Advantix 2 Large Dog For Sale (2024 Update)

I was on frontline for years but when I thought I saw a couple fleas on my dogs in September 2020, I decided to make a switch to Advantage II for my cats and Advantix II for my dogs— BIGGEST mistake of my life (seriously, like over any horrible exes). I have $515.97 in receipts I submitted to the company (which was as horrible as the experience, which I will get to) and spent an additional $70 in store (in which I cannot find the receipt) since September 2020 to December. I followed every tip on the website and insert and my animals were still covered. I applied perfectly. I applied initially weekly, vacuum daily, steam cleaned, wash bedding constantly, etc. I don’t even have carpet but on the stairs and have treated the stairs and couches with Predcor. I even bought those flea traps with the sticky bottoms. I am not including any of this in that total I spent– that was all on the flea medications themselves for the 6 animals. I have saved some, not all, of the vials so on 11/13 I called Elanco. They denied my request for any type of refund. They questioned my exact dosage dates and frequency more than a doctor wants to know about your menstrual cycles but I took my best guesses, for all 6 animals although I did know what schedule they were on but didn't have it in front of me. Then they said that the product was probably not working because I bathed my dogs initially at the beginning 48 hours before application?? Their website TELLS you to bathe them before application (see 2nd screenshot posted)! I stopped bathing them after the 2nd application as it wasn't working and the dogs were miserable and only tried 2 cats (and really only 1 successfully because we all know how that goes). They then told me that I didn't give the product long enough?? Their website states (see 3rd screenshot) and is the same for Advantage II "K9 Advantix® II kills fleas within 12 hours. New fleas that jump on the dog from the surroundings, such as grass, carpet and pet bedding, are killed within 2 hours with protection against further infestation for at least 4 weeks." I tried their products, $600 worth on 6 animals, as scheduled, no missed doses for 4 months. I can’t blame it on just one animal or one batch—it didn’t work on 6, or one batch! I am very upset. Not only have I wasted money on these but I have bought corresponding products, sprays for the beddings, flea traps, etc. I FINALLY called Terminex and had to spend 12 hours clearing out under my beds, closets, getting everything off my floors, moving furniture etc. (time I will never get back) and getting my children and pets out of the house and went back to the brand that works: FRONTLINE! NO MORE FLEAS– what I should have done in the first place. I am so upset not by the fact that the product didn't work but by the way the company handled it, dodging any responsibility from blaming it on the baths they recommend to the length of time I gave it when they could have just refunded me and had someone that isn't going to not only post this review every place I bought it (not just here) but every other place that allows a review to include social media.Intelhottie

We bought Advantix liquid application anti-flea and tick treatment because it is effective, was less expensive and did not require a prescription. We had easily and successfully used liquid Advantix for years with our Plott hound mix. We now have a beagle. Beagle hair is different; it's thick, coarse, oily, kind of water proof and difficult to part in order to properly apply the liquid to the skin. Advantix is a very good product, but pet owners may want to assess their pet's coat to determine how the liquid application could be applied.Gary

I used 1 bottle and It was like I used nothing at all. Mind you I walk my dog and when he comes in the house I would find 2 or 3 live ticks walking on him. So I figured ok maybe it didnt work or I didnt wait long enough. After about 10 days of this I applied another bottle and again nothing. He still kept coming in the house with ticks every time. So I'm not sure exactly what's going on but the package I received appeared to be authentic. All serial numbers matched and packages were sealed well. Found this by chance at the local store. Applicator type flea stuff isn't all that reliable. The eight month collar option is a no no after reading up on it and finding it can cause a dog to go into convulsions. This once a month soft chew though is great. Our dog didn't scratch once. No side effects. Great stuff. It's so good we can hardly find it on the shelves to refill that way so we have to order on-line.Peachn

I bought these chews for a couple years. For my two dogs and then another 3 dogs that belong to my daughters. The dogs love them and they work really really well. I would rattle the jar and they would all come running 1 did the trick for at least 3 or 4 weeks . Within a few hours the fleas seem to be better . You can re administer as needed and I only had to do that I think the first time when I bought them in the fleas were really bad . When Coronavirus came and we had to start social distancing and staying at home I decided to order something off of Amazon. Unfortunately what I ordered didn't work and my house is now infested in fleas they're in my bed and furniture and everywhere. 1 chew seems to do the trick for my pitbull German Shepherd cross 60 pound dogs I will be going back to these.Amy

