Best Dog Toy For Pitbulls (2024 Update)

I liked that this chew toy was durable and had some weight to it, but my dog doesn’t play with the toy at all. I believe this is the toy he could not “destroy” and didn’t want anything to do with it. It did have a rubbery smell, so he might have been turned off by that, but it was a waste of money for me. I would recommend this chew stick to anyone with larger dogs that have a big bite, because I’m sure it definitely let’s them enjoy themselves more.katrina.s

This chew toy is probably good for moderate chewers, but not for heavy chewers. My 60 lb. dog had teeth marks all over this toy in a matter of minutes, and it looks very unstable as if it will completely tear apart with one good tug. I was disappointed given how expensive it is, and that I thought it had a good warranty. But if you go to the website for the return that is guaranteed, you will find that you have to pay shipping to return it, and give the company a check for $7.50 for them to ship the new toy to you. That's about $15 for a $22 toy. I wanted to upgrade to the Maxx toy to see if it will last longer, but the hassle doesn't seem worth it.brahm13

I bought the small toppls and my two cavaliers love them. I've used it at dinner time with soft foods and some chopped up pieces of prime100 and it kept them busy for a good 7-ish minutes (which is much longer than the few seconds it usually takes them to practically inhale their food). I love that it can be used with kibble as well as a treat dispenser (although you need to buy two different sized ones to do this). Overall very impressed, but I would recommend waiting until they're on sale to buy.smp

These are amazing. We're in the process of diagnosing some GI issues with our 8 month puppy, and she's on a very limited diet and can't have any treats, chews or bones. It's a terrible age to not be able to give anything but prescription food. She can't be trusted with soft toys or rope toys, and has no interest in kongs or other rubber things. These are perfect for keeping her busy. We pack her kibble and some wet food in them and freeze them. They take her a good 30 minutes or more to finish, and she has yet to damage one. Plus, they're super easy to clean. I just throw them in the dishwasher!Michelle

The blue/orange chuckit balls are great and loved by the dogs over their original orange/blue ones (those who know understand what I'm saying), but, they don't last long. The squeaker pops out of it's holder inside the ball after about four chomps. Then rattles around inside the ball. Then, after a few days of hard playing, the "plug" pops out of the ball and eventually sinks causing you to buy another one. Hence, why I buy 5 at a time if I can. I love the orange chuck it balls – with the throwing stick they fly a long way (40m with a weak throwing arm). Perfect for my German Shepherd. The orange ones never get chewed through unlike tennis balls. My dog loves squeakers so I thought this would be a perfect ball. Unfortunately, squeaker stopped working after approx 5 hours of play. One fell apart inside, the other I suspect was full of saliva. Also don't buy if you will have them inside, they are too loud with an irritating sound.Chris

