Advantage Dog Flea Treatment For Sale (2024 Update)

This definately killed all the fleas on my dog right away. I have a bichon poo and so he has long fluffy fur. This left his fur so soft. The soap itself is very watery and lots just goes down the drain. However, it did work up a good lather unlike what some reviews have said. Bad news is, it does not repel fleas from my experience. Fleas still jump on him and stay. So, I sprayed my yard and house. As well as get him an all natural flea collar repellent. I would much rather use this wash that a Capstar. It worked fast and did kill the fleas on him.M. A.

We purchased this shampoo, as our Rottweiler was very itchy at night. Prior to buying this, I asked how long would this shampoo work? The shampoo works immediately. Essentially it kills any live fleas on the dog, however, this shampoo is not made to continue fighting fleas days later. You need to invest in getting your dog on a flea treatment program to combat ongoing flea issues. As a first time user of this shampoo, I can see my dog is scratching less, and appears to be much more comfortable. I'll be using this shampoo going forward.Mommas_Rottie

This works! I was using an all natural shampoo but my poor puppy needed more help. Shes too young for a flea medication so I used this once a week and in between used the natural flea shampoo. Fleas fell off in sink. I gain a sense of satisfaction when I wash them down the drain. But you need to keep it lathered on pet for a few minutes at least before rinsing off. I have a large Maine coon and knew I could not use just any spray. I had tried cheap flea drops and they did nothing. My big guy, 20 pounds and 3 feet of pure muscle, was unaffected by the drops and continuing to become more and more miserable. ENTER SCENE: ADVANTAGE! My husband and I tried this as a last shot before shelling out the money for a vet groomer flea bath. Well, as we are spraying this all over the big guy, the fleas were jumping ship, becoming paralyzed, and doing everything possible to get away from this stuff! A disgusting amount of fleas were pulled from his fluffy self and a million fleas were dead on the floor. I recommend putting paper towels down on the floor before starting so the clean up is easy. Also, we used one full can on our big guy in that one application so STOCK UP! I'm telling you, the look he gave me after spraying him was one of gratitude and relief. I've tried literally everything on my dog and he still had fleas! I bought this product thinking more money wasted,but I went to work spraying my dog and seen 2 fleas and I sprayed them and boom dead! I highly recommend this product! My dog is finally not itching and biting! Happy customer!Amysuek

Im been an Advantage fan for a good 15 years. It is the only 100% effective flea treatment period. Believe me I've tried them all. Had fleas so bad that when it rained and you walked in my yard your legs would get covered. After using the Advantage Drops they were just gone. I mean gone. Its worked so well after years I only have to use it when my nieces dog visits. This time I decided to try this spray abd so far so good. He was in bad shape when he got to my house. Chewing himself up. I suspect he not only had fleas but also had dog lice. Only been a couple of weeks and he's looking much better. I included pictures to show his improvement. This spray is the only medication I used to treat him. I do not use flea shampoos because they do not work at all. Plus there is no need for it if you use Advantage products.AugieDoggie

This works well. It is non greasy and doesn't have a funky smell like some other topical flea meds. The problem with topical is that sometimes they stop working . Therefore you switch to the other brand . But so far I have not had to switch. It definitely works well and recommend to many people.deb.n

Fortunately, We’ve not been in an area where fleas are out of control outside, as we have had problems in the past with other pets. These types of topical medicines would only be effective for a maximum of 1 1/2 to 2 weeks at best. And then our previous dog, and coincidentally our cat also, developed tumors where these types of medicines were being applied. I can’t say for certain that they were the cause. But it’s very suspicious that it happened in both animals. The dog we noticed first. And maybe a year or so later our cat. They both lived to past 11 years. And our dog was also on meds for epilepsy. Only briefly because he would spit out the meds no matter how clever I thought I was in hiding them. So, since he refused to take them, I stopped trying to make him. His grand mal seizures were frequent and long lasting. But, he just got better at spitting out the pills, even if I shoved them down his throat. i have only had to use these topicals a few times in our current dogs short life, so far. And it seemed to work fine and for as long as it said it was supposed to work. And when she or we seem a bit more itchy, I apply it again, and wait until it’s “needed”, again- as opposed to routinely scheduled once every month. And in my opinion, it works better than capstar, which is meant as a short acting topical to immediately relieve a flea problem getting out of control. I bought this one day on the recommendation of the pet store clerk. What I liked is that it was easy to apply, and it work quickly and efficiently , neither of my dogs had any type of negative side effects, there was no redness or scaliness or itchiness at the point of the application, and less than 36 hours all fleas were sufficiently gone. I did do the reapplication Nearly one week early. Only because it was in the thick of flea season and my neighborhood is filled with stray/feral kitty cats.fran.c

