I really liked the quality of this training system. Over all the Pro system works as described. However, the collar attached to this system is longer than needed and shortening the strap is questionable given the contact wire that runs through the strap. Also, the strap would be more beneficial to be a snap locking system rather than a buckle. As my dog recognizes the purpose of the collar, she is not a fan, and likes to put up some resistance when having it placed on her. Given a snap system would take seconds to secure rather than a wrestling match.Runningguard

I did a lot of research on ecollars before deciding to purchase this one. I got this for a dog that is a rescue who has had some major behavior issues. I use the collar for training and he is excelling at everything. The only thing I would caution would not be specific to this ecollar but to all ecollars. Watch the fit. The band stretches after it's worn a few times and needs to be tightened on the dog's neck. Be sure to start out at the lowest level and only go up in slight increments until your dog reacts to the zap. This will prevent you from using more power than needed. I have three dogs and will be purchasing additional collars for my other two dogs. All three can work from this one remote. Switching from dog to dog is done by simply turning a dial.justjen

I’m very satisfied with the R.A.P.T. 1400, the remote is very user friendly and I’m so happy to have a back of the hand setup. Battery life on the collar itself seems to be much improved over my previous models of collar. My one and only complaint is the collar itself is already starting to separate layers, fraying at the feed point and I’ve had to trim and tape twice in less than a month of use (my other collars took years for this to happen). Training is quite enjoyable with the ergonomics of the remote and the programmable quick button is definitely a nice touch. Is this item a replacement for the RFA-577 model? The button on the training collar wore out and will not turn on the module anymore. I have gotten a solid two years out of the collar and I am very pleased with the results of responsible training for my dog. *Dominoe is a very well behaved dog and I am constantly getting compliments on his behavior. I bought this collar about a month ago. It already doesn’t work. The on and off button does not work and I’m extremely frustrated considering the money I paid for it and had hoped to buy another set of collars and control as I have 4 dogs.TiffLy

I use this collar to walk/train my rescue dogs and it works very well. This is my second one (for a smaller dog) and I recommend it for helping to keep an unruly dog under control and help them learn to behave.proclaimcd

We have two dogs about 5 months old and this is what we found. We watched the video several times as recommended and found that both dogs totally flipped out when we tried to use the collar. In the video we were told that they might act like a sack of potatoes or flip around and they did both. We did exactly what the video asked and stuck with the training and didn't give in. Both dogs flipped around and went crazy as if someone shot then in the butt with a shotgun. If they weren't flipping around they laid down and wouldn't move. They were super terrified when we put the collar on. Now if you pet them with a traditional collar on and touch anywhere near the collar they take off running and don't want anything to do with us. The DVD is great and shows you what to do and how to do it. Overall it works very well and is worth investing in if you plan on training your pets. Training runs $90 to $150 an hour which is expensive and as I found trainers train you to train your dog. Then why not use the video and save the cash. The only issues I had was the collar was a little difficult to modify, it took some effort to make it smaller and I suggest more advise on behaviors (anxious or timid dogs) would be nice because a lot more us deal with rescues.chivita40

This product saved a pound pooch. We adopted a 2 year old schnoodle (schnauzer/poodle) from a shelter. He is smart, learns tricks and basic commands quickly (with treats), but he will ignore you when he doesn't feel like obeying. His biggest issue was diving out the door any time it was opened, and when he got outside, he would run off and not return until he was finished exploring (even when called). It only took a few "stimulations" to teach him to come back when called. It has also been useful in training our "cat-dog" to stay off tables. The unit has 15 intensity settings, and we normally only have to set it on 2 or 3 (when dealing with the outside run off problem, we had to turn it up to 7 one time.) Contrary to the product directions, we use the tone feature as a warning prior to "stimulation" as we also have an electronic fence for