I've been looking for a while to find a gate that would fit my space. I have a 66in opening. They all look great then you read the specs. 4 panels that are 28in wide. Well that wont work. I bought this gate to confine my dog in the kitchen which has a large open doorway. It fit well into the space and looked nice. Installation was pretty easy although I had to screw into drywall so if I were keeping the gate I would need to purchase anchors for the screws to ensure stability. For the most part this gate was just what I expected and I was initially happy with my purchase although the door was sometimes difficult to open with one hand. Unfortunately I have an incredibly agile dog and within a day of the gate being up she figured out that she could easily jump right over it. Will be returning the gate since it doesn't fulfill its intended purpose with my dog. I am sure it would work very well for dogs who are not able to jump so high.LuvMyShiba
Seems to be well made and easy to use. But if you stretch it out straight across and you have a wooden floor you will need to put something such as a rubber strip to grip it down. I like the design and I love that the pieces slide back, but they don’t do that easily. The ends don’t lock in place easily. Either the top or the bottom lock into place. Our dog has been hard headed about jumping on our couch while we're gone. I bought 2 other gates that were too complex to put together or not long enough. For the price the pet gate was alright however, the description mentions that the gate will fit openings up to 39 inches and while it might possibly fit the opening, it is quite loose and could be knocked down. It would require firing strips with a 39 inch doorway. The construction of the pet gate is also very light and not nearly as hardy as one previously purchased.Johnr314
Both my roommate and I have medium/large dogs and I also have a cat. We needed a way to keep the dogs from getting the cat food and litter, while also giving everyone access to different parts of the house. I put this gate up in my walk-in closet (where I keep my cat's things) and it works perfectly! I had to tie up the small cat door so that it doesn't accidentally close and leave my cat without access to her box, but that wasn't a problem to me. We have two fairly small dogs and this gate is amazing for containing them. The opening between our family room and our living room is 70" and this gate spans the opening perfectly. I especially like that it is free-standing and not attached to a wall. Because it has substantial plastic tabs that "catch" between the two walls of the opening, the dogs aren't able to push it open or push it over. Since it moves easily, they are able to insert noses between the gate and the wall it is pressing against and squeeze through that way. We have solved that with a jug of kitty litter against the gate. Not really attractive, but effective. It is very easy to move out of the way and put back in place, so I can get in and out of different rooms. It is short enough for our cats to jump over (20") and my husband easily steps over it (he's pretty tall). Our dogs are a Shiatsu who is fairly small and a small standard poodle. Neither of them has attempted to jump over the gate (they aren't jumpers). Larger dogs or those who are jumpers might be able to jump over. Our son has a very large standard poodle and she is quite able to get over the gate when she visits, so this might not be perfect for a larger dog. This is a good quality gate. I run childcare centers, so I have used a lot of differnt gates. This one is good. I've seen a couple negative reviews complaning that the gate is "bent" or "deformed". This is most likely not the case. The gate is supposed to be "deformed" slightly so that it stays in place when the compression pads are tightened. If it was not, then the gate would not stay put.J
It works for the purpose of keeping our dog away from the door when the doorbell rings, but the overall design of the actual gate could be improved. It is a bit flimsy because of the extra wide length. It causes it to not open, close and latch with ease. Sometimes you have to pull the release button and pull the gate a couple times before it opens with ease. When closing it it sometimes don t actually latch and close as intended and you have to jiggle it some to secure the the door to shut and latch itself. The open and stay back feature of this gate is an added Benefit and that part works great. It took us quite awhile to get the screwed down to the best position to get the door to line up and close. I had high hopes for this gate as I have two other types of Regalo safety gates setup in other areas of our home, however I was quite disappointed with this particular model. Quality of the actual gate itself was fine, however the mounting plastics just don’t seem sufficient for a safety gate that is going to be used at the top of the stairs. After installation, I did not have the sense of assurance or comfort I was expect; this maybe better suited as a safety gate at the bottom of the stairs. Functionality of the gate operated as I expected it too. The gate did open and close with relative ease and it’s a plus that it’s simple to remove if necessary. As for the Installation, it was much more difficult than I was expecting as the instructions were not very easy to follow. This gate also has many parts to it which makes installation more overwhelming then it should be. It would be nice if the gate came with installation template to make for a quicker installation. Overall, the gate itself seems durable enough with the exception of the plastic