I ordered this ball from Chewey.com. My pit bulls destroy every toy I’ve ever gotten for them within the first few minutes so I wasn’t holding much hope that this ball would be any different. When I felt how soft it is my thought was even stronger that in no time at all id be picking up little pieces of this ball from all over the house. Babygirl was so excited to see her new squeaky ball, and with that the dog vs ball match was on! I would have bet money that Babygirl would prove victorious in no time at all, but that didn’t happen. After about 1 1/2 hrs of nonstop chewing on it she exhausted herself, and took a short break. Although the squeaker stopped working the ball was unharmed. When I say that Baby is a aggressive chewer I mean it. It’s been 3 hrs of basically non stop chewing on that ball and Im blown away that it’s still in one piece so I came to your site to submit a review (reviewed on Chewey also) and to buy more for my other 2 dogs. This ring was the best investment! My pup goes through most chew toys in minutes as she LOVES to chew. This ring lasted a little over 7 months before she got to the red “safety” layer. I sent it in for the guarantee (paid shipping both ways, around $15) and got a brand new one! My pup has been chomping the new one for almost 2 months and it’s going strong. HIGHLY recommend for pups that love to chew! I want to mention that it is fairly large and heavy (my pup loves to swing it around and it has a somewhat frightening loud drop – but you get used to it). It also smells rubbery (because it’s a really high quality rubber) and now my pup thinks things like erasers are her toys. This is an amazing product, tough, good size & well made. Mabel my dog took to it right away….and then…..when it wouldn't break up or fall apart – she wasn't that impressed. HOWEVER – as her other toys are getting ruined & chucked, there is less choice for her & she is having another "go" at the GoughNut. So not overly satisfying for her at this early stage – but VERY satisfying as an owner. I can see that in no time – this will be her only chewing toy remaining & it will last. I have an 8 month old Shetland Sheepdog puppy who is HUGE for a Sheltie. He is nearly 30 lbs, an active, heavy chewer and has destroyed every toy known to man…….EXCEPT FOR HIS HURLEY!!!!! It is also the ONLY toy to keep him occupied for an hour or more!! I put treats in ours and give it to him and he goes to town. I have another treat toy from the company that begins with a "K" that doesn't keep his attention nearly as long as his beloved Hurley does. I am so impressed with West Paws products!!!! Our 17 month old Bernedoodle has destroyed every chew toy we have ever gotten her within MINUTES. Even things that came in subscription boxes for super chewers. She can go through some Yak Cheese “long-lasting” chews in twenty minutes. Bison knee-bones are reduced in size by a third in an hour. I was disappointed with this dog toy. I purchased it because I had previously purchased the sheep version from a different outlet which was quite robust. This one only lasted a week before the stitching around the neck unravelled. This was a shame because it had to be thrown away.janpenang

My Queensland Heeler, Xena, wore her first Zisc out! I bought a glow in the dark one, but never played at night. When she wore the other one out, I bought an orange one and a blue one, so they would show up. The glow in the dark one turned kind of brown in the dirt and got lost lots of times. We live on acreage. Anyway, thank you for a great product. It's durable enough for her and the size is perfect. If she picks it up from the ground, she paws at it and folds it in half like a taco and brings it to me! When she wears out these two, I will certainly buy another two!Darlene B.