It's affordable and better than similarly priced other topical products. I prefer an oral product but not all will eat it, so I use this for those animals. Lasts about 2 weeks only. Gets rid of about 80% of the fleas.randi s

I was on frontline for years but when I thought I saw a couple fleas on my dogs in September 2020, I decided to make a switch to Advantage II for my cats and Advantix II for my dogs— BIGGEST mistake of my life (seriously, like over any horrible exes). I have $515.97 in receipts I submitted to the company (which was as horrible as the experience, which I will get to) and spent an additional $70 in store (in which I cannot find the receipt) since September 2020 to December. I followed every tip on the website and insert and my animals were still covered. I applied perfectly. I applied initially weekly, vacuum daily, steam cleaned, wash bedding constantly, etc. I don’t even have carpet but on the stairs and have treated the stairs and couches with Predcor. I even bought those flea traps with the sticky bottoms. I am not including any of this in that total I spent– that was all on the flea medications themselves for the 6 animals. I have saved some, not all, of the vials so on 11/13 I called Elanco. They denied my request for any type of refund. They questioned my exact dosage dates and frequency more than a doctor wants to know about your menstrual cycles but I took my best guesses, for all 6 animals although I did know what schedule they were on but didn't have it in front of me. Then they said that the product was probably not working because I bathed my dogs initially at the beginning 48 hours before application?? Their website TELLS you to bathe them before application (see 2nd screenshot posted)! I stopped bathing them after the 2nd application as it wasn't working and the dogs were miserable and only tried 2 cats (and really only 1 successfully because we all know how that goes). They then told me that I didn't give the product long enough?? Their website states (see 3rd screenshot) and is the same for Advantage II "K9 Advantix® II kills fleas within 12 hours. New fleas that jump on the dog from the surroundings, such as grass, carpet and pet bedding, are killed within 2 hours with protection against further infestation for at least 4 weeks." I tried their products, $600 worth on 6 animals, as scheduled, no missed doses for 4 months. I can’t blame it on just one animal or one batch—it didn’t work on 6, or one batch! I am very upset. Not only have I wasted money on these but I have bought corresponding products, sprays for the beddings, flea traps, etc. I FINALLY called Terminex and had to spend 12 hours clearing out under my beds, closets, getting everything off my floors, moving furniture etc. (time I will never get back) and getting my children and pets out of the house and went back to the brand that works: FRONTLINE! NO MORE FLEAS– what I should have done in the first place. I am so upset not by the fact that the product didn't work but by the way the company handled it, dodging any responsibility from blaming it on the baths they recommend to the length of time I gave it when they could have just refunded me and had someone that isn't going to not only post this review every place I bought it (not just here) but every other place that allows a review to include social media.Intelhottie

We bought Advantix liquid application anti-flea and tick treatment because it is effective, was less expensive and did not require a prescription. We had easily and successfully used liquid Advantix for years with our Plott hound mix. We now have a beagle. Beagle hair is different; it's thick, coarse, oily, kind of water proof and difficult to part in order to properly apply the liquid to the skin. Advantix is a very good product, but pet owners may want to assess their pet's coat to determine how the liquid application could be applied.Gary

