Because of this, the deworming benefits of Heartgard once a month are great, in addition to protection from heartworm transmitted by mosquitoes. The digestibility of Heartgard is also appreciated. Easily given as a treat with a meal, my mini Aussie never has any symptoms of an upset tummy or loose stools afterwards. I used to have a Basset Hound who had a very touchy tummy. The Heartgard Chewables worked well for her also, compared to other brands that she would not tolerate (voiding by regurgitating), even when splitting the dose between two meals. With the Heartguard Chewables, I would split the tasty chewable between two meals for my Basset and never had any issues– not even burping, as she would with other medications. Our 9 year rescue pup Lily, has been taking Heartgard since we adopted her at 12 weeks old. She has had issues through her life, bad hips resulting in surgery her first year, but her heartworm tests have always been negative. Lily has no problem taking them like treats. I’ve used this brand of heartworm medication for all of my dogs during their lives. I was an avid customer but since an incident with the company I now question if the product is still effective. Our 10 year old jack Russell was given heartgard monthly for her whole life when at 10 years old she tested positive for heart worms. Our vet is a participant of the heartgard satisfaction guarantee and rebate program so they immediately contacted the company with our previous negative tests and receipts to try to get them to pay for the expensive treatment. Instead of trying to immediately treat our dog they tried to poke every hole they could in our case. It took long time but eventually they did re-compensate us some amount of the treatment. Of course, as good pet owners, we immediately paid for the treatment that ultimately saved her life. It’s just sad that we could have lost our pet if we would’ve waited on the company to pay for treatment. The fact that she had been on heartgard monthly for her whole life & still contracted heart worms is what makes me question if this product is still effective. Another thing that really irks me about this company is that they have never sent me the promised rebates (prepaid Visa cards) they say should come in the mail 6-8 weeks after purchase of x amount of their products. Literally just in the lives of the dogs I have now equal $180 worth of not received rebates. It’s sad but now I will be looking for another brand & urge others to do the same. Before even getting her home I pondered the wormers at our local Petco, selected this one. On day 3 the worms came out, though her poor bloated belly was reduced after the first day. Will use this again if worming can't wait for the vet. Due to her weight we did have to weigh out the medicine (half a gram ='s 1/4 teaspoon), and you must have an accurate weight on the dog and an accurate measuring device for it to be as effective as it can be without giving too much. I suspect that this is a good, effective supplement for potassium in cats. My vet recommended it and said to just squirt it on a finger and wipe on the roof of the cats mouth so he had to swallow it. We have been using Revolution on our kitty since he was 6 months old. He came to us from the shelter with coccidia and roundworm. No matter how hard we tried, the roundworm refused to clear. After reading that Revolution is the only flea product that also deals with parasites, we requested an RX from the vet. Within two weeks of starting him on Revolution, the roundworm finally cleared. He is now 3.5 years old, and he has never had another positive parasite test since. He is tested at least twice a year, because we walk him on-leash. He munches on grass where fleas could easily hitch a ride. Very effective product. I just wish it hadn’t doubled in price over the last year. Our dog does like like many of the flea Rx on the market, so we switched to Revolution a long time ago. She deals with it well. Usually, she will try to rub it off, so we take her on a really long walk, so she will forget about it. When we couldn’t get Revolution for a brief time, we were told that she could do K9 Advantax II. Our dog had a very bad 3 day reaction to that, I think it was because of the permethrin that is in it. I have used Heartgard Plus on all my dogs since 2015 with no issues. I give it on the 20th of every month. I have never missed a dose nor have I been late. My dogs are inside dogs and only go out to run and use the bathroom. Last Saturday, my Weimaraner tested low antigen positive for heartworms. I was shocked so we took her for a second opinion. I used to give these to my dog who had IBD & was very picky. He refused to eat the Fortiflora, as it was flavored. I could sprinkle these right on dry food & he ate it mo problem. My lab/beagle mix suffers from skin allergies, and the poor thing will scratch and chew herself until she bleeds, so I was very eager to try this product. My poor pupper got irritated paws from horrible ginko berries smashed all over the fall ground and then made them worse by licking. They were so red and I felt so bad. This product is on the shelf next to a dozen others that claim to do the same thing, but I didn't get to it until three others didn't get the job done. This showed visible improvement within a day. My 12 year old chihuahuas liver blood work came back very very high so her vet put her on Denamarin. When we did her follow up blood work 4 months later her numbers tripled. I was recommended Purina Pro Plan FortiFlora by my vet and have had great results. Since then I grab it at Petsmart when needed. My pitbull has a very sensitive stomach and often has issues. Since using FortiFlora, most of his issues have been resolved. He loves the flavor. I believe it's beef and it's so easy to give it to him. You just sprinkle the packet on his food once a day and that's all. I've tried treat probiotics in the past and he wasn't a fan of the taste of them. Also I had to make sure he chewed them completely for them to work. The powder just makes it so much easier. It is pricey but well worth it. Bert is old and has a few gas issues. Well a lot of gas issues really and sharing a room with him is sometimes not so much fun. The Purina Pro Plan Forti Flora sachets have made a huge difference to his gut issues and his enjoyment of eating. There is now much less tummy grumbling and much less gas. The sachets are so easy to mix with his normal wet food and Bert enjoys eating it. He seems to have got his appetite back since adding the sachets to his food, and is enjoying the taste, and I also think the good smell is helping too. I have been giving it once a week. I would like to see some more instructions in the pack but other than that we are very happy. It’s so good to see our old boy with a better appetite and it’s made it more of a pleasure to cuddle up to him and the air is generally much better! I started using Connectin for my 13-year-old pitbull approximately a month ago giving her 2 a day. She had been struggling with stairs for at least a year coming up one at a time very slowly and taking breaks in between steps. Much to my surprise she actually ran up the stairs a few days ago even though she has a luxated patella in one knee and an old ACL injury in the other knee.
