Dog Flea Treatment Pills For Sale (2024 Update)

We have a 6 pound 12 year old Chihuahua who recently had a reaction to a newer and larger "chew-able" heartworm preventative that contained an added ingredient. It's like she was in a daze, staring, trembling and walking in "slow motion"…very scary! After discussing it with the vet, and reading the possible side effects of the new medication (which included neurological symptoms), we decided to return to this Interceptor medication, which she's taken for years with no problem (it's also a much smaller pill, only about 5mm, and easy to slip into a piece of banana or apple… since she refuses to take pills without disguising them). Unfortunately, our vet was out of them and informed us that this specific pill has been discontinued and suggested we check online. So I purchased two of these 6 dose boxes from Valley Vet Supply, enough to last me an entire year (we live in a warm climate that has mosquitoes all year round). And I was thrilled to get a MUCH better price here online. The ordering went smoothly. They just contacted our vet for the prescription and we received the product in about three days! My vet recommended Interceptor as I was convinced my sweet Greyhound became ill every month when I gave her Heart Guard. She would have an upset stomach and diarrhea for days after receiving it. My vet explained I wasn't crazy, some dogs were indeed allergic to the main ingredient in Heart Guard but still need protected from heart worms so suggested Interceptor as it did not possess the ingredient making my dog ill. He was right! Six months now on Interceptor and she happily takes it burried in a piece of cheese (it is a hard chew instead of a soft chew like Heart Guard), and remains ill/symptom free. This is GREAT for my dog. It was prescribed, over other heart worm meds, because she has a slight detection of heart murmur. We've been using this product her whole life and are happy with it. I usually wrap the flavored tab in a soft treat or piece of meat, or even just stick it in peanut butter on another treat and she'll eat it right up. Only a few times, she's taken it completely by itself. It's a small-flat-like hard texture, so not something she's used to. We're happy with interceptor.Justine F

I buy this every 6 months, have been doing so for years, but the last 2 years ticks have been really bad on our property, so much so that I have purchased a haul-around sprayer and sprayed an entire acrewhere Dasher roams. Any ticks that actually bite him, they die. (even found one on his lip one day; didn't wait for him to die though…) It makes good sense to use this preventive; it is easy to apply and he doesn't even notice it but I can rest assured that he is protected.Andrew

I purchased this for my 6 dogs that had ticks. I pulled the ticks, applied the product and we haven't see anymore ticks. We live in the country and our dogs are in tall grass and timber daily so very happy this product is working! Well worth the money and I don't like giving anything oral to my animals for ticks or fleas. I don't believe it can be good for them and could shorten their life……..hope this helps!Fitz2022

Ok, so I wanted to rate this product 5 stars but I can't. Does the product kill the fleas? Yes. If you are looking for a quick fix, this is your product. I saw results immediately. However, I did have to use another tablet to kill the fleas (which was suggested on the box). This box came with 6 tablets. However, if you read the description on the product it says that results will not last more than 24 hours, meaning this is not a long term solution compared to NexGard. If you know for certain your dog is not going back to a flea area and this is just a quick fix, buy this. I would buy this for my cat since he's an indoor cat only. But I wouldn't use this for my dogs for long term use since I am always taking them to parks. So, if you''re looking for a quick fix, this is it. But I wouldn't waste your money if you're looking for a long term solution. I really wanted to like this. Maybe I will just by the NexGard after all. i just hate how expensive it is.TRios

I ordered online last night and picked it up at Petco store this afternoon. It worked well for my dog(24 lb)! I needed something effective product to kill flea after unsuccessful flea shampoo and spray. I and my family got many flea bites as well. I gave my dog a pill tonight. I was expecting to see many fleas drop on the floor but it didn’t. However, 1 hour later I brushed her and found few dead fleas on her body. She is sleeping very well tonight without scratching. WOW, My little dogs fight flees every year. No matter how much I vacuum and use flee powers on the floor and furniture and their beds, they still (every summer) have a really hard time. Because of the climate in the location, we are living, fleas are a year-round problem. I have rescue cats and dogs which are not always in the greatest condition when they arrive. My Vet recommends Capstar to help control the fleas, before getting them onto a monthly flea treatment! One Capstar pill is only good for 24-36 hours, if needed I give the cats another pill to complete flea treatment. Crushing the pill and putting it in their favorite moist food did not work for me, they noticed the difference and refused to eat it!Dawn

My neighbors have cats and dogs and do not use flea preventative. With all the rain we've had in the past month, my 7 dogs are infested with fleas. 3 are allergic and very bills are outrageous!! This will hopefully alleviate some of the infestation.Tanya

