Ball is made of a very durable and hard rubber. The one I bought is bigger than a tennis ball, but my 65lb goldador-newfie pup can hold it in her mouth easily. She enjoys playing fetch with it or catching it when it bounces high in the air. I also like that there is a rather big hole on the side that I use to throw the ball to avoid all the drool or whatever nastiness is on the ground of the dog park. Because it is hard rubber it gets a lot of bounce. I also like to fling it against a concrete wall and it just bounces all over the place. My previous dog chewed everything and successfully destroyed everything, EXCEPT the Kong Ball. He never was able to even make a mark. We have a new dog who also likes to eat everything but again has failed to damage it in any way. It has a great bounce to it and she loves it. Env: development I have two dogs that love all things ball shaped – tennis balls, soccer balls, basketballs, etc. The only problem with their ball obsession is that they destroy them. Sometimes in minutes. Tennis balls are cheap enough to replace, but they can wear on their teeth and cause damage. Other balls pose a choking or obstruction hazard because the dogs will tear them into pieces and potentially swallow them. I started to feel like I was running out of safe options to satisfy their obsession and then I discovered the Kong Ball. I picked one up for the dogs one day when I saw them at the local feed store. It was a little pricey, but I figured, if it was as durable as it claimed, it'd pay off in the long run. And it has. It's been 8 months, and while the ball shows a little wear and tear, it's still in one piece, and the dogs have great fun with it. The only con is that it's not very bouncy, and it's a little too heavy for playing fetch with, but if you roll it for them to chase that seems to satisfy them. Definitely worth the money! I cannot rave about this brush ENOUGH! I have a Pug, so as any pug owner can tell you, THEY SHED, and they shed like a big dog would. This brush is incredible for any short haired doggy. When you use it, brush in a circular motion and you can just watch all the loose hairs come up. I was shocked the first time I used this because the amount of hair that it picks up and takes off is nuts. I had been using a regular brush at first for short haired dogs, now I combine the two. I start off with this to loosen the hair, and follow with the regular brush to pick up anything that comes off. This is a miracle brush. OK, I have been humbled. I see you did post my review I wrote last week, where I gave this item only two stars. Well, my dog kept bringing it to me, so I did put in some snacks. They did have to be bigger, so they wouldn't fall out of the big hole all at once. My dog had so much fun with the holder and we use this every morning at 10:30, which is her "treat" time. If you have a small breed, this is the Kong to get. It is a little softer than the regular Kong, so it makes it easier for a small breed to get to the yummies. We have a 12 lb. chihuahua mix and she would give up with the red Kong but this one keeps her occupied – frozen apple with some peanut butter or frozen green beans with a little peanut butter – a "pupsicle" that keeps her occupied doing a natural dog behavior.Walktadawg

My female lab, Grace, and her boyfriend lab, John Henry are tough on toys. He actually ate a Kong toy! Every Saturday afternoon while the neighborhood kids play baseball, I play ball with the dogs. I use the launcher, of course, because they play all day. We have a pile of unharmed chuck-it balls. The only ones I even buy anymore. We even have some glow-in-the-dark. First off, if you don't have a chuck-it and you have a fetch loving pooch, stop what you are doing and buy one. This is not a drill! Chuck-its are awesome and have saved my shoulder from endless games of fetch. On to the ball: perfect! They are made of rubber so are kind of squishy/have some give. Nice to throw indoors against a wall as well as outside. Has 4 holes: two for whistling that don't go all the way through the ball and two that do go all the way through to allow your dog to breathe a little with the ball in their mouth. They fit perfectly in the large chuck-it launcher and have a slight whistling sound. It kind of imitates a fluttering bird tweeting. My dog personally couldn't care less about the sound. She just wants the ball. Has held up to over 30 fetch sessions in the few weeks I've had it. Holds up in snow and is fairly visible on grass. Cannot attest to how it does in sun. For reference, I have a 50 lb German short haired pointer who is obsessed with fetch and a moderate chewer.A.