hardware that is fasten to the post/or wall (your mileage may vary) however the plastic mounting pieces I feel would benefit from adding some kind of metal insert just to reinforce everything. I wish this was a positive review but oh my god I hate this gate! Worst thing ever! Do not recommend buying. First- It’s a hassle to put together. Second- It squeaks when you try to open it. Last and most impotant- the amount of times it’s completely popped out of both sides and fallen on me is beyond ridiculous. This gate does not stay put well at all. The tension does not hold it in place with just about any level of pressure. I used it as a dog gate and my puppy just knocks it down without much force. It really only works if he doesn't go near it. I even tried to use it on my back porch but it just fell down the stairs from the wind and scared the puppy. He didn't even touch it. Maybe this would work well in a new construction home with perfectly flat walls or doorways, but I live in a historic home built in the 1890s. All the doorways have original wood trim. I cannot get this gate to stay put in any of our doorways reliably at all. Not very sturdy and difficult to set up properly. As noted in a previous review, the mechanism does not slide properly so you can fit the gate snugly and easily to the door opening. I finally discovered if you turn the whole thing upside down, the slide seems to release and works when you turn it right side up again. When you finally get it in place, the bottom doesn't fit snugly and you have to tug on each side and pull it towards each side of the door opening. If you have patience, it might work well for a small animal, but my 25 pound puppy knocked it over easily, never mind the adult dogs. If you want something reliable, keep shopping. Most gates are quite high, so I was very excited to find this one and at such a great price. It is sturdy, installs easily, looks nice and is quick to take down when I need to vacuum. I love this gate because it's perfect for containing little dogs (mine is 15 lbs.) and it's easy for me to step over. This is the fourth one I've ordered. I just got a new puppy who isn't house trained, AND he tries to run out the front door every chance he gets. After chasing him through the neighborhood three times, I put one of these gates up between my front door and my screen door. I also put three others at the bedroom thresholds to keep him in the living room until he's house trained. The gates also make my two cats feel safe until they all get along! They are still hiding in the bedrooms. I would have given a five-star rating, except for the fact that the spring in the little door of the gate has broken on one of them.1shrimpbait

Gates work as advertised. Not as easy to use as the ones we had years ago with a squeeze handle to open the gate…Those appear to be few and far between now. A little pricey for the quality, altho it does seem to do the job and is made of all metal so it can be used outside, so four stars just for price point. Not too hard to assemble and set up, nice and light weight, I did have path way posts that weren’t exactly set parallel, so the gate did work well to be able to offset the closing and locking mechanism. I’m using it to keep two medium-large dogs on the porch. It seems to work well for that. The lock mechanism is a little wonky and cumbersome, but I have it so all I have to do it raise the gate a little and it sets right in the top and bottom holes and stays closed. I wouldn’t use it to keep a curious toddler in one place, especially at the top of the stairs or near the opening to a pool because of that cumbersome lock mechanism, but that’s my opinion. All in all, a decent gate that works sufficiently for what I had intended to use it for.Shelly
I really like the gate . Looks good. I bought them for my deck to keep my Dachshund in. Work good. Should last awhile. Not so easy to open and close. Not in a real bad way but one of them is ….I would call it temperamental. Just doesn't quite want to open or close easily . Yes I would recommend these. I also used the web scanner on the instructions to get You Tube instruction. Very easy to put up. I m 67 and had them both done in about 2 hours. Probably sooner if hadn't stopped to chat with a neighbor .nancy
I bought this gate for a tricky bottom of the stairs installation that required an angle mount. My previous gate (Kidco) had plastic latches but it was the metal bars that ended up breaking after a year of use. This gate has a much smoother operation. Make sure to follow the instructions! An extra set of hands is helpful. Will update this review after a year of use.LizB

Nice lightweight gate for small dogs. I like that it is shorter than my last gate so it’s easier to step over. When assembling the gate there or no holes in the wood pre-drilled for the feet so you do have to drill the screw into the wood manually which is easy to do because it is a soft material. I was able to do it with just a screw and a screwdriver.Melz
Love this gate! Looks good, assembles easily, and fits nicely into our uneven doorway. Low enough to easily step-over but high enough to contain a small or medium size dog unless he/she is a jumper. Only free-standing gate I could find with feet that can be placed wherever you want them depending on how much you want it to overlap your walls. Also, feet are shorter than other gates I looked at, making them less of a tripping hazard. The only downside is, it's wood. My dog is an obsessive chewer. Took him about 8 months but he eventually pretty much demolished the feet. We solved that problem by having metal feet made.
