This tent is easy to set up (didn't even need the directions) and super roomy. There is plenty of room to stand up, a benefit in buggy or rainy environments. In its first week of use, it survived a big wind storm, hail, and a lightning storm. It weathered all three spectacularly – as did the people inside! We stayed dry and protected with no problem. We did purchase some beefier stakes to hold it down. The door zip snags a bit, but once you realize that, it is easy to adapt to. Highly recommend.KCartire

This tent is spacious, you can stand in it easily. We were 3 people plus a large dog and we slept in a U shape around the dog. Plenty of space. Great for playing cards at night. This is the tent I enjoy the most so far. Big Agnes has seriously great tents. I can put it up on my own but it's not super easy, here's the procedure roughly: – lay down the tent – place one pole, plug it on one side and even the tent sleeve around the pole – place second pole, plug it on one side and fix up the pole sleeve – step inside the tent and lift the roof, then holding the tent up, go plug the other pole in the other circle on the ground – finish setting up the 2nd pole then add the top pole – open the windows and enjoy For 2 people this is easy to build.Guillaume

This tent is roomy and easy to set up, we were stoked to take it out! Unfortunately THE FIRST TIME we took it out the floor tore. There was a decent gust of that blew the tent over. The fact that it blew over is fine, because we didn’t have the guylines out, however we had a couple duffles in the tent and the floor ripped around one. There were also a few tiny holes from ??!? My wife and I were looking for more space after our first camping trip with our 6mon old in the Copper Spur 3. In that trip we discovered that everyone was much happier with the little one safely confined in his travel crib and that my delusion of a one-tent-for-all trips was naive. So we decided to go bigger. And since we're going big, might as well go Big. I'm glad we did. I spent some time researching the competition and was trying to decide between the Orbit 6, Wawona and the Big House. Frankly, the looks didn't impress at first (Marmot gets my nod there). All are similar in size and are arguably close in build quality. What was the deciding factor for us was the optional vestibule (with optional being the key word). My wife also liked that there was a separate fly (vs. the Wawona) for star-gazing on dry nights. So, we cried (in theory) once and made our purchase. We spent a week in the Smokies at Deep Creek with the Big House 6 and its vestibule. Overall, we were thrilled with the space. It was luxurious. It was amazing to be able to come in at night, stand up (6' 1) while I got ready for bed: put away my headlamp in the upper mesh pocket, go over to my duffle (all of our luggage fits), change, etc without having to disturb the entire tent. In addition to the travel crib, a Hikenture double sleeping pad (also a new addition and total game-changer), and our three and a half bags, a walkway in the center, we even had space for a small camping chair so my wife could privately feed our son….(insert mind-blown emoji here). In the vestibule, we'd store our chairs and a travel table for the little one when we were away or at night to keep them secure and dry. But you already probably suspected the space would be there…so here's my take on the other stuff…. Ease of assembly is good. It did rain (daily afternoon shower) and we kept dry. Breathability is acceptable. It's not quite as breathable in hotter temps as the Wawona (don't ask me how I know), but I expected that and it does have the benefit of a sealing off the vestibule (I suspect this tent will be more comfortable in dusty and cold conditions). I did struggle with the zipper a bit on the front door; BA tout their weather flaps on their zippers and though I do ultimately think it's a good thing, I found that it loves to get caught up in the zipper… even at one point in the middle of the night managing to put a visible loop offset in the zipper (much to the delight of my wife who, despite the prospect of having an inoperable front door, thought this 5m middle of the night struggle was primo entertainment). I can say that the zipper is durable because after exhausting all other options, I pulled on the thing as hard as I possibly could and managed to free and resolve the issue. So all's well that ends well? With care (and probably some improved guy tensioning), this is an avoidable issue. One other thing to note: this tent is huge…so presume you're taking up the entire tent pad with this one; we went border to border on the pad front to back and took up about 80% side to side. Aside from a few minor gripes, I suspect this tent will serve us well for years to come.jmarin

Was finally able to get out and use my tent. Awesome. Very easy to set up(even tho idiot owner didn't use directions) Very roomy and can fully stand without hunching over. After thoroughly researching high quality tents, this was the only one fully meeting our needs : at least 4 person but not ridiculously large, head room for standing up, vestibule for rainy camps, two doors both with option to open up to mesh. This tent is outstanding! Durable floor fabric, lots of pockets for storage, easily set up by two people, packs easily into compartmentalized backpack style bag. Inside stayed completely dry after a day of heavy downpour and enough room for the 3 of us inside and out. Highly recommended!Tako11

Got it a month ago for the big family camp. Had to work tho but for the 3 available weekends. It went up, and down. fast and easy. The zippers are smooth and the fly went on and off as easy. The tent floor was made of the same nylon as the body of the tent. I felt like this wouldn’t hold up well for backcountry hiking, so I returned the tent. The poles were a bit heavy for backcountry hiking as well.Michelle H.