My dog was getting ticks so I purchased this. I have used it in the past with great success when it had the Bayer logo on it . The one I received has the Elanco brand logo on it. I used 1 bottle and It was like I used nothing at all. Mind you I walk my dog and when he comes in the house I would find 2 or 3 live ticks walking on him. So I figured ok maybe it didnt work or I didnt wait long enough. After about 10 days of this I applied another bottle and again nothing. He still kept coming in the house with ticks every time. So I'm not sure exactly what's going on but the package I received appeared to be authentic. All serial numbers matched and packages were sealed well. I've sued this for years on our tiny poodles and it works great. They never get fleas, never get sicks from use. The only draw back it the dog smells for about 24 hours. You might not want to pet them agressively during that time.Oregon2017

Not as expected. I have 3 dogs that weigh between 4 to 7 pounds. Followed instructions and had to reapply after 2 weeks as mentioned. I continued picking off old and new fleas until the next dose was due. And it's the same thing. Picking fleas all the time. And this is the second 6 count box (expensive!) I have been using this product on my dog since I adopted her at 4 mos. There were 2 months, when I moved to a new state and was unable to find this product locally (*and hadn't heard of 1800petmeds yet) when I used 2 other products – my dog had a serious skin sensitivity to one, and the other gave her diarrhea for almost the entire month. I absolutely loved this for my fur babies! What I DID NOT love was that like this past year, flea/tick season was so weird! Twice I found LIVE TICKS on me, after loving up on my baby boy, Lizard. (Male black n white cat) He is an indoor/outdoor baby, but I haven't ever had a problem like this until now. Worth mentioning, my female brindle colored cat also had irritation from this year's applications. She has to have prednisone each day, along with a topical treatment, otherwise she's in agony from inflammation and itching! I am NOT stating that it was the fault of this brand. I will NEVER buy this crap again. I wanted a preventive treatment for my fur baby, so I purchased these… Bad decision!! I used one and still noticed her scratching so much so that i wondered if I had actually applied it correctly. I ended up putting another treatment on her and nothing! I use advantage on my dogs and cats every month. In a state where fleas are inevitable because of the heat, this product has been my saving grace. When you are treating your animal for the first time it's important to read the directions. An infestation should be treated 2 weeks later, then monthly after. It's also important to treat your home and/or yard to help prevent eggs that have already been laid from hatching. Furthermore, the weight of your animal should be known to use the correct amount. Too little will not give the correct protection. Lastly, skipping monthly treatments will be vital to constant protection so it's extremely important to treat monthly. I will also add that I have 3 dogs and 9 cats that live flea free because of this product. Happy animals, happy life.Mizangel07

My cat reacts to all other flea and tick brands besides this one. Her first falls out with other brands. Advantage does not do that and keeps her flea and tick free. She doesn’t mind when I apply this at all!claire.d

We had 4 cats that we had been treating faithfully with advantage. I love how simple it is to use, compared to the stuff we used to use years ago. Our cats were/are I will say very much over the 9lb … like double and then some. We had 2 older females and 2 younger males. Our females we recued from Humane Society and they have always been sickly cats. First we were told they had allergies to the food, then later to the FLEAS. Either way it was heartbreaking to see them suffer, over groom themselves, pull fur out, and one eventually lost half her weight. We did everything your supposed to do and still our poor sickly cat suffered so…now I don't blame the Advantage at all. I just was confused if it was working or if something else was causing her to react. I CERTAINLY DO RECOMMEND IT, as it is safe for everyone around them and of course for your cat. It is too bad it is so costly, when you have multiple pets that are large, but you must take care of your furry friends. As a veterinary technician I've used about every flea control product under the sun. This one still works. While it isn't as good as Revolution it does treat all life cycles of fleas. Just make sure that if you have a heavy infestation you treat the environment as well. Fleas can stay hidden in your carpet for many months, even years. Flea control must be given year round unless you live in an area too hot for fleas to survive…Arizona for example. Really great product that can be purchased inexpensively. Not sure what all the people leaving 5 stars are talking about. I purchased this item because it had the highest rating in reviews… and it’s pricey so I figured it would work, I was wrong. This thing is about $35 a bottle so it ain’t cheap to spray this thing. I sprayed it all over the yard just like the instructions say. Came back out the following day and sure enough there were fleas all over my feet and lower legs, so I once more sprayed. Third day same thing as the second day, except I didn’t spray anymore because what’s the point in wasting another $35 and the time it takes to spray this thing. I would just recommend using another brand or item instead of this one.TheJuan