I bought the advantus yesterday. My babies loved them. I paid $54.99 plus tax $4.54 bringing the grand total to $59.53. Now let's break it down $59.53 divided by 30 days of the month that's a $1.98 per day to protect your baby. I do agree it could have had a lot more stuff to help with the fleas & ticks. Now the reason I said it won't work for me, is because I have 21 babies so instead of buying 1 bottle a month I would be buying 3 1/2 bottles. Now that's serious money, just bathe in dawn dish soap. mist them with a flea and tick spray before they go out to potty your good to go. I gave three stars because I bought it yesterday. Recommended by our vet to combat the Highland ticks, as well as for fleas, this product is very effective. For the most part, ticks are put off before they bite and those that do latch on are quickly killed and drop off again. No fleas either. Have some difficulty getting through the dogs' dense undercoat to find enough skin to apply the liquid, but that is the same for all spot-on products. Only real drawback is that it shouldn't be used in households with a cat – fortunately we are between cats at the minute.Donna Y

Although I needed to get and pay for a prescription from my vet, having tried Advantix for my dog, and Irish Setter, before I knew just how effective it is but wanted to pay less for it than my vet charges. The cost of the prescription can be defrayed over the three orders that I can make on one prescription so I get a very effective treatment at a significantly reduced cost overall. Untreated my dog picks up ticks readily especially when in bracken, heather and general moorland environments, but Advantix provides tick effective repellence as well as treatment for fleas etc.Robert S

This works well. It is non greasy and doesn't have a funky smell like some other topical flea meds. The problem with topical is that sometimes they stop working . Therefore you switch to the other brand . But so far I have not had to switch. It definitely works well and recommend to many people.deb.n

I am hesitant to use these types of products compulsively for preventive measures. Fortunately, We’ve not been in an area where fleas are out of control outside, as we have had problems in the past with other pets. These types of topical medicines would only be effective for a maximum of 1 1/2 to 2 weeks at best. And then our previous dog, and coincidentally our cat also, developed tumors where these types of medicines were being applied. I can’t say for certain that they were the cause. But it’s very suspicious that it happened in both animals. The dog we noticed first. And maybe a year or so later our cat. They both lived to past 11 years. And our dog was also on meds for epilepsy. Only briefly because he would spit out the meds no matter how clever I thought I was in hiding them. So, since he refused to take them, I stopped trying to make him. His grand mal seizures were frequent and long lasting. But, he just got better at spitting out the pills, even if I shoved them down his throat. i have only had to use these topicals a few times in our current dogs short life, so far. And it seemed to work fine and for as long as it said it was supposed to work. And when she or we seem a bit more itchy, I apply it again, and wait until it’s “needed”, again- as opposed to routinely scheduled once every month. And in my opinion, it works better than capstar, which is meant as a short acting topical to immediately relieve a flea problem getting out of control. But for whatever reason, this works better for us, even though it might take a few days to really notice results. (I never really noticed immediate results with. Capstar. It helped make the problem not get any worse. But it didn’t solve the problem either.)shelly.c

I bought this one day on the recommendation of the pet store clerk. What I liked is that it was easy to apply, and it work quickly and efficiently , neither of my dogs had any type of negative side effects, there was no redness or scaliness or itchiness at the point of the application, and less than 36 hours all fleas were sufficiently gone. I did do the reapplication Nearly one week early. Only because it was in the thick of flea season and my neighborhood is filled with stray/feral kitty cats.fran.c

Overall satisfaction level: good. No bad reactions from my chihuahuas. I use a syringe to dispense the correct dose for each size dog so the large size dog package is economical and lasts a good while. It seems to be fast acting but loses potency after a couple of weeks. I seem to recall other products lasting longer, maybe a whole month. Not a big issue since these inside dogs could use a bath every other week any how.bbrb972

