42 Dog Crate With Divider For Sale (2024 Update)

I had purchased this crate and I had found the design exactly what I was looking for. So I have bought 2 more and I plan to purchase 2 more soon. I would not choose another brand or style by the same manufacturer because it performs just as I need. My only suggestions are that the crate has a 4 door option and that the tray can be optionally removed from the side. My only complaint is that the instructions to set up the crate were not clear. I just bought this kennel for my dog, it lasted 3 months. When it arrived I noticed right away that the quality was not as sturdy as our other kennels. The wires/ bars are thinner than what I would say is the norm. My other 2 are definitely thicker. This is already falling apart. 2 small bars are broken off and the bottom bar under the door detached from the frame leaving this basically useless and not safe for my dog anymore. There is no option for a replacement or discount to replace. Save your money and get a different brand.Sjm81

Cage came in a beat up box taped together, which could have been shipping company, but that's doubtful, read on. When we unpacked it appeared the cage had been used. The metal tray was bent on all 4 corners, we had to duct tape corners so it wouldn't cut our dog. The end side with door was so bent we had to get pliers and try to unbend just to get door to latch. It is still not flush. One of the bars on same door side was not even attached on one side, also had to duct tape that so it wouldn't poke into my dog. All the latches and where cage attaches together the metal was rubbed down to bare metal. I was in a jam and needed to use this so I have not contacted company but will NEVER buy from them again.Susan

I am a professional dog trainer who deals mainly with aggression problems in large breeds. Would I put a clients dog in this kennel…never…..it is not made for that purpose. It is rather flimsy, and noisy. However, it was just what I needed for my gigantic German Shepherd dog, as it provided the space he needed, and I knew he would never try to escape, fall over on it, collapsing the sides, or walk through the walls. Buy it only for crate trained animals, and dogs who will not test boundaries. It is not suitable for pups who are active. If you want a holding cell for a dog who just wants to lay around, and have a safe denning experience, this could be your crate.havahnjoel

I use this in my office building for my French Bulldog, its a perfect size and the set I bought came with the little cushion that goes at the bottom. The 2 doors are nice so you can arrange it an way you want in your house it is very sturdy yet collapsible in case you need to travel a bit. The tray at the bottom slides out easily for messes ect. I was so excited about the fantastic sales price on the crates! Ordered an i Crate in the large size, before I did the research. After research I realized I ordered the lowest-grade crate, not what I wanted. Tried to cancel the order to reorder the higher-grade Ultima Pro. After two calls, they did send a cancel through to see if it would work. (It didn't.) I didnt want to risk waiting and missing the sale so I ordered the Ultima Pro, had to be medium, because large was out of stock. Just opened it and, like others, got one that can't even be put together because it's so out of square. It can't even be bent into place it's so bad. This is one reason I HATE buying online. The only good part is I can at least return it to the local Petco instead of having to ship it back.Lotsa animals here

My dog loves her new crate. She out grew the first one we purchased . This one gives her all the room she needs to stretch out and sleep. I was very impressed with the quality of this crate versus the quality of the first crate. This new crate has superior strength . No rattling. It is sturdy and strong. DO NOT BUY!!! Our puppy was sleeping in her kennel when she woke up whining in pain. Come to find out one of the wires were loose and she got it stabbed through her paw pad. I’m beyond mad at this point. Highly don’t recommend. If you already own it make sure to check all wires are properly welded to the kennel. You can barely see some blood on her fur and she won’t let me look at it more. Thankfully we just happen to have a vet appointment today. I hope this doesn’t prevent my dog from her training and be scared to go in. Do better vibrant pets.Oakleigh

There are so many issues with these crates I don’t even know where to begin. We didn’t just get one and have it malfunction, every single crate is horrible. We have 6 currently and they are all destroyed in one way or another. First off is the metal, it breaks so easily!! My dog broke off a metal bar up top, my sisters dog has ripped off multiple bars, one bar broke and pierced right through her paw pad, she ripped off another bar on the door and ripped one off the bottom. And the bottom part of the crate is horrible!! It looks sturdy but in reality it’s this incredibly flimsy plastic material that is easily ripped apart so now our dogs don’t have bottoms for their crates🤦🏻‍♀️ Our dogs are also no older than a year, 4 of them still being puppies with the youngest being 6 months and they managed too easily destroy these crates. Another issue we have is they do not stay up! They are collapsible crates and two of our puppies have learned how too collapse the back of the crate and escape so we’ve now had too tie them off. Overall these crates are horrible, highly dangerous and a complete waste of money.Justine Farnan

