Extra Large Dog Life Jacket For Sale (2024 Update)

I bought a large for a Golden doodle, thinking that there are many breeds larger than him so he certainly couldn’t be an XL. So, the front fits perfect. That being said, the stomach Velcro barely reaches. if I put the front as loose as possible without the Velcro even touching the back stomach velcro will then barely touch, but the back stomach straps are at least three inches loose. The front stomach straps fit decently, but the Velcro won’t touch. I feel like my dog is within standard dimensions, and although this jacket is capable of hoisting him if necessary it is NOT a secure reliable fit.Shanelle

My mixed breed dog and I go kayaking down the river a lot. He loves to jump off and swim around and sometimes he does fall off. I wanted this for ease of pulling him back onto the boat. He fit the measurements for a med. I put it on him and it was way too large on him. He also wouldnt be able to p because the belly pad went to his back legs. Great idea with the handles and the pockets in the sides. I will see if the store can get in a small size for me to try on him.Tree

This vest was perfect for our aging yellow lab when she wanted to swim all day on our recent family vacation on the lake. At 13 years old this vest gave out dog enough help to swim for hours. The large vest fit our 72 pound yellow lab well and she seemed to enjoy wearing the vest. Appears to be durable but of course swimming doesn't put a lot of wear on it. Very buoyant, dries pretty quickly, and not restrictive at all. Our pup walks around like it’s her normal harness, and it keeps her afloat no issue. The neck part is a bit bulky, but her head stays well above water when swimming, so there’s no downside!Sasha

This is light weight and fully adjustable. Well made with mesh undercarriage and ample Velcro to stabilize fit. Handle on top to lift or guide. Leash aperature. As a life preserver for sure, as I bought this to help stabilize my Beagle' s back and try to preserve her life. She has degenerative disc disease. I put it on her before we go out so she has better control of her legs, and does not flop down. She is improving with steroids, but needed extra help. I have only had this a day, but it makes a great difference. She likes it being on. There are no rough edges. Limited funds prohibited a back brace for dogs. This works as well at a fraction of the cost. Highly recommend for a life preserver, we are also occasionally on boat, or as a brace.fireflywishes

I love this vest! My dog has some neurological issues so his balance isn't the best but LOVES to swim. This vest does very well in keeping him afloat and right side up! I ordered an XL since his measurments and weight but the back end seems to be just a tiny but to long. Not really an issue for us though. The handles on the jacket are probably my favorite part. I was so excited to purchase the Surf ‘n’ Turf for my 33lb. Mini Australian Shepherd and went with the medium. It was too big all around, even though his measurements were included in the sizing. I returned it and purchased a small (Kurgo doesn’t do exchanges…argh). His measurements also fell into the small range. Not a chance – the small was way too small. I bought this for Luke and wow…it has certainly proved to be a great vest so far. I was initially looking for a two handled vest. Getting a 175 lb. Newfoundland dog back into a boat if he's gone overboard is tough with only one handle. This vest has many great features, two handles, leash clip, tucked in straps, wonderful fit, easy to clean, float material can be removed so this can be used as a safety vest during hunting season…he has been mistaken for a bear on many occasions. We are on a boat out in the ocean most of the time during the season and we all need safety vests. Excellent! And he is comfortable enough in it to hike or snooze. Great company, too!Linda 68

This runs very small. I bought the signs that recommended for a 10-lb dog, and also the next bigger size just in case. The recommended size was entirely too small. The next size up fits my dog well, although it seems to have something pokey that bothers her tummy when she wears it. I'm going to have to look and see if there is a piece of stitching poking her. Other than that it is a very good quality, well made, and will definitely keep her from drowning if she falls off my kayak. Walmart had the best price anywhere! This life vest appears to be really well-made. The materials used and construction are excellent. There are numerous safety features, e.g., Velco closings PLUS clips PLUS stops on the clip straps to ensure they don't over-loosen. I've never seen such attention to detail in an animal product. The front neck & head support is so thoughtful and just too cute for words. Also, I love the top handle so much I'm tempted to have my puppy wear his every day. We haven't tried it in the pool yet, but I am very impressed to find such a quality product at this price.Kimander

We bought the extra large floatation vest for outlr wielerdane and before using this he didnt like water and was worried when swimming but now we xant get him out! He pushes himself off the bank and floats away. The vest is light weight, easy to use and clean. As with other products I have ordered from D For Dog, the life jacket arrived quickly. It took a while to use, finally put it through it's paces on a staycation in Cornwall. My dog is 4kg and 12 years old, never been confident around water however, he has been showing an interest lately. It kept him bobbing around and gave him that little bit more confidence to swim. We did use it with an extendable lead to stop him being washed away. In terms of fit, I thought it would be too bulky, apparently not, he run around on the beach no problems at all.Linda

