I am hesitant to use these types of products compulsively for preventive measures. And in my opinion, it works better than capstar, which is meant as a short acting topical to immediately relieve a flea problem getting out of control. What I liked is that it was easy to apply, and it work quickly and efficiently , neither of my dogs had any type of negative side effects, there was no redness or scaliness or itchiness at the point of the application, and less than 36 hours all fleas were sufficiently gone. I was on frontline for years but when I thought I saw a couple fleas on my dogs in September 2020, I decided to make a switch to Advantage II for my cats and Advantix II for my dogs— BIGGEST mistake of my life (seriously, like over any horrible exes). I have $515.97 in receipts I submitted to the company (which was as horrible as the experience, which I will get to) and spent an additional $70 in store (in which I cannot find the receipt) since September 2020 to December. I followed every tip on the website and insert and my animals were still covered. I applied perfectly. I applied initially weekly, vacuum daily, steam cleaned, wash bedding constantly, etc. I don’t even have carpet but on the stairs and have treated the stairs and couches with Predcor. I even bought those flea traps with the sticky bottoms. I am not including any of this in that total I spent– that was all on the flea medications themselves for the 6 animals. I have saved some, not all, of the vials so on 11/13 I called Elanco. They denied my request for any type of refund. They questioned my exact dosage dates and frequency more than a doctor wants to know about your menstrual cycles but I took my best guesses, for all 6 animals although I did know what schedule they were on but didn't have it in front of me. Then they said that the product was probably not working because I bathed my dogs initially at the beginning 48 hours before application?? Their website TELLS you to bathe them before application (see 2nd screenshot posted)! I stopped bathing them after the 2nd application as it wasn't working and the dogs were miserable and only tried 2 cats (and really only 1 successfully because we all know how that goes). They then told me that I didn't give the product long enough?? Their website states (see 3rd screenshot) and is the same for Advantage II "K9 Advantix® II kills fleas within 12 hours. New fleas that jump on the dog from the surroundings, such as grass, carpet and pet bedding, are killed within 2 hours with protection against further infestation for at least 4 weeks." I tried their products, $600 worth on 6 animals, as scheduled, no missed doses for 4 months. I can’t blame it on just one animal or one batch—it didn’t work on 6, or one batch! I am very upset. Not only have I wasted money on these but I have bought corresponding products, sprays for the beddings, flea traps, etc. I FINALLY called Terminex and had to spend 12 hours clearing out under my beds, closets, getting everything off my floors, moving furniture etc. (time I will never get back) and getting my children and pets out of the house and went back to the brand that works: FRONTLINE! NO MORE FLEAS– what I should have done in the first place. We bought Advantix liquid application anti-flea and tick treatment because it is effective, was less expensive and did not require a prescription. We had easily and successfully used liquid Advantix for years with our Plott hound mix. We now have a beagle. Beagle hair is different; it's thick, coarse, oily, kind of water proof and difficult to part in order to properly apply the liquid to the skin. Advantix is a very good product, but pet owners may want to assess their pet's coat to determine how the liquid application could be applied.Gary

I used 1 bottle and It was like I used nothing at all. Mind you I walk my dog and when he comes in the house I would find 2 or 3 live ticks walking on him. So I figured ok maybe it didnt work or I didnt wait long enough. After about 10 days of this I applied another bottle and again nothing. He still kept coming in the house with ticks every time. So I'm not sure exactly what's going on but the package I received appeared to be authentic. All serial numbers matched and packages were sealed well. Don't really know what changes was done to the formula . But Advantage 2 works no where near as good as it as the original formula . My cat(s) for years have always been an inside cat & used it for years with great success. I recently adopted a cat & started using Adtg.2. A week to a week & a half is about tops before you start to see your cat start scratching again. Not good especially for what they charge for the stuff. Another example of "don't fix it if it ain't broke". But I guess the all mighty dollar took care of that. Next time I take my cat to the vet I'll ask about other options. It's affordable and better than similarly priced other topical products. I prefer an oral product but not all will eat it, so I use this for those animals. Lasts about 2 weeks only. Gets rid of about 80% of the fleas.randi s

I have been using this product on my dog since I adopted her at 4 mos. There were 2 months, when I moved to a new state and was unable to find this product locally (*and hadn't heard of 1800petmeds yet) when I used 2 other products – my dog had a serious skin sensitivity to one, and the other gave her diarrhea for almost the entire month. This definately killed all the fleas on my dog right away. I have a bichon poo and so he has long fluffy fur. This left his fur so soft. The soap itself is very watery and lots just goes down the drain. However, it did work up a good lather unlike what some reviews have said. Bad news is, it does not repel fleas from my experience. Fleas still jump on him and stay. So, I sprayed my yard and house. As well as get him an all natural flea collar repellent. I would much rather use this wash that a Capstar. It worked fast and did kill the fleas on him.M. A.

