Our dog was having eye discharge since she was a puppy. The vet diagnosed it as a tear duct that wasn’t developed and wouldn’t give meds. After her being a year old and us trying every tear stain cleaner known to man and none of them helping I ran across this med on chewy and decided to try it anyways just incase it would help. My friend introduced me to Terramycin (Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride) Antibiotic Ophthalmic Ointment, 3.5gm. Pinch tube very slowly and gently or it could make wa$te. For ocular infections, Antibiotic Gel. 1/8 oz. Tractor Supply $21.99. Long expiration date. I used this on four farm cats, sparingly, two days, two times a day. This eye ointment is great. I have had several cats over the years & only realized that this can be purchased without a prescription recently. I had one cat who would get frequent eye infections & the vet prescribed this med regularly. Of course, I always had to go to the vet & pay for a visit as well as the med. I wish I had known that I could order it because that would've definitely saved money. This ointment has been effective in treating any eye infection that my cats have gotten over the years.Vanessa

My animals tend to get what I call "goopy eyes" from time to time, mostly irritated from hay or just allergies or dust etc. I have used products similar to this in the past. I used this antimicrobial gel to help clear the irritants in their eyes. It worked and seemed to soothe their eyes right after I used it… However, unlike the current product I use, I found myself having to use it again a few hours later because the symptoms had come back. Compared to another brand that I use for the same purpose, I would not switch at this time and would not buy this product. As far as recommending it to a family member or friend, if what they were using was not working – I would recommend using it and giving it a try. I have actually passed along this sample to a family member who has horses and will be giving it a try with them. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with this product, I just don't think it was a good fit.Megan

I am very pleased with this product. It has a great consistency-not too tacky but not too runny either. I use this product on our 2 dogs. One tends to get dirt/other irritants in her eyes and then her eyes get red and itchy. Before I scheduled a vet appointment I figured that I would give this product a try; I'm glad I did-within 2 days her eyes were no longer red or irritated. The price seems fair for this product, especially since I would have had a more expensive bill had we gone to our vet. In addition to 2 dogs, we have 6 chickens. I am going to look into this product further to see if I could use this on our chickens should they have any eye problems.Jackie

We received this free trial of Vetericyn Antimicrobial Eye Gel for Pets and decided to test it on our 3 year old English Shepherd, Cooper. Cooper's favorite past time is running through long grasses in our field, which seem to cause him to get eye goobers. Cooper was very unhappy to get the eye gel drops and we often used 2 or 3 times more product than needed since so much ended up on his face and muzzle. Despite the challenges we faced when applying the eye gel, we were happy with the results. After 2 days of 2 applications each, Cooper's eye goobers had disappeared. This lasted for about 4 days before we started noticing the goobers again. Overall the product worked and we were happy with it. However, it was difficult to apply and seems unecessary for simple eye goobers, especially with the 1 to 2 times a week application requirement. We will definitely be hanging on to the product for future eye injuries that Cooper may suffer.Cait

I started with a tiny drop on the corner of my dog's eye to be sure he wouldn't have any reaction to it. Later that day, I went ahead and applied a few drops in each of his eyes. I applied the gel two times a day for three days in a row and by the fourth day his eyes had stopped having discharge. It is almost like my dog knew the drops would make him feel better as he kept his head very still when I applied the gel to his eyes. The shape of the dispenser where you squeeze the product out of makes it very easy to apply the gel to their eyes. While it is a "gel," it comes out of the dispenser fairly quickly which I find allows for an accurate application. The gel-like substance is great to confirm that you got the gel where you want it to go. Upon inspection the eye itself was untouched but the eyelid was cut about an inch long from the back corner towards the front. I cleaned it and figured I would just leave it alone. The next morning it was itchy and irritating her and REALLY swollen. I cleaned her up, applied the Vetericyn ophthalmolic gel, and put a patch over her eye to keep her from rubbing it and repeated this 4 times that day and removed the patch that evening to let it air. By the next morning all the swelling had completely subsided and it was no longer irritating her! I use this for my dogs eye daily. He has cataracts and the whites of his eyes can become red. Optixcare works great for keeping his eyes lubricated and calms down any bloodshot area. I keep mine in the fridge for extra relief when applying.2012passionflower2012

