Crate Training Adopted Dog For Sale (2024 Update)

The medium size I got was a lot bigger than I thought which is a wonderful surprise. I’ve split it into 2 and the double doors make it possible. I am currently training my little pup to use the other side as a bathroom as he weathers his first Chicago winter. Love it! And the great thing is the large window on the side is able to be tucked in the top to keep one side always open. The other smaller door doesn’t tuck on the top but that doesn’t bother me because that door is against the wall and not an issue at all. Quality seems great. Have had it for a few weeks and I love it. And so does my lil 10lb pup in his medium crate (but it’s large for him!). He goes in and out a lot more than his old one and I attribute part of it to the double doors! Works like a 2-room apartment for himJennBearDem

I love Petco. So sorry I can’t give this kennel a 5 star rating. Love the style. Purchased “large” size for 40 pound female lab/hound mix, 17 months young; fit perfectly (even 75 pound male “cousin” slept curled up a couple of times, for novelty). She’s not perfectly kennel/crate trained. Visiting our daughter & didn’t want dog to run around unsupervised. 1st time used kennel successfully for a few hours. 2nd time unfortunately used a lot longer. She was observed on camera chewing/pulling on rear end and pushing way out of bottom (latched) small front door. She got minor abrasions on cheek and paw; was a TIGHT SQUEEZE out. MOST UNFORTUNATE! Ughhhh; other purchasers had reported wire weaknesses, but I truly wanted to believe that my dog wouldn’t be strong enough. I will talk to customer service now. We know now what’s possible… Recommend with reservation; depends on dog, really.Tuggisfun

We have a growing 7 month-old newfypoo so needed to upgrade our crate to a larger size. I chose this crate for 2 specific reasons: #1, the height and #2, the top-folding door on the side of the crate. My newfypoo needed the additional height so he isn't hunched over if he's sitting up. The height on this size has given him an inch or two of extra clearance and should still work when he's done growing. For the 2nd point, I LOVE the top-folding side door. Because of where we keep the crate, we only use the side door and it has been awesome not having to walk around a door that opens to the side and is in the way of the main flow of traffic. Even though the crate is noticeably bigger than our old one, it feels like it takes up the same amount of space because of that door. I can't speak highly enough of it. For more practical items, the crate is very sturdy and well made. There were no problems with shipping and other than needing a little muscle, the crate went together very easily. My newfypoo isn't one that will try to escape from a crate, so I can't speak to that, but I have been very impressed with the quality of this crate and how easy it was to get my big-little puppy used to it. We bought this crate 4 weeks ago on the way to pick up our new rescue puppy. After 4 weeks of use it’s still like new despite those little piranha teeth! I questioned my husband about getting this size but his answer was “he’s only 5 lbs!” Well he’s found out he didn’t stay 5 lbs! When he’s sitting his head is just inches from the top so we’ll be buying another just like it in a bigger size!Mimi

Purchased this under the Doskocil name for a 1 year old Husky rescue. He had no problem bending the bars and/or braking the "welds". Properly done welds cannot be broken, so I assume that they are only brazed / tacked together. DO NOT purchase this product if you have a breed (ie Husky / Malamute) that are prone to attempt escape. I have already had to repair and replace several household items. Build your own or spend the money and purchase a quality product elsewhere.RKT65

This is a great small kennel. I put a pillow on the bottom, and my 2 small chihuahuas fit comfortably. It breaks down super easy, and is about 3 inches thick when traveling. I don't remember how much I paid, but if mine broke today I would buy another. I think this is one of my better investments. My favorite feature is that there are two doors. There is a door on the side and a door on the front for easy access.jenn.w

We use this crate to keep our puppy from wandering around the house at night, since we are still potty training her. It is very convenient and clean. The two doors make it much easier to access the puppy regardless of where she is in the crate.WILLIAM

These products are high quality very functional. I was amazed how easy it is to set up the crate, open the box, take it out and pull it up. The quality is unbeatable and I have spent hours researching dog crates. It will last many years. You know the old saying " you get what you pay for", well in this case it is true! Love the lavender color with the crate, the design and quality. I bought the treat spreads and the one I’ve tried, my dog loves it. He is conditioned now to hear when I open the freezer drawer. The only downside to giving this to him, is that it only lasts a couple of minutes (even when frozen), and it’s not quite long enough to calm him down in his crate. He barks at me when he’s done and begs for more. Part of it may be that he’s thirsty when he finishes it. Or maybe he’s just not that well behaved yet, I don’t know.Amy O.