This cage came bent up like something heavy was sitting on it. Also the bottom lock on the cage looks stretched out. For $78 this cage seems extremely flimsy. I wish I would’ve went with a plastic crate instead. This was definitely not worth $78 . However customer service said the store will contact me tomorrow to deliver a non damaged cage and pick up this one. When someone is customer service gives their word, from my experience with walmart they do not follow through. Then when you call back the next person has no idea what you’re talking about and apologizes that you have misinformation. I hope they come tomorrow like I was advised. However I would return this cage for a crate instead. The quality sucks. I should’ve went to unleashed or petco or ordered from Amazon. Instead I was being cheap at Walmart so I guess this is my fault and you get what you pay for….sort of anyway….Tiffany

Good quality heavy duty cage for my Doberman puppy. The chewed the wires off the regular cage. Only concern is the tray goes under the metal grate at the bottom of the cage. Not good at all. He got his foot pad/toe caught in it. Also his collar caught in it. I forced the tray to go into the cage on top of the grate. Problem solved. Need to have an option of where to put it. Would recommend with supervision of your dog. No collars on when grate is not covered. Good tough cage. Neighbor bought same fir her bull dog puppy same age as my dobie. She likes it also. *The price was very reasonable and the size/construction was surprisingly sturdy. *As an added bonus, our cage has a side door that wasn't advertised. We almost didn't purchase this one since it appeared to only have the one door at the end. But our cage has a second door that swings out from the side panel. *We have always taken small (4" size) zip ties and secured the corners of our cages to provide added strength – in case dogs paw at the cage. I would still recommend zip ties although the cage seems to snap in place tightly. Of course, if you frequently fold down the cage, replacing zip ties can become cumbersome. *The plastic pan on the bottom is thinner than our last cage, but our dogs have not chewed or scratched at them previously, so this won't be a problem for us. *The carrying handle appears strong enough to lift the empty cage and will be useful. *Upper and lower slide latches are provided on each door. All latches have a rod bent at the end to help secure the latch. In the past, our dogs learned to shake the door until the latch slid over but this new design prevents the latch from sliding open.KYMom

I bought one of these and liked it so much that I just purchased another one. Both are the 42 inch size.I have 2 older 42 inch similar type kennels but they are a different brand and I paid a lot more for them. I think that the BestPet brand wire pet cage/crate/kennels are just as good as the more expensive ones that I have. In fact I was able to purchase two of the BestPet kennels for what I paid for one of the older kennels I have. I like the latches on the Best Pet kennels. They have a little "crook" on the end that prevents the latch from sliding open accidently. But it is easy for a human to open and close. I am an older woman and the kennels are easy for me to move around to the areas I desire to put them. They are sturdy, but easy to handle,and have the plastic slide out tray at the bottom for easy cleaning, I was unsure about this Brand at first because the price was so GOOD that I figured something had to be flawed with this kennel but I was very wrong. I do think it is a good idea to buy a couple of extra plastic trays or if you are crafty cut a piece of heavy duty plastic to have on hand when you change out a tray for cleaning. Plastic is just plastic so a heavy dog could cause damage to the tray .But the trays I got with my kennels are not flimsy at all. The kennel comes with a plastic handle that can be attached at the top. I live in a rural and at night the coyotes and other undesirable critters come out and I have had problems with Tom cats just mauling my young cats. So now I can put my kittens or young cats and puppies in kennels at night and I don't have to worry and fret about what is happening in the dark to them. Also, this will save me money in Vet bills. The cost of just one of the large kennels is about the cost of an office visit to the vet so I am very pleased to wake up each day and know that all of my "babies" are safe and happy. Included with the kennel is a wire divider that can be put in the kennel so you can keep pets separated from each other. I had one particular cat that had an injury that seemed to outsmart me and escape from any cage I tried to keep her in. She can't get out of this Best Pet kennel. I will buy a couple more of the 42 inch size kennels to have on hand because the price and quality is so great and I plan to buy a couple of the smaller wire ones to transport cats and pups to the vet in. I find the plastic cat carriers to be attractive but not so practical when you have a heavy cat or a "wild" cat or unhappy dog that needs an injection from the vet before it can be removed from the carrier to be tended to. Wondering if we were sold a used unit. Missing 3 of the 4 rubber feet the one was already attached. Video shows they shoukd be in a bag and how to install. All 4 corner top supports were there 2 were in plastic bag that was ripped open previously and other 2 were in bottom of crate. Looks like part of the paint was worn off on the corners were the supports go. One of the sliding doors squeals as you slide it closed. Couldn't return it as we sold our previous crate already. Tried to call the manufacturer as it states do not call store have not heard back after 5 messages to them.Brad63126

