My dog went a few days with excessive "goop" from his eyes. Since my dog hasn't had a history with this, and doesn't seem to have seasonal allergies, the vet suggested an antimicrobial for the eye irritation and I went with this ophthalmic gel based on the luck I've had with other Vetericyn products in the past. I started with a tiny drop on the corner of my dog's eye to be sure he wouldn't have any reaction to it. Later that day, I went ahead and applied a few drops in each of his eyes. I applied the gel two times a day for three days in a row and by the fourth day his eyes had stopped having discharge. The shape of the dispenser where you squeeze the product out of makes it very easy to apply the gel to their eyes. While it is a "gel," it comes out of the dispenser fairly quickly which I find allows for an accurate application. The gel-like substance is great to confirm that you got the gel where you want it to go. Went out one morning and caught a glimpse of what looked like a little scratch on my horses eye. Upon inspection the eye itself was untouched but the eyelid was cut about an inch long from the back corner towards the front. I cleaned it and figured I would just leave it alone. No its like everything else I have tried does not work I can't even get my cats to get it down. When I first got it I let my cat smell it and he literally gagged (should have stopped there)?then I put it in a syringe and gave it to him and he threw up right after I gave it to him. My 20 y.o. senior cat has had upper respiratory issues since he was 1 year old, but had gotten so chronic and so bad that he has literally had a stuffy nose and sneezing for an entire year straight. The product is easy to use and doesn't seem to cause any discomfort in any way to my 2 dogs eyes. Seems to break up the goo "slightly" when put on cotton and gently used to clean their eyes. This product doe NOT "whiten" the eye area at all! I was hoping it would whiten as my white dog has VERY stained tear duct areas and I haven't found anything that really works! I haven't really tried too many cleaners because I do NOT want to cause discomfort or irritation to their eyes being such a very sensitive area to be cleaned. I guess this cleaner would be "ok" for just wiping their eyes but honestly, I don't think it really "cleans or brightens" at all!triciaub13

My indoor only cat has had some discharge around her eyes. Decided to try the Cliny Eye Cleaner. I used a cotton ball and wiped her eyes really good with the cleaner. She didn't seem to mind it at all so it must not have burned or irritated her. The lotion feels really smooth and wipes on easily. With water as part of the composition I don't think there should be any problem with it. To be fair about this review, this is the first time I have used this product with no problem. My dog went a few days with excessive "goop" from his eyes. Since my dog hasn't had a history with this, and doesn't seem to have seasonal allergies, the vet suggested an antimicrobial for the eye irritation and I went with this ophthalmic gel based on the luck I've had with other Vetericyn products in the past. I started with a tiny drop on the corner of my dog's eye to be sure he wouldn't have any reaction to it. Later that day, I went ahead and applied a few drops in each of his eyes. I applied the gel two times a day for three days in a row and by the fourth day his eyes had stopped having discharge. It is almost like my dog knew the drops would make him feel better as he kept his head very still when I applied the gel to his eyes. The shape of the dispenser where you squeeze the product out of makes it very easy to apply the gel to their eyes. While it is a "gel," it comes out of the dispenser fairly quickly which I find allows for an accurate application. The gel-like substance is great to confirm that you got the gel where you want it to go. Went out one morning and caught a glimpse of what looked like a little scratch on my horses eye. Upon inspection the eye itself was untouched but the eyelid was cut about an inch long from the back corner towards the front. I cleaned it and figured I would just leave it alone. The next morning it was itchy and irritating her and REALLY swollen. I cleaned her up, applied the Vetericyn ophthalmolic gel, and put a patch over her eye to keep her from rubbing it and repeated this 4 times that day and removed the patch that evening to let it air. By the next morning all the swelling had completely subsided and it was no longer irritating her! This product helped me when my dog had an eye wart. The vet said it did not need to be removed until it got to the point that he was scratching at it or it started to affect his vision. I have one eyelid that doesn't close properly. Before I found this P.M. lubricant, I used Celluvisc. Celluvisc is great and I use it for my other eye, but sometimes you need something with more staying power. So I use P.M. for my worst eye. Less is better with this product or you just end up with a mess on your face in the morning. Tube lasts a long time if you use it sparingly.Debbie
