My pom puppy (9 months) is a rather heavy chewer for his size and has chewed through several other food puzzle toys or in the case of simpler, heavy-duty ones like Kongs, he figures them out in a matter of minutes. So far he's had this toy for several weeks and hasn't been able to destroy it (just a few teeth marks), although I did purchase it a size bigger than I thought he needed (size small) because he does chew. I have a 7 year old boxer dog who loves just about any new toy I bring home to him. I thought the Tug-A-Jug would be a great addition to his toy collection, and help keep him busy trying to figure out how to get the treats out of the jar. The jug easily unscrews from the bottom giving you a good size opening to add treats into the jug, but you do either have to keep the jug tilted or cover the opening at the top of the jug where the treats fall out of. The bottom of the jug easily screws back on securely. The jug itself it a hard, thick plastic, making it pretty heavy and bulky to lug around. After giving my boxer, Diesel, the Tug-A-Jug, he immediately wanted to go crazy with it and fling it around! This could cause damage to object indoors or even a person if you happened to be struck with it, due to the weight and size of the jug. We immediately had to take it away from him and only let him play with outside. After the initial excitement Diesel had with receiving a new toy, he noticed the treats but could not figure out how to get them out of the jug. We showed him several times that the treats fall out of the top of the jug around the rope. He no longer wanted to fling the toy around, now he just wanted the treats out. We tried and tried relentlessly to show him how to get the treats but we had no luck. He will now just bring us the toy and whine, hoping we will wiggle the rope and release some treats out on the floor. The Tug-A-Jug is a cute toy with a great concept, but its just too big and bulky. If you have a dog that loves to shake and fling their toys around, I would not recommend this one.Penny K
I have two dogs that I gave this toy to, one a 4 year old very energetic and playful Doberman. She became frustrated very quickly as the opening for the treats to fall out is very small due to the rope at the top. After a while she simply gave up and played with something else. My other dog is a senior mixed breed dog that does not play with toys long but generally will play with a new toy. She did not even touch this one. My dog does not usually play Tug-of-War so I was hoping the Tug-A-Jug would help her understand the game more. Unfortunately my pup was never able to catch on to the purpose of this toy. Instead of playing with the jug my dog smells the treats and sits down to wait for a command. Perhaps if your dog is already accustomed to tug games they will get more use out of this product than my dog did. In general the toy seems too big for any kind of small dog, and even my 100lb American Akita didn’t want to lug the thing around. My dogs liked Squirrel but didn't love it. I've had it with all three of my dogs: a lab/pit mix, lab/catahoula mix, and Shih Tzu mix. All three somehow found a way to work around the toy and get their treats out easier (no matter how big of a treat I put in there). We stopped getting the Squirrel after my lab/catahoula mix, who is a puppy, chewed it into pieces. I thought that the 3 balls shared a single interior section, but they're in fact 3 separate sections with a thick lining separating them. The large version does NOT hold 2/3 of a cup of kibble & the small does NOT hold 1/4 cup of kibble. Filling all 3 sections of the toy, I was only able to put about 2/3 of each dog's meal in the toy and then had to refill with the remaining 1/3 of their meal once they emptied the toy. This is disappointing as these are not large portions & from the exterior, it would appear that the large would easily hold at least 2/3 of a cup of kibble, but it does not.I will keep using it & just have to refill with the remainder of my dogs' meals when they empty the first load, but having a single interior chamber, or at least a far thinner interior chamber would be better. Or at least update the description to tell the buyer exactly how much the whole toy holds when all 3 sections are full so we know if it's big enough for our needs.DogPro

We love this toy. We bought the smaller one and our lab puppy tore the center piece out. So we bought the bigger one. We love that the treats dont fall out all at once. It took him a couple days to figure it out the first time, but now that he has a strategy, it's fun to watch him manipulate the rope and carefully tip up the bottle so the kibble comes out. However, I've already gone through two of them, because the rope wears out in a way that makes the toy unusable. To get kibble out, the dog has to pull/push the rope so it's about halfway in, so the knots don't block the entrance. This means that the middle of the rope is constantly rubbed against the neck of the bottle, in addition to getting chewed by the dog. So after a few months of use, the middle of the rope is worn out and much bendier. This makes it extremely difficult to manipulate in such a way that the dog can get kibble out. As much as my dog enjoys it, I can't really justify buying and throwing away so much plastic. I might try to cut the rope out and replace it.JaspersMom384

My dog loves this. I put about 2 cups of large dog kibble in the large toy. Takes him about 30 min to eat it all. But needs a river gasket pr a change in screw on design as he often unscrew it quickly if not frightened while playing. Also it os hard on furniture as it os a hard plastic and the purple bumpers are not rubber more like soft plastic and either need to be larger or softer . otherwise it often causes lots of banging on furniture. I love the basic design concept especially the egg shape and the rubber prongs holding the food in. The shape makes him have to move it more so the food cant just pour out. Also because some kibble is smaller it would be good to add more prongs that customers could snipe away to allow larger kibble through but of not small kibble will be contained longer. I have two dogs and once I filled the Busy Buddy Kibble Nibble with some of their food, it was on! It only took them a few minutes to figure out how it worked. They then played with it for hours. I could see they were really entertained and mentally engaged. I got the M/L size, even though I have small dogs, but it ended up working out. They could paw and push it around, no problem, my one dog even carried it in his mouth into a dog bed. I may have to get a second one! The opening for the food/treats to fall out is flanked by little strips of plastic, which you can cut back if the food is too big for the opening and won’t come out. However, my dogs’ food is dime-sized and the original opening worked perfectly and did not dispense too fast or slow, so I did not cut it. The product is made of VERY sturdy (but light weight) plastic, so I think large dogs would have trouble damaging it, but it is still easy to open and put treats inside. My Lab is a very strong chewer, hence he only gets tennis balls, or toys by Premier. He can still destroy them, but it takes him longer with the Premier toys. With this toy, once it is chewed through, it becomes two balls that can be used with or without treats. This is by Far my dog'is favorite toy. I originally put treats in the dumbbell but noticed that was difficult for my dog to get out and I did end up taking the treats out and replacing that with kibble. Once I did that, my dog fell in love with the toy and has a great time flipping it up in the air or slamming it in the ground in an effort to get the food out. We have the Bristle Bone and the Busy Buddy Jack, both of which have given the dogs long periods of entertainment. The Cravin' Corncob just arrived and 2 dogs were both able to destroy the rawhide rings within minutes. Since the dogs have chewed on the toy it is not returnable.