I have put different spreads in yogurt I have made popsicles and the product holds up. I still have a young puppy so I don’t know how this will hold up with a strong chewer. It does promote licking because that’s how your dog can reach his snack and it does calm them and it’s great that it goes in the crate but eventually when the spread or popsicle or whatever it is getting low a dog will chew because dogs are chewers. It’s not really that big of a deal you just have to supervise your pup and remove it. The really big issue with it is cleaning. I literally have to run boiling hot water over it and use a teeny little wire brush to get all the food off and then I run it through the dishwasher. That’s why it gets four stars.Angela K.

Some dogs just don't quite fit into the size charts in the way other dogs do. Our dog Angel, a mountain cur, is one of those dogs. Weight wise, Angel is comfortably in the medium category but she's tall and lanky so she always had to hunch over in her medium crate. This larger crate is a perfect height for the needed room. While the width and depth is nearly enough to also add our smaller dog as well, it works great for Angel.Terri M.

We bought this product mostly because of the vertical lift feature of the door hinge and the two-door access options which is great for all sorts of configurations (against different walls, corners etc). We like the size and customizable interior of the XL crate for our growing puppy (husky/shepard mix). This is definitely an at home crate vs. care crate. The only issue we have is that compared to our first crate (same company, large single door, 2 locks) is that this crate is very rattly. We crate our dog during sleeping hours and every time he kicks in his sleep or adjusts, it makes a clangy metallic sound that wasn't expected. Would not recommend for the bedroom but would recommend overall.SanFrannylou

Easy to transport as it lays flat and easy to set up. My dog will likely grow to be a 50 lbs border collie but right now is about 14 lbs. I have set up the partition to give him 2/3 of the space and it is perfect for him. The double latch system provides security and ease of use. We also bought the mattress pad for this kennel and it fits under the partition if you are making the space smaller ( no need to bunch up on the usable side)Ron P

The crate had obviously been used and returned. The metal was rusted in places and the plastic bottom tray was dirty. When I decided to return it, It was a challenge to get it back in the box. When I took it back to the store, I asked about a discount and received 15% off (the tax). I had previously bought one that was marked down by 50% because the box was damaged. I was quite disappointed in the whole experience. Apparently the merchandise was supposed to be checked if the box was damaged and that wasn’t done in this case.Janice

I've owned dogs for the last 40 years. I've used MidWest wire crates for my last 4 dogs. This iCrate didn't disappoint. It's sturdy and and easy to put up and take down. I use them when I travel with my dogs too. My dogs only use their crates for sleeping in at night or napping in during the day. During the day, their crate doors are left open. I close the dogs in at night. I don't have an issue with my dogs trying to escape from their crates, so I can't speak to whether or not this would be sturdy enough for a dog that's determined to get out of their crate. These crates are more than sturdy enough for my miniature Schnauzer, Havanese, and Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. All three of my dogs love their MidWest iCrates, as did my previous dog! They go in them voluntarily and when told to "crate up". My only concern with the current crate I ordered is that that one of the latches isn't lined up quite right so it's a bit tight when closing the crate door. I bent it slightly and it works much better. I haven't had that issue with any of the previous MidWest crates I've used. I'm a MidWest crate fan.Eddie09

