I wish I read all the review before I purchase. The commercial shows all short of good things and provide promises. But it doesn't work as per. Changes gets out within a short time. It doesn't have any obstacle sensor or sense. It cannot go back to its base station as they advertise – and thus if the battery dies – you have to manually hold base station and the dog. I bought two for my twin grandsons. Reading the reviews, I was nervous so I decided to really check them out first. It takes some learning and gives you a chance to charge the robot, the watch and put 4 AAA batteries in the ball. On one unit the robot would get into position to charge on it's base but would not sit down. Once I loaded the app on my I Phone it started to work. Sometimes Chip gets close to the base but can't seem to find it. I just slide Chip in front of the base and Chip does the rest. By linking the ball and watch to the robot and the app on your smart phone, you will save a lot of time when the gift is opened. I made a small "cheat sheet" of the correct words to say for voice recognition and warnings to treat it gently. No rough play, dropping off tables or liquids is guaranteed to extend the life of the toy. Chip's kissing sensor and head stroking sensor do not always work. I'm sure the $ 3,000 Sony Robotic dog is better but that's a lot of money for little kids to risk breakage with. If you can show the child the basics of the voice recognition, and the watch controls, they can play with it right away. The help videos on wowwee.com/chip site are excellent and you should sit down with your child and watch them together. Watches and balls are sometimes more difficult to connect with the first time. For one ball I had to basically touch Chip's head with to change it from flashing blue to solid blue. Then the ball started working from a much further distance. I had a lot of fun testing and learning and expect sometimes things do not react perfectly. Getting it working well by learning it, is half the fun ! If you don't have time and you want to give something "easy" for your child to have fun with , find something else. This should be a great bonding experience between child and adult.granddad
missing the smartband that was suppose to be included. contacted the company that makes Chip and was told that they no longer make him so they don't have any but there are some available in their store and I could buy one. didn't really make much sense to me that I can buy one from them but they can't send one that should of been in the package? We don't use it for treats anymore because the inside piece was destroyed years ago with my other dachshund. I have the Pharaoh hound and he is way too smart for some good, one day I was talking to a trainer and she suggested another interactive food dispenser called Bob a lot I believe it was. Had the lid off within 2 weeks he had little door at the bottom gone in 3 days. I went through 3 other interactive dispensers which did the last a day, seriously I walked away for 5 minutes came back destroyed. This is the 1st one that he wasn't able to destroy right off the bat. It took 6 months and unfortunately my sister did not but the core securely, so I did have to go and buy a new one which I bought for $15 free shipping and handling from eBay, brand-new. We rescued a 1yo Amstaff mix who has a LOT of puppy energy.