I pour these tubes into a tiny glass vial. Then I use a needle-less syringe to draw up a cat-sized dose depending on the cat's weight. I apply it to my cats. I save a lot of money this way. Advantage 2 for dogs has exactly the same ingredients as the flea medicine for cats. (Do NOT do this with other brands of dog treatment. Always check labels first… and learn how much your own cat needs before applying it.) I've used Advantage 2 for many, many years. It has never failed my cats. They simply do not get fleas. I've never had a flea in my house. I treated my neighbor's flea-bitten dog last month. The poor creature was crawling with flea. After Advantage 2, the fleas were gone the next day. I buy the Large dog size and cut the tops off and pour in a old medicine vial then I use a 3cc syringe to suck it up. Cats I put about 1/2 a cc which is 1/2 of 1 cc . It does does not take much and use about this much on my little dogs too. Larger dogs I use about 2cc and NEVER DO THEY HAVE FLEAS and it last way longer. My cat reacts to all other flea and tick brands besides this one. Her first falls out with other brands. Advantage does not do that and keeps her flea and tick free. She doesn’t mind when I apply this at all!claire.d

We had 4 cats that we had been treating faithfully with advantage. I love how simple it is to use, compared to the stuff we used to use years ago. Our cats were/are I will say very much over the 9lb … like double and then some. We had 2 older females and 2 younger males. Our females we recued from Humane Society and they have always been sickly cats. First we were told they had allergies to the food, then later to the FLEAS. Either way it was heartbreaking to see them suffer, over groom themselves, pull fur out, and one eventually lost half her weight. We did everything your supposed to do and still our poor sickly cat suffered so…now I don't blame the Advantage at all. I just was confused if it was working or if something else was causing her to react. I CERTAINLY DO RECOMMEND IT, as it is safe for everyone around them and of course for your cat. It is too bad it is so costly, when you have multiple pets that are large, but you must take care of your furry friends. PLEASE NOTE; Sadly for NO reasons found the cat I spoke of that was so sick, died suddenly at home through the night. She was 14, and it was a terrible find, but she didn't suffer….I handled it like a crazy Mom and had to call my oldest son to help. As a veterinary technician I've used about every flea control product under the sun. This one still works. While it isn't as good as Revolution it does treat all life cycles of fleas. Just make sure that if you have a heavy infestation you treat the environment as well. Fleas can stay hidden in your carpet for many months, even years. Flea control must be given year round unless you live in an area too hot for fleas to survive…Arizona for example. Really great product that can be purchased inexpensively. This definately killed all the fleas on my dog right away. I have a bichon poo and so he has long fluffy fur. This left his fur so soft. The soap itself is very watery and lots just goes down the drain. However, it did work up a good lather unlike what some reviews have said. Bad news is, it does not repel fleas from my experience. Fleas still jump on him and stay. So, I sprayed my yard and house. As well as get him an all natural flea collar repellent. I would much rather use this wash that a Capstar. It worked fast and did kill the fleas on him.M. A.

We purchased this shampoo, as our Rottweiler was very itchy at night. Prior to buying this, I asked how long would this shampoo work? The shampoo works immediately. Essentially it kills any live fleas on the dog, however, this shampoo is not made to continue fighting fleas days later. You need to invest in getting your dog on a flea treatment program to combat ongoing flea issues. As a first time user of this shampoo, I can see my dog is scratching less, and appears to be much more comfortable. I'll be using this shampoo going forward.Mommas_Rottie

This works! I was using an all natural shampoo but my poor puppy needed more help. Shes too young for a flea medication so I used this once a week and in between used the natural flea shampoo. Fleas fell off in sink. I gain a sense of satisfaction when I wash them down the drain. But you need to keep it lathered on pet for a few minutes at least before rinsing off. I have a large Maine coon and knew I could not use just any spray. I had tried cheap flea drops and they did nothing. My big guy, 20 pounds and 3 feet of pure muscle, was unaffected by the drops and continuing to become more and more miserable. ENTER SCENE: ADVANTAGE! My husband and I tried this as a last shot before shelling out the money for a vet groomer flea bath. Well, as we are spraying this all over the big guy, the fleas were jumping ship, becoming paralyzed, and doing everything possible to get away from this stuff! A disgusting amount of fleas were pulled from his fluffy self and a million fleas were dead on the floor. I recommend putting paper towels down on the floor before starting so the clean up is easy. Also, we used one full can on our big guy in that one application so STOCK UP! I'm telling you, the look he gave me after spraying him was one of gratitude and relief. He followed me around the house meowing at my feet and rubbing himself on my ankles. I love my big guy and he knows it. Advantage, you are the best. I'll be buying 3 more cans today.KacieCole