So thankful for this crate set. It came just in time for us to take a last minute 8-10 hour round trip. I was glad to be able to leave our pup at home with food and water! Purchased the 48” and the bowls are giant! Great for lots of water but silly looking for only 1-1.5 cups of dry food. The cover is nicer in person, I was afraid it was going to look like a tarp or plastic garbage bag but it’s good quality. Super easy setup, this is folding even though it’s not in the title. My pup does try to chew it a bit but so far no damage. I did have to remove the bed because he was clawing it and eating the fibers that he pulled off. I did wash the bed and lay in sun to dry. Washed well. Divider easy to use. This is my first ever wire crate. The least likeable part is how easy it is for my kids to open anytime they want. Wish there was a child lock! Haha. My pup is a Lab/Border Collie/hound mix. Went with 48” because I have no idea how big he will get. The height is perfect because he is super tall. I used divider cutting off about 6-8 inches and he has room to stretch.Rogue4

Bought this crate for my severely anxious beagle. We were at our wits end with the messes in the house and broken crates. I know Petco has no control over my boy's anxiety, but they made a crate kit that is affordable, arrived quickly, and is the perfect size for him. The crate cover and bed (in my opinion is what gave him more comfort) Super fast setup is also a big plus considering we travel and need a crate that works with us. This kennel is a must have especially if you have an energetic puppy like I do. We use it when she gets overstimulated from playing. It’s a nice safe retreat for her. We have a powerfully built 40 pound mutt who can muscle her way out of her old crate by popping the single latched door open. We had to add an extra clip to the door to keep her in the crate, which is a pain getting the clip on and off to let her in and out. She can’t gorse the door on this crate open due to the double latches AND the extra “hook” on the tip that holds the latches in place. My little bulldozer can’t open this crate by force and go counter surfing, much to her dismay.TKettle

If you are needing to purchase a new dog crate, this is the brand and model I highly recommend. Midwest had several levels of crates but I have found that you cannot go wrong purchasing the Lifestage's model. They are solidly made and last forever. I always purchase the double door crates. They have cheaper models & more expensive ones too. I would not recommend their icrate as they are cheaper but they are also not had solidly made as the Lifestage's. Spend the extra $10-$15 and purchase the Life Stages model. It is well worth the money. I have had great success purchasing there crates at Petco.com. I always receive my items within a couple of days. It is also nice when you have a Petco store nearby where you live. If you have any issues with the merchandise you received, they have always been very accommodating and made sure they did whatever was necessary to correct the problem, return the merchandise at a full refund and/or replaced the item. I have been very happy with Petco and the merchandise I have purchased!!!Shari L

I just received this crate a couple of days ago for my Saint Bernard mix pup. The size is perfect and he has tons of room to grow in it. The doors latch nicely and the crate is very sturdy. We received this very fast! The only downfall I had with this purchase was that when we removed it from the box and set it up, there was a decent sized crack (all the way through) on the tray. I won't be replacing the tray as I've spent enough on this crate. And fortunately for me, my 5 month old pup doesn't have accidents in his crate, but I'm sure if others received this, they would not be happy.tsjackie

I had been looking at the end table style crates thinking that would look nicer and less bulky then the 4' x 4' X-pen I have in my living room. But, comfort is the main criteria and I wanted my Whippets to feel they could stand and dig through a deep pile of bedding, so I went with this crate. I like to rearrange the furniture so I bought the double door style to keep my options open. For my two Whippets I bought the 42" x 28" size which has been more then enough room for them to lay side by side or end to end. It arrives flat, but you just fold out the sides and it is ready to go. It came with a handle so it could be 'portable', but at this size it is heavy and I don't plan to take it anywhere, so I didn't attach that. I left the X-Pen up for them while they made the transition, but they hopped into the new crate the minute I put it up and haven't been back in the X-Pen (even though it still has more bedding in it). The black wire instantly looked better then the metal of the X-Pen and I'm staining a piece of wood I put trim molding around for the top (I had it cut to size at Home Depot) so I'll have an end table style look, but the height and comfort the pups want for their 'cave.' Very happy and buying a second one to have at the office for the days they come to work with me. Both crates and the wood top are costing less then the end table style crate, so all three of us are happy!psh1

