I got this and have been using it for a few weeks now. There are some pros and cons to this for me personally. First, the pros, it's easy to use for the most part. There is a 24 hour dial on it which you just count how many hours until the next feeding and set it to that. Then set the other side for two feedings from now and set how many hours again for this. It opens up at the time it should with ease. There is no ticking for the countdown and it's quiet. The cons for me would be that it says it fits 3 cups of food, I would say each side is more suited for one cup each. Which is all we needed it for, for our pet so this worked but not sure much more could go into it than that. The other con is, if I were to leave this out for my dog and set it those times, it's so light weight that my dog would have it upside down carried across the house so this would not work for us if we were not home and it was left unattended. I thought the automatic pet feeder would be a great idea for my cats who act like they never get to eat any food. This was my bright idea to give it a try. Their version of the concept of an automatic cat feeder is on a different level. I had this feeder for four weeks now. I have tried everything to get my youngest two to eat from this feeder. They will not go anywhere near it. The middle cat is 4, and my youngest cat is 2. They prefer the old style fashion of their food bowl. They will scream at me until I fill up their bowl – even with this open and full of food … They consider it some kind of trap they won't go near. My oldest cat is a different story. He (his name is Pepper) has figured out how to use his paw and move the dial to get the door to open sooner. When I say sooner, I mean he has learned to paw at it till he gets it to open when he is hungry. I think that defeated the purpose of the timer. I can't say it's a great product to have since my oldest cat learned how to open it, but I can't say it's a bad product since my other two cats want nothing to do with the feeder. Well, it works but not very well. I was excited to get this, thinking we wouldn't have to worry if we didn't get home early enough to feed our Miss Bunny Dog. But now I have to monitor the unit constantly so it doesn't dispense more food than she should have daily. Now I wish I had not purchased it. Likes: Doesn't take up much space. Black so no smudges show. Holds a lot of kibble. Don't have to worry about size of kibble (Bunny is a large American Bulldog). Stainless steel bowl, easy to clean. Holder for bowl so it stays put Dislikes: The stupid thing will not dispense food correctly. I have re-set it multiple times but it continues to dispense food too early or too late or decides to do the "slow" distribution of kibble when I haven't programmed it to do that. So far, so good. My first auto feeder was a PetMate which worked wonderfully for the longest time…until I put the cats on a diet (they are very "plush"). From that point on it became their mission in life to breach the feeder. I put in several counter measures, bungee cords, velcro, super glue, weighted objects and none could correct the feeder's top heavy design. I gave up trying to rig it to thwart the kitties and bought the PetSafe. Love it's squat, low profile resistant to being bulldozed over by the cats (which they did with the PetMate). I love that you can tailor extra small portions, slow feeding and multiple times a day. The old feeder was very limited to feeding times (only 4 I think), so this is a BIG improvement. It more closely mimics how cats like to eat in the wild – small meals spread out over time. What I hate about it: 1) eats batteries. I purchased the A/C adapter but haven't used it yet because of placement issues. There was no low battery warning, like a beep or red flashing light; it just stopped and I only realized after I got waylaid by a mob of hungry cats. 2) The design that makes it tip resistant also makes it bulky and takes up space awkwardly 3) The little itty bitty stainless steel bowl and attachment. It's barely big enough for one big fat cat head, much less three. It was something I never used because I thought it would encourage fighting over food and I worked very hard so they would harmoniously share the same dish. The PetMate had a better design feature in this respect. I looked into the 3-d printed chute attachment, but I'm reluctant because it looks like it is unwieldy and will only work with kick proof ceramic bowls. 