I love this gate because it's perfect for containing little dogs (mine is 15 lbs.) and it's easy for me to step over. This is the fourth one I've ordered. I just got a new puppy who isn't house trained, AND he tries to run out the front door every chance he gets. After chasing him through the neighborhood three times, I put one of these gates up between my front door and my screen door. Unfortunately the manufacturer does NOT specify the direction of the gate swing…THIS GATE WOULD NOT WORK FOR MY APPLICATION, which is to be hinged on the LEFT and SWING IN to walk UP stairs….it can ONLY be mounted on the RIGHT side. Very inconvenient to get it home…opened and start the installation process before I realized the latch system works one way only. Other baby gates I've had were able to be attached on either side. I had high hopes for this gate as I have two other types of Regalo safety gates setup in other areas of our home, however I was quite disappointed with this particular model. Quality of the actual gate itself was fine, however the mounting plastics just don’t seem sufficient for a safety gate that is going to be used at the top of the stairs. After installation, I did not have the sense of assurance or comfort I was expect; this maybe better suited as a safety gate at the bottom of the stairs. Functionality of the gate operated as I expected it too. The gate did open and close with relative ease and it’s a plus that it’s simple to remove if necessary. As for the Installation, it was much more difficult than I was expecting as the instructions were not very easy to follow. This gate also has many parts to it which makes installation more overwhelming then it should be. It would be nice if the gate came with installation template to make for a quicker installation. Overall, the gate itself seems durable enough with the exception of the plastic hardware that is fasten to the post/or wall (your mileage may vary) however the plastic mounting pieces I feel would benefit from adding some kind of metal insert just to reinforce everything. I just don’t have the same level of comfort securing this gate at the top of the stairs when the mounted hardware is secured with plastic.newhome
I wish this was a positive review but oh my god I hate this gate! Worst thing ever! Do not recommend buying. First- It’s a hassle to put together. Second- It squeaks when you try to open it. Last and most impotant- the amount of times it’s completely popped out of both sides and fallen on me is beyond ridiculous. You need both hands free when opening/closing, which is hard because I have a baby! Hence why we purchased a gate. As soon as I find a different gate, this is going in the trash.Melody

A little pricey for the quality, altho it does seem to do the job and is made of all metal so it can be used outside, so four stars just for price point. Not too hard to assemble and set up, nice and light weight, I did have path way posts that weren’t exactly set parallel, so the gate did work well to be able to offset the closing and locking mechanism. I’m using it to keep two medium-large dogs on the porch. It seems to work well for that. The lock mechanism is a little wonky and cumbersome, but I have it so all I have to do it raise the gate a little and it sets right in the top and bottom holes and stays closed. I wouldn’t use it to keep a curious toddler in one place, especially at the top of the stairs or near the opening to a pool because of that cumbersome lock mechanism, but that’s my opinion. All in all, a decent gate that works sufficiently for what I had intended to use it for.Shelly
I really like the gate . Looks good. I bought them for my deck to keep my Dachshund in. Work good. Should last awhile. Not so easy to open and close. Not in a real bad way but one of them is ….I would call it temperamental. Just doesn't quite want to open or close easily . Yes I would recommend these. I also used the web scanner on the instructions to get You Tube instruction. Very easy to put up. I m 67 and had them both done in about 2 hours. Probably sooner if hadn't stopped to chat with a neighbor .nancy
I bought this gate for a tricky bottom of the stairs installation that required an angle mount. My previous gate (Kidco) had plastic latches but it was the metal bars that ended up breaking after a year of use. This gate has a much smoother operation. Make sure to follow the instructions! I've been looking for a while to find a gate that would fit my space. I have a 66in opening. They all look great then you read the specs. 4 panels that are 28in wide. Well that wont work. I bought this gate to confine my dog in the kitchen which has a large open doorway. It fit well into the space and looked nice. Installation was pretty easy although I had to screw into drywall so if I were keeping the gate I would need to purchase anchors for the screws to ensure stability. For the most part this gate was just what I expected and I was initially happy with my purchase although the door was sometimes difficult to open with one hand. Unfortunately I have an incredibly agile dog and within a day of the gate being up she figured out that she could easily jump right over it. Will be returning the gate since it doesn't fulfill its intended purpose with my dog. I am sure it would work very well for dogs who are not able to jump so high.LuvMyShiba
Seems to be well made and easy to use. But if you stretch it out straight across and you have a wooden floor you will need to put something such as a rubber strip to grip it down. I love this gate, especially for the price! I had to cover an 8 foot area and its perfect. My little one is 1 1/2 and he likes to shake it. Each end is connected into studs so it wiggles but its secure. Both sides have a little slide door, its easy to slide but I prefer to step over. The latch kinda sticks. I also needed a dog door so I actually made one myself with this gate and it was really easy! I know all the dog door long gates are super expensive. I hope this helps!jennifer
