Totally disappointed … I'm not sure what has changed in materials/production, but the new flaps only "closed" for maybe the 1st two weeks. After that, there is a huge gaping space on both sides that allows unwanted air to flow into my house. & it's not because of any extreme temperatures … we've stayed consistently mild. I like the pet door and it was easy to install. Unfortunately my 6 month old border collie decided to use the flags for a chew toy. It was not easy to find the insulates middle flap on the website but after a lot of frustration I got all three flaps ordered. It would be nice if there was an option to order them together. I had to fabricate the plastic pieces that sandwiched the flaps because the old ones were broken and the only one that came with the insulated flap was completely different. It actually took me longer to replace the flaps than it did to install the door originally. If I need to replace them again I will probably just order the complete door and replace it. I called the company to complain about the fit the replacement had a 1/4in gap at least and they admitted there was a small gap from the original door and the replacement for our door frame. The frame is not that old either and in Florida that gap is enough for waste of air conditioning and to allow mosquitoes in which is a very bad problem. I have had the same sliding door insert for well over 15 years and when I last ordered replacement flaps in 2018 I was warned that the door itself was being discontinued so that in the future, flaps might no longer be available. I looked long and hard to find a replacement flap for an older dog door. My aunt bought a house 8 years ago that a pretty decrepit dog door. The flap was in tatters or just missing chunks. The customer service representative worked extra hard to help me find this classic flap that is the closest fit currently on the market. To my family’s amazement it actually fit into the upper channel that holds the flap in place. The only problem is that it is about half an inch short. The flap is the correct length, but the protrusions that slide into the channel that secure it are half an inch lower than the original flap. We are using some heavy painters tape to make up the difference in length for now, but otherwise it fits great. With outside temperatures in the low twenties and teens the flap has been a blessing. That whole area around the pet door is much warmer and the cold breezes are gone.Carolyn S
Replacement for the pet door we had gotten used.Easily to replace. The only thing is if this is for a cat, the magnets are a bit on the strong side. Probably not an issue for dogs (we don't have any dogs). For cats, pushing through with their delicate faces and then dropping on their long tails on the way out is obviously not comfortable. I ordered this Ideal Pet Door from Walmart.com to replace the same model Ideal Pet Door originally installed over 10 years ago. Walmart.com had the best price and ordering from their website is convenient with fast shipping. This Ideal Pet Door is the same model with slightly different modifications which makes it a better door than my first one. Removing the old door was very easy to do. Replacing the new door was just as easy. All I needed was a Phillips head screwdriver and my fur~kid supervising me. BTW, The original installation took an hour and was placed into a glass storm door with a solid lower panel. The Pet Door is sturdy and comes with a panel that slides into slots on the inside to block the pet door opening. It can be used when travelling or when you want to keep your pet in or out. It has a magnetic strip on the bottom part of the frame and one on the bottom of the flap which keeps the flap closed. I have never had an unwelcome guest come through the door. The Ideal Pet Door is a great value, construction is flawless and replacement parts are available. It has lasted through years of two rambunctious very bad black labs and I am replacing it by choice. It can be installed in doors, storm doors, sliding patio door inserts and in brick walls. Ideal is well know for their quality pet products and has been in business for decades. Extremely easy to install.* Looks and functions better than expected in an interior door. The screws were a bit long considering the width of the door. I would suggest using shorter screws because they were hard to screw in completely, and I was using a drill to drive the screws! Overall, the door is an excellent value and I would buy another one if needed. I went with a slightly larger door than typically recommended for cats. One reason is that we are expected one cat to grow large. (We think he's a Norwegian forest cat. Before that we guessed Maine Coon.) Also, there are steps immediately on one side of the door, so I figured extra clearance would help. The smaller door would probably work OK for normal sized, fit cats. (*I traced the part that slides through the door, drilled holes where the screw posts fit through, and just cut along those lines with a jig saw. It fit right through perfectly the first time! This was definitely an overdue purchase. We have been propping the basement door open with a shoe for months in the new house for the cat to run down to do his business and it finally came time to close the door (when the cat would come upstairs he would nudge the door fully open because he was too fat to sneak through the gap). My husband said it was easy to put in. My only issues with this product are (1) the flap doesn't swing a easily as i would like and our cat kind of has to put a little effort in to opening it (I'm sure this will ease as he uses it more) and (2) the lever at the bottom to lock it is very stiff and I feel like I'm going to break it one of these days. With those only two VERY minor things I would surely suggest this to anyone. Also, my cat is definitely not HUGE (12 lbs, i think) and he seems to be just the perfect size for this product. Needed a new storm / screen door and found a unit at Menards that included the PetSafe door flap. Installation was simple and training the dogs to let themselves in and out only took a few minutes. And for some reason kids liked crawling through it too. It has seen large and small dog's use it (15lb Italian greyhound to 80lb husky) We often "dog sit" for friends and family with a wide variety of dogs and their behaviors. I absolutely love this door, and flap with one exception… my dog loves her zoomies and occasionally she races through the flap full speed. We are VERY careful to make sure the primary door is wide open. I really wish the flap came in a clear color style as I’m terrified my dog can’t see through the other side. She’s run straight into her brother a few times. Otherwise, had for a few months with no issues and very satisfied. keeps out cold air well. It’s 40 degrees and I leave it open for most of the day. I have a storm door that came with a large petdoor that I absolutely love, however it is not energy efficient because it doesn't always catch the magnet. Do you make a conversion kit to upgrade to extreme whether door so the whole frame doesn't have to be replaced or a rigid door? If not, would you consider doing so. The current system is not energy efficient for my home.awharper

The replacement door is light weight compared to the original door itself. So when we get heavy wind, the door gets blown open letting cold in. Besides that one aspect, the door fit perfect, locks on to the magnet great (wash old magnet connected to the frame) and all else is nice. I would reorder. I just wish the replacement was exactly like the door that came with the frame to start with. We have big dogs and hopefully this door can hold up like the original. Only time will tell!lanas2004

These were replacement flaps for an XL dog door. Not even the manufacturer was offering the XL size. There were very few other places that carried the size, and all were out of stock. Not only did Walmart offer the XL dog door flaps online, but they order was delivered very quickly.Irish2OH
