I did some research and found that clavamox isn't much different from amoxicillian and asked my vet if Magi could switch meds. I would highly recommend this medicine, it's affordable and effective. The only down side of it is that it came in bubble gum flavor and Miss Magi wasn't thrilled with that lol normally she takes her meds very calmly and that's it but with this flavor she scratched me up pretty good 🙁 but it worked and that's all that matters!!

We have tried several different anti inflammatory medications for our 13 year old Aussie with arthritis issues. He has now been on Metacam for a couple of months and it seems to be working the best with no adverse side effects. It is easy to dispense once a day on his food. The only problem currently seems to be a general shortage in the supply of the medication. My 17 year old snowshoe Siemese has some painful decline. The only thing is to keep him comfortable with an anti-inflammatory. We had the labs done, spoke with our vet and we give him the .5 in the morning dose and the 1.5 at night. The Metacam smells like honeysuckle and my Dusty comes up and will put his face up to me, he wants his meds. He is comfortable and eating better than before the Metacam. The 2 different doses don't leave him dopey but he is alert during the day and by early morning he is ready to eat his morning meal. We do our best to keep his metcam around the same time and every now and again he will need another .5 in afternoon if he has upset stomach and he will come to me for another light dose. His points have darkened and his weight is a little above 7#'s. He has always been a smaller cat especially compared to his brother whom we lost going on 3 years. I don’t want to jinx it or get ahead of myself, but so far this seems to be a miracle medication. My boy is big (98 pounds) and older (11.5 years). I agree with the other reviewer, who said they are too thick! I have to give away 1/2 the bag, because they’re too thick for my Havanese! The package says he needs a small, for his size, but he just can’t chew the big thick ones. I’ve resorted to buying the Petite, a time or two. Those are a completely different item. My dogs loves these, and they keep their teeth very clean. I know people get nervous with rawhide, but the trade off is worth it. These chew chips are coated with enzymes that clean the dogs teeth extremely well – and apparently it makes my dogs obsessed with them too. Because they love the taste, they actually CHEW them and don't immediately swallow them (the normal issue with rawhide chews). I've recommended these to all my dog owner friends and haven't received a single bad review yet. The trick is they need one of these day. There are 30 in a bag. So about a bag a month (depending on how quickly they finish the chew, my greyhound does one of these in a day no problem). It comes out to be about $200 a year, which for me has proven to be worth it, especially with a greyhound as greyhounds have notoriously bad teeth. My beagle/mut loves them too. My avid little mouser cat caught herself a little prize just a few days before a month-prior planned trip my husband and i were unavoidably about to go to. Apparently that mouse had bitten her back in the process, right on her tender little lip cleft! Before we knew it, that bite had gotten infected so bad she became lethargic, her face swollen an angry shade of red, she could not eat or even drink on her own and she could not even close her mouth and was drooling on herself. Using this for hot spots on my canine, this stuff does work but it sometimes can take up to 2 8oz. Bottles to heal the area's treated. Not sure if it's the strength of medicine or just those stubborn spots. I caught the spots early on and started treating them immediately and have been treating them for a month now and they are getting better but slowly, these things are stubborn. I can say that absolutely nothing else I tried worked. Believe it or not, I read online the other day that rubbing Pepto Bismol on hot spots actually works, you heard right, Pepto Bismol.