After watching video reviews of the top brands, we chose this Ruffwear PFD for our Golden Retriever. We are happy with the purchase, except for one thing that is very important to us. The clip ring on the top of the jacket, under the handle is made of plastic instead of metal. Since we use this on a boat and need to clip her to a lifeline, this flimsy plastic clip ring is totally inadequate. The ring on the photo on the stock photo on the Moosejaw site looks beefier than what we got. See attached pic. We'll replace it with a more substantial stainless hook or clip. Other than that, great jacket. Would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the thin plastic clip. Concerning Moosejaw, great company as always. They get 5 stars!Scott

We absolutely love this life jacket! We used a cheap one last year while our pup was growing, but now that he's fully grown we wanted something that will last. This jacket is super functional and really easy for our pup to get on and off. It gives him so much confidence swimming and he goes in on his own now and will swim around past where he can stand all by himself, without needing someone in the water. We love this jacket so much. It's really durable, but not too bulky or heavy. The quality is 10/10. The grab handle is a must and it's nice and strong so it can actually be used if needed. I posted a 3 star review two days ago about the float coat. The lack of a five star review was due to what I assumed was a sizing issue. My dog is a medium, however, the girth straps on the medium float coat were lying directly on my dogs abdomen when clipped, so the sides of the life jacket did not fully meet underneath my dog. The concern with this is that when my dog is swimming, the buoyancy of the jacket would naturally cause the jacket to float towards the surface of the water. In other words, the area of my dog that experiences the closest contact with the lifejacket while swimming, is the area of the life jacket with the least amount of padding (the exposed girth straps). If I have to haul my dog out of the water with the handle, those straps are digging into my dog's abdomen without any padding. Again, I assumed this was maybe a sizing mistake on my part. However, Ruffwear responded to my review and said that the exposed girth straps on my dog's stomach are not a sizing issue and that "the foam padding does not have to touch under their belly". Now that I know this is a design choice rather than a sizing issue, I'm changing my review to 1 star. If a sport-worthy/high activity human PFD's greatest point of contact with the body was two straps, we would never consider that PFD safe enough to put on the market. Ruffwear talks a big game about rigorous testing of all of their products, but I don't see how their product designers can think that this is an acceptable product. My dog's belly was red and chaffing after just one day of use because of the straps, so I am pretty sure that the foam padding does have to touch under their belly. I also want to mention that I'm not an internet-complainer and I don't just troll around all day writing bad reviews. However, I am a huge dog gear junkie and I am frequently buying and trying new dog gear. Ruffwear used to always set the standard for quality and thoughtfulness in their products, but they have been disappointing me a lot in their newer designs. This is the second NRS CFD I’ve owned. I’ve got a border collie/Aussie/healer thing. She used to be a small and that jacket worked great for 5 years. She got to close to a few campfires an melted some of the interior foam. But it still worked great as a handle. My pups gotten kinda thick as she’s aged. She’s defiantly a medium now. NRS was sold out of medium so I had to go with the large. She floats like a cork now. I had to do some minor modifications (sewing) to get the neck to fit snug. But the jackets are awesome. Durable, true to the sizing chart on the website, comfortable for the doggo, but the handles are the best part. You can carry your pup like a cute little suit case. Comes in handy for sure. I have two toy poodles and got them matching jackets in the violet. They are extremely easy to put on the dogs and the quality is very good. Sizing is accurate so as long as you measure your dog's chest, it will fit. Also, it is a very warm jacket so they will be comfortable in NY winters. Love!Kelly K

Bought a medium for my Chihuahua and a large pink for my spaniel. All within the guidelines of the size chart. Previously bought 2 gooby winter parkas. They fit M and L, but were on the small side. Seeing these with expandable knit on the underside seemed a good idea to give both pups a little more room. The Medium is hamster sized (a bit of a exaggeration, but you get the point). The large barely fits the Chihuahua, who is 10 pounds. The small needs to be returned, always a bother, worse yet we do not have second coats in the very cold New England winter. Terrible.Lillian H

We purchased this for our two year old American Lab for his first boat trip on the lake in TN. He did really well with it and it did a good job keeping him floating and gave him lots of confidence in the water! We ordered an XL b/c he was right at the measurements for top of L and bottom for XL. Glad we did, b/c the L probably would have been too small. He is lean at 67 pounds, but has longer legs! Highly recommend and suggest ordering the larger size if the measurements are close. The double handles made it easy to pull him out of the water from the boat and dock.Bluedancers99

Very cute lightweight puffer jacket for my small dog. This is perfect for Texas winter and is not too bulky. Gooby jackets are cut very narrow so work better on long skinny dogs. My 7 pound Yorkie/Chi mix wears a small and it fits him like a glove. My poodle mix is 13 pounds and is too wide chested to fit into Gooby items. They are well made and I love the built in d rings so you do not need an extra harness. Gooby makes quality products!!Lisa G

Nice jacket for rain but not cold weather. Product tag description is for a different jacket and some of the description language reads a little off similar to google translation.