The packaging of this item was very good. There is a plastic tray in the bottom of the cage, but it is well protected in the box. I took out the crate and it was all one piece, except for the divider. I laid it on the floor and unlatched the obvious clips that were holding the crate in a flat position. There are instructions that come with this crate, but it was so easy to figure out how to fasten the sides, I did not need them. I did review the instructions after and they are very easy to follow and understand. The crate wiring is very sturdy. I have a 45 lb Springer Spaniel and he has no chance of bending the wiring. The latches will not shake open. They fold over and my dog would have to be a magician to open them. There are two entry points. On large area on the lengthy side. And a slider set of doors on the wide side. Both sides have the same type of latches. The tray is very sturdy plastic and can be cleaned very easily. The crate comes with a divider. It is made of the same wiring material. Very sturdy. I only have one dog, so I won't be using it. But it is easy to install. The weight of the crate is not too bad. It comes with a handle on top, but the width of the crate is a bit large to be carrying around far. It is mainly used for repositioning. You won't pick up the crate with your pet inside. But it makes it easy for lifting into my van without my dog inside. I cannot think of any really bad things about this crate. It is a very quality item. Very easy to use. Very easy to fold and stow away when not in use. All in one piece. To get my dog used to using it, I put some treats in the crate. He went right in and was checking it out. Springers love to be in a cave, so I put a blanket over the top and he enjoys his privacy 🙂Charlie

I really like my Lucky Dog Sliding Door Dog Crate. I am disabled so I thought I would have to have someone help me assemble it. But the hardest thing about putting it together was getting it out of the box. Once it was out, it literally took me less than a minute and that was without instructions. It was so easy to see what needed to be done: lift one wall, lift the ceiling and the other wall falls into place. One end has a door with three lift and slide type handles. You can use one, two, or all three. And the front has the sliding door which is nice for a larger animal or for putting the bed in, etc. There is a heavy duty plastic bottom so you don’t have to worry about puppy accidents. There are also plastic sleeves to go on four corners on the bottom to keep it from being fully in contact with the floor, so there’s air flow underneath. This would also protect the floor in the case of the crate moving during use. They also included four corner protectors so that you don’t bang into a sharp edge and injure yourself or damage something. Good thinking. And a really nice feature is the wire wall that locks into place if desired, making the crate a haven for 2 animals or a smaller space for a smaller dog- for instance a puppy that would be overwhelmed by such a large crate now but would need every inch of it later. No need to buy 2 crates- just insert the divider wall now and remove it when the dog has grown enough to use the space. And if I don’t need to use the crate or I need to store it, it folds flat just as it came. Brilliant! I’m sold on this crate! Only downfall is my dog is exposed to whatever is going on around him so I would have preferred to have had this to begin with. I just received this cage and the pan is broken, the bottom of the cage is bent. Wrote to the company as i want to return it and not sure i want a replacement ,it is really poorly made. Wish i could return it to Walmart ( my mistake i shouldve read more carefully )Now it looks like i'll have to pay to return. Would never buy from them again. I have bought several crates, several different brands. I prefer the single latch, this crate is very well made. However the I crate is heavier. I have french bulldogs and like both brands. The tray is very good quality and the door opening is a little undersized but not bad. Overall I would buy this crate again. It is lighter weight and very portable. Happy with this crate.573ranch

I returned this because I didn't realize it had a metal tray and I thought it would rust and be chilly for a puppy we have coming. (It's winter time as I write this review.) Also I didn't find the handle that's mentioned. I would say the quality is medium by today's standards which let's face it are crappy. The gauge on this would be fine for a smaller dogs like Westies, Mini Schnauzers, Mini Poodles. The door hooks have a curve at the end which would make them secure. We have a Great Dane that weighs 185lbs and he is quite lanky and tall, so finding something that accomodates him was not easy. This crate fits the bill. If I had to find a negative, it would be that he has to lay corner to corner in order to stretch out; but if he curls up, he is fine.This crate is going to take up ALOT OF ROOM! We knew when we ordered it that it was huge, but after it was set up, it was still a little shocking to see how much space it took up. If space is at a premium in your house, I would actually measure out how much room this crate will use before you order it, because I think you will be surprised!That being said, we are very pleased with it. It is exactly what we expected and is perfect for our Great Dane. It shipped to us within a week. Don't forget to purchase the crate tray, as they are sold separately and do not come with the crate. This kennel is HUGE! and totally worth the money (which is the best price out there) It is perfect for our Mastiff it gives him plenty of space to lay down and stretch out. and he still has room to grow. Delivery was super fast. It did take two of us to put it together but it wasn't hard It only took about 15 minutes. The only issue we had was that the front panel with the door the top clips are backwards so it doesn't hold the top like it should (you can't set anything on the top or it sags a little bit) so we just put a zip tie on it and it works great. I'm positive they would send us a new one if we requested it but it doesn't impair the structural integrity of the kennel so we didn't bother to ask. Other than that it is great and very sturdy Which we needed it to be cause our boy is a rough and tumble gentle giant with tons of puppy energy.morningstar2000

