I agree with the other reviewer, who said they are too thick! I have to give away 1/2 the bag, because they’re too thick for my Havanese! The package says he needs a small, for his size, but he just can’t chew the big thick ones. I’ve resorted to buying the Petite, a time or two. Those are a completely different item. My dogs loves these, and they keep their teeth very clean. I know people get nervous with rawhide, but the trade off is worth it. These chew chips are coated with enzymes that clean the dogs teeth extremely well – and apparently it makes my dogs obsessed with them too. Because they love the taste, they actually CHEW them and don't immediately swallow them (the normal issue with rawhide chews). I've recommended these to all my dog owner friends and haven't received a single bad review yet. The trick is they need one of these day. There are 30 in a bag. So about a bag a month (depending on how quickly they finish the chew, my greyhound does one of these in a day no problem). My two mini schnauzers LOVE this toothpaste. Every night when I brush my teeth, Merlin is right there waiting to have his teeth brushed, too. Leni likes to pretend she is being reluctant, but she is very cooperative. We've noticed a dramatic difference in the tartar on their teeth and their breath is much better (still not perfect, but far better). The best change has been that the rusty stains on their white beards are gone! With my other schnauzer (rest his dear soul), we tried the Angel Eyes, thinking the stains were gastrointestinal, but clearly the stains are from the bacteria in their mouths. Once we started using the Virbac (after spending Leni had to go through the expensive teeth cleaning process at the Vet) the stains were much improved and after a grooming cycle and the old hair trimmed, they're gone completely. We are sorry we didn't know to use this toothpaste when they were puppies. We couldn't be more pleased with this product and do recommend it to other miniature schnauzer owners especially fighting the rusty beard syndrome, and others who want to spare their pet the teeth cleaning or extraction process at the vet.
My dog is a really healthy 3 year old, except her teeth have always been yellow and plaque ridden and her breath bad. The first time I used this paste, I was getting blood from her gums everywhere I brushed. The second time I used it, I could tell where I had missed a spot previously because those were the only spots that still bled. After a week of use her teeth were very much whiter and no more bleeding. Fast forward a month of no brushing and her teeth are still white and no bleeding when I finally got around to brushing again. They call it enzymatic – I think it inoculated her mouth against bacteria. She loves the taste of it too – I have to keep her from licking it all off the brush right away so I can get her teeth, but when I'm done I load up the big brush side and let her lick it clean since brushing her tongue fixes her breath. Speaking of the brush, I wish they had made the small side a slim rectangle like a small normal toothbrush, the triangle shape is wide and hard to get to the deeper molars with her battling to bite and lick it. The big side is only good for the aforementioned licking, it's probably too big for all but the largest dog mouths. Unlike regular toothpaste, you have to diligently clean this stuff off the brush. It's not as soluble in water as regular paste and will get moldy if left out of the tube. It's pretty easy to use, your dog will probably like the flavor and after a few sessions get more comfortable with the brush going in their mouths. Don't expect to get all the teeth at once, just do short daily sessions at first and let the enzymes do the work. At this point I really just brush weekly or as needed for bad breath/yellow teeth. She is 3 yrs old and has some bad breath for such a little dog, she refused both brushes and and we could not get either to get near her. For over 2 weeks now, I have just been using the mint toothpaste which is incredibly minty and not sure the dog likes it, however I have been getting her used to having something in her mouth (other than food) and use my finger with some of the paste on it. The finger brush which slips over your finger is cumbersome and awkward to use. The rubber end which cleans the teeth is small and quite neat but the rest of it is too unwieldy to comfortably slide in a mouth which is a bit reluctant to open. The toothbrush seems OK, but haven't really given it a good test yet. The instructions on the pack are not very informative about how much toothpaste you actually need to use per session and also if I am doing it correctly. Currently am just using the toothpaste on my finger, but I think will try another flavour and probably an easier finger brush if such a thing exists.Claire P

I'm hoping this product will do all it says it will. It's too early to tell, but I can say there is literally no scent to the solution and our boy, Mace, drinks his water as if nothing was added. But, they don’t seem super effective besides acting as a barrier between your hand and the dog’s mouth to allow wiping away very superficial tartar or food from their teeth.

I have been using Petsilver dental spray for almost 2 yrs with my 12 yr old bichion frise and it helps in plaque buildup. I started adding this to all the water bowls in my home just a little over one bottle ago, about two months. It only takes one teaspoon per pint so it lasts a long time. The dose is the same for all pets, so it doesn't matter if the cats drink the dog's water, which is great. None of them seem to notice it or mind it if they do. The price on this site is WAY cheaper than this was at my vet! I am hoping it will help maintain the dental work I'm having done on several of my pets, but it's a bit too soon to tell. One important note is that I was not going to buy this at first as I noticed that it contains xylitol. My family brushes with xylitol toothpaste and hasn't had a cavity in years, but I had learned it can be toxic for pets. We got this on Amazon for my two schnauzers and I brush their teeth with this every night. The toothbrush provided is meant for medium size dogs and for the back teeth. I use my finger and a little toothpaste for the front teeth as it’s harder to use the brush there. This is well tolerated by my 15 yo female tabby, she is a cranky older lady that never had dental procedures until three months ago. She had her first anesthetic dental that she did well with but I never want to put her through that again. With the kitten, tooth brush is also too much and she tolerates these drops perfectly fine. So my little yorkie had an abscess tooth and she was in a lot of pain. My vet gave her an antibiotic and pain meds and wanted to go in and clean her teeth and see what was going on.