Our dog seems to like the way it feels in his eyes. He is totally blind but he doesn't try to rub it out, as with other drops that veterinarians have prescribed in the past. In fact at morning and night both, he seems to sense when it is time for us to put in his drops. He starts barking at us when it's time and bumps his way into the kitchen, where we usually apply them. If he doesn't need to go outside to pee or whatever, then he simply makes his way peacefully back to his pallet. We put this product in about five minutes after we put in an antibiotic drop. My vet recommended this product for my dog’s dry eyes. I’ve been using it for about a week now and am already seeing an improvement. I was worried about it being gel and I thought for sure my dog would fight me, but it has been a piece of cake! My 11 year old dog's eyes have become "sunken", the lid edges roll in and the lashes make his eyes uncomfortable. After treating an initial infection, I found that a tiny dab of petroleum jelly would help for about 24 hours. That was hard to get into his eye; I was afraid of hurting him with my little tool. My vet recommended Optixcare Ophthalmic Plus. It is a watery gel that I can drip into the eye, much safer to use. It doesn't give as good initial protection, but seems to be effective for about 30 hours. When he gets goopy eyes, I clean them and give him a dose. I bought this because my dog is having issues with red, dry, itchy eyes this winter with the dry air. I know it isn't an infection because we went down that road already and I needed a product to help flush out and lubricate his eyes. This seems to do the trick. My dog suffers from secondary entropion. If allergies or some mechanical irritation start to bother him his eyelids curl in and bother his eye. My Labrador had stitches in her front leg right on the ankle joint so it was at high risk of infection as very close to the bone. I was hoping this would negate the need for the huge buster collar however, she would still lick at it through the sleeve and make it wet therefore increasing the risk of infection to the wound. She therefore still had to wear the buster collar as well as the sleeve to stop her licking it. Within a couple of days, there was a hole in the material of the sleeve and since then, a further tear has developed, so the quality of the material is not that good. She has also worked out how to get her leg out of it so all in all, it hasn’t been that great! That said, I would still recommend using one as it was better than not having the wound covered at all but for me, it didn’t negate the need for a buster collar unfortunately.Julieann

1 Very happy owner and one calm snoring Dog. He`s been at the top of his leg the last few days and licked it raw . No socks long enough and a long sleeved T shirt was not a success . Ordered this sleeve out of desperation . Money well spent ….. came in a flash and as soon as I put it on he seemed really excited and happy, running round barking the way he does before we go a walk. Now he`s sleeping and not looked at his leg once. My avid little mouser cat caught herself a little prize just a few days before a month-prior planned trip my husband and i were unavoidably about to go to. Apparently that mouse had bitten her back in the process, right on her tender little lip cleft! Before we knew it, that bite had gotten infected so bad she became lethargic, her face swollen an angry shade of red, she could not eat or even drink on her own and she could not even close her mouth and was drooling on herself. Because of the covid situation and proximity of timing to our trip to see family, there was no way to get her to a vet in time before we had to leave in 3-4 days. Using this for hot spots on my canine, this stuff does work but it sometimes can take up to 2 8oz. Bottles to heal the area's treated. Not sure if it's the strength of medicine or just those stubborn spots. I caught the spots early on and started treating them immediately and have been treating them for a month now and they are getting better but slowly, these things are stubborn. I can say that absolutely nothing else I tried worked. Believe it or not, I read online the other day that rubbing Pepto Bismol on hot spots actually works, you heard right, Pepto Bismol. I haven't had the nerve to try it as I thought it could just be some nut trying to infect your pet even worse. I just can't believe how well this product works. I've had eye floaters since I was 18 years old – 40 years later still have them – and this product relieved the eye floaters within in days. I am stunned. I had this one eye floater that would blur my vision until I would try to move it with eye exercises, very annoying and now its gone. Hi dear friends!This amazing Product -Safe, healthy, effective Safe ingredients (no chemicals) and healthy (reduces contamination as in multiple use containers). Plus, this is one of the few products that lubricates my semi-dry eyes for longer than perhaps a half hour. I always trust Boiron to have healthy and effective products.I love these drops, they work much better and feel like they last longer than any other over the counter eye drops. One BIG draw back is that this ONLY comes in individual use packets…. and the top doesn't fit back on once opened.. So you either have to use it all, find a place to lean it to keep until the next use or waste some of it… for this price… wasting isn't an option for me. Good for scratchy eyes (guess it's dry eye). 71 yrs old and don't use glasses. This helps when eyes get scratchy esp. a night. At times I have used it daily, but not currently — just for occasional spurts of eye scratchiness. A little hard for me to use. Most of it drips down my face, but I think all eye drops are like that.