Be warned that these are a nightmare, the sizes quoted are wrong and they do not match the crate sizes stated. Why they sell them by the length of the crate when they need to fit across the width is beyond me but we had to get the 76 cm to get the right width for the 91 cm crate and it still didn't fit. Also they are too tight top to bottom so you can't remove a mattress for washing without taking it out. Poor design all round.Janet

I don’t love this cover. There is nothing to hold it onto the crate so it slips about. I am going to sew some ties onto the bottom to help keep it in place. I do like the option to open different parts of the cover for different doors on the crate. The pattern is nice and also.Little cat dog

The cover was just as I expected. Light weight, durable and easy to care for. The oy recommendation I can .American is to add velcro/hook&loop fasteners to keep the top of the cover in place. This would prevent the occupant from chewing and keep the cover in place. The for is drab but it gives the crate a dark den appearance so the occupationt is calm and content. I have found over the years that animals naturally respond favorably to a darkened environment. They are more relaxed and calm. Babies in a crate with natural, artificial, even greatly reduced lighting remain alert, peering into the darkness. They often whine, whimper, or bark, but cover the crate and within minutes, they unwind and are off to sleep. For this reason, I have put dark cloth or a blanket over my crates. These covers make it so much easier, and they don't shift or hang on the floor. They look tidier and I can vacuum around the crate without catching the cover.Zuwadi

I did some research on the Variocage dog crate. I recall they crash tested it for all 3 types of crashes. It showed several of the straps breaking, and I thought that was a bad sign. But according to info from a video posted below, the straps are only designed to keep the crate oriented in the rear of your car prior to the collision, after that the straps can break, but the crate is designed to protect effectively. The angled part of the crate abutting the rear seat disperses the force of a rear end collision over the largest surface as opposed to a square regular crate which contacts the rear seat at the point of its corner. The corners of the crate where the dog doors are (I bought a 2 dog medium crate) are blunted- that is to conform to the crumple zone of the back of your car in case of rollover- thus creating its own crumple zone. Lastly the telescoping bars allow force to be absorbed, but still protect your dog inside. The Swedish designers have outdone themselves, The cost is around $1,100 but you get what you invest in. If your goal is to get one of the safest crates for your dog, Variocrate ranks among the top 3 in my research. I picked it over the other choices because it fit into the rear of my vehicle the best. I had very good assistance before purchasing regarding size — of my dogs and of my car–and ended up with a Large Double for two English Labradors. It's a good size for them and fits just perfectly in my Subaru Outback. I found the assembly not too difficult (the video on the website helps to supplement the paper instruction sheet). The dogs have plenty of room but the space is smaller than what they are used to, so I left it set up in the house for several days so they could practice going in and out. They both seem very comfortable riding in it, and I LOVE having them safely contained — especially when they are wet (and/or muddy) from swimming. I also like that it doesn't hinder visibility for driving very much – something I was worried about when I started looking at some other crates.Robin R.

I like the Variocage products. I have the Variogate and divider In our other car. However, positioning some components to get proper bolt alignments was very challenging on this assembly. One side flange of the rear lower panel was so far out of alignment that it had to be bent to fit. Other components required clamps to achieve alignment for bolts. If I had time to wait for replacement parts, I know that they would have been gladly provided. Since I was so far along with assembly, I decided to soldier on. This is a nice looking crate and it is substantial. It is also easy to move around. The main problem with it is that the clips to open and close the doors are annoyingly difficult. Also the side garage style door is difficult to operate as well. Sometimes I just leave the top open and take my little schnauzer out the top – it's easier.Joyce

This product is a good product that can use some minor adjustments. I was surprised at how thin the pillow is. The crate has a hard bottom so the pillow should have a little thickness to it, but it does not. lf l had to guess, the pillow might be only milimeters thin. Another adjustment should be the ease of closing the side door and the sturdiness of the product when it's assembled. The side door sticks on one side of mine and the crate feels like it could collapse at times, although it never has. 0verall the product is good though and l still recommend it for its versatility.Heidi