I first saw this product at the dog park and was interested in finding a frisbee for my blue healer that would NOT cause friction like the "soft bite floppy disc" we have been using. This friction cause by the nylon weave files her cannine teeth and because she loves frisbee so much we play 5 to 7 days a week for excercise. I have taught over 300 plus dogs over the past few years frisbee with this "soft bite" mentioned above and figured when I saw this frisbee by called Zisc by West Paw Design…I thought it would do well since the guy who was tossing it to his dog let me try it….It does fly well…but, because of its heavy weight and square edge….the dogs have a very very low percentage of catches because this Zisc "bounces" right out of their mouth upon impact during the catch…unless the dog catches it with the perfect angle…speed…etc. My dog is an AMAZING athlete and can catch the "soft bite" nylon fabric frisbee no matter how it is throw…she even flips backwards if the wind catches it and take it back….but, with the Zisc if the wind catches it and takes it back then the Zisc drops like a heavy anvil and hits the dogs mouth with too much force. Also, due to its design it is difficult for the dog to pick up on firm surfaces. This frisbee lost its luster within 20 minutes my dog did not want to play with it. I tried again the next day and the same thing happened my dog made several attempts to catch it and due to the low percentage of successful catches…she would drop the Zisc and walk away from it….which is absolutely unheard of with my blue healer…this dog will play and retrieve until my arm wears out. My dog and I tried the KONG one finally after having problem with the Zisc….the Kong one is shaped better…fly's better….at she is able to catch it without it bouncing out of her mouth….KONG offers a smaller thinner version for puppies which is the one she seems to like the best…it is lighter and more supple and she is back to making dramatic aerial catches again. Maybe it is due to the fact that she has a smaller mouth then a lab or a golden and maybe this Zisc works better with a bigger dog with a larger more powerful mouth….my healer is only 45 lbs…so that is something to consider. I noticed personally throwing the Zisc that the outer edge bends too much during my throw and when the dogs siliva gets on it…it tends to slip out. I thing the material it is made out of is only "semi" durable because I bought one of the balls too and my other dog…Aussie Sheperd took little chunks out of it within 10 minutes of playing and chewing on it. I have NO AFFILIATION with KONG…but, I find their material to be way more durable, but only in that snowman shape original toys…..that's my opinion and my experience…good luck finding the right toy for your dog. My lab fell in love with this frisbee! It flies super well even in harsh winters. She goes crazy just at the sight of it and would fetch that thing as many times as I can throw it. She loves to fold it in half and run around with what I call "big lips" or shake it around and teach it who's boss. I believe the squeaky texture of the rubber is what does it, like a good french poutine, the secret is the squeaky cheese curds. After about 6 – 7 months of daily play (maybe half hour to an hour) she does manage to break through the centre and over the course of a week she will end up ripping the centre apart. This does affect the flight capabilities but she seems oblivious to its degraded state and runs around wearing it like a crown or a horse bit. I decided to try the Love it Guarantee but being in Canada this usually means some strings attached. Sent in my claim and within a couple weeks I got a new frisbee in the mail, no duty fees nothing. Great work West Paw! I had gone out and bought a new one in the mean time (the $25 – $30 is well worth the months of play my lab gets out of it) but then lost that in one of the massive snow falls we had (wish I had the glow in the dark ones but can't find them in stock anywhere!) so I went out and bought another! So now I have 2 and with any luck once the snow melts I'll find that third one if no one gets to it first! I also have the Hurly and a Tizzy which I love to fill with peanut butter and ground up kibble and stick it in the freezer and then let her lick and chew for an hour or so (especially with the closed/locked tentacles). And for Xmas we gave her bestie who is 50% her size the small frisbee so they can chase their own. Her bestie is a ball hound but balls are horrible in winter as they disappear easily in the snow, but she has been super attached the frisbee since she got it too. Our lab is a destructive chewer and had already gnawed right through several toys when Chopper & Otis was recommended to us. The Big Dawg Dumbbell (extra large size) was the first toy we bought, and he was an immediate fan. It is quite heavy, but the rubber bounces multiple times, even when tossed gently. He enjoys playing fetch and tug of war with it in addition to gnawing and pawing at it. It is easy to clean and its surface is appealingly smooth. Definitely recommend for power chewers.Simon

We haven't used this one much yet. So far it appears to be holding up well to our power chewer. The holes in the large size are pretty big, but not big enough to accommodate a milk bone. I was totally unaware of the size & weight of these toys. The rubber one weighs nearly as much as my small dog & is bigger than his head. The soft toy was also bigger than his head. The toys themselves are fine but please give some indication of what size dog they are good for. I put a couple of long tubular treats inside the Qwizl, and at first I was concerned that they were too large for him to reach. Over a couple of days, however, he managed to lick the treats down to nothing — and in the meantime, kept himself entertained for hours. He loves picking it up and dropping it — its erratic bounces keep him fully engaged and enthralled. He carries the Qwizl all around the house, and I have to tell him to leave it inside when we go out. He runs to it as soon as we get back inside. I'm so glad we got this one!!Dianne

Our dog loves this ball. Harder than I thought it would be so not suitable for indoors. Beware outdoors though if you have a greenhouse, we now have to replace a lower pane of glass where the ball rolled to and it wasn't moving very fast either. An instant favorite tug toy for my almost full grown puppy, it just didn’t hold up for very long to his new strong adult teeth. This features a knot and loop on each end for grip while the pup is tugging and a great rubber chew bone in the middle, but it took my dog about 20 minutes before he was pulling white string from the inside of the rope. I was given this item by Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion! Honestly, my dog should be the one to write this review since it’s her toy, but since she can’t type, I’ll have to review this for her! I have a 25lb heeler/pomeranian mix (aka a peeler) who LOVES this toy. This toy combines three of her favorite ways to play: whipping, tugging, and fetching. This is a toy that she enjoys playing with by herself to chew on and thrash around (standerbys beware, the rope hurts when it whips you!), but she also enjoys when I engage her with this toy. We’ve played a lot of tug of war using the convenient loop handles on it, but my favorite part of this toy is that it actually floats in water! My pup absolutely adores swimming, and she really enjoyed getting to play fetch with this toy in the rivers of Tennessee. The knots in this toy do take a little bit of time to dry out, so I recommend leaving this toy in a warm sunny spot after you get it wet so that the rope doesn’t get mildewy on the inside. We’ve had this toy for just over a month now, and it’s still not showing any major signs of wear and tear despite playing with it almost daily. If she had to rate this toy, I think my dog would give it 10 out of 10 paws up!Erin B

