I purchased 2 "talking monkeys" for my 6 yr old basset hound Emmy because she liked the "talking ducks" (from Petco.com) so much. There's something about the noise these "recorded sounds" make, that drives her nuts. …but it's a bit annoying for me, lol. The sound can get old quite quickly, especially since he just loves to activate the monkey sounds, which sound nothing like the gorilla it's portraying but is still appealing to most dogs. I have a 90 lb mutt. He's mixed with chow, lab, Australian shepherd, & border collie (I had him DNA tested, which was really fun). He should only be about 65 lbs and is overweight but hasn't chewed up this toy yet. He tends to be "nice" when playing and mouthing his toys, just like when he's playing with other dogs or rough housing with my son. It probably helps that I trained my pup how to be "nice" when he used to accidentally bite my hand when I'd give him treats & say "OW!" So, now when I give him a new toy, I tell him to "play nice" with it. He also doesn't bite a toy to activate the sound or squeaker. He just noses it when it's on the floor. Idk where he got that from, but this toy has lasted about a month so far & is still making screaming, monkey sounds, lol. My Dog loved this toy. He got it in the morning and within a few minutes it was torn to pieces. He is a German Shepherd Husky mix and about 9 months old. He liked the toy a lot, but the toy did not last very long at all. It was torn to pieces in a matter of minutes and totally destroyed by a few hours. Toy does not last for a big chewer. Do not recommend for those that have big chewers. The squeakers in foot and hands were gone first. Then the head. It was easily torn to pieces. There are two ropes that the monkey is made of. Not lasting for big chewer or big puppy. (I saw the chew level after the dog had torn it apart. It is a level 3. )Stacey

Our blue heeler loved this toy! So much that he ripped off the feet one by one and removed the rope from the toys body within 3 days, LOL. Seems like the rope is actually bound together by some kind of electrical tape, so that warrants some extra supervision with this toy. We just recently got our boy from the shelter, so we’re still learning just how much this guy can chew! For the price, it’s pretty fair. If you’ve got a pup who loves to thrash toys around and chew up a storm, might not last very long.Alexa

This cute guy is what dreams are made of! I do want to point out that out of my 3 dogs only 1 of them seems to respond to the squeaker in this toy. I love this little Gator Monkey. The best thing about this toy is not only is it a great size to fit in my dogs mouth but the silence squeak is a fantastic new technology which I have never seen and other dog toys. Hello, first thank you for the great customer support on the Hunter tough toys Gorilla. Your customer support section is top notch which is why you are getting a 4 and not a 3 which is what I think the product should get. The Apa is better than the Gorilla I had originally purchased but the tough toys do not stay really that good together in the big seams. We have had to reinforce ourself the big seam areas. The covered seams are okay. Now others like us have slightly larger puppies, ours is a 9 month old Labradoodle who loves to play and Tug of War being one of his favorite games. The toy cannot be used for Tug of War. We can toss it around and he can just hold it and cuddle with it. It is a toy to play with alone not in groups.John K.
