I was looking for something with a lid that opens, and this was perfect. For the price, it's a great value, even with minor imperfections in the wood. It was easy to assemble, and I liked the reinforced leg caps plus the shingle roofing.CB

Roof ridge (very top piece) came split down the entire length. I called the manufacturer, and they said they are unable to send a replacement as the parts are made overseas. The only recourse is to return the entire thing to Walmart for a replacement.Texmom

I just bought this dog house and it arrived with a damaged roof ridge cover. I contacted Petmate/Aspen Pet and they informed me they do not carry replacement parts/panels for their dog houses. So keep that in mind if you buy from them, I would not recommend this manufacturer to anyone.DuckHouse

Bought this for our 7 month old Pyrador puppy, who has already outgrown one house. It was easy to put together, and the sturdist dog house we've ever seen. Plus being insulated is perfect for a cold Indiana winter. She's huge and still growing and loves it. The first night she slept in front of it despite dog treats inside. Second night was cooler, she decided to check it out so the head and front paws went thru the swinging door first, and after she had stood that way for about 5 minutes, walked all the way in, and has loved it ever since. From the size if it unless she grows as much as Clifford the big red dog, she'll get to enjoy for a lifetime.PJ

We got this house for a new Boxador puppy so that it can spend most of its time outside. We found it to be a good product. It was easy to put together and does stay much warmer than the outside air. In rainy weather, it stays dry. It is a very large house which would work for a lab or other large dog. No problems with the dog using the door. Only suggestion: add nuts and bolts for the 6 screws. Screwing metal into plastic is not a real good plan. I'm assuming the company will have replacement parts (door, window, etc…) available for my investment!Y Robinson

I have been using these large Permate dog houses to house my Nigerian Dwarf goats for many years. They have made "affordable housing" for my goats. I will say that my bucks (boys) are much harder on the houses than the does (girls). Both genders jump on top, but the bucks crack the rain shield by jumping on top of the houses. This happens after a while, not right away. I don't blame the company that makes these because they are intended for dogs, not goats that love to climb! I do wish the tops would be stronger to prevent this problem from happening. Another area to improve design would be for the top to somehow lock on to the base. When my Great Pyrenees (GP) dog goes inside to lay down, the lid can lift/tilt off. The large size is not big enough for a GP. The price keeps going up, and I'm not pleased with having to pay more. I wait until the neighbor club coupon comes out to buy any needed replacement houses. Over the years I've bought countless Permate Large dog houses, so I know these pretty well! My Lab and Australian Shepherd love these large Petmate houses too.Farmer Johns

Looks very nice and hardy but it floods when it rains, I don't know how but the water gets inside and it is too much water. I put a crate pad inside for my outdoor cat to stay warm and went to check on my cat a few hours later after it rained, and the pad was soaking wet not to mention the house was full of water more water than what was outside . The dog house comes in two parts – top and bottom. They do not snap together; the top merely sits on the bottom. No hardware is provided to attach the two and even if there was there are no holes through which one would thread screws or bolts (or whatever) to keep the dog house together. I use these for my goats because these houses are inexpensive but the goats knowingly and regularly have fun pushing up on the exit/entrance hole to "break" the house into two pieces. Yes, I laugh at their antics but I still plan to drill holes and use nuts/bolts to keep the top and bottom together.L McGaffey

I bought this for my cats. They love it. 4 cats can sleep very comfortably in this. This is my 3rd dog house I have bought for the barn farm cats. PS. They also have the whole barn to their selves but they love being up at the house. Yes all 15 barn farm cats are spoiledShivy

I receive the item and the box was in good condition. Upon opening the item there were 8 pieces. 4 walls, the top and 3 pieces that make up the floor. 3 of the 4 walls were split by screws that were inserted on the pre-fabricated panels. I took pieces and sent them to customer service. I believe this was done before being boxed up to ship. Although I was offered a discount for the damaged item I don't believe it would last as the floor did not attach but rested on the ledge of the sides. When my dog stepped into the dog house the first time 1 of the 3 pieces that make up the floor flipped up. It is nice looking but the wood is very cheap. I would not recommend buying.Unhappy Customer