4)ish…like others I had my struggles with the programming and the lcd display. It definitely isn't intuitive for me, but after going through it multiple times to adjust feeding schedules, I think I got the hang of it. No more cat stomping on us at 5:00 or 6:00 every morning (whether it's a weekend or not.) No more having to arrange for someone to feed the cat when we go away for the weekend. Honestly, I love this thing. It has changed out life. You set up the feeding times (up to five of them a day) and the amount of food to disperse, and your cat soon learns not to bother YOU when he's hungry, but to go camp out beside his "robot overlord" and wait for the conveyor belt to start up. It's not too difficult to program either; the instructions are a bit complex, but laid out pretty well in the manual. (There are a few quirks: be aware when you're setting times that that noon is 12:00 am on the keypad. Also, you'll find that it gradually gains time, so that after a month or two the feedings are coming a few minutes earlier that they started; no problem, just reset the time on the clock.) Also, the sound of the food hitting the little metal dish (we call it the "dinner bell") is a little loud, so if it's near your bedroom you might want to put a silicon pad in the bottom of the bowl. The good-sized hopper holds weeks worth of food, and has so far confounded the best efforts of a well-motivated tomcat. It's a bit pricey, but not out of line with other autofeeders I looked at. I bought this automatic feeder for our cat to allow her biscuits whilst we are either later at work or out for the day. It is battery AA run. The timer is not time related but hourly, so you set it to open anything from 1 hour to 48 hours. You can put wet food in as the product comes with a gelice pack but we have only put biscuits in.Th only downside is our cat is managing to get the feeder open slightly before the set time. Good product at a fair price.Product works well. The timer is not all that accurate but for most people it does not matter if the feeder opens 10 minutes later than expected. We have 3 cats and so it is preferable that all 3 feeders open at, more or less, the same time. That said we left our 3 cats overnight with 6 feeders, 3 to open in the evening and 3 to open in the morning. On our return all 6 feeders were open, the food was gone and our cats seemed to be okay.

Our cat loves to sing us the song of her people at 6am as encouragement to get up and FEED the cat. As you can imagine every morning at 6am sharp as if she has her very own kitty alarm clock set..we hear "Meow" followed by "Meow" and this process continues for a good 45 minutes. I purchased this unit a few weeks ago before a weekend trip away. I got it several days before my scheduled trip and it seemed to work well and I think it worked while I was away, but today I'm not sure. I have had this feeder now for about 2 years, for use when away on vacation. It has worked well until recently, but later realized new batteries were needed. Now,working perfect again. Luckily they only missed 2 meals by our return. Small problem: We have 2 cats and as kittens, it was great as they could share the one device for 5 days. And having two devices, could set one for AM feeding and the other for PM. Now that they are older, bigger and will finish the others food – they each need their own – limiting the number of timed portion controlled feedings it will provide. Way too expensive for what it is, but I have to have it because I travel and my husband has dementia. He can't remember to feed the animals, very inconsistent. This has camera, but it's useless. Camera needs to look at bowl, not at my house, and also needs motion detection so I know if dog (or cat) ate their food, so I can give directions further to husband. Sometimes unit feeds in the middle of the night off schedule. Not sure why, so need to be able to know when this happens to remove the food and feed at regular time manually or stop feeding if puppy doesnt eat. Three of these have broken in less than a year! I don’t understand why they malfunction and stop working. It will play the recording telling my poor dog to come and eat and then not dispense any food and I will just see EEEE on the screen! Bad thing is that since it is playing the recording I was thinking my dog was eating until I was standing in the kitchen next to it and I did not hear the food dropping this morning. This is the third time in less than a year that this has happened!! It’s very sad and scary to think that when you are not home and you are thinking your dog is eating because you invested in this machine, and then it does not feed your dog. Ive been extremely pleased with these automatic pet feeders. As other reviewers mentioned, the sound recording feature does not work (or at least did not on mine), so if thats something youre dead-set on having then this listing is probably not for you. Other than that, this item works wonderfully. It dispenses food at the pre-programmed times and seems to dole out roughly the same amount each time. Programming the machine is relatively simple and painless if you can spare 10 minutes to read the instructions and maybe do some quick math to calculate portion sizes. I bought two of these, one for each of my cats, and I set the time on the second one so it dispenses ~15 seconds after the first this way, my more voracious kitty is already busy eating and the second cat gets to eat her food at a calmer pace without intrusions. I would recommend these feeders as a great option for anyone who doesnt want to spend $100+ on a pet feeder but also doesnt want to be woken up at 5am by a hungry kitty pawing at their face. 😉av3maria