We love our chuckit balls and use the orange ones all the time at the park. Our dog likes this one too. Unfortunately this ball does not float in pools so we’ve lost it a million times not realizing it fell into our pool. The blue color makes it hard to spot too. My dog also doesn’t seem more inclined to use a ball that whistles than a regular ball but could be exciting to other dogs.triana.z

I have faith in your Kong products! We had a lot of dog toys that were not Kong products. My son came home an spent a month here with his 6 month old lab mix puppy and our two small dogs. Great dog toy. Easily visible as it's bright orange, floats in water which is a godsend as my dog loves water and taking his toy in there also the rope means I don't need to carry a ball flinger. My dog loves this toy at the beach as we can throw it so far into the ocean using the rope. He also has the best time playing tug with it although the rope has started to fray after one use (assuming it's not designed for tug so still a five star product in my opinion) He actually played with it when one of his friends at the beach brought it and he's been obsessed ever since so we had to get him his own! It's a great toy but my black lab is so strong he bites through even the toughest and stones of all these toys. Things you would not think a dog could chew through, made of the toughest material, my lab will destroy it within an hour if not minutes. He's a sweet dog and very gentle with people. He's just very rough on his toys. So funny but he costs me a lot of money. I don't think there's anything out there that is tough enough for him to play with that is indestructiblediana.t

The tentacles of this toy came off almost immediately. It took a bit longer for the ropes to come of which then revealed a squeaky ball which my dog loves. The other pieces did end up making a mess around the house while providing a reasonable amount of chew time. The ball is totally worth it as it is his favorite fetch toy now.ChewyDog75

I have a 13 week old lab she’s in her chewing stage. Bought this because Kong is supposed to be the aggressive toy to buy for puppies. She’s 15lbs and I bought her the large one. Within 30 minutes of playing with it the top was ripped and I had to take the squeaker out. I have now cut the top off so it’s just a rope toy with legs. Will not buy again.KitKat918

This toy that we call our DNA toy has been a favorite through several dogs. It finally gave out and I was so relieved to find it at Petmate. For reasons I cannot explain, my two powerful chewers don’t try to destroy the DNA. They carry it around and bring it to us so that will pull on one end.Karen B

My 2yr old rescue dog loves his CUZ person? He needs a new one after chewing on his old one that is over 10years old. Still good but squeaker coming apart. I guess we have the large one. We recently bought 2 of these and before we even got the tags off to give to our dogs we realized both toys had defective speakers! The didn't sweak at all and normally they have a very loud unpleasant sweak that my dogs adore! Maybe a bad batch? Idk. The other thing I dog love is although cute.. The horns and feet are the first things to get chewed off! If you dog like to chew toys.. Don't get this. My dog chewed off the feet once and had to have surgery to get the blockade removed (our fault for not supervising, knowing he's a chewed.. This didn't effect my rating) But parents be aware that if your dog is a heavy chewer the feet and horns are easily chewed off. I would recommend Plant Dog balls for intense chewers.cassandramaegan