Bought this for our 7 month old Pyrador puppy, who has already outgrown one house. It was easy to put together, and the sturdist dog house we've ever seen. Plus being insulated is perfect for a cold Indiana winter. She's huge and still growing and loves it. The first night she slept in front of it despite dog treats inside. Second night was cooler, she decided to check it out so the head and front paws went thru the swinging door first, and after she had stood that way for about 5 minutes, walked all the way in, and has loved it ever since. From the size if it unless she grows as much as Clifford the big red dog, she'll get to enjoy for a lifetime.PJ

We got this house for a new Boxador puppy so that it can spend most of its time outside. We found it to be a good product. It was easy to put together and does stay much warmer than the outside air. In rainy weather, it stays dry. It is a very large house which would work for a lab or other large dog. No problems with the dog using the door. Only suggestion: add nuts and bolts for the 6 screws. Screwing metal into plastic is not a real good plan. I'm assuming the company will have replacement parts (door, window, etc…) available for my investment!Y Robinson

I love my Big House, so I wanted the matching footprint to make setup easier and keep the interior as dry as possible. If you attach the footprint tonthe poles, there's no space left in the pole nubs to attach to the vestibule. Not a big deal, but it surprised me. I'm sure the material is tough, but it's really thin and I don't expect it to provide much protection from punctures. Camped in the rain, and we didn't get wet inside the tent, so I guess it did its job well enough. Still seems pricey for what you get.KMM1

I lost the footprint for my TigerWall UL3 Platinum at Deadhorse Lake in Utah’s Uintas. I had placed it on a shrub to dry and then forgot to pack it up before leaving camp. I thought this footprint would be a good match, but it turns out the buckles are different than the fly, so I won’t be able to use this footprint in fast fly mode, but it will still work nicely when using the tent body (which is what I always do anyway). For other users, my UL3 Platinum must be an older model that didn’t use the TipLok buckles, nor the buckles on this footprint which appear to be a version between the traditional clip buckles and the TipLok because it has a similar buckle to the TipLok, but without the hole for the tent pole.Joel

I spent a lot of time researching two person backpacking tents. In the end, it was basically impossible to find another tent at this weight, with these features, at this price. You can go lighter by: 1) Going to a single-wall design like the Flash, but this introduces condensation issues. 2) Using your trekking poles as tent poles, but I often don't use trekking poles and wanted to take this tent bikepacking. 3) Get a tent from a small boutique manufacturer, but these can be hard to find and usually similar price & weight after you add poles. 4) Use a bivy, but these are not comfortable, not built for two, have condensation issues, and are ultimately not that much lighter (you might save 1lb). Surprisingly, REI's own-brand competitor tent, the Quarter Dome SL 2, is 10oz heavier *and* more expensive than the Fly Creek. I don't know why anyone would choose it over this one. Anyway, this Fly Creek tent is spacious, easy to set up (stake the corners first before doing the poles!), super packable, and ridiculously light. And while not cheap, it's more affordable than other options in the ultralight category. It's spacious for one person, and decent for two—which is about what you can expect from an UL backpacking tent. On our two-person Exped SynMat HL Duo sleeping pad in MW size, my partner and I didn't feel cramped and had plenty of space between our heads and the door to stash clothing and accessories. Trade-offs to be aware of: 1. If you ditched the rain fly for a dry weather trip, the all-net interior tent wouldn't give you much privacy. Older models had translucent material up halfway. There's probably a reason for the all-net (cost and/or weight savings), and it's fine when you use the rain fly, but takes this down a small notch in versatility. 2. If you aren't able to stake the end corners (e.g. camping on rock), the tent will be a lot less taut and spacious. But usually, if this is the case, there are rocks around you can place on the guylines to do the same thing as stakes (I did this one night in Utah). You can save yourself the trouble by going up to the freestanding Copper Spur, but that adds a fair amount of weight and a ton of cost. 3. The footprint is sold separately for an exorbitant fee. You can cut your own using window insulation film (aka polycro) or use Tyvek. Best of luck on your adventures!ayoba