If spraying around the house or perimeter of your rugs you don’t need much. I sprayed the baseline of my Chihuahua (behind neck down to tail) and realized it was a bit much. It worked but not immediately. The purpose of my use was for flea eggs I spotted and some live ones on my dog as well. I recommend a flea bath first then the spray. It does have a strong smell. The can was gone in a single use. So again, reminder you don’t need to spray as much as you may think. It works!Taco2012

There were 2 months, when I moved to a new state and was unable to find this product locally (*and hadn't heard of 1800petmeds yet) when I used 2 other products – my dog had a serious skin sensitivity to one, and the other gave her diarrhea for almost the entire month. Only briefly because he would spit out the meds no matter how clever I thought I was in hiding them. So, since he refused to take them, I stopped trying to make him. His grand mal seizures were frequent and long lasting. Don't really know what changes was done to the formula . But Advantage 2 works no where near as good as it as the original formula . My cat(s) for years have always been an inside cat & used it for years with great success. I recently adopted a cat & started using Adtg.2. A week to a week & a half is about tops before you start to see your cat start scratching again. Not good especially for what they charge for the stuff. Another example of "don't fix it if it ain't broke". But I guess the all mighty dollar took care of that. Next time I take my cat to the vet I'll ask about other options. This works well. It is non greasy and doesn't have a funky smell like some other topical flea meds. The problem with topical is that sometimes they stop working . Therefore you switch to the other brand . But so far I have not had to switch. It definitely works well and recommend to many people.deb.n

The product itself is a must for our poochi friends! Winter months are just as bad as summer months. The treatment itself has various necessities inside that the dog will need to keep it safe. It’s not just for fleas, However can have ingredients such as heartworm which if the dog catches, it can be fatal. This works hand-in-hand with the worm tablet, which is another necessity. Flea treatment should be given every month, placed at the back of the dogs neck where is unable to reach. I will NEVER buy this crap again. I wanted a preventive treatment for my fur baby, so I purchased these… Bad decision!! I used one and still noticed her scratching so much so that i wondered if I had actually applied it correctly. I ended up putting another treatment on her and nothing! She’s itching, I’m itching and we are both feeling terrible. I will never ever make this mistake again, I purchased some Heartz a few months ago after realizing she had fess and noticed an immediate charge . Do not buy this!Yollie

I needed to use this product for some time to appreciate its abilities. My dog likes to spend time outside rolling around and doing dog things. This leads to her coming into the house, tracking dirt and the pesky fleas. We've done well to mitigate it in the past, but PetArmor helped in the process. Within a few days, we noticed that she would not be scratchy when coming back into the house, then we didn't have to treat her bedding as much. Very nice! This went on for a few weeks, and eventually, there were no signs of fleas or scratching! It's been a great summer, and we look forward to a flea-free fall. In the past, I have given my dog oral medication to prevent flea and ticks. It worked well but I was never comfortable with the fact that he had to ingest the medicine. I decided we’d use a topical solution for this summer and this is working great so far. The application was easy and the the applicator worked well. I’ve had to apply a different brand on foster puppies in the past and sometimes, the liquid would just all flow right out during the first contact, leaving no medicine for the rest of the dog’s back. It wasn’t the case with PetArmor. I had good control to dispense the product with their applicator. My dog had no discomfort whatsoever on the application sites. The product didn’t leave his coat all oily or smelly. I love that you can scan a QR code in the box and the brand will send a text 30 days later as a reminder for when the next dose is due. Their formula contains Fipronil and (S)-methoprene like most expensive well-known brands but at a more affordable cost. Finally something that works consistently. After trying probably 10-15 brands of flea and tick stuff for my Dogs this is the company I come back to. Ive tried expensive stuff, Ive tried dirt cheap stuff. This works and works FAST. I actually have to put my dogs out if they have fleas on them at all. Within 30 minutes they are jumping off to get away and die. Weve had issues with super fleas here in northeast USA where the only thing Ive found to work is old fashion dawn dish soap and salt.Ive literally spread salt on all my floors so it looks like snow and left it sit over night then vacuum it up and then mop with dawn dish soap, everyday for over a week straight. This stuff not only took care of the fleas on the dogs and cats but the ones in the house would jump on the dogs would die to. Havent had an issue since.Corvet08
