I'm not a fan of Royal Canin and this does contain maize which I'm not happy about. On the other hand my dog lost over 7 kilos in 4 months = 25% of his obese body weight. The weight gain arose due to an injury and confinement whilst he healed. I now give just a little top-up of Royal Canin Satiety on a regular basis to his normal food so that he feels really full but keeps trim. Overall all this works not only in losing weight but also in keeping weight under control for dogs who need to feel their tums are very full. I soak for 25 minutes in boiling water first, as I do with all dry kibble, and this makes it all swell which also helps digestion etc and removes the possibility of life threatening bloat which any kibble can cause.Elzabeth

I have 5 small dogs, 4 Chiwawas and a Cairne terrier. Though active with a healthy appetite I found they were slowly putting weight on. I used to feed grain free and such but after attending a canine health seminar at my breed nationals, it was talked about that dogs need a more balanced diet and that it does include grains. I had also been avoiding chicken as I had a dog who was allergic but was convinced to try this. They source quality ingredients and they are processed in a way that keeps them quality. Since then, a lot has also come out about grain free high protein causing heart problems in dogs! I switched to Royal Canin in October and my pugs have never looked better! Pugs are not a very active breed and yet the grain free diets kept them too lean for my taste. I also had issues with urinary tract infections and yeast. This food provides a good balance of carbs/protein and I see it reflected in my dogs. Healthy weight, good quality of coat and lots of energy. I feed the large breed blend to my Rottweiler too and get nothing but compliments on her coat. As far as cost, I can get this locally now at Petco as cheap or cheaper than with the online big store! I feed this to my picky Yorkie who eats it well and her coat is the shiniest I've ever seen it after a couple months on this food. We were recently traveling and my large dog went on a hunger strike and refused to eat. I offered her this food to stimulate her appetite and she ate it right up! This by-prescription-only dog food was prescribed as part of her treatment plan by a veterinarian at a leading University of Veterinary Medicine Hospital. A picky eater by nature, Roxy had lost about 25% of her body weight due to her illness and was completely disinterested in food. When her doctor said she needed to go on a strict "veterinary diet", my first thought was, "I bet it tastes like hospital food does to humans." Worried that she would hate it and refuse to eat it, I was thankful, grateful, and genuinely surprised that she LOVED it!! I found this food several years ago. My King Charles Cavalier was having GI upset with every food we tried – even the limited ingredient diets! To make matters worse, she tends to be a little on the picky side as, and often did not eat regularly! When I introduced this food the frequent vomiting/regurgitation ended and she starting eating regularly twice daily! My Yorkie is beyond picky. She will refuse dry food and go on hunger strikes until I give her something else. She was on a raw diet for a while and loved it but started having major digestive issues. Vet recommended this food after all the tests came back clear. I thought she would hate it but she loves it. My Lhasa Apso, Holly, has been eating this food since she was a puppy. She is 14-1/2 years old now. This is the only food she can eat without getting sick. I usually buy the Yorkie breed specific food, but my retailer was out of it. I saw this on the shelf and decided I would try it instead of ordering online or running to different stores. Both dogs love this as much as they do the breed specific! There were no digestion issues with changing the food and the littlest of the 2 (5 pounds) I think enjoys it more since the pieces are even smaller. Since switching to Royal Canin their picky eating stopped and they went from under weight from when I got them to normal weight. They are sturdy dogs with a lot of energy and gorgeous coat's. There is no dog who is a picker eater than my Pixie. She is the most amazing looking Pappillion, (her grandfather, Kirby, won best in Show at Westminster in 1999) weighs 6 1/2 pounds, and spits food out if she dosn't like it. My Yorkie mostly eat fresh chicken, deli turkey etc. But he always have extra small royal canin available for him. He will eat but only when starving. He is very picky and always worrisome about choking as he did choke once. So all his other food is cut up very very tiny. He will only eat if he can see me near by. I fed this to my older dog (now almost 11) for 4 years before he developed a sensitivity to poultry. I have another dog, Mia, now whom I fed the puppy version of this food until she was a year old and she loved it, so naturally we moved up to this food once she hit a year old. With all the worry about grain free foods potentially causing heart issues, we’d tried to switch Mia to a grain-inclusive food but she had diarrhea and vomiting when we tried gradually switching her food that progressively got worse. So we switched back to this food and we won’t try to switch off of it again knowing she cannot process grains! The ingredients are high quality for grain-free and there are no by-products. Mia maintains a healthy weight, soft shiny fur, and hasn’t gotten sick her whole life thus far (15 months old). My older dog also did very well on it until we had to switch him because of poultry, and his fur hasn’t been the same on his new food, very lackluster, but that could be due to his age as well. I’m not sure. All in all I highly recommend this food for small breed adult dogs who have to have grain-free food! I have three little dogs–a Terrier mix, a Poodle, and a Shih Zhu. Feeding the first two is easy. They'll eat just about anything and stay healthy and active.Our little Shih Zhu, however, is another story. Most everything makes her vomit…and when she does, it's not pretty, especially during COVID lockdowns where grooming is often deferred (or happens in my ham-fisted way). She looked and acted pathetic.However, with this food, overnight her vomiting stopped. She seems to have more energy and is less grumpy than before, too. She'll never be a little ball of energy like our Poodle and Terrier–she's really more of a cat than a dog in many ways. Like the small kibble. Easier for my older chihuahua to chew. I like the ingredients. My chihuahua gets upset stomach problems a lot, but so far no problems with this food. He sits at the dish till its gone. Before he would walk each piece of food away from the dish with all the other foods. Its been a week now, but so good so far. I have a lazy chow chow who loves treats and has become more low energy as he's aged. We took him to the vet and they suggested this dog food to help manage his weight. The vet weighed him at 55lbs and wanted him at around 48-50 range. Went out and bought this, used the suggested weight feeding goals on the side of the bag and after about 3-4 months we definitely noticed the difference. His shape is more defined? He's doing good!! And he actually likes the food. Not to mention that he has a sensitive tummy and the issue has decreased dramatically since we started using this. It's a grey product.