I expected better of this outdoor doghouse, especially for the price. It is made of "fir wood" which isn't a hardwood at all. Pine would have been sturdier. Assembly was easy but the house itself flimsy, with several of the pre-fab section not even nailed or glued together, and some pieces with parts of the wood broken off. Even in the "giant" size it was barely large enough for a 90lb GSD. The feet were plastic and the floor slated wood were the elements can creep through. This house is advertised as ideal for outdoor use – but I wouldn't trust it during a New England winter. It was sent back immediately. I would NOT recommend this manufacturer for outdoor dog houses. For less money you could build a better one out of more durable wood.Razor

I just opened my Small size Precision Pet Extreme Log Cabin doghouse today to assemble. It looks like it will assemble pretty well, although one of the sides is 3/16" out of square. Because the panels are firmly glued and screwed together it will require some adjustment/trimming to assemble correctly instead of attempting to break the glue joints and true it up. Obviously a rush job by the factory in Wuhan. The roof shingles do appear to be very well sealed and bonded together, however there are a few spots on the edges of the composition shingles on the roof where bare wood can be seen at the edges, which would allow water to get into the roof frame, so those spots will have to be sealed. The three piece floor has 1/8" gaps between the slats, so if you want the animal occupying the box to be comfortable when it is cold and windy, you will have to do some modification to the floor, which I plan on doing. The statement that the box is waterproof and weather resistant is a stretch. The stain/preservative used on all of the wood surface is so thin that pouring any water at all on the wood surface disappears as the wood instantly absorbs it. I will not put the box in service until at least 2 coats of a high quality exterior grade paint/stain is applied. If you try and use this box without putting a proper preservative coat on it, you might get one year of use out of it before it rots or suffers UV damage and cracks and splits. This doghouse is being re-purposed by me to be a Barn Owl nest box; the dimensions are almost perfect and as soon as I saw it I realized that it could be used for quick installation during the brief annual window between December to January during which Barn Owls are NOT in their box. All I really have to do is put an insert into the door to reduce the opening size, add a perch/balcony outside the opening, fix the floor, and of course, properly seal the wood so that it will last more than one season. My primary reason for paying the extra money for the "EXTREME" model was the feature description that said: Its stainless steel hardware also adds to its sturdiness. THIS IS A LIE! THE HARDWARE SUPPLIED IS NOT STAINLESS STEEL, so this is my major gripe. My guess is that China figures that most Americans can't tell the difference between stainless and non-stainless steel. I'm a retired engineer, and you can almost always identify stainless/non-stainless steel by its color and appearance, although the surefire test is with a magnet. Regular steel will be strongly attracted by a magnet, if it is stainless steel, you might get a very slight attraction. This stuff is definitely normal steel with maybe a thin coat of zinc – not stainless steel. My first impression was the quality of the plastic crate. Sturdy and attractive. And it was simple to put together. Everything lined up nicely. I purchased this for my rescue with separation anxiety. He struggled with the metal crate, fretting no matter how short the time in the crate. It was recommended by our trainer to purchase a plastic crate "from Tractor Supply." My furbaby was initially hesitant but has quickly acclimated to his new den. In a matter of 1 week, he walks right in – hesitatingly – but he does it. I am very pleased with this purchase.Hens Mom

So my dogs are rescues. The first one hated the metal wire crate. 3 years & another rescue added to our pack I decided to try crating again to save my home. I was a bit nervous because this was a huge investment – I purchased 2 cates & 2 crate beds. I assembled the crates in the bedroom where they would be placed. I allowed my dogs to watch me and inspect. I even stood inside the crate before assembling so they could see. I put in the cushy furry bed, got a treat, said kennel up and Bam! They climbed right in, I closed the door and gave them their treat. They absolutely LOVE their crates. When they get frightened from the thunder & lightning, they kennel up and are happier & safer. When we have people coming to visit, especially new to the pups, I kennel them up about 10 minutes before guests arrive. Once guests show up, I explain to them to ignore the dogs when I let them out. Just let them come up to you and sniff you. This has worked wonders for our 2nd rescue to feel safe. Our family can't image life without these crates. They are sturdy as well.aegisprncs