We bought this gate for an 89inch entryway between our dining room and living room and it works perfectly. Installation was fast and easy and it has held up to all of my kids banging on it and shaking it and whatever it is that kids typically do. the metal bracket screwed into the gate at the bottom is a little bent from their activity but I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon, bent, but still works perfectly. We don't have any problems opening it and closing it, it might be a little tricky when I am in a hurry but still only takes a few seconds. My 3 1/2 years old did open it once unassisted but he hasn't tried it since, I'd imagine its pretty tricky for most kids especially for the ones younger than 3. We bought this for our 1 year old and I wished I had bought it sooner!! I love that it condenses and swings open both directions, can be opened from either end, and that it would be very easy to put away for when guests come over if need be. These are very high quality durable and useful gates. There are tiny rubber pads under so you know which side to grab after putting away and the ease of the hinges are excellent. They are heavy enough to let the pet know it's stable and it's not a easy move with a nose plus the size and amount of panels make the setting of your area customized to the fit. I actually will buy more so I can use them out on the patio. Our dog understands boundaries and seems satisfied to see us until the entry is opened. I bought one brown which is a nice dark walnut color brown and a white one which both have a nice what I would describe as an enameled type gloss finish for protective wear. This gate is a nightmare to fit tightly enough to hold up to any leaning on it from curious children. Pushing down hard enough to get it in place knocks it out of place during install. The latch to open it sticks, and if I pull too hard I disengage it entirely instead of it remaining in the "remember my preferred width" position. It feels so bendy I worry pushing in hard enough will damage it. It is absolutely not functional as a gate for a determined, walking child. Its one advantage is it's low enough to easily step over and so we barely have to take it out thank goodness, but this would not be an advantage if we needed a proper barrier for a child older than maybe 2? Luckily we just need a gentle reminder they're not supposed to enter or leave that room without us in tow. I’m not sure what product the negative reviews are for (shipping – which shouldn’t even be a review of the product-duh?, flimsy, walls are uneven- seriously?) because it is not this product. I purchased this gate 24 years as a baby gate for my son. And used it constantly over the years for my dogs. I just threw away the 24 year-old gate, because it stopped latching. 24 years!!! I purchased three (3) of the same gate for my new home last month (for the dogs). They are strong gates, I have an Alpha-Female German Shepherd, a Doberman, and a crazy Australian Shepherd You have to push down on the handle, then pull up to unlatch. Not hard- Use a little muscle? Sure. You want that in a sturdy gate. I was looking at this product on here only to find the dimensions (because I didn’t want to get out of bed to measure- it’s 3 am) and saw the negative reviews and thought, “What are you people reviewing – their living room curtains?” I couldn’t stand by and let this happen. Especially when I have purchased this gate so many times. If you are reading this, buy the gate. It’s what you want for dogs or children. I love it! It is super easy to open and close. We installed it so that it is hinged. We are able to open it and swing it up against the wall going up the stairway if we choose to leave it open. It is a great way to block off the stairs. I was surprised at how nice it was for the price. It is a very sturdy gate and even the 6 year old can open and close it easily.Jennifer

We received this gate about a month ago and it's been our saving grace. We have a newly one year old who loves to climb steps. We have stairs with banisters so it was hard to find a gate that would work. This worked like a charm. It was easy enough to install myself. It's with held her shaking it and pushing it. It's easy to get through the gate with my hands full. I love this gate because when opening it, there isn't a bottom piece to trip over like a different brand we use in the kitchen. I was so excited when I first saw this Summer Infant baby gate because it allows banister to banister installation with no drilling required. But I should have measured my stairs first, since the opening downstairs is 48 inch long, 2 inches more than the largest opening of this gate. But my disappointment didn’t last long – we also need a gate for the top of the stairs, and we do have banisters there as well, with an standard size opening, so it does work for us, just not exactly where we intended to place it originally. We want to baby proof our house, but we were also concerned about not damaging our brand new banisters in the process. So this gate is exactly what we needed. I can’t tell for sure it won’t have any damage after long term use (since you do need to install it tight for a secure fit), but I’m pretty sure they will be less noticeable than having to drill anything. The straps go tightly around the banisters and it feels secure. My 11 month old is starting to pull up to stand, so we needed something sturdy. The gate itself is easy to open for an adult, but hard for baby to figure it out (although my toddler figure it out pretty quickly). The entire gate opens, so the door is as large as the opening of your stairs. Instructions are okayish – it’s hard to figure out some of the images, but nothing impossible to assemble. Nice lightweight gate for small dogs. I like that it is shorter than my last gate so it’s easier to step over. When assembling the gate there or no holes in the wood pre-drilled for the feet so you do have to drill the screw into the wood manually which is easy to do because it is a soft material. Love this gate! Looks good, assembles easily, and fits nicely into our uneven doorway. Low enough to easily step-over but high enough to contain a small or medium size dog unless he/she is a jumper. Only free-standing gate I could find with feet that can be placed wherever you want them depending on how much you want it to overlap your walls. Also, feet are shorter than other gates I looked at, making them less of a tripping hazard. The only downside is, it's wood. My dog is an obsessive chewer. Took him about 8 months but he eventually pretty much demolished the feet. We solved that problem by having metal feet made.
