I have been looking for a great bed for our dog with epilepsy. Seizures can really put a dog bed through the ringer. We have tried others that are difficult to wash, or tear during a seizure. What appealed to me about this bed is the ability to fill it with our old t shirts and things, making the filling washable, PLUS being able to add a water-resistant liner. Shipping was insanely fast. This bed cover was perfect for what we needed. We purchased the only dog bed we could find locally that was the right size, but it is white and the center part is fleece. Our dogs paw on their beds before lying down, and were making a fuzzy mess, plus the white materials showed dirt immediately. Loved the idea of purchasing duvet cover for for a dog bed with so many possibilities for stuffing. I had a king size memory foam mattress cover I cut up to correct size and my pooch has a nice thick comfy bed now. Would suggest purchases liner that goes underneath duvet cover if using foam so cover slips on easier. Only thing I suggest is making the zipper longer so it’s easier slipping over thick foam.
Great concept, difficult execution if you want anything beyond a small bed. I purchased the huge, not taking into consideration the amount of "stuff" it would take to fill it. I was able to fill it after parting with things I wasn't originally intending too. The bed is just not comfortable, however. I can't imagine unless you have all plush clothes and pillows to fill it with that it would ever be truly comfortable. The dogs haven't slept on it in a week. Unfortunately after only 9 months of normal use (our Lab is 11 years old and very gentle) and delicate washing the cover material did not hold up and now has holes. However it is actually 32"x48"x4" and the red is bright fire engine red (primary red) red and the contrasting piping/cording and stitching are white, not "natural" which would have been an off-white. The three inch difference in width will make me have to go thru the hassle of returning these for the extra large and perhaps switching to the brown (which will probably have the white instead of natural cording and stitching). The handle on each end seem like an unnecessary addition and would be quite attractive to some dogs as chew toys. I can't imaging ever using them. The thing I do like about these is never mentioned in the description which is that the zipper is along the long side (48" side) for easy access and is the heavy coil type (self-repairing). Also they appear to be well made. They are not however well described as to size and color. The color choices (including the contrasting stitching) available seem more suited to a boat or vacation cottage then to a living room as they look quite out of place on an oriental rug! But I suppose the nautical theme goes with the sail cloth fabric and the company (Land's End) name. All in all, not the best purchase I've ever made, but they do seem sturdy enough at first glance. This purchase is our fifth LandsEnd dog bed for our household (and, yes, all of the others are still in happy use), so we obviously love the quality beds. This one will be used primarily on our screened porch, and the gray color perfectly matches our pillows, chair and bed swing cushions. When I was unpackaging the bed upon arrival, our dog was curious and when we put it together (the insert arrived earlier, as the outer part was on a long-backorder), our dog sniffed it and once assembled QUICKLY instantly got comfortable on it.