I own a 7 year old Golden Retriever. He's starting to slow down, and isn't looking as fit as he used to. He tends to have a sensitive stomach so I have to be careful In researching lower calorie dog foods I've found that many sacrifice protein levels. This food; Hills Science Diet Perfect Weight has 24% protein, 8% fat & 5% fiber. I like these ratio's. I'm doing a slow transition as directed. So far, my dog is doing fine, in fact, he's picking around his old food (Hills Science Diet Large Breed Adult) & eating the Perfect Weight first. I guess he likes the flavor. My only complaint is that the kibble is quite small compared to the old Large Breed food. I've found that my dog eats it too fast & chokes. I've solved that by moistening the food with warm water which softens it. This is why I've given the food 4 stars & not 5. I will report again in a couple months to when my dog is totally transitioned to see if he's losing some weight or not.Irene F

I have a 9 year-old Bichon Frise named Puppers. I rescued him 6 years ago. I tried a few different foods, but they left him with an upset digestive system. I started him on Royal Canin Small Breed Kibble and added a tablespoon of the Beauty wet food and he loves it and has no more digestive problems. I happened onto Maltese food 2 weeks ago (each time I shop at a pet store I always check if it’s been formulated for a Maltese yet). To my surprise I found a small bag at Petsmart. Usually I shop at Petco because my baby girl is styled at Petco in Edwardsville, IL. But, they do not carry Maltese food. So I’ll have to shop between stores. My baby girl, MIA is 2 years old on Nov 2 and I only feed her the best. Vet recommended Royal Canin. She also enjoys a teaspoon of soft food mixed in with dry which my husband calls it ‘gourmet’ because it also goes in the microwave for 4 seconds, stir again. She is very much so catered to. I think it's great that Royal Canin is creating formulas of dog food for specific dog breeds, I feel better about giving my dog something that was essentially made for her. My puppy was delivered about 9 weeks old. Started feeding food I had for puppies. Didn't eat then and on to food breeder had fed first and didn't eat. Went to pet store and they suggested Royal Cannine. I though a little expensive but came home with it. CoCo dived in and began eating. I have since then fed to my 2 1/2 year old Shih Tzu. We started to feed Lukkas with Pedigree (puppy) when he was 3 months old and suddenly we noticed that he is not happy when eating it then we decided to ask a Vet for suggestion and he advised us to have a Holistic Lamb puppy food instead. However, still Lukkas doesn't seem to be happy everytime we serve his food. I've went online and go through some sites to know what's the best food for him because everytime he looks sad, it usually breaks our heart to see him like that. I have read some reviews about Royal Canin and it makes me decide to have it just for a try to see if there will be a change. I bought a 1.5kg Royal Canin for shih Tzu puppy in a mall and when I got home, I tried to feed him a little bit to see his reaction about his new food and we were surprised to see how happy he is. When I was given my Dachshund, he was 6 months old. I took him to establish at a local vet. They provided me a free bag of Science Diet. I then recused a second Dachshund. Years later my personal relationship changed and I relocated due to my work. My fur babies stayed with their loving dad as he worked from home. In 2016, their dad past away. Their grandparents contacted me and I immediately when and got my fur babies. The first thing I noticed was their weight had increased too much. Their dad had changed their diet. The first thing I did was research Science Diet options. That’s where I found Perfect Weight. Following the measure for weight loss, my fur babies weight dropped to their recommended weight. I have a 5 year old Teacup Chihuahua.I had him on a different high end dog food since he was 6 weeks old, without weight trouble until last year. He suddenly doubled his weight. Our vet told us to give him the same daily amount of food, but separate it out to 2 feedings a day instead of allowing him to graze throughout the day. We tried it, but to no avail. Then I discovered this food and thought it was worth a try. He's been on Hill's Science Diet Perfect Weight for 7 weeks and has already lost 2 lbs! Our mix of dogs love this food. They now seem to know when it’s 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM. One dog weighs maybe 40 lbs and 3 others 4lbs to 18 lbs. they all love this food and digest it well. ( a 5th dog gets a low fat variety of the same brand for health reasons.Nana1981

I have fed my dog Royal Canin dry dog food for many years. Several years ago, due to his age, I changed to the Royal Canin Mature minis.