I wanted to really love this toy. It's actually the second time I bought it…but only out of desperation because it lasted longer than all the other toys my dog has destroyed. I don't have a big dog but he's a determined chewer and can destroy ANYTHING but a Kong. He's a 1 yr old lab/maybe husky/maybe retriever/viszla mix (we think). He LOVED LOVED LOVED this toy but chewed the rope off straight out of the gate. He used that weakness to find a spot to tear in the fabric and reveal the rubber and it was over from there. To be fair if you're using this the right way (for fetch instead of it ending up as a chew toy) it will likely last much, much longer. A friend of ours got out dog just the bumper part of this combo and it has been huge it. It received serious work every day at the beach, and as you can see from my photos even had some group play with several other big dogs. Seemed reasonably durable. I have a German shepherd who loves the pool. We live in a desert, so it's a great way to keep him active in the summer. Previously, I would use the orange Chuckit! balls for pool play because they are very durable and they're his absolute favorite, but he would have to bob a lot to grasp them which left him snorting up a lot of chlorine water. I found this product and felt it would be much easier for him to snag from the water. After two hours of play it held up pretty well. But I am worried it won't last long. He loved it, and had a blast fetching it over and over but he clamps down pretty hard when grabbing it. With his large teeth and strong bite, it made a lot of popping sounds as he would swim it back to the steps and readjust his hold on it. He punctured it quite a bit, but it hasn't fallen apart yet. Some of the stitching is coming undone on the blue ends and they are very weak. It may last longer if you can sew. When he gets it out of the water he does squeeze it as if trying to squeak it, but he's good at stopping when I tell him to. It probably wouldn't last an hour if I let him chew it and he's not even one to destroy toys. There's only been a few toys that have broken from him playing and it's almost always because his teeth puncture it and the stuffing starts falling out. Once this happens our golden retriever will take it and rip it to pieces. This one he is not allowed to have without supervision and only in the pool because it definitely won't last. Our golden actually hates the water, so we don't have to worry about her tearing it up. If you have a dog with a strong bite, or one that loves to chew, I'm not confident this will hold up very well. But I still really like it and it makes a great water toy. It's bright, and floats well. It was easy for my shepherd to grab onto without losing it. He loved it and wasn't very happy I took it from him when we headed back inside. If this one falls apart too soon, I may have to find a more durable pool toy. My camera was dead, but I managed to get some pictures from my phone. I included some photos after coming back inside showing the punctures and the broken stitching on one end after 2 hours of play and limited chewing. The damage was mostly from him just grabbing it from the water as I did not let him chew it outside the water for very long. Update 5/22 – added some photos after about 6 more hours of use. It fell apart around the tag and the inside ended up slipping right out. My shepherd ended up still fetching just the inside. I'm sad that it fell apart so quickly and will have to find something that won't unravel with such a short time of play.F.N.

Our labradoodle LOVED the toy, but it quickly became apparent that this could only be used with active play, and he couldn't be left to "snuggle" with it, as it would not hold up to his chewing. Despite limiting his contact with it, this toy lasted a day, and he ate one of the nylon pieces that are doubled-over and sewn onto the ends. I was anticipating the rope part being torn apart, but not that, as I thought the seams were all reinforced. Definitely not a toy for a rough player.YogiMom2

I bought this tugging/chewing toy for our new English Springer spaniel puppy two months ago. It’s become one of our favorite toys to play together. Jackie loves the center portion to chew, and I really like it when we’re playing a soft game of tug-a-war. It’s one of the few toys where I don’t get a slight nip from her teeth as we’re tugging because I can hold onto one end of the multiple ends. I also like it to toss across the room, and she fetches it. When this one finally wears out, I’m sure I will buy a replacement one.PupMom5

I purchased this specific toy a few weeks ago and it is already one of our 9 month old puppy's favorite. She loves exercising her teeth as well as fetching the toy. It is also a fun tug of war toy if your dog likes to do that sort of interaction with you. You will find that this toy is very entertaining for your dog. I got our first ball second hand, through a family friend. My dog absolutely loved it, but it was a bit too big for him. I got my puppy (now 1.5 yrs) a small and medium ball to see which size would be better. The medium is the perfect one! He enjoys playing with it every day! He loves it. It's his outdoor toy. He would go all day if we let him. We've had it for about 3 years now and it's pretty sun faded and has plenty of teeth marks in it. Also started developing a crack on the one hole, but otherwise its been incredibly durable. My partner can kick it hard across the yard in steel toes and it hasn't broken yet (that's probably what the crack is from). It has caused his gums to bleed a handful of times so maybe beware of that just because of the hard plastic if your pup is a tough chewer/biter, but otherwise my dog would literally kill for this toy. I read these other reviews where the dogs go wild for the toy! I have three dogs at home, and none were interested in this toy. They were excited until I threw the ball on the ground. They all took turns pawing at it, and within 45 seconds the dogs were playing with the old toys. The toy itself is built well. The plastic outer ball seems chew-resistant and the inner ball seems sturdy. There is no issue with the toy itself, but my dogs did not fit the status quo in enjoying this selection.KatieMD