We purchased this shampoo, as our Rottweiler was very itchy at night. Prior to buying this, I asked how long would this shampoo work? The shampoo works immediately. Essentially it kills any live fleas on the dog, however, this shampoo is not made to continue fighting fleas days later. You need to invest in getting your dog on a flea treatment program to combat ongoing flea issues. This works! I was using an all natural shampoo but my poor puppy needed more help. Shes too young for a flea medication so I used this once a week and in between used the natural flea shampoo. Fleas fell off in sink. I gain a sense of satisfaction when I wash them down the drain. But you need to keep it lathered on pet for a few minutes at least before rinsing off. I have a large Maine coon and knew I could not use just any spray. I had tried cheap flea drops and they did nothing. My big guy, 20 pounds and 3 feet of pure muscle, was unaffected by the drops and continuing to become more and more miserable. ENTER SCENE: ADVANTAGE! My husband and I tried this as a last shot before shelling out the money for a vet groomer flea bath. Well, as we are spraying this all over the big guy, the fleas were jumping ship, becoming paralyzed, and doing everything possible to get away from this stuff! A disgusting amount of fleas were pulled from his fluffy self and a million fleas were dead on the floor. I recommend putting paper towels down on the floor before starting so the clean up is easy. Also, we used one full can on our big guy in that one application so STOCK UP! I'm telling you, the look he gave me after spraying him was one of gratitude and relief. I just received this today and wow soon I apply and start working it to the skin I watched fleas die. It works amazing. Smells like strong alcohol but works great. Sprayed my cat and worked to the skin with fingers then towel dried and instant results and relief for my catRobert

Found this by chance at the local store. Applicator type flea stuff isn't all that reliable. The eight month collar option is a no no after reading up on it and finding it can cause a dog to go into convulsions. This once a month soft chew though is great. Our dog didn't scratch once. No side effects. Great stuff. It's so good we can hardly find it on the shelves to refill that way so we have to order on-line.Peachn

I bought these chews for a couple years. For my two dogs and then another 3 dogs that belong to my daughters. The dogs love them and they work really really well. I would rattle the jar and they would all come running 1 did the trick for at least 3 or 4 weeks . Within a few hours the fleas seem to be better . You can re administer as needed and I only had to do that I think the first time when I bought them in the fleas were really bad . When Coronavirus came and we had to start social distancing and staying at home I decided to order something off of Amazon. Unfortunately what I ordered didn't work and my house is now infested in fleas they're in my bed and furniture and everywhere. 1 chew seems to do the trick for my pitbull German Shepherd cross 60 pound dogs I will be going back to these.Amy

I bought the advantus yesterday. My babies loved them. I paid $54.99 plus tax $4.54 bringing the grand total to $59.53. Now let's break it down $59.53 divided by 30 days of the month that's a $1.98 per day to protect your baby. I do agree it could have had a lot more stuff to help with the fleas & ticks. Now the reason I said it won't work for me, is because I have 21 babies so instead of buying 1 bottle a month I would be buying 3 1/2 bottles. Now that's serious money, just bathe in dawn dish soap. mist them with a flea and tick spray before they go out to potty your good to go. I gave three stars because I bought it yesterday. If spraying around the house or perimeter of your rugs you don’t need much. I sprayed the baseline of my Chihuahua (behind neck down to tail) and realized it was a bit much. I've tried literally everything on my dog and he still had fleas! I bought this product thinking more money wasted,but I went to work spraying my dog and seen 2 fleas and I sprayed them and boom dead! I highly recommend this product! My dog is finally not itching and biting! Happy customer!Amysuek

Im been an Advantage fan for a good 15 years. It is the only 100% effective flea treatment period. Believe me I've tried them all. Had fleas so bad that when it rained and you walked in my yard your legs would get covered. After using the Advantage Drops they were just gone. I mean gone. Its worked so well after years I only have to use it when my nieces dog visits. This time I decided to try this spray abd so far so good. He was in bad shape when he got to my house. Chewing himself up. I suspect he not only had fleas but also had dog lice. Only been a couple of weeks and he's looking much better. I included pictures to show his improvement. This spray is the only medication I used to treat him. I do not use flea shampoos because they do not work at all. Plus there is no need for it if you use Advantage products.AugieDoggie

I've been using this for 10+ years, since when you had to have it prescribed/through your vets. Glad when it was 'downgraded' so you no longer needed to see your vet & pay higher prices for it, especially if like me.. you have 'Acquired' a few cats.. like 6, + the stray/feral's i care for. Always found much more much more Effective & continuously longer lasting than the other leading brand frontline. Fleas were back in 3 to 4 days with that. With Advantage.. it starts killing them almost immediately & over 24 hours, keeps working and the cats Flea free for 3 to 5 weeks. Results speak for themselves.. Never had or hardly seen a flea or the tell tale signs.. for over 10 years.. Works! Tip: if your cat does not like staying still for a few minutes while you part their fur. After months and months of continuously attempting to get rid of fleas in the home, I finally decided to try a more expensive flea treatment for the cats (indoor cats, have always been indoor cats, previous home occupants had pets which is where the fleas came from!) this Advantage started to work straight away! You could see the little buggers surfacing to the top of the cats coat and you could tell they were dying as they were slowing down. 3 weeks later and cats are flea free! Definitely use a spot on treatment at the same time as a home treatment to ensure no fleas jump back on the cats. Definitely recommend this product compared to the cheaper options I tried such as Bephar, Bob Martin & Frontline. Avoid those if you don't want to spend money every 2 weeks. I'll be treating my cats again with this Advantage in a week's time when it has been 4 weeks since their first treatment to keep on top of the situation.Miranda