It's about the same as every other brand I have tried, except it does not burn like other products It helps a little but not like I had hoped for by what other reviews stated. I have night time dry eye really bad (can't open them), and this is overpriced, thus the 3 star rating. It has the exact main ingredient that is in petroleum jelly, but this product has some mineral oil added. I recently read where a doctor had his patients dampen their outside eye area before bed and lightly put the petroleum jelly around the outer part of eye area. That has worked better than this, but I will keep using it. At least it does not sting like all the other brands I have tried. I have been using supplements as well as this is possibly menopause related. Anywho, I have been dealing with this for over a year now (age 63), and praying for more relief soon. My lab/beagle mix suffers from skin allergies, and the poor thing will scratch and chew herself until she bleeds, so I was very eager to try this product. The day I received it, I rubbed down her belly with it (this is where she itches the most) and it seemed like she felt instant relief. My poor pupper got irritated paws from horrible ginko berries smashed all over the fall ground and then made them worse by licking. They were so red and I felt so bad. This product is on the shelf next to a dozen others that claim to do the same thing, but I didn't get to it until three others didn't get the job done. This showed visible improvement within a day. Bonus that he didn't lick it off – before I tried this I would combo an antimicrobial with one of those "bitter taste dogs hate" sprays, but my dog is weird and loved those things and would lick them like crazy. Used it on my German Shepherd Dog who is going through the shedding stage now. I normally don't bath her but three times per year, being she is a healthy female she doesn't have hardly any odor except if she gets wet. Then for some strange reason she smells like a dog. I have a Bichon whose tear ducts never developed. The eyes constantly tear, resulting in some very awful tear staining. I have used Angels Eyes for a little over two years now. My dog won't touch the powdered version even when mixed into canned dog food. He thinks the tablets are a treat and cannot wait until the next dose. I have tried both types, the one with the mild anti-biotic and the natural type. I think the anti-biotic type works a little bit better than the natural type, but I don't think it is made any longer. I even looked at Angels Eyes site and it is not listed. The natural chews work pretty well, although I give my dog one more tablet than the recommended dose. Drs. I've used Angel eyes twice over 7 years and it has always worked great for my little 5lb Pappillon. His eyes started weaping again so I first used the powder. The container was nearly empty and no change. Then I discovered it came in a chew, which is soooo much handier, so bought a container and continued giving it to him. He loves the taste, but that's not the problem. He finished the powder and is about halfway thru the chews and still no change. Odd. Previously by now the problem was solved and he was good for a couple years, but now no change. Great product. I remembered that my previous eye doctor use to recommend this product years ago and thought I'd try it. I have really dry eyes to the point where they feel like pins are poking them. I used this product and it helped relieve the burning and the redness. My current doctor told me if my eyes are that dry, my eyes would sting with eye drops in the beginning and to keep applying until it went away. I had to apply the drop back to back about 4 times to finally get relief. This was the same when I used Refresh tears. I'm just glad this product is more natural and cheaper. [from Similasan] Originating in Switzerland in 1980, the Similasan brand became popular across Europe. Today, Similasan remedies are widely used and well-respected in North America. I had a deviated septum that was surgically corrected years ago but I would often get a "discharge" of white "puss" that would gather in my lower eye (the left more than right). I had a Doctor of Optometry (DO) recommend Systane long-lasting lubricating drops but I never got more than 1-2 hours relief. I have adjusted the brightness levels on all of my devices, I get plenty of sleep yet this discharge would not go away. I was almost ready to just cave and buy another $15 bottle of Systane till I read about Similasan Complete on that *OTHER* site. What the heck, I mused at least it's cheaper than Systane. Took me a minute to wrap my head around Similasan's applicator: the bottle (vial) is glass, which is great and you apply it by turning it upside down and squeezing the plastic applicator. The bottle even has legible instructions, although I 'cheated' with a magnifying glass. After 1 day of using Similasan Complete twice daily, 2 drops per eye, my nasal/sinus discharge has gone away 95%. I will clean out any residual "puss" in the A.M. with a wet Q-Tip. I've been using this for over 2 weeks on my senior pup who has a tumor under her eye that causes frequent "weeping." It has removed the stain almost completely. It is cool, has no scent to bother my dog, and she seems to enjoy it. The size is perfect, compact enough for travel but contains quite a bit of product. We love it. Highly recommend.iHerb Customer
