My golden retriever is a chewer and loves ropes and he loves playing fetch so I thought to myself that this would be the perfect toy for him. Took less than an hour for him to start tearing it apart. I wouldn’t recommend this for dogs that are chewers.JordanT

I ordered these for my rescue pup for when we leave the house. They're great! She is very attached to me so giving her one of these kongs with peanut butter in her kennel right before we leave works perfectly! They material is very durable! My pup likes to chew on rubber toys and has chewed pieces off many of the ones she has. However, she has not been able to chew anything off of these kongs!kimberley.w

Kong dog toys make great dog chews with added fun! Some dogs love to chew and will chew things just for something to do and having a kong toy on hand to occupy them is a good idea. You can add peanut butter inside the Kong and it will keep them busy trying to get the treat out of it. It provides hours of fun and the dogs don't ever get sick of playing with it and chewing on it. They are made of super durable rubber. They are pretty close to indestructible. They withstand hours and hours of rough play without falling apart and puppies sharp teeth are no match for Kong. I used to buy nylabones but my dogs seem to use the Kong a lot more. I know with my dogs they love anything new they get for a little while and then they kind of get sick of it and stop playing with it. The Kong has really kept My dogs intrest and I think it's because of the added treat inside. My border collie thinks that she was put on this earth to destroy any and everything in get path. She has destroyed many a door and window from her incessant chewing and most toys hold no interest with her but even she loves Kong toys. I don't know about the breath freshening but I can say that the kongs must clean there teeth because of the rubber dragging across the teeth so much as they chew and lick. Its a long lasting toy that will definitely provide lots of fun. They are available at most pet care supply stores. They are a bit expensive, but it's worth it for how long lasting they are. They are a much safer alternative to rawhides or bones. No worry about them choking or swallowing none splinters. Check the Kong for damages before use and it's pretty safe. I think most dogs will love it and it should clean the teeth if they chew on it. I would recommend it to dogs who are energetic or dogs who love to chew. It works great for my dog who looses interest very quickly in toys so if and when she wears hers out I will definitely go out and purchase another for her.lindsey4488

Every dog loves this. Seriously. Fill them with peanut butter and treats – bam, a yummy toy. Throw it around the house so it bounces around and hits everything – bam, a destructive toy. I love all the nylabone products and hate, I know it's kind of a harsh word but it's the only one that fits my feeling, rawhide anythings. I had a husky/lab mix several years ago. She was about 10 years old at the time. She was chewing on a large rawhide bone in my mom's room and I was next door in my room. Suddenly, frantically my mom yelled for me to come into her room. I ran in and saw my dog choking. With no thought to the fact that she could have bitten my arm off I immediately opened her mouth and pulled out the rawhide bone she was chewing on (one side got soft so she must have thought she could swallow it without thinking about the rest that wasn't soft which I grabbed on to), pulled it out and threw it right in the garbage. That was about 10 years ago. I basically saved her life that night. I dread the thought of what might have happened if I weren't home that night. She lived another 5 years (until age 15) after that incident which the vet said was phenomenal for as large a dog as she was. Then I found the nylabone products and these are the only items that I feel safe leaving down for my dog or any of my foster dogs when I go to work. I have a variety of shapes and sizes. I even recommend these products to everyone I meet who are considering rawhide. Yes they are more expensive than rawhide but not having to worry about my dog(s) choking to death while I am at work are much more important to me.Dolores1

My fault as I did not realize the product was such a hard plastic feel. My GSD didn't like it at first but eventually chewed a bit on the nylabone stick but it made hard sharp teeth marks and she started coughing from the little pieces coming off. Maybe fine if this product is just used to throw and retrieve but I would not recommend it as a chew toy.Simone