I've used Capstar for years. It's very very safe. Fleas begin falling off in 30 minutes, but it takes a couple hours to get them all. You can give a second dose after 24 hours. Ordered Capstar on 5/26. It's been "ready to go" for 10 days. Called and got a replacement order. Waiting to see if that one actually arrives.MeghanSter

I've been using this for a few years now. I've never seen a single flea or tick on Maggie until 2 days ago. We walked near some wooded areas that day and I found a tick on her that night. Our dog could not take oral flea preventative, as they made her very ill and lethargic. She was then placed on a topical solution, which worked for years before the fleas became immune. She is allergic to fleas, which created quite a dilemma. My daughter recommended Credelio that she gives her young dog after he also had a negative reaction to an oral medication. Our vet does not carry Credelio, so we contacted Entirely Pets, and are pleased to report, that our elderly dog was able to ingest it easily (it must taste okay, too) and the fleas are gone.Marsha

Yesterday morning, I purchased Credelio for my 15 lbs dog. She had been itching with fleas for about one week. I needed a prescription to purchase and the vet I've been taking her is nearly impossible to get in to see since Covid restrictions began. I usually use comfortis for my dogs. But one of mine is on seizure meds and couldn't take anything but this. I am completely satisfied. I gave it to him yesterday and today no fleas. He has allergies because of these pests and always scratching till he bleeds and be was losing his hair. Couldn't sleep because he was miserable. Baths would help but i was giving so many that he caught a cold . So when i took him to his vet this iscwhat he recommended . . Will be ordering more . This tablet is good at keeping the insects of of my dog and it the only issue is that the dog dislikes the taste. So i have to crush it and mix it with some especially delicious for him to eat it. I ordered a 6 month supply for my dog and the medication I received expired after 3 months based on the expiration on the box. I called and the representative kept telling me the prescription was good for a year even though the box expired in 3 months. The actual prescription the vet wrote is good for a year which is correct; however, the meds I received do expire in 3 months. I live in a crazy flea ridden area. Southern swamp fleas are really tough to keep away. If you've got the money, go with Nexgard. We don't, so we tried this product out. It works just as well as Frontline, which here, isn't wonderfully but good enough. When we lived in IL Frontline was plenty. We also wash pet bedding often, and use food grade diatomaceous earth. You've eaten it many times without realizing, farmers use it on wheat and other crops to kill destructive insects (caterpillars and other wormies with exoskeletons). This is a very safe method for killing adult fleas, hopefully before they can lay eggs. Don't buy the pool stuff, get food grade. Sprinkle it on the carpet before vacuuming. Once fleas come into contact with it, they die within 4 hours – it slices up their exoskeletons. Obviously we can't coat every flea, but doing this regularly really cuts down on the problem (nyuk) and is much safer than harsh chemicals – plus, no smell. Just like talcum powder, flour, and other particulates, avoid breathing it in, as it can be an irritant to your and your pet's lungs (no tossing it in the air and dancing under it naked, but a little shouldn't hurt). For those hard to vacuum areas like under furniture, sprinkle a bit and leave it. There are also these bulb things you can buy to spread the dust more evenly, but it's cheap so we just use a sifter or shaker bottle with small holes. We killed them inside, but they kept reappearing. We realized we have a screened in porch with sand and gravel right outside the back door. Fleas love that stuff. Sprinkled it in the gravel and added the porch to the regular DE routine and now it's unusual to find those devils. Our dog has bad allergies to fleas, so they still irritate him but once they've bitten him they're kaput. Good luck! And if you life in the Southeast, my sympathies to your poor doggie!L.C.

Tried this on my dog that not only has sensitive skin , but also goes insane when bitten by a flea. Scratches and rubs herself raw and hair free in spots all over. Baths and dips made no improvement. Started using this a couple years ago and couldn't be more satisfied. I haven't noticed any side effects and she is significantly more comfortable. I know when its time to retreat. At around 4 weeks ish she is seen beginning to scratch and rub her back on the coffee table again. Retreat and all is good again.Skankhunt42

I have used Fiproguard Max for three years and have been completely satisfied then it was discontinued and replaced with Fiproguard Plus. Thanks to that I have been fighting a flea problem on my dogs and in my house!! Imagine sitting on your couch with your dog and a flea jumps on your arm, then you find them all over your dog! Mad dash to the store to buy (more $$) flea killer shampoos, sprays . Wash the dogs, all the bedding and soft furnishings, spray the house from top to bottom and guess what? In two days they're back! Finally had to get my house fumigated, (more $$) research other flea prevention products (more time) and get my dogs treated with a new product. I am SO mad!! Why on earth did they have to change the formula? BTW I phoned before I ordered the Plus formula to ask that question and asked if it worked as well as the Max but of course all the person knew was what was printed on the product description, well heck I could read that myself , thanks for nothing!AnnW