I bought these because I needed decent but reasonably priced flea treatment for my 7 8 week old kittens.. The delivery was abit slower than i anticipated and the boxes were a bit battered but not so badly that the vials were damaged. I put this on the kittens as directed and within a few minutes tgey were all scratching, (possibly due to the effect that it had on any fleas they had) but other than that they all just acted normally. It has now been over 36 hours since they were treated with it and they are all still happy and healthy. I have heard some horror stories about cats being burned by spot on treatments but i have never found this to be the case with any of my cats or kittensDeborah

I've sued this for years on our tiny poodles and it works great. They never get fleas, never get sicks from use. The only draw back it the dog smells for about 24 hours. You might not want to pet them agressively during that time.Oregon2017

Not as expected. I have 3 dogs that weigh between 4 to 7 pounds. Followed instructions and had to reapply after 2 weeks as mentioned. I continued picking off old and new fleas until the next dose was due. And it's the same thing. Picking fleas all the time. And this is the second 6 count box (expensive!) I checked the rest of her body, and she had zero signs of anymore fleas, flea poop, etc. I use to work in a pet grooming salon, so I know how to thoroughly check for fleas. I have an indoor cat. I decided to be on the safe side and pick up some Advantage II for flea prevention. I remembered Advantage always worked better (over Frontline) for my clients back in my grooming salon days. Instructions were clear. Application was easy. Leaves a greasy mark, but don't worry that greasy residue goes away after 24 hours. So far no fleas on my cat! Whether because it really was one single flea that somehow got brought into the house or the Advantage prevented an infestation, I don't know. Regardless, better safe than sorry. Advantage is all I did for my cat (no bath, etc.), as I didn't feel other steps were necessary since she didn't have an infestation. Please note that Advantage works best for PREVENTION. If your cat actually has a flea infestation, please also give your cat a flea bath, consider giving your cat something that works right away like Capstar, vacuum your carpets, wash pet bedding, and then give Advantage for further prevention (pre-emerged adult fleas can live without a host for over 100 days).shikha.p

Out of the popular brands, this one at least works on day 3-5 after application. Then, it does nothing to deter fleas after day 6. Must be accompanied with de-fleaing bath (I use Adams shampoo) and daily flea combing. Point is, all the OTC flea and tick are no longer effective against fleas as they used to be 10+ years ago thanks to Darwinian evolution where the strongest and drug-resistant fleas have survived and reproduced. I'll continue buying Advantage II until I can get my fur kids on the prescription one, which I heard really works (for now).fluffyfurkidsmom

I am hesitant to use these types of products compulsively for preventive measures. Fortunately, We’ve not been in an area where fleas are out of control outside, as we have had problems in the past with other pets. These types of topical medicines would only be effective for a maximum of 1 1/2 to 2 weeks at best. And then our previous dog, and coincidentally our cat also, developed tumors where these types of medicines were being applied. I can’t say for certain that they were the cause. But it’s very suspicious that it happened in both animals. The dog we noticed first. And maybe a year or so later our cat. They both lived to past 11 years. And our dog was also on meds for epilepsy. Only briefly because he would spit out the meds no matter how clever I thought I was in hiding them. So, since he refused to take them, I stopped trying to make him. His grand mal seizures were frequent and long lasting. But, he just got better at spitting out the pills, even if I shoved them down his throat. i have only had to use these topicals a few times in our current dogs short life, so far. And it seemed to work fine and for as long as it said it was supposed to work. And when she or we seem a bit more itchy, I apply it again, and wait until it’s “needed”, again- as opposed to routinely scheduled once every month. And in my opinion, it works better than capstar, which is meant as a short acting topical to immediately relieve a flea problem getting out of control. But for whatever reason, this works better for us, even though it might take a few days to really notice results. (I never really noticed immediate results with. Capstar. It helped make the problem not get any worse. But it didn’t solve the problem either.)shelly.c

I absolutely loved this for my fur babies! What I DID NOT love was that like this past year, flea/tick season was so weird! Twice I found LIVE TICKS on me, after loving up on my baby boy, Lizard. (Male black n white cat) He is an indoor/outdoor baby, but I haven't ever had a problem like this until now. Worth mentioning, my female brindle colored cat also had irritation from this year's applications. She has to have prednisone each day, along with a topical treatment, otherwise she's in agony from inflammation and itching! I am NOT stating that it was the fault of this brand. I have no proof of that. I just wanted to make others aware that these things happened after the dosing though.pamela.g

Don't really know what changes was done to the formula . But Advantage 2 works no where near as good as it as the original formula . My cat(s) for years have always been an inside cat & used it for years with great success. I recently adopted a cat & started using Adtg.2. A week to a week & a half is about tops before you start to see your cat start scratching again. Not good especially for what they charge for the stuff. Another example of "don't fix it if it ain't broke". But I guess the all mighty dollar took care of that. Next time I take my cat to the vet I'll ask about other options.