I've been buying Nylabones for every single one of my dogs for over a decade now, because they are the only toys that last longer than a week! I have an AmStaff, a Pittie, a Chihuahua, and a Chi-Pin and all 4 of them have the same veracious chewing habits. My small dogs strangely prefer all of the larger Nylabone models meant for bigger dogs over the teeny tiny ones meant for them, lol..don't ask me why, but they do! With daily usage from all 4 of my dogs, they tend to last anywhere from 9-12 months, until the big dogs whittle them down to what I call "shanks" (they tend to get a bit pointy/jagged on whatever end has been chewed on more)..and then once they become too small & unsafe for the big dogs, I just remove them and give them to the little dogs in another part of the house [away from the big dogs], and they continue enjoying these "nubs" for another 9-24 months. That being said, these "nubs" don't get chewed on daily by the small dogs since they prefer the largest/most intact Nylabones in the house lol. I've tried soooo many other brands of toys from multiple pet stores/other big box retail chains over the years, but these are the only consistent and affordable chew toys I've been able to find over the years..not to mention, all of my dogs LOVE them! The only other toy my dogs have not managed to destroy is their original Kongs, but literally, everything else typically gets destroyed within just a few short minutes-just a few days. For those worried about the dogs chewing off little pieces, that's kind of the point of these bones….why do you think most of them are flavored, lol..?? It's made of nontoxic ingredients that are safe and easily digestible, so I wouldn't worry about that. In my 14+ year tenure of owning dogs (esp. ones that are hardcore chewers w/ super strong jaws), NEVER have any of my dogs, no matter their size/breed, ever had any issues w/ digesting these bones..so fear not, fellow canine lovers! 🙂 Highly recommend ANY of the DuraChew Nylabones, esp. for dogs who are super orally fixated/hardcore chewers!!tboytrey

My boy loves this chew toy! I love this chew toy! They last a really long time, (at least for him) and they hold up really well to all of his shenanigans with it. In the 13 years I've had my dog I've only had to buy 3 of these, and one was bought only because he dropped it into a river while on a boat. It goes everywhere with him. I have tried all sorts of Kongs, smaller nylabones, soccer and rubber balls that my two dogs can't even get their mouths around, and they still find a way to destroy their toys. Anyone who has a power chewer knows that some dogs will chew with the front teeth to find a spot to tear open. Though this particular nylabone is large and expensive, it has held up to both my dogs' chewing for three months now. So far, they haven't chewed either end down, though it can get rough on the edges. No toy is permanent, but if you are looking for a toy that will last, this is one. I've seen reviews where people could not get their dogs to bother with this toy and thus rated them low because they spent the money on them. All I can say is that is not the manufacturer's fault. Some dogs just do not like certain chew toys. These nylabones are blocky and heavy and probably not meant for a small dog or one who doesn't like the weight to carry around. The product description states that it has a chicken flavor. One thing I will point out is that if it does, it does not have an odor that I can smell, unlike many other toys that have flavors infused in them. I'm sure that's a tactic to appeal to the dog more but for mine it doesn't make a difference. I'm just glad I can't smell it.' Good size for a beagle and very popular with him. It isn't that easy to squeak, which is fine by me, but Jasper puts his heart into it and gets enough squeaking out of the bone to make him happy.HoundMom3

I am super happy with this toy. My cocker spaniel loves squeaky toys but always destroys the squeaker part within 5 minutes. She has had this toy for nearly a month and it is all still in one piece! The Squeaker is hidden under the fabric so she can't get her teeth in it, and we haven't had any issue with her pulling the fluff off like others have mentioned. We are very happy to have found this toy, it is her new favourite 🙂Zoe

Took less than 10 minutes for my dog to pull the yellow covering off. When I called Kong, they told me, "It's not a chew toy." What, they think dogs hold toys in their paws to play? Beware, most Kong toys are now labelled "Not a chew toy" which means they are not guaranteed against your dog damaging them with his mouth. The "Kong" name means nothing in terms of quality or guarantee anymore. They sent me coupons for what they said the value of the toy was, which was not nearly what the store charged, when we went to use them, we were told that they were not actual coupons, we had to buy the toy, submit the receipt and the "coupons" in to Kong, who would then mail us a rebate. Seriously??? Not going to spend any of my money on a Kong product again. There are plenty of others of real quality.NoMoreKong

It does the job. It doesn’t always do the best at clumping, so sometimes it means I leave behind unclean litter while scooping. But when it works, it lets me scoop the dirty litter and leave behind the clean. It’s so helpful for not wasting litter.evelyn.k

I bought this for my dog for Christmas and it's the best toy he's ever had. He goes through toys like crazy, they always break and rip and are a danger to him because of small pieces. This toy is super strong and safe for him. I have a pure breed German Shepard fully grown. I take it with us everywhere we go. He never leaves without it. It funs for me and him to play with and it's now starting to tear in the middle but barely. Super strong. Best toy ever for him, I highly recommend this product for extra large and super strong dogs. To say my dog is an "extreme chewer" is a understatement. Fortunately for us he has been focused on his toys/chew toys. He has SUPER STRONG jaws for a lab. I can literally spin him in circles in the air with his jaws locked on a toy. I havent been able to find a toy he doesnt destroy in 5min-1day. He goes through a 8 point buck antler in a month. He is no joke. We tug A LOT too. I actually work out my biceps with this toy and him pulling. Curls:) He LOVES it!! This toy has proven that only Kong brand toys can survive young energetic Kelpies. So far it's survived a whole week of daily tugging and chewing by a doggo that is intensly focused on reducing any toy she gets in her paws to a thousand pieces in as little time as possible.Nick