If you have an infestation of fleas in your home, PLEASE treat it properly first before administering tablets to your pet or else the process is useless as fleas from your home will jump back on your pet. Infestation advice: Use like 2 different branded flea foggers at the same time in carpeted rooms (fleas rarely live on wooden floors) and then spray the home with Frontline and Indorex household spray. Vacuum frequently to collect fleas and dispose accordingly (I emptied the vacuum contents into a bucket of soapy water outside to drown them). This will kill the fleas, larvae and eggs and prevent them from jumping back on your pet. It is a good idea to spray Frontline and Indorex household spray once every month (or at least every 6 months if you can't afford it). All in all, this product worked great for my cat. However, it didn't work very well for my dog (but I don't think I gave her the right dosage because I am unsure of her weight – she is a small but heavy dog).RazzleDizzleX

i buy these tablets as it saves a trip to the vets.you give the cat a pill and if it scratches within 1 hour then there are flees. my cat likes the garden and theres hedghogs there so flees abound. these tablets help me manage this problem ok dont expect an instant cure and wath your cat for signs of fleas. theres no real permanent cureprefixkzk

Tri-Heart is the same ingredients as Heart Guard but at a much more reasonable price. My dogs don't hesitate to take it with their bowl of food each month. They do get a little looser poops for the next 12 hours, but I haven't noticed any other side effects. The Heart Guard causes that for them as well.TamE

Let me lead with saying that after I came back here to look closer, yes, the website does indeed say these are tablets and not chewables. That said, I did not see that the first time I ordered and was misled by the "Generic for Heartgard" language. In human medicine, generic meds are the same as name brand and I made the (false) assumption this would carry forward. While these do indeed have the same active drug as the name brand, don't be fooled into thinking this is a "flavored" tablet. It's a very hard tab. My dogs usually willingly take medications even without an incentive like a treat. However, with these, it was a massive struggle. No matter what we tried to hide the tablet in, they refused to eat it, and even the old "put it in the back of their throat" trick was a struggle. For a comparison, if you've tried giving your dog Trifexis, it looks just the same. We eventually got these into our dogs, though it was traumatic for all involved. I certainly won't be doing this again. I'm returning the remainder and buying the name brand. The relatively small difference in price simply isn't worth the trauma to my dogs.Brandon

I have used tri-heart for many years on all of my dogs. I have never had a reaction any kind no matter what the age of the dog I am administering it to. I would recommend tri-heart as an affordable alternative to other brands. We have been using Revolution on our kitty since he was 6 months old. He came to us from the shelter with coccidia and roundworm. No matter how hard we tried, the roundworm refused to clear. After reading that Revolution is the only flea product that also deals with parasites, we requested an RX from the vet. Within two weeks of starting him on Revolution, the roundworm finally cleared. He is now 3.5 years old, and he has never had another positive parasite test since. He is tested at least twice a year, because we walk him on-leash. He munches on grass where fleas could easily hitch a ride. Very effective product. I just wish it hadn’t doubled in price over the last year. The first time we put it on him, his fur disintegrated a bit at the application site. However, that has never occurred again in the three years since.zkid

I have a very picky eater Schnauzer. I can’t tell you how much money I spent oral flea medication and she would not eat it. I tried every trick. Then I went to over the counter transdermal flea medication. After applying, my dog for days acted like it was burning her, then there was this greasy spot on her fur. My vet suggested Revolution. My dog doesn’t react to the application. Plus it’s flea and heartworm together. Great value and easy to apply.Kage

Our dog does like like many of the flea Rx on the market, so we switched to Revolution a long time ago. She deals with it well. Usually, she will try to rub it off, so we take her on a really long walk, so she will forget about it. When we couldn’t get Revolution for a brief time, we were told that she could do K9 Advantax II. Our dog had a very bad 3 day reaction to that, I think it was because of the permethrin that is in it. So I’m so glad Revolution is available again, and bought her several doses right away. Never saw any fleas on her while using it.OrganizerPro

This product works! But you should allow 2 months to reach the potential, its not going work over night but it is design to help control those pesty fleas your dogs hates just like you! I suggest using a dip or spray between these months and doing the reapplications on time… DO NOT wait days between when it is time to reapply! I actually do it 4 days early. bath and dry and put on. It will help control flea infestation but u need to wash beds, use a spray/dip between applications and u need to vacuum and empty the vacuum after each use. wash everything your dog lays on.kissthefroggy