This little gate has turned out to be the perfect solution for us and our little Westie. As he aged, we decided to limit his access to the entire house, and we were leaning an old wooden baby gate against the doorway. Each time we passed through, we had to move the gate and more it back and it was banging up the wall, not to mention extremely annoying to do so. Now we can easily step over the gate, even with our hands full, and it looks very clean and neat. Also, it is very easy to move it to another place if needed. Well Done!Bonnie

I love this gate, especially for the price! I had to cover an 8 foot area and its perfect. My little one is 1 1/2 and he likes to shake it. Each end is connected into studs so it wiggles but its secure. Both sides have a little slide door, its easy to slide but I prefer to step over. The latch kinda sticks. I also needed a dog door so I actually made one myself with this gate and it was really easy! I know all the dog door long gates are super expensive. I hope this helps!jennifer
We bought this gate for an 89inch entryway between our dining room and living room and it works perfectly. Installation was fast and easy and it has held up to all of my kids banging on it and shaking it and whatever it is that kids typically do. the metal bracket screwed into the gate at the bottom is a little bent from their activity but I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon, bent, but still works perfectly. We don't have any problems opening it and closing it, it might be a little tricky when I am in a hurry but still only takes a few seconds. My 3 1/2 years old did open it once unassisted but he hasn't tried it since, I'd imagine its pretty tricky for most kids especially for the ones younger than 3. We bought this for our 1 year old and I wished I had bought it sooner!! I love that it condenses and swings open both directions, can be opened from either end, and that it would be very easy to put away for when guests come over if need be. This gate is a nightmare to fit tightly enough to hold up to any leaning on it from curious children. Pushing down hard enough to get it in place knocks it out of place during install. The latch to open it sticks, and if I pull too hard I disengage it entirely instead of it remaining in the "remember my preferred width" position. It feels so bendy I worry pushing in hard enough will damage it. It is absolutely not functional as a gate for a determined, walking child. Its one advantage is it's low enough to easily step over and so we barely have to take it out thank goodness, but this would not be an advantage if we needed a proper barrier for a child older than maybe 2? Luckily we just need a gentle reminder they're not supposed to enter or leave that room without us in tow. I’m not sure what product the negative reviews are for (shipping – which shouldn’t even be a review of the product-duh?, flimsy, walls are uneven- seriously?) because it is not this product. I purchased this gate 24 years as a baby gate for my son. And used it constantly over the years for my dogs. I just threw away the 24 year-old gate, because it stopped latching. 24 years!!! I purchased three (3) of the same gate for my new home last month (for the dogs). They are strong gates, I have an Alpha-Female German Shepherd, a Doberman, and a crazy Australian Shepherd You have to push down on the handle, then pull up to unlatch. Not hard- Use a little muscle? Sure. You want that in a sturdy gate. I was looking at this product on here only to find the dimensions (because I didn’t want to get out of bed to measure- it’s 3 am) and saw the negative reviews and thought, “What are you people reviewing – their living room curtains?” I couldn’t stand by and let this happen. Especially when I have purchased this gate so many times. If you are reading this, buy the gate. It’s what you want for dogs or children. I love it! It is super easy to open and close. We installed it so that it is hinged. We are able to open it and swing it up against the wall going up the stairway if we choose to leave it open. It is a great way to block off the stairs. I was surprised at how nice it was for the price. It is a very sturdy gate and even the 6 year old can open and close it easily.Jennifer

It's an intuitive assembly if you wrap your head around the fact that "installation" against the wall(s) is an integral part of the final assembly. For the price the pet gate was alright however, the description mentions that the gate will fit openings up to 39 inches and while it might possibly fit the opening, it is quite loose and could be knocked down. It would require firing strips with a 39 inch doorway. The construction of the pet gate is also very light and not nearly as hardy as one previously purchased.Johnr314
Both my roommate and I have medium/large dogs and I also have a cat. We needed a way to keep the dogs from getting the cat food and litter, while also giving everyone access to different parts of the house. I put this gate up in my walk-in closet (where I keep my cat's things) and it works perfectly! I had to tie up the small cat door so that it doesn't accidentally close and leave my cat without access to her box, but that wasn't a problem to me. Also, my cat isn't afraid to go through the door which was another concern of mine, but no issues! The silver finish works fine with my off white walls, and it's easy for me to get in and out of my closet daily. I'd definitely recommend!Rebecca