Our lab is a destructive chewer and had already gnawed right through several toys when Chopper & Otis was recommended to us. The Big Dawg Dumbbell (extra large size) was the first toy we bought, and he was an immediate fan. It is quite heavy, but the rubber bounces multiple times, even when tossed gently. He enjoys playing fetch and tug of war with it in addition to gnawing and pawing at it. It is easy to clean and its surface is appealingly smooth. Definitely recommend for power chewers.Simon

I 10/10 recommend this toy! My 70lb 11 month old pitbull tears through EVERYTHING in minutes. He has NOT been able to make a dent in this toy. I’ve spent hundreds on toys for him and it’s been about two weeks now and I finally found a toy he hasn’t destroyed within minutes.Junie B J

The toy is durable to handle our Bichon Frise puppy’s constant chewing and is the right size for him to carry it around with him. We have been a little dab of organic peanut butter inside the toys and raises the fun factor ten fold. I would highly recommend this toy. We will look into a bigger toy once he grows into an adult. I use this to serve my puppy his Kong Ziggy treats. It helps him grip the treat with his paws. I have not tried stuffing it with gooey things that the manufacturer suggests because I don't want that mess being dragged around the house. However it works fine with the Ziggy treats. By far this has become my pups 2nd favorite toy (her first, as she seems to be taking after her sister who passed away before Paisley even came home, is her Lamb Chop). Within seconds of me opening this from the packaging, she was playing with it WITHOUT anything in it … it is a perfect softness (yet strong enough) to soothe her teething. Then I rubbed some all natural peanut butter in it and LOOK OUT … the minute I grab the toy, she's whimpering with excitement and then spends a good hour concentrating on getting the peanut butter out, loving every minute of it. This would really be beneficial for dogs with separation anxiety or rowdy puppies that you need to calm down if you're in the middle of something. And even greater for teething pups who will latch onto anything (even what they're not supposed to) because it keeps their focus for a long, long time! An instant favorite tug toy for my almost full grown puppy, it just didn’t hold up for very long to his new strong adult teeth. This features a knot and loop on each end for grip while the pup is tugging and a great rubber chew bone in the middle, but it took my dog about 20 minutes before he was pulling white string from the inside of the rope. I was given this item by Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion! Honestly, my dog should be the one to write this review since it’s her toy, but since she can’t type, I’ll have to review this for her! I have a 25lb heeler/pomeranian mix (aka a peeler) who LOVES this toy. This toy combines three of her favorite ways to play: whipping, tugging, and fetching. This is a toy that she enjoys playing with by herself to chew on and thrash around (standerbys beware, the rope hurts when it whips you!), but she also enjoys when I engage her with this toy. We’ve played a lot of tug of war using the convenient loop handles on it, but my favorite part of this toy is that it actually floats in water! My pup absolutely adores swimming, and she really enjoyed getting to play fetch with this toy in the rivers of Tennessee. The knots in this toy do take a little bit of time to dry out, so I recommend leaving this toy in a warm sunny spot after you get it wet so that the rope doesn’t get mildewy on the inside. We’ve had this toy for just over a month now, and it’s still not showing any major signs of wear and tear despite playing with it almost daily. If she had to rate this toy, I think my dog would give it 10 out of 10 paws up!Erin B

This rope felt strong when I first took it out of the package. Dogs instantly loved it, play tug with it, would chase it. Too bad they were able to tear it apart the first night, just tugging. At least the rubber handle in the middle is holding up well.Dan M

The style and size are as stated….I may have overlooked the chewing style, this particular one is extreme chew/hard. I bought for puppies and it is solid. Just make sure to double check, as I was searching for puppy toys…also you can not return online purchase with store pick up. oh well…..they will grow into it.CVes

This brand was recommended to me for my aggressive chewer, and the salesperson at Petco even said she used it for her dog. However, within less than ten minutes of having this toy, my dog destroyed it. She would have eaten chunks off of it if she had gotten the chance.