I was particularly attracted to this tent as it allows me to sit up in the entrance, so great for some shelter for the stove etc, or just to get dressed. This tent literally halved the weight of my first 1 man bike packing tent, despite having a much better height and length. The internal net shelves were super-handy for keeping clothing stored somewhere dry, I even use the media shelf to watch a movie on my iPhone. Very easy to put up, I'd suggest a couple of practises before heading out as it is important to get the outer layer lined up properly before securing the ropes. The pegs are lightweight but decent quality – usually one of he issues with very light tens packages. Only slight negatives – it is definitely not cheap, but I saw it as an investment for years of bike packing. Also, being this lightweight inevitably means the fabrics are more delicate, so extra care needed when packing it and using zips, so not to tear the fabricAustin

The fly holds up well and the poles are sturdy enough for some strong Rocky Mtn wind and rain. Even held up to a pretty severe hail storm recently, with no damage to the tent or fly. Every once in awhile I get some condensation on the floor of the tent, which is likely down to user error and footprint slippage.C

This tent is super easy to set up. It's color coded so that it's "fool proof". It's super light and spacious too. I did not experience any condensation whatsoever. On my last trip, I put my backpack in the back of a side by side, and we rode for many miles into the mountains then planned to backpack from there. During the ride, my tent poles were riding vertically and ended up rubbing on the bed of the side by side – enough to cut the shock cord. With a big storm rolling in and rain already getting our gear wet, I was in a hurry to set up my tent. Since my pole sections were not held together, it made the task difficult in a timely manner. In the excitement of quickly setting up, I pulled too hard (possibly to the wrong tent pole) and ripped my tent. The Big Agnes team eagerly and quickly helped me to repair the shock cord and the tent body so that I could quickly return to the mountains for another trip. Big Agnes service is of the best I've ever dealt with. They clearly value their customers and make things right even if it's not their defect. I would highly recommend this company who stands behind their product like no other. They went above and beyond all expectations. This tent is lightweight and quick to set-up. I like having 2 exits, makes it more convenient. The downside (if you can call it that) is that you can fit 4 people here only if they all use narrow mummy sleeping bags — or if 2 of the people are young kids. If you're using wider sleeping bags or pads, I'd say the capacity is for 3 adults.Oleg

I searched everywhere for a 4 man tent that could be used for my family of me, my wife and two sons for lightweight backpacking. After months of web searching I decided on this. Have just returned from three days use in the Cairngorm Mountains in Scotland and overall we are impressed! The tent easily fits us all and in the wet weather we were able to store wet packs and waterproofs in one porch and cook in the other. I was worried about the stability, but it did handle 35mph winds, for the weather I need it for it was fine, for really bad weather i.e. Scottish high level camping I would use a heavier 4 season tent. I made sure it was pitched correctly and I did use extra long strong pegs, plus all guys out. The tent did buck and boom A LOT, but it held, although it is noisy as fly creaks over poles. There was one point early in the night where one of the poles bowed in rather alarmingly, but I retightened all the anchor points – which had slackened off slightly, and it didn't happen again even though the winds increased. As the dad I never sleep well in bad weather, but the tent stood up to the gusts and the family slept. It endured prolonged, wind driven torrential rain and we stayed completely dry. No condensation even with the four of us in the tent in cool 6ºc temps. I did put an old shower curtain under the groundsheet to protect it – I will probably buy the footprint. We had to strip down in the rain and managed to pack everything including the inner from within the fly (tricky without the proper footprint, but 'do-able') emerging to quickly pack the rain soaked fly in a dry bag for the walk out. For what we need, 3 season backpacking, it is ideal.Aviemoron

I got this tent when my wife and I started our 2 kids (+dog) backpacking. I wanted something that was light enough for me to carry by myself, but large enough to fit the whole family. This was one of the few tents that fit the bill. It's worth paying the premium for a tent of this quality and weight. Our most typical hikes involve 1 or 2 adults, 2 kids (now aged 12 and 14) and a 100lbs dog. There is plenty of room for all of us in the tent, ans space in the two awnings for backpacks. We each have an internal pocket for head torches and electronics. After some use, the shock cording on the poles became slack. I have fixed tent poles before, but figured I would return these poles to the Big Agnes support center, and they fixed it (for free!) in less than a week. All in all, the customer service experience has made more even more loyal to Big Agnes – clearly they stand behind their products.TImothyM

I bought this tent simply based on the full sized rain fly that most family sized tents do not have. It did not disappoint! 2” of rain in four hours and not a single leak! Lot’s of room inside. Definitely a 2 person job to put up, but color coordination poles and loops make it easy to figure out. Only drawback was the cheap tent stakes that came with it. This shelter is imbued with the qualities it purports. Our baby's first surf trip was harangued by an incessant wall of mist and drizzle and this magnificent little shelter saved the day. Be aware that this thing will achieve liftoff in a moderate wind if not properly secured. Some guy wires and sand anchors might come in handy. Did I mention that it looks super cool too?Thomas