This little gate has turned out to be the perfect solution for us and our little Westie. As he aged, we decided to limit his access to the entire house, and we were leaning an old wooden baby gate against the doorway. Each time we passed through, we had to move the gate and more it back and it was banging up the wall, not to mention extremely annoying to do so. We bought 2. They fit where we need them. They keep the dog away from the litter boxes so far. We do not care for the small doors in the gates, though. They swing around when you open and close the main gate. If you have the small door opened in one direction then they hit your shins. In the other direction, they hit the wall or door frame where they are located. So we just removed the little doors altogether (instructions below). Also, we attached a couple of bungee cords to the main gate so that it swings shut on its own since the kids always forget to shut it. OK, maybe I forget sometimes too. Anyway, we're happy now. Our medium/large dog can only stick her head through the small door. My 5-yr-old nephew informed me that his head also fits through the small door. Hopefully the gates just last and don't break down as another reviewer reported…. For anyone who wants to just remove the little doors: Lift the little door up as high as possible on the main gate frame. Use a pair of very thin, precision needle-nosed pliers (I got mine in the jewelry section of a craft store) to reach in and grab the spring-loaded bar as high as possible and pull it down as much as possible. This will not be enough to pop the bar out, though, so you will need to then pull the gate toward you in order to create tension on the bar so it doesn't pop back up. Then remove the pliers and use them to grab the bar at the top again. This time, when you pull down, the bar should pop out from the frame of the main gate and you can then remove the little door. Very easy to install! Works great. We did not screw into the wall, just used the pressure part and it works perfectly. We can open the large gate and we go through with no problems and we leave the smaller pet gate open. We have 2 cats and a brittany spaniel. We needed the gate to keep our brittany spaniel out of the kitchen, but still allow our cats through the gate and this works perfect for that. Our brittany spaniel some how still managed to squeeze through the little pet door so we just tied a tight ribbon in the middle of the small pet door from top to bottom so she can no longer squeeze through yet our other pets can fit through. So keep in mind if you have a medium sized dog like our brittany spaniel they may still be able to squeeze through the small pet door, just tie a ribbon right in the center of the small pet door from the center top to center bottom like we did and they won't be able to.This pet gate works great, wish we had found it sooner!soapnmomof2
Came apart after 2 weeks of use. Cheaply made, looks like small amount of epoxy holding it together when it should have been soldered. First picture is where joint came apart and second one is another joint with a small dot holding it together. Not going to hold up long term. i purchased this gate for our new puppy who weighs 4 pounds.She easily managed to slip through the slats and ran upstairs and wreaked havoc on our house. By the time she is too big to fit through the slats she will probably be big enough to jump over it. It is a shame because this gate is by far the most attractive gate out there. This gate is great for an area where you can’t/don’t want to drill holes. It even comes with fabric straps and pads so it doesn’t scratch up the wood. My husband who is very against making any sort of mark/drilling holes/basically touching the wood said while he was putting it together “whoever invented this is a GENIUS!” Haha! The one con that I have is you have to slide it right to left to open it, it doesn’t just swing open, so it’s more of a two handed operation. We ordered this gate after researching baby gates that would work on wood bannisters. After ordering and having it finally arrive (slow shipping), it unfortunately did not work out for our rounded wood bannisters. Our home is less than 5 years old, so the bannister style is pretty up to date. This gate had a lot of pieces, a little complicated for setup as well. Also the weathered white is more of a greyish/taupe – not exactly as pictured. This company does not honor free returns like most companies do now, which is another reason why this will probably be my last purchase from them.MamaBear56
This gate is ideal for bannister to bannister use. The connection points do not require permanent attachment so your Bannisters are left intact. The way it connects is very easy to manage and extremely sturdy. If you have a bannister on one side and wall on the other this is still a great option, but you do have to screw the gate into the wall side. Not ideal, but an easy repair later down the road. As far as the gate goes, it opens and latches smoothly, hasn't been figured out by my 2yo, and is tall enough to prevent climbing over (for now anyway).
