Maybe this works for other cats, but my cat – who doesn't have a picky palette at all, for the record – sniffed this and completely avoided it. I tried exposing him to it over the course of a week or so, putting a little dab on his favorite treats just to see if he'd go for that. He did, very begrudgingly. Today, I tricked him a little and got him to actually lick a dab of it, and he seemed absolutely disgusted and put off… Honestly it was sort of funny. I’ve never seen my dog have a physical reaction to anything like he did to the smell of this toothpaste. It’s like he was offended that I even offered it to him. With lots of praise and a little coercion he eventually let me brush he teeth a little bit. The smell is kind of off putting. I’ve smelled better pet tooth paste that was more appealing to pets. However, my cat is willing to let me brush his teeth with some bribery. I’ve used my finger like it says for first time brushers, (it came with a tooth brush and finger cap) and noticed i could feel some of the plague coming off his teeth as I was brushing. He doesn’t drool as much anymore either so this is really helping. The finger cap it came with is a bit big for a cats mouth so id prefer my finger over it. I really wanted to try out a teeth whitening product and I was about to buy one of the expensive whitening light kits but I saw this. I know baking soda is good for whitening your teeth like other methods. I gave it a try since it was cheap and well for one, the taste isn’t really the best but it’s bearable, there is a bit of mint flavor that they added so that helped a lot. If the taste is still not great for you they also have other products with extra mint flavor. Just from the first use I saw some pretty good results. It was not completely white obviously but just using the product everyday over time it helps significantly. I actually really like this product, if you are looking for a cheap easy way to whiten your teeth without looking for results right on the spot, I think this is a great one.giana.r

I use a number of Arm and Hammer products. Unfortunately, the toothpaste is not one of my favorites. When I used it, I couldn't stand the taste. It literally made my gag. We got this on Amazon for my two schnauzers and I brush their teeth with this every night. The toothbrush provided is meant for medium size dogs and for the back teeth. I use my finger and a little toothpaste for the front teeth as it’s harder to use the brush there. If you can get your dog to keep its mouth open long enough, you will see that you can actually brush out gunk! Highly recommendjanet.w

Gel is fine but the toothbrush is made in China. How much would it really cost to make a toothbrush in America. Haven't we learned not to source products from China for our pets? We have used Nylabone toothpaste and finger brush for our dogs for a few years now. We brush their teeth every couple of weeks when they get a bath. Obviously I haven’t tried to toothpaste for myself and my dogs hate having their teeth brushed, but the vet always says their teeth look healthy so I’m assuming it works!dakota.m

Have you brushed your dog's teeth lately? My review is on Vet's Best, Dental Gel Toothpaste. I know and understand just how important my dog's dental care really is. I haven't done such a good job on brushing their teeth. The starting point is to find a quality toothpaste for my dogs. After using, "Vet's Best" Nature's Health Care, Dental Gel Toothpaste, I think it is indeed, a quality toothpaste. The toothpaste's ingredients were formulated by a Veterinarian using a combination of natural ingredients. Those ingredients include Neem oil, baking soda, grapefruit seed extract, aloe and enzymes. My older dog hasn't had her teeth brushed in a good while. This will be the first time for my younger dog. I know it will take some time to get them use to this routine so, I plan to brush their teeth at least 2-3 times a week. Some dog owners brush their dog's teeth everyday. You will have to make that decision yourself. My older dog's gums bled a little more than I expected. Therefore, everyday is not a good idea for her until this bleeding stops. I'm an RVT and we consistently sell out of this flavor at the clinic. It's also what I use for my dogs – they love it! I think most people gravitate towards this flavor because the others are more geared towards the dogs (ie- poultry flavor). One of my dog absolutely loves this stuff. He knows when it's time for his teeth brushing and sits their and licks all of the paste through the cracks in his teeth while I brush. Bought first tube awhile back and was trying to find the same brand. This is only place I could find it. It is smaller tube now, but that's fine since I don't want it to expire. This Arm Hammer Dog Toothpaste Toothbrush works excellent for my dog. He doesn't like his teeth brushed, but I do it anyway. The smell of the toothpaste grosses me out, but I guess they have to try and make it a flavor that dogs will like. The toothbrush that came with the toothpaste I didn't like at all, so I bought him a different one. The one that came with it had bristles on three sides, and I couldn't get it to stay on his teeth. This is a really great toothpaste that has helped my dog's breath and tartar. Price is much better than pet stores. My dog doesn't mind the taste. We've seen improvement in his teeth condition when using this toothpaste and brushing at least 3-4 times a week and his teeth were considered moderate-severe in terms of tartar and plaque and needing a professional dental cleaning. Well we've kept up with brushing and his teeth are mild-moderate now and vet says we can wait another year at most for that professional cleaning. Don't wait like we did and brush your dogs teeth weekly if not daily. If your dog is not used to having his/her teeth brushed don't give up… you can train them to like it, be gentle and reward them and be patient because over time they can learn. Okay, so I thought it was a little funny that dogs have small toothbrushes and flavored toothpaste because I’ve never heard of it. But it is amazing. My pup had smoker’s breath. I mean like it was absolutely horrendous. I have been using this product as of recently and love it. He no longer has bad breath and his teeth look so clean. My pup really likes the flavor of the toothpaste and loves getting his teeth brushed. Every time I whip out the toothbrush, he hops around and gets so excited. You do have to slowly train your dog to get them used to the feeling, but they get used to it quickly and learn to love it. I purchased this tube from Chewy.com for my Sheltie. I've been brushing his teeth since he came home as a baby, and he also gets Plaqueoff in his food. The breed is notorious for dental issues, so I'm hoping to keep things at bay by being proactive with his dental health. Petsmile interested me because I saw that this was the only toothpaste with the VOHC seal–so I opted to try it. He doesn't seem to be in love with the flavor, which I took a shot on, but it's not bothering his gums or his stomach. He has some tooth staining, which this paste hasn't really removed, but I have noticed some small bits of plaque on his smaller bottom teeth is now gone, by about half. I brush his teeth every night, so other than adding this paste into our routine, I'm inclined to think that's what finally dissolved that tartar. Yay! I wish Petsmile offered every flavor in a smaller tube, though, because even though this was pricey, it was still cheaper than the $25 standard tube. I also am keeping my fingers crossed for a vanilla or mint flavor will become available, because my boy loves vanilla so much. I currently use a USDA organic dog toothpaste, which is cinnamon flavored, but it doesn't have the VOHC seal, nor the enzyme technology. However, he loves that flavor! I actually brush with the cinnamon flavored paste, then apply the Petsmile as a finisher, because it'll sit in his mouth all night and I do like the fact that brushing with this isn't necessary. I'm going to purchase the cheese flavor today, even though it's a bigger tube, because I'm hoping that he'll enjoy it a bit more, and I do think it's making somewhat of a difference. We have been using this toothpaste for about 6 months, after having to spend $$$+ on specialty dental care. They had a follow up exam this week, and got an A from their veterinarian dentist. He commented that he rarely sees actual improvement- but both of our senior dogs did improve “vastly” after 6 months of daily use. I ordered this months ago after checking the list of VOHC-approved dental products. I've always brushed my dogs teeth and, although this product is expensive, it's the only VOHC-approved toothpaste. I notice a difference in teeth cleanliness and am looking forward to the dogs next annual veterinary visit. The dogs might get a dental because all I can see is what's above the gum line, but if a visible inspection was the only criteria for a dental, my guys would not need one. Bristles could be softer for the gums, but overall for the price, is a very good option from a reputable brand, just be careful around the gums and all is well!