I bought this feeder in September of 2020. I thought it would be a nice way to dispense a small amount of food at a time throughout the day and to have when we were gone for a weekend. It was great for about six months. I had no problem programming it, and it worked as it said it would. However, about six months after I got it, it would occasionally stop working and give an error message. It was easy to reset by turning it off and back on. It was just occasional, and I read it was because the food was stuck in it (although that never seemed to be the case because turning it off and on always reset it). But now it is giving the error message at least once a day, if not more. I’m constantly checking it and resetting it. I’m essentially feeding my cats every time I do this because I don’t know when they last got food. This thing was not cheap, and a year later it basically doesn’t work at all anymore. I’m annoyed that I have to find another one. If someone has a suggestion for a good feeder that I don’t have to replace after a year, please let me know.Steviesmom2020

I recently replaced my old Petmate LeBistro. It's digital programming did not survive 10 years of storage in an unheated garage. I really appreciate the convenience of an automated feeder for a cat, and the Le Bistro works very well. That said, I prefer the size and construction of the old version. The new version is larger and not as sturdy. I purchased the 5-lb size but only the food hopper is smaller. The hopper/motor unit just sits on top of the food bowl ring – there is nothing to keep it in place. The first time I picked up the assembled unit, it fell apart. The hopper lid is difficult to open. My old LeBistro had none of these issues. Please return to the older design – at least for a cat.B Linde
We bought our first Aspen pet feeder almost 3 years ago. It sits on top of a 24" high table under the gazebo. This is Texas so we have a lot of high humidity. We leave it out to feed our cat. Sometimes we are gone for 2 or 3 weeks and the feeder never fails to perform. It is actually made for inside the house. For it to hold up outside with the high humidity, the violent thunderstorms spraying rain ever direction, and even getting knocked over and falling 3' on two occasions, I am definitely impressed. I'm especially impressed that it held up under these conditions for almost three years. Something finally went wrong in the brain so we replaced it with a new feeder. The new version of this feeder is awesome! They have enlarged the feed tray and made it hook more securely into the base. It now has a detachable base which elevates the entire unit and keeps residual moisture away from the batteries. And they have added a spacer tray inside the hopper which keeps the pressure of the food away from the feeder door. These are three great improvements that solved any minor issues we ever had. There is nothing else I can think of that needs to be done to improve it. We were totally satisfied with our first Aspen feeder and this one is a great improvement over the old one. Our 1.5 yr old golden retriever has food anticipation issues, such that around 5 AM, he would vomit up a bit of bile. As every dog owner knows, there is no better alarm clock than your dog vomiting in the middle of the night. Our pup was put on a low dose of acid reducer, but this only helped for a while. We thought, what if we could feed him just a small portion in the middle of the night? The problem, another golden retriever pup that we affectionately call "Kobayashi". To avoid Kobayashi eating our other dog's food, we bought two of these. Now both dogs get fed around 3 AM, without much problem. They even figured out that going to the other's dish results in its closure, so we are no longer listening to the feeder doors at 3 AM (which can be a bit annoying). Moral of the story, our pup is no longer on acid reducing medication, AND he has not vomited overnight since. We do have 3 issues: 1. The feeder has a minimum number (2) of feedings for dogs, therefore, the feeder actually dispenses part of their overnight snack at least 1 hr prior to dispensing the other half. It would be helpful if you could set the number of meals dispensed to one. 2. The feeder lights up the screen and provides an Err 03 code when a dog has not visited it for more than 16 hr. It would be helpful to have a more descriptive error symbol, AND this feature should be able to be turned on/off. 3. It would be useful to have a mobile app and connectivity to the feeders through a wireless network, so that changes could be done through the app, AND so that notifications could be sent about the feeder (e.g., when food was dispensed, how much, when was it visited, etc.) Overall, we are pleased with the feeders, and they function exactly as described. However, make sure to purchase any extra tags AND extra dog bowls (if you would like to rotate them while you wash the previously used ones) at the SAME TIME you purchase the feeder(s). This is a good quality product; however, it is way overpriced for the value. My son and I have two cats; one likes to nibble every now and then and the other loves to break