This is perfect for a dog that is pug sized or smaller or slightly bigger. The picture isn't quite right. It is a soft baby pale pink and so is the pan. The blue one is a pale light blue color too. I like the pan because it is a smooth plastic and not a rough textured one which is harder to clean if something were to be ground into it. Solid thick gauge wiring too. A++++++CP

My husband and I got a puppy from the pound. She was only 2 months old when we brought her home. Using this crate for the first year help us keep our home intact! she would only be put in the crate when we were gone, that way we knew she was safe and not getting into trouble chewing furniture or peeing in the house. those two door design is fantastic! So easy to get them in and out. She loved her crate like a second home. We added blankets and toys, food and water and there was plenty of room for our little Savannah….even now when she weighs about 60 pounds she still fits comfortably.jay.m

I have two of this size (one door model). I have had these things for ohhh, 10 years…I raised three rotty's in them and kept various rescues of all animal kinds in them until I could get them off to rescue people over the years. They did duty in the barn area for poultry for most of the last 6 years and got messed on all over the place, were damp in the winter and were used like tables with a board on top. Ended up with another rescue that might stay…looked at em all poultry encrusted and dusty and cobwebby and shook my head thinking they're done. They have been through the wringer the last 6 years. I realized I really don't have the money to buy new so decided to try to clean them up as a futile attempt to not have to buy more. I had to at least try. 2 hours ,a bucket of warm soapy water, a scrubby , washcloth and a hose later…OMG. They cleaned up GREAT. The handles of the latches were slightly slightly rusty here or there where the black coating flaked off (about the only place it has flaked off and then only small spots), the metal tubes that connects the panels together a little dull, pitted and slightly rusty here or there and that is IT! They still work just fine and they look award winning good considering where they have been. If not for the latches and the connector pieces they could pass as gently used items despite what they have been through. So essentially, if you want a solid, quality crate that is priced reasonably and WORTH every darn penny….go with precision crates. One precision crate could very likely last you all of your adult life if you stayed with the same size dog. As it is now we have the two x lrgs, 1 mediumish, and 2 for 30 lbs or less dogs. And because I am so impressed with what I have,….I'm going to be buying this X-lrg 2 door version to fit in a spot where a single door crate won't work in my house. Remember- Don't throw away an extra crate that is in working order, donate it to someone who can't afford a crate or find a rescue group that needs it (crates are good for lots of different animals).Windchyme

Finally, after buying several different brands that boasted 5-stars ratings and returning each one because of its sharp, unfinished wire ends/edges, this one arrived! No sharp edges! More expensive than others, but if it saves me from a vet/pet hospital visit because a wire stabbed my pet, it is well worth the money! Feels heavy and sturdy; but still portable.Arno

I got this for a ~60lbs. labrador retriever and he seems to love it. Big enough on the inside for him to stand, turn around, and lay comfortably. It's sturdy, but not so heavy that it doesn't move around a little bit when he changes positions. It was easy enough to put together. A couple of the plastic screws didn't seem to have the ends filed off all the way (hard to describe but basically instead of a flat end, the plastic stuck out a little extra on one side instead of being flat across), which made them harder to fit straight through the holes in assembly. Fortunately, they send a few extra, so I had enough that were straight enough to put the crate together. Also, just be aware of the plastic bottom – I ran my hand across the bottom to clean it before putting it together and scraped my hand on a piece of plastic that stuck up a little (it was like a little ring manufacturing imprint). I filed it down before letting my dog in so he wouldn't get scraped on it, but just something to be on the look out for.Labbadabbadoo