I tried improvement store outdoor bug sprays 4times this spring, but wild birds & squirrels just kept bringing them back in or it didn't work. I used Advantage Yard and Premise Spray once on my backyard, vacuumed my house, washed their bedding & dipped my dogs & I completely stopped my flea infestation !! 2016-17 wasn't cold long enough to kill all the bugs, fleas & ticks(ugh). Absolutely useless product. I am aware this is only useful for 24 hours. My dog enjoyed eating it as a treat but other than that it's useless! It did absolutely nothing in 24 hours if anything it seemed like it made it worse! All it seemed to do was irritate the fleas and make them bite more! Also another thing to note after taking this my dogs were extremely extremely thirsty like I've never seen before! My poor boy. The fleas love him. I can give him a flea bath every day and he's still infested. After trying daily baths, over the counter remides treating my yard and topical treatments, nothing worked so I decided to try a oral treatment. I swear by this. After one treatment I would find fleas on my bed (he jumps up on my bed when I'm not looking because I didn't want to share his unwanted friends) my blanket was covered…. of dead or dying fleas. 1 TREATMENT people. I wanted this to work so bad because my dog is highly allergic to fleas and shreds himself up even when he has the topical flea prevention. Even if a dog around him has fleas he breaks out (our neighbor dog has fleas so my poor pup get around them). I saw this and wanted to try to give him some relief to my itchy pooch. The first day, I saw 3 fleas on my dog and purposefully left them on there to see if it worked. I came back in an hour and they were still there. I figured since it says up to 4 hrs I would wait. Later in the day I checked him, fleas still there. So I thought may it took some time for his body to get accustomed to it. The next day same story, he went outside in the morning I checked him saw he has some fleas, gave him a pill checked him about an hour and a half later, fleas are still having a party. Let it set for the rest of the afternoon and checked him before dinner, still the fleas are alive and kicking. 3rd day same story. At this point I can see it isn’t working and I wasted the $25 it costs for it. At least I didn’t spend the $50 for the month. Look at the reviews and notice several of us back to back have rated it the same so obviously something is wrong here. Avoid and save your money and spend it on the more expensive one!Kate

Found this by chance at the local store. Applicator type flea stuff isn't all that reliable. The eight month collar option is a no no after reading up on it and finding it can cause a dog to go into convulsions. This once a month soft chew though is great. Our dog didn't scratch once. No side effects. Great stuff. It's so good we can hardly find it on the shelves to refill that way so we have to order on-line.Peachn

I bought these chews for a couple years. For my two dogs and then another 3 dogs that belong to my daughters. The dogs love them and they work really really well. I would rattle the jar and they would all come running 1 did the trick for at least 3 or 4 weeks . Within a few hours the fleas seem to be better . You can re administer as needed and I only had to do that I think the first time when I bought them in the fleas were really bad . When Coronavirus came and we had to start social distancing and staying at home I decided to order something off of Amazon. Unfortunately what I ordered didn't work and my house is now infested in fleas they're in my bed and furniture and everywhere. 1 chew seems to do the trick for my pitbull German Shepherd cross 60 pound dogs I will be going back to these.Amy