Keep it away from the German Shepherd — she destroyed one in under 30 minutes. . . But, for the Malamute? PRICELESS. KONG toys are by far the best most durable toys we have found. The Shepherd? She LOVES the disk. And if it squeaks? All the better until they destroy the squeaker inside. After that it doesn't matter. It is by far the "go to" toys. The new toys are inside a box, packed tight. We have all three colors of large jive balls for our very destructive goldendoodle chewers! The jive ball is a win win at our house! Every other toy does not last a day. From the moment Belle’s jive ball got here it’s been her go-to ball. Belle, who is a registered wrecking ball, destroys or eviscerates every toy (if you consider my Furnature a toy) we’ve introduced to her. Not the jive. Our trainer, Marty Strausbaugh of Pawsitive Training, suggested your company and specifically the jive ball. And boy I’m glad he did. I confess I use it in the house when the weather is inclement. I bowl in across the living room thru the dining area into the kitchen over and over and over again. I wish I had a video to show but I can’t bowl and photo at the same time. I have an American Staffordshire Terrier and an American Pitbull Terrier. As other owners of these breeds can likely attest they can pretty much destroy anything short of steel and concrete. I purchased all sorts of toys for my pups and nothing lasted more than ten minutes before having to take it away and through it in the trash due to being torn to pieces or in the process of. I bought toys from Kong, Supper Chewer, Bully Make and others. Every toy except for the standard Kong Cone and a rubber soda can made it. My wife found West Paw and I gave them a shot. These toys are fantastic! They have lasted for months! They are so good that I can actually let them play with these unattended. Take my word for it, if you have a doggo that can chew through anything then these are the toys you need. It’s so durable, he’s a super chewer but we have had this for over a month and he hasn’t been able to break it, even though he sits and gnaws on it. It’s great for throwing, especially indoors because of its soft rubber. The size is great, easy enough for him to carry it around and for me to grab the other end to play tug of war. It's a nice product, however our pit has destroyed 2 of these. The seams come apart when tugged and pulled. We do have the bumi, qwizil and jive which are all amazing and hold up great!! They say you can have an item replaced but if you no longer have your purchase information your out of luck if your pooch does destroy a toy like our situation. Otherwise the other toys are great. The skamp just doesn't hold up as tough, I suppose since it's hollow. I would certainly try other toys from West Paw.Candice T.

Not for our black lab aka our tough chewer, within a few mins tiny plastic was everywhere. She also ripped off the covering (as designed) and does love that scrap but the rubber portion underneath she rips off into small pieces… nothing but rubber crumbs everywhere. Our pit bull destroys any plush toy within a day, even the firehouse material ones that say they are for super chewers. I was excited to see this toy and got it for our girl a week ago. The toy is still intact and she LOVES it. She chews on it super hard and hasn’t been able to break through the fabric yet. I like that if she does rip the fabric there is another toy inside. My dog always chews and chews until her new toy that I just spent money on is destroyed! But not these KONG Wubba's! My dog is a one year old athletic, hyper, but totally loving dog. It does many wonderful things for my babies. Gives them exercise when they run for it after I throw it,they interact with each other playing tug of war,they can play with it outside in the snow (when it gets warmer) they can play with it in the summer when we go to the lake (it's water proof) It is just a great toy all around.