The sizing recommendation by the manufacturer seems to be off. Dimensions are not the actual dimensions if you were to take a measuring tape and measure yourself. For my 55 lb border collie mix who sits at 27 inches tall and stands at 37 inches long from nose to base of tail a large would not fit. I ordered the XX Large and that is a way better fit where she can actually sit without being hunched over. This was purchased for air travel as well so I want her to be as comfortable as possible. The material seems relatively durable but it did arrive with a large crack so I will be exchanging. Compared to the Petmate Sky Kennel, this kennel seemed a little bit thinner in material and not as study. However, I order a Sky Kennel in a size Large so perhaps a sizing difference might have affected this. Also, currently, the Sky Kennel is available for a better price on Amazon but not in the size I am looking for.Zozobozo

Nicely built, easy to assemble (all holes line up for screws, about 10 with butterfly nuts).You get extra screws and rubber nuts. The cage design for opening and closing is nice and easy to use. Most of all, our dog took to it the first time. We had the S, same company. Uma is getting big now. Of course, we chose the same company and same product, just L in size. When a puppy, accidents do happen. It is easy to clean. Uma is about 20lbs now and can stand up in the kennel. Still plenty of height room. She may become 30-40lbs and this kennel will be all we need. Our use is for nighttime and when we go out. We have the gray which does not stand out. It is a neutral color and looks good in your kitchen, bedroom or where you keep your dog. The kennel also provides a rectangular cage on both sides on the top half so the dog can look out. Some of their kennels come in 2 colors and different designs.SONNYPLEASE

This is perfect for my purpose. I needed a tall fence outside to keep my dogs out of a certain area. The 16 foot length is perfect. My dogs are pretty respectful of fences, so I didn't need anything heavy duty. It isn't clear from the picture nor the description, but there is a door. I have it upside down on purpose so that I can walk through instead of crawl through the opening. This was a much cheaper option than anything for the garden, and much taller than any garden fencing.HappyDogMom

Good product. It is a little lightweight, but I zip tied it to a table and it keeps my dog from pushing it over. My dog weights about 43 pounds. It works well while I'm here to monitor her. I have to lock her in her kennel when I leave. Overall I am happy with my purchase.Maggie

I purchased this product to put my new puppy in for short periods of time when I needed to do something. It was so flimsy my 3.5 lb puppy was able to drag it all over and my adult daughter bent over to pick him up barely touching the fence and it caved in with her falling hard to the floor just missing the pup. So for my particular purpose it did not work. Its a great idea and Im sure would work for another idea but I would not recommend for puppies or any dogs to be placed in this fence.Tina

What a pleasant experience. This is such a sturdy crate. I have Serama Chickens that are indoor pets and this was just a great buy for a very reasonable price. Although I do not have a dog, there is no doubt in my mind that this cage would be perfect for a small dog.Lori

I purchased two of these "KennelMaster 24" Folding Black Wire 2 Door Dog Crate" and have had them for several months. What a great buy! Super easy to set up: they come preassembled and all folded up. They unfold and set up in a minute. I have one for each of my dogs: a Maltese/Bichon mix and a Chihuahua mix (who looks just like a small German Shepherd). We use their crates for the night time and when we leave the house. These crates are made of very nice thick metal. Incredibly sturdy. The latches are well made and smart-doggy proof. I like that the bottom is solid and can be easily removed and sanitized. My dogs have scratched and nibbled on the bars daily and the crates have held up like new. There are two doors on each crate: one door on a long side and one door on a short side. There's also a handle on top which makes it really easy to move around when I am relocating it, transporting the dogs, or just moving the crates to vacuum and clean underneath. My crates also came with some additional wire dividers that I don't use. I believe they are for making the crate smaller when you have a puppy and removing it as your dog grows. Crates can be really expensive so I was glad to find these at such a bargain price, especially because they are so well made. I know these crates will last many, many years. I have no negative things to say about these dog crates. I would highly recommend them! Please note: I do not put both dogs in the same crate, though they do both fit. I bought this item knowing that it was not going to be as sturdy as some of the other options. The price reflects the quality of the material and that must be considered for the review. I do not have an issue with my dog chewing on the crate, trying to escape, or anything of that manner, so to spend double this price for a higher quality one couldn't be justified in my mind. I simply needed a larger crate for him to sleep in at night so he doesn't jump on me while I am in bed. I bought this knowing that it would only be used for 7-8 months (while I am pregnant) and that it would be rarely used after that time frame. The order came in a reason time frame. It was simple to put together. I do suggest using a blanket or something on the bottom to avoid excess noise due to claws. It serves it's purpose and was easy on my wallet. It does have a divider for multiple dogs, but we do not need that. Both doors (front and side) work correctly. I would suggest this to anyone looking for a standard, budget friendly cage. We bought the 36 inch long one and it works well for our black lab. He has enough room to stand up, walk in a circle to re-position himself, and can stretch his legs out while laying sideways.JackieR