I bought the advantus yesterday. My babies loved them. I paid $54.99 plus tax $4.54 bringing the grand total to $59.53. Now let's break it down $59.53 divided by 30 days of the month that's a $1.98 per day to protect your baby. I do agree it could have had a lot more stuff to help with the fleas & ticks. Now the reason I said it won't work for me, is because I have 21 babies so instead of buying 1 bottle a month I would be buying 3 1/2 bottles. Now that's serious money, just bathe in dawn dish soap. mist them with a flea and tick spray before they go out to potty your good to go. I gave three stars because I bought it yesterday. I've been using this for 10+ years, since when you had to have it prescribed/through your vets. Glad when it was 'downgraded' so you no longer needed to see your vet & pay higher prices for it, especially if like me.. you have 'Acquired' a few cats.. like 6, + the stray/feral's i care for. Always found much more much more Effective & continuously longer lasting than the other leading brand frontline. Fleas were back in 3 to 4 days with that. With Advantage.. it starts killing them almost immediately & over 24 hours, keeps working and the cats Flea free for 3 to 5 weeks. Results speak for themselves.. Never had or hardly seen a flea or the tell tale signs.. for over 10 years.. Works! Tip: if your cat does not like staying still for a few minutes while you part their fur. Get some cordless pet hair trimmers & crop a little small section/spot of fur at base of skull/neck area and apply .Beau Bengal

After months and months of continuously attempting to get rid of fleas in the home, I finally decided to try a more expensive flea treatment for the cats (indoor cats, have always been indoor cats, previous home occupants had pets which is where the fleas came from!) this Advantage started to work straight away! You could see the little buggers surfacing to the top of the cats coat and you could tell they were dying as they were slowing down. 3 weeks later and cats are flea free! Definitely use a spot on treatment at the same time as a home treatment to ensure no fleas jump back on the cats. Definitely recommend this product compared to the cheaper options I tried such as Bephar, Bob Martin & Frontline. Avoid those if you don't want to spend money every 2 weeks. I'll be treating my cats again with this Advantage in a week's time when it has been 4 weeks since their first treatment to keep on top of the situation.Miranda

I bought these because I needed decent but reasonably priced flea treatment for my 7 8 week old kittens.. The delivery was abit slower than i anticipated and the boxes were a bit battered but not so badly that the vials were damaged. I put this on the kittens as directed and within a few minutes tgey were all scratching, (possibly due to the effect that it had on any fleas they had) but other than that they all just acted normally. It has now been over 36 hours since they were treated with it and they are all still happy and healthy. I have heard some horror stories about cats being burned by spot on treatments but i have never found this to be the case with any of my cats or kittensDeborah

I am hesitant to use these types of products compulsively for preventive measures. Fortunately, We’ve not been in an area where fleas are out of control outside, as we have had problems in the past with other pets. These types of topical medicines would only be effective for a maximum of 1 1/2 to 2 weeks at best. And then our previous dog, and coincidentally our cat also, developed tumors where these types of medicines were being applied. I can’t say for certain that they were the cause. But it’s very suspicious that it happened in both animals. The dog we noticed first. And maybe a year or so later our cat. They both lived to past 11 years. And our dog was also on meds for epilepsy. Only briefly because he would spit out the meds no matter how clever I thought I was in hiding them. So, since he refused to take them, I stopped trying to make him. His grand mal seizures were frequent and long lasting. But, he just got better at spitting out the pills, even if I shoved them down his throat. i have only had to use these topicals a few times in our current dogs short life, so far. And it seemed to work fine and for as long as it said it was supposed to work. And when she or we seem a bit more itchy, I apply it again, and wait until it’s “needed”, again- as opposed to routinely scheduled once every month. And in my opinion, it works better than capstar, which is meant as a short acting topical to immediately relieve a flea problem getting out of control. But for whatever reason, this works better for us, even though it might take a few days to really notice results. (I never really noticed immediate results with. Capstar. It helped make the problem not get any worse. But it didn’t solve the problem either.)shelly.c

I absolutely loved this for my fur babies! What I DID NOT love was that like this past year, flea/tick season was so weird! Twice I found LIVE TICKS on me, after loving up on my baby boy, Lizard. (Male black n white cat) He is an indoor/outdoor baby, but I haven't ever had a problem like this until now. Worth mentioning, my female brindle colored cat also had irritation from this year's applications. She has to have prednisone each day, along with a topical treatment, otherwise she's in agony from inflammation and itching! I am NOT stating that it was the fault of this brand. I have no proof of that. I just wanted to make others aware that these things happened after the dosing though.pamela.g