This is like an expedition tent only for 3 seasons into late autumn. It's very easy to pitch and is very roomy. I can use this even into October using my winter bag. I was able to have room to spare inside with my 2 person sleeping bag and backpack and clothing. The vestibule is roomy and adds more living/gear space. I recently spent a week primitive camping and I had zero issues with the tent. A couple of days were cold and windy and with the tent staked out there was no giving with the wind whatsoever. With the vestibule door and main interior door zipped I stayed warm and the interior of the tent was comfortable. One thing I found beneficial was the rear exit through the body of the tent and unzipping the back vestibule. It actually has 3 doors altogether. I did use a ground cloth. I think 50 dollars for a footprint is a pretty steep. I bought an 8 dollar plastic drop cloth to use under it instead. I definitely recommend using a ground cloth in the front vestibule as well. It keeps allot of debris out of the tent. This is heavy for backpacking. However, for car camping, it works great. Overall, I'm quite happy with this purchase. Big Agnes are very high quality products and you won't throw good money after bad with any of their products.Truman

The first time we used our Big Agnes Blacktail Hotel 3, we had a multi-inch downpour within 30 minutes of putting it up. Then it poured several times for hours over the next few days. The vestibule got wet but the tent inside stayed dry (be careful with the top vents being open during downpours though as you can get misting). The edges of the vestibule got wet inside at the edges. it was raining so hard the splatters were going up a foot so a lot of this was splatter under the fly, or just flooding water flowing past the tent. Negative, from my perspective it is huge, but we went from 2 person to a 3 person + large vestibule and small vestibule fly. The negative is it is harder for one person to put up and you need more space to set it up. The large vestibule could likely fit a bike and while awkward during downpours due to the fly slopping the vestibule openings helped with entry exit to keep the main part of the tent dry. Having only used it once it is still odd to match all the tabs in the right place for the footprint and fly when erecting the tent due to the two different sized vestibules. The tab color coding could be better. You also need to add a lot more tent stacks to tie down all the fly points than the tent comes with. That said I'd likely buy it again.Crumbs

Love the space, easy to setup and love the giant vestibule. But… 1) the cross pole design screams weak in strong winds to me. I added velcro cord wrap the the poles, to help with packing the poles, and to wrap around the crossing poles for some stability. 2) the guy line points, they don't have the velcro tabs to attach to the poles, so its integrity in high winds is down to the plastic buckles. 3) Not enough pockets. It's all on one side of the tent. So, orientation of the tent body relative to the ground slope and your sleeping position is important.Angry Asian Man

I bought this tent to replace an aging Eureka Nightscape (very airy but strange set up with the operable fly). We wanted something a little taller and quicker to set up. With 2 main poles and one for the fly this was very easy to set up. And the straps are color coded so make it even easier! Even the ground cloth had color coded straps. Used it on a trip out East the past August, where the temp was in the 90's. Although the screens front and rear could be a little larger, it was fine. It also rained during one night, and we were totally dry even with the windows opened. We were able to stand up inside with a little bending over (I'm 5'-8"). The color is bright to see at night, although it did get a little muddy from the rain. This tent is perfect for two. Four would be tight. Hopefully, this tent will give us many years of use.James s.

Had the opportunity to use this vestibule along with our newly purchased Big Agnes Big House 6 tent this past weekend. It was pouring rain for hours, but setup was an absolute cinch (even without reading any instructions), and we were able to stay quite dry while we waited out the storm. We even were able to back our SUV with the tailgate up right up to the vestibule as we unloaded the car, staying completely dry doing so. The vestibule gave us an excellent place to sit in our camp chairs while everything around us got absolutely soaked.JMC889

Great addition to the Big House. We store all of our gear and chairs in here. Helps create a nice transition from the outdoors to the tent without tracking in all the dirt and wet stuff. Good open air cover from the rain. We love all the different possible configurations. Only downside we found is that zipping can sometimes be a little finicky, especially if we had a sloppy setup.david

We got the Big House 6 and I wasn't initially sure if we needed the vestibule because we had so much space inside the tent. But a week camping in Yellowstone, with multiple days of rain, convinced me I made the right choice. We were able to keep the campfire wood and a bunch of other gear dry/drying out under this big ol' vestibule — life would have been hard without it. Used the Moosejaw rewards from buying the Big House to get a little discount on the vestibule, which was nice. 🙂KMM1