The metal is well constructed and the two doors are really convenient. The plastic carrying handle is frail and I don't think would last long under a heavy load. The plastic tray seems a little too thin but adequate. Supplied are rubber feet in the form of rubber tubing cut to about 1.5 inches long and split lenghtwise and are simply placed at the corners over the wire on the bottom of the cage. As I was assembling them on my carpet, they kept sliding off so they would not stay long under real conditions. I simply wrapped them in electrical tape and they now stay on.Mike

I received the kennel and took it out to place it in my car. Much to my dismay after going through all that trouble, I noticed this had to have been a return which was not inspected. The bottom front, outer leg had ben bent significantly with a pliers or such, you could see the teeth marks and the vinyl coating was off. Needless to say, the other side was pulled out of alignment and the floor tray was broken. Not a happy camper! Returned it to Walmart and to my dismay once again, they did not carry this particular cage in the store!! The ones they carried in store were twice the price!! I had to reorder and now am awaiting to see what the next one will present.Unhappy

This crate is very light weight and great for travel. It pops up quickly and though a little tricky to compress again, is easy to put away. Larger dogs may be able to roll this crate around. I like that it has a metal door since my pup chewed through the zipper on my last crate during a competition.Sammi

It is utilized in our camper for our 90 pound chocolate lab. She fits well enough to lay down and it was not wrecked the first few uses, but she is crate trained. I do however believe the bottom material could've used some more reinforcement as a dog that size wont take much to make an accidental rip. Folds down very compact and is not complicated to get it that way! Overall, very pleased.Brittany

This crate tucks in nicely by the bed. I had to twist the crate to get it to fit, but since it is soft sided, it was easy to do. I have 2 long haired miniature dachshunds, and they both have plenty of room and are really happy to have their blankets and sleeping space. The crate is well made and is perfect for my needs. I looked at a number of options and could not find another crate as narrow as this one. The metal door is easy to close and I was able to flip it so the door opened the direction I needed. The only negative is with the limited space, the opening radius of the door is fairly limited. Both my dogs can easily fit, but depending on the space in your unit, a larger dog might have troubles fitting through the door. (Again, this limitation is based on the narrow width I have available in my unit.) So happy with the purchase-perfect for the trailer. The dogs give it 4 paws up.Dog L.

I had purchased this crate and I had found the design exactly what I was looking for. So I have bought 2 more and I plan to purchase 2 more soon. I would not choose another brand or style by the same manufacturer because it performs just as I need. My only suggestions are that the crate has a 4 door option and that the tray can be optionally removed from the side. My only complaint is that the instructions to set up the crate were not clear. Once you've done it though no problems. Ready to go in moments of the box!rabowasco

We bought a larger crate 6 months ago that housed 3 small dogs and 2 cats for 3 days while we drove across country. For several months the 3 dogs shared it at night (the cats found another place to sleep). Recently, we decided to separate the 2 older dogs from the younger and bought 2 of the medium sized crates. The "travel crate" was folded and put away in the laundry room for the next time we travel with all our babies, and we stacked the 2 medium crates. Even stacked, these crates have good strength and a solid build. I can't say enough about how exceptional these crates are and the divider is great when needing to separate pets in a pinch.mslubner