I just got my dog house all set up and wow! It’s great! While my 50lb border collie is a little hesitant of it, I think he will grow accustomed to it! Assembly was not too hard and only took about an hour and a half, I liked the slide and lock mechanics of connecting the walls. The divider wall, heater mount, and hydraulic lid are great features. It is a pretty large dog house but I have a large dog so it is needed, it gives him room to turn around and lay down however he likes. Thanks lifetime!Jordo

This dog house is actually big enough to fit both of our dogs. It took about an hour and 15 minutes for my husband to put it together. The item is super sturdy but light enough that he could carry it and reposition it without any help. The top locks down and easily opens up for us to be able to put their bed in. I love the fact that there is a place to put a space heater for the times they need to stay out for a bit. We’ve had a doghouse before and it just didn’t hold up well after being out in the weather. Lifetime makes such great products that hold up season after season and I know this will be great just like our deck box.Cj C

This dog house was sent to me by Lifetime products to review and I have nothing but good things to say. This dog house is extremely nice quality and over all easy to build. I absolutely love that the roof is an easy to open lid that can be used when you're cleaning it out or needing to check inside. It's big enough to fit my 35 lb dog's bed in there and still have room for other things. The middle panel is removable which I absolutely love. Though I believe I could've built this on my own, having another person helped the building process even easier. Some of the pieces are heavy and big so it helped having another person being able to hold the other end. With 2 people it took us about 2 hours to put it all together. Tools are a must for building, I recommend having a drill and a socket wrench. I highly recommend watching the YouTube videos, they're easy to follow along and are a great visual. Everything is labeled and organized and written down in the instructions that come with the product. The written instructions come in handy when you need to know what items to use in each step. I absolutely love the quality that Lifetime brings to all of their products and the dog house is no exception to this.Madi

We have tried many Kennels/Crates for our dog, she suffers from Anxiety and nothing has kept her as safe as this kennel. Any metal kennel, regardless of how indestructible it has advertised to be, we have come home to a scraped up bleeding dog that is out in the house and destroying things. She is a pitbull and she chews through anything. The kennels that are plastic with the metal grates on the side she chews on the door and breaks the metal on the sides and at this point has ruined her teeth. We have put her in the Ruff Land Performance kennel twice, once for two hours, great success and once for an entire day. She was calmer, and no blood or destruction to the crate. Wish I had seen this crate 9 years ago. Another feature we like is that it has a flat floor, rather than one that is either metal grating or has a few round circles protruding to allow stacking of kennels. We are amazed and so thankful to have this crate. I would recommend this crate to any dog owner. I can't say enough good about it.Diana B

I purchased this kennel about a month ago for a new pup. As a young dog in the back seat of the truck with two full grown Retreivers, I wanted to ensure she was safe and secure. The kennel is made of top notch materials, fits nicely on the back seat and is tied down to the child seat anchors. We tried the reinforced wire crates with no success. If he could get out, he would. The next step was possibly getting those ultra reinforced crates that cost almost a thousand dollars and almost require financing. This has been the perfect compromise. It’s sturdy and durable. It obviously has a little weight to it, but it’s definitely manageable. Hands down if something happens to this crate that isn’t caused by our dog, I’ll buy it again and again.Jennahboo92

I had been rigging my dogs summer tent to shelter my stray cat..I fed her, so she’s mine lol…but it just wasn’t cutting it anymore and it is oddly cold this winter here in Alabama. I added a heavy layer of straw, some fleece blankets and she moved right on in! I feel better knowing she is safe, warm, well fed & happy! I used some drop plastic (thick), and duct tape to create a door that would keep the wind & rain out and warmth in! Couldn’t be happier!KimCole

My dog seems to love his new doghouse. It's very roomy and super easy to assemble. It's insulated too so hope it keeps him warm. We took the bottom half of the doggie door off to get use to going in and out of the doghouse. He did wonderful. I think when we put the bottom half back on it will be fine.LoriOe

I have used these type of doghouses for years to house my indoor cats' litter pans. Not only do they help to contain the litter that always seems to make it out of the pan, they also act as an odor barrier and preserve my flooring from "over reaches". The roof comes off easily for easy access to the interior, but is solid enough not to be displaced should one of the cats jump on top, Highly recommend!anonymous