A little disappointed that it's not as crackly as I'd have expected. I have played with far more crackly dog toys and this one you really have to press into to hear and feel it. I have a toy cavoodle and balls are her favourite. On top of that, she loves anything that squeeks or crackles. I was expecting this to become her new favourite but while she loves that it's bouncy and she can basically play fetch with it herself, the crackling part of it isn't that much of a factor. It ripped open down the seam the first time we used it. We were just playin fetch- I didn't let the dog sit and chew it, but she could destroy it if I let her. My dog liked it right away. I am not sure about durability because he has only had it a few days. It is dirty from being outside but it keeps him entertained. Great water and land ball. Foam ball and rope is indestructible for a medium to hard core chewer, we have a Smooth Haired Fox Terrier. The yellow tape requires reinforcing from time to time to prevent rope fraying and it gets chewed. Large size is perfect for our dog and we have previously bought this product. We only loose them in strong water currents, hence we keep replacing them! Our dog knows it's swim time when the yellow ball comes out!Desiree C

My Boston Pennie is an aggreessive chewer !! She can DESTROY the SQUEAKER in any ball in three to four minutes . as of today the squeaker is still working . Disney is a Bloodhound that thinks he is a Golden retriever. He always wants to have a ball or toy in his mouth. Disney loves that this ball is bouncy, has a great squeaker inside and is infused with mint oil. Disney loves the unique feel of this toy when he holds it in his mouth. I am happy that this toy is FDA-compliant, BPA-free, recyclable, and is made in the USA. Disney also loves to watch the way it bounces. I am so grateful that I found this toy for my boy. I got this for Boomer, a dog I work with in my rescue, he is such a character and he loves balls! I take a lot of photos of him and knew one day it would turn the right way and be funny ?? These balls are well made and very durable and last even the roughest of pups. They are a little on the pricier side but you get what you pay for. I would love to see it in smaller sizes for smaller dogs but I would definitely consider purchasing morekaidence.m

I love West Paw products and buy them all the time for my dogs and work in the veterinary field so I love to recommend them to clients. Unfortunately, this toy was unusually flimsy and my puppy (who isn't even my strongest chewer) had it in a million pieces in minutes. My German Shepherd x Malinois LOVES these balls the most. I bought several different styles to trial with her, as she is very fussy when it comes to her toys. She doesn't like the Kong frisbees which are too heavy and don't give her time to fly into the air to catch them – they plop to the ground too quickly, unlike our plastic ones which are brilliant at flying, but wear out more quickly – can't win! But the Kong balls on the other hand, we find are terrific. This is my third time buying these, only because we lost one and she won't let go of the one I bought her last week, so I am hoping that with another one, she'll learn to let go and stop being such a ball hog. She has baby Velociraptor teeth, so her will usually destroy all toys over time (some quicker than others) even though she's not a destructive dog by nature – just in terms of general wear-and-tear from chewing and play, but these balls for some reason, do last (the squeaker in them doesn't though – it's dead in a day, thank goodness, as it does drive me nuts when she's biting on it all day long and it's squeaking the heck out of the house – so that's actually a plus for her human hahaha). I think depending on the dog, you'll find different reviews, but this product is definitely a winner in our household at least and though a bit pricey for what it is, it's still the better option compared to others we've trialed.Jo

This toy is the BEST THING EVER. I didn’t know it squeaked until after we started playing with it and OH BOY we have had loads of fun with it ever since. My dogs love this ball so much that I’m getting another one because they constantly fight over it! It’s a great ball for fetch as well as a great chew toy. I’ve had it for quite a few months now and it’s still in REALLY GOOD condition. I don’t usually write reviews but this product is 10/10. I bought one of these (in a size large, not sure if the sizing has anything to do with the issue) about 4 months ago and it has lasted really really well! The only reason I decided to replace it was because for some reason the squeaker stopped working. I think my dog may have punctured a hole in it or something. That being said, I didn't have any issues that these other negative reviews have said happened to them and my dog destroys EVERYTHING. He gets his little mouth on a seam or a defect or anything like that and he goes to town until it is in pieces in minutes. So, like I said the large ball lasted 4 months.. but I just bought him an XL ball and received it today. It's been… about 4 hours now and he has almost completely torn the middle out of the ball! I think this must be a manufacturing issue more than anything because our other ball has treated us well. I hope this problem gets fixed, because I really LOVE this ball!Jenni0126
