My big guy isn't exactly what you might call graceful. He's a dork. A giant clumsy dork. So little aches and pains are just a part of our life together. I'm taking ibuprofen because he's nearly pulled my shoulder out of socket after trying to run and hide from the wind and he's taking his doggy aspirin because he tripped over his own feet while running and now yelps every step he takes. These really do help. They're easy to give wrapped in a little bread or dipped in peanut butter. I combined this with Charlotte’s Web Hip and Joint hemp for my dog with osteoarthritis. She could barely walk for three days. Bought this yesterday for my 6 year old maltipoo because he has back pain from time to time due to ivdd. Vet wasn’t in and the hospital was booked. Emergency room costs a fortune. So with no prescription, I decided to give this a try. My lil fur baby was in so much pain, he was trembling and wouldn’t eat (understandably so). I gave him a 1/2 one in the car and about an hour later gave him another half cause he still seemed to be in pain…next thing i knew he was eating like crazy lol!!!! My dog broke his back just behind his front legs. We opted for home care and eventually chiropractic. The chiropractor recommended Pain Plus. Cocker has “dry eyes and prescribed steroids and cyclosporine twice daily each eye. Suspect his extremely elevated liver enzymes may be due to long term steroid use or could just be his age. Haven’t tested for Cushing’s but sonograms reveal no tumors on liver or pituitary glands. He was lethargic and never feeling well until his doctor advised trying the Denamarin. His Opthalmologist concurred it was a great idea. Haven’t yet tested his liver enzymes again to see if the numbers have improved (hasn’t been on them quite a full month) but I’ve reordered and will receive the pills monthly. Bottom line: he’s a lot more energetic, playing with his toys again, not sleeping all the time, just overall feeling so much better. He’s acting normal again—normal for an 11-plus year-old Cocker. Did a lot of research before giving him the Denamarin and felt they were safe, and most people had positive results using it. Only drawback would be that the pills for large dogs are really big. You’re supposed to administer 1 hr before or 2 hrs after a meal, which I do with a little piece of boiled chicken breast to hide it and help it go down, and it goes down without a problem. Can’t imagine any dog of any size being able to swallow a pill that size without an owner hiding it in a little chunk of something, cheese, pill pocket, treat. Anything to help it go down easier. And helps if they drink a little water. Can’t wait to have his liver enzymes tested again. I’m confident they will have improved. Side note: when one’s liver is not working properly, urine can have an odd and strong odor, which his did. Standing several feet away, I knew something wasn’t right. Have had pain, aches and muscle inflammation for years particularly on my left knee, ankle and foot; to make matters worse about a year ago the Dr. diagnosed me with an osteoarthritic knee; before that time and since have used many products and devices (non-prescription) seeking to alleviate pain and inflammation. That is until about mid- August 2014 when I was introduced to Absorbine Liniment Veterinary Gel while visiting a cousin in Puerto Rico, of course I doubted its effectiveness. I put some gel all over my knees, ankles and feet that night; the next morning I was absolutely amazed at how fast pain and swelling had significantly been reduced and within a couple nights and days was relieved. I now use Absorbine Liniment Veterinary Gel once every other night and at times during the morning, as I find this regimen works best for my needs. Am happy as can be to declare for the first time in many years my left knee pain is greatly reduced and muscle and ankle inflammation is under control!
This Gel is NOT just for horses. I was having a terrible pain in my shoulder radiating down to my elbow in my right arm from a car accident years ago (arthritis). The gel did wonders. It was referred to me by a Client of mine that had a very SEVERE case of shingles and after 3 nights of NO sleep, she was told about this gel by a friend, bought it and slept like a baby. Although this product is labeled veterinary liniment and recommended for animals only, I have used it for years for joint and arthritis pain upon the recommendation by my Hollywood Stuntmen friends as the only thing they use. I was pleasantly surprised at the immediate relief felt so have continued to use it since for my personal use and have referred it to many friends who also have become consistent users of this gel product. I prefer the gel since it applies more easily without a mess. I must caution however not to rub your eyes after application until after you have thoroughly washed your hands (and no that is not a word of caution based on personal experience…lol). I had a spider bite that had gotten really bad. The pharmacist recommended I use campho-phenique instead of cortisone cream because campho-phenique has anti-inflammatory properties and also helps with the itching. By the next day, that bite was WAY better. It does have a slight medicinal smell, but I don’t notice it once I get it rubbed in. I highly recommend it.Debbie
I was surprised when I opened the bottle that the medicine was liquid (it was clearly stated on the box, however all other pain and itch relief medicines I own are creams). I used a cotton round to apply the liquid to my daughter’s insect bite. A little bit goes a long way! I only had to use the product once to relieve her bug bite symptoms (this was used in the fall, not when she typically gets insect bites and her reactions are typically more severe). When I opened the bottle the smell was very strong. Ingredients are eucalyptus oil and light mineral oil. If you do not like either of those smells, I don’t suggest purchasing this product. I would like to see what this product can do for my children who have sensitive skins to insect bites in the summer when they happen more frequently. I recommend purchasing this product if you are looking for a liquid medication and don’t mind the smell.Kelly
I first encountered Campho-Phenique back about 1970, after having been stung twice by some Pesky Yellow Jackets, Vespula alascensis. As a kid of 13 they hurt like the dickens. My grandfather suggested I put some Campho-Phenique on the stings, and was impressed that a seemly old remedy (even then!) worked, and worked well. My senior bun loves these treats, and they do seem to be helping stop the progression of the arthritis in his hind legs and ankles. They don't actually come in this jar, they're in a little resealable bag, and the new treats come with a line down the centre to break them in half if your pet is just little and only needs part of one. Snowy gets 2 full tablets per day, but I do like to break them and hide them for him to find. When I first found out about this product, I used it to loosen tartar on my under one year old dogs teeth. And it worked! I was able to scrape off the tartar after about a week or so. But the key is to use the product EXACTLY as directed and if you can brush in between uses, that is helpful too.Michele
My Chiweenie's teeth do not have tartar on them since I started using this. He has needed his teeth cleaned twice a year which is very expensive and potentially dangerous since they have to use general anesthesia. My Vet recommended this for our senior dog. She was diagnosed with a heart issue last year and our vet is hesitant to do the anesthesia necessary for teeth cleaning unless we absolutely have to.
