ever being an issues. The only “cons” I have found so far are the strap for the collar seems a little flimsy and the “lanyard” for the controller could be longer. Over all, I would absolutely recommend this product. As I said, I am using it for a yellow lab (he is 83 lbs.) and have zero issues!Sprout004
I've been loving getting to know and use this training collar. I have a one year old Golden Retriever who listens fairly well but occasionally loses focus and tends to bolt (to birds, squirrels, great smells, etc.) and I needed something to snap his attention back to me. This collar so far has been excellent for that. I LOVE how many settings it has. So far, I've been lucky enough to only have to use the tone – it's just enough to snap him out of his focus (or lack there of 😉 ) and listen to me. I enjoy that it allows for vibration before static as well. The collar itself is very adjustable. I love that it's waterproof. 600 yards is great too, we have several acres and it gives me peace of mind that even if my boy makes it further than usual, I can still reach him. My only personal downside is the remote buttons. They're fairly hard to press with my arthritic hands. I understand they shouldn't be too easy so as to not accidentally be depressed when not meaning to. Not a deal breaker at all – again, just my own downside. I really like that I can charge the remote and collar at the same time with the charger. So far the charge has lasted longer than expected too.