I was on frontline for years but when I thought I saw a couple fleas on my dogs in September 2020, I decided to make a switch to Advantage II for my cats and Advantix II for my dogs— BIGGEST mistake of my life (seriously, like over any horrible exes). I have $515.97 in receipts I submitted to the company (which was as horrible as the experience, which I will get to) and spent an additional $70 in store (in which I cannot find the receipt) since September 2020 to December. I followed every tip on the website and insert and my animals were still covered. I applied perfectly. I applied initially weekly, vacuum daily, steam cleaned, wash bedding constantly, etc. I don’t even have carpet but on the stairs and have treated the stairs and couches with Predcor. I even bought those flea traps with the sticky bottoms. I am not including any of this in that total I spent– that was all on the flea medications themselves for the 6 animals. I have saved some, not all, of the vials so on 11/13 I called Elanco. They denied my request for any type of refund. They questioned my exact dosage dates and frequency more than a doctor wants to know about your menstrual cycles but I took my best guesses, for all 6 animals although I did know what schedule they were on but didn't have it in front of me. Then they said that the product was probably not working because I bathed my dogs initially at the beginning 48 hours before application?? Their website TELLS you to bathe them before application (see 2nd screenshot posted)! I stopped bathing them after the 2nd application as it wasn't working and the dogs were miserable and only tried 2 cats (and really only 1 successfully because we all know how that goes). They then told me that I didn't give the product long enough?? Their website states (see 3rd screenshot) and is the same for Advantage II "K9 Advantix® II kills fleas within 12 hours. New fleas that jump on the dog from the surroundings, such as grass, carpet and pet bedding, are killed within 2 hours with protection against further infestation for at least 4 weeks." I tried their products, $600 worth on 6 animals, as scheduled, no missed doses for 4 months. I can’t blame it on just one animal or one batch—it didn’t work on 6, or one batch! I am very upset. Not only have I wasted money on these but I have bought corresponding products, sprays for the beddings, flea traps, etc. I FINALLY called Terminex and had to spend 12 hours clearing out under my beds, closets, getting everything off my floors, moving furniture etc. (time I will never get back) and getting my children and pets out of the house and went back to the brand that works: FRONTLINE! NO MORE FLEAS– what I should have done in the first place. I am so upset not by the fact that the product didn't work but by the way the company handled it, dodging any responsibility from blaming it on the baths they recommend to the length of time I gave it when they could have just refunded me and had someone that isn't going to not only post this review every place I bought it (not just here) but every other place that allows a review to include social media.Intelhottie

We bought Advantix liquid application anti-flea and tick treatment because it is effective, was less expensive and did not require a prescription. We had easily and successfully used liquid Advantix for years with our Plott hound mix. We now have a beagle. Beagle hair is different; it's thick, coarse, oily, kind of water proof and difficult to part in order to properly apply the liquid to the skin. Advantix is a very good product, but pet owners may want to assess their pet's coat to determine how the liquid application could be applied.Gary

My dog was getting ticks so I purchased this. I have used it in the past with great success when it had the Bayer logo on it . The one I received has the Elanco brand logo on it. I used 1 bottle and It was like I used nothing at all. Mind you I walk my dog and when he comes in the house I would find 2 or 3 live ticks walking on him. So I figured ok maybe it didnt work or I didnt wait long enough. After about 10 days of this I applied another bottle and again nothing. He still kept coming in the house with ticks every time. So I'm not sure exactly what's going on but the package I received appeared to be authentic. All serial numbers matched and packages were sealed well. Never had this happen before but definitely going back to Frontline Plus.kschoern

I use advantage on my dogs and cats every month. In a state where fleas are inevitable because of the heat, this product has been my saving grace. When you are treating your animal for the first time it's important to read the directions. An infestation should be treated 2 weeks later, then monthly after. It's also important to treat your home and/or yard to help prevent eggs that have already been laid from hatching. Furthermore, the weight of your animal should be known to use the correct amount. Too little will not give the correct protection. Lastly, skipping monthly treatments will be vital to constant protection so it's extremely important to treat monthly. I will also add that I have 3 dogs and 9 cats that live flea free because of this product. Happy animals, happy life.Mizangel07