into wherever food may be and eat until he is sick. In my opinion the cost of these feeders is outrageous and I consider it to be price gouging. I did contact the company to see if I could get a decent discount because I had to purchase two, but they wouldn't give me one. I ended up spending over $400 for two feeders so that my cats can get fed properly. The tags are quite heavy and bulky and with the overeater cat it clunks loudly on the dish when he is eating. My little girl kitty doesn't clunk her tag when she eats but it does seem cumbersome for her to wear because she is much smaller than my other cat who can handle the extra weight. I had my son set the feeders to stay open unless the wrong kitty comes to close to the wrong feeder and that seems to be working well. When I first got these the noise from the motor when the dish opens would scare my little girl and she would run away and not eat. My male kitty would get startled, but once he figured out there was food there he took right to it. He likes to try to fool my little girl's dish into giving him food but has almost figured out that it will never happen. I have an island in my kitchen and have put one on either side of the ends of it and that is working well. My little girl has become less stressed about eating now that she knows she can eat anytime she wants too without my little boy kicking her out of her dish and he is now getting down to a manageable weight so he is healthier. If I didn't have an urgent need to purchase these and they were both nibblers, I would have gone with a different auto feeder because of the price. I have two cats that I fed 4 times a day equalling 1/2 cup of food. They have never gotten along and are territorial over the upstairs and downstairs of the house and are both food driven. One has severe anxiety, the other is overweight, and both can be very aggressive with each other. I got these feeders 5 days ago. The cat with anxiety needed 2 days to adjust to the collar and the sound of the food bowl. Day 2, I decided to switch the mode for her to leave the door open so she didnt freak out so much about the noise of the door opening and closing. It made a huge difference in calming her about the noise. She used to step back when the other cat would come eat her food and in less than 5 days she had calmed down from the noise realizing that the door closes when the other cat comes and is calmer knowing the food is still there. Once she realized the other cat can not touch her food her anxiety disappeared about the noise from the door opening and closing and both cats are better about being together on each level of the house. It seems much anxiety was created around food and I feel as though I now have two new cats because they are acting so different towards each other. I have not been woken up by either cat for a feeding all week. Another blessing! Now the cat that is overweight is getting the exact measure of food she needs and there is no stress over who fed the cats, which one got the most or least food, and if they were over fed. The feeder in these pictures is now 10 years old, and has evolved step by step in response to determined raccoon attacks. The double paving-stone base was to prevent the banzai-style attacks of multiple raccoons trying to topple the device. The second picture documents the chewed-up wooden shield to protect the discharge port of the feeder. It is truly ugly, but has worked for years. On multiple occasions, prior tot this, they got into the mechanism and ripped out the wire that bounces the discharge plate. The second hopper was added this spring, and gives 10 days of a 45-second dispense, three times a day. There has not been any problem feeding Purina Complete cat food. On another note, I tried for some years to put a waterproof timer on this structure to set up the feeding times. I finally gave up. Digital timers invariably get moisture in them causing failure, and the mechanical ones are, basically, junk. So the wire now leads through a hole in the garage, tied to a digital timer with attached power supply. It stays bone dry, and has been bulletproof. I have had the unit in use for a week or so. It was easy to set up. I like that the hopper part is solidly connected together. I have the occasional raccoon and they are unable to break in. I have it scheduled so there is nothing in it at night. I had to make a metal stirrup attached to the wall to keep little raccoon hands from tipping it over. It does a good job but it dispenses a good bit more than the settings indicate. You'll need to play with this to find your desired amount. Only other nit is that the food slides down a ramp into the bowl, but the ramp isn't really steep enough for all the food to reach the bowl. I have 3 cats and 1 gets different food that the other 2 cannot eat, but love. I would have to put his food away constantly and bring it out so he could eat. It really didn’t take long for him to figure out how to use it and it’s worth what i paid for. It’s aesthetically not appealing but it gets the job done, also bigger than what i thought it was haha.