I first started using Vectra 3D (the one that goes up to 20lbs) in 2015 or 2016 as it was vet recommended. I used to use Frontline but my dogs would still get ticks w/ Frontline. It got to a point where i had a couple vet visits a month just to remove a tick. My dogs are mostly indoor dogs and i live in the country. My house is clean. My dogs would pick up the ticks from when i’d walk them on the road nearby. Let’s just say i’m experienced w/ tick removal now. My vet recommended it to me and he carried it. When i started using it back then, both my dogs NEVER had a tick again! I even tested to see how good it was, walking them in areas i wouldn’t normally allow them to go into, like high grass. Result – still no ticks. They’ve never had fleas or heart worm – knock on wood. It has been the best and most effective treatment i’ve ever used and i have never used nor wanted to use anything else. I ended up having to switch vets and the vet i’m with now doesn’t offer it. I’m glad to be able to get it off 1800petmeds and at a great price too. The vets aren’t exactly cheap w/ vectra but it’s worth the cost if it keeps the nasty critters off your dog and your pocket book from a vet visit. Applied the application on my dog. Within 20 minutes started acting abnormal. Started running around and jerking his hind legs drinking a lot of water. After 1 and half hours I put him a bath to wash off product. Helplessly watching my poor dog not knowing what else to do. Don’t use product!! Shame on my vet to sale this product. I'm not sure why we continued to use this product for so long. We apply and still frequently find ticks on our dogs. Contacted Vectra and their response was well if you hadn't used it you would have found even more ticks. Would rather pay less and get the same result from another brand. I am seeing reviews that have me wondering what people expect? Maybe read up on everything fully before complaining? Yes, you will still see fleas every time your dog goes outside if there are fleas out there. They will pick them up on walks and even at pet stores! They come I to your yard on other animals and on their own. Frontline is NOT a repellent. You also need to make sure you gollow the directions for application! Wait at LEAST 48hrs to apply if you have bathed tour dog as it travels via their natural skin oils and they need time to develop if they have been stripped away by soap/shampoo, as well as making sure you wait at least a week before bathing them after it is applied and make sure it is either a gentile baby shampoo or a ph balanced dog shampoo that does not have skin drying agents and says it is approved for use with flea treatment. Most good dog shampoo is these days. Dogs really shouldn't get more than one full bath (deep scrub) a month when possible. We use a natural ph balenced for dogs waterless shampoo in between baths as well as sensitive skin baby wipes if needed. If you live in areas with fleas outside (especially warmer, dry states like Oklahoma and Texas) they WILL get on your pet. However, they die after exposure to the Frontline, it usually takes about 24-48hrs to notice a difference when you first start using it if your dog is already infested. If you have a flea issue in your area then I recommend treatment of your yard as well! We had to treat our yard every summer and fall for the first 4 yrs we were here as the people next door to us have 3 dogs, chickens (in town smh) and other animals and I do not know if they use any kind of treatment and the people that lived in our house before us had 4 dogs and I do not think they used treatment at all because it was a nightmare in our backyard the first 2-3 years fighting them after we moved in. We have been here for 6yrs now and haven't had to treat our yard for the past year or two and we only have to apply Frontline every other month on our dog now. I still see a few fleas here or there once in a while at the beginning of summer (in our yard) and throughout fall usually (on our dog) if we have been out to the lake or to the park or something but that's all. That tells me that Frontline still works just fine. Anyone that has ever dealt with a true flea infestation knows the difference! They reproduce so fast that your whole house is overrun before you even realize they are a problem, literally in a month if left untreated they are everywhere, on furniture, all over your house, on you even, to the point you end up having to bug bomb your entire house (been there done that our first summer here, it was insane! I had never seen anything like it before). We have been using Frontline since on our 74lb dog(just the up to 88lb one), after extensive research on everything out there for flea control including the oral types our vet carries I still maintain that Frontline Plus is the absolute safest choice for those of us that do not like using things like pesticides/chemicals on ourselves, our yard or our pets unless absolutely necessary and prefer natural remedies when possible. Unfortunately, flea treatment is not one of those things you can go chemical free on. However this stuff is safer and harder to overdose than many of the other options and we will continue to use it!AW82

I've used for about 1 year now and for the most of thenyear it worked well. But the other day I found THREE engorged and 1 non-engorged tick on my dog! We also treat our yard and even our woods around our yard. But this still happened! I contacted my vet concerned for my dogs health. I've used this since we quit using flea collars (years ago) Over the years we have used nothing but Front Line. We live in a rural area with wild animals around. I've used it on puppies, kittens, Labradors and dogs weighing only 7 pounds! It is absolutely the best as I never have had a problem with fleas or ticks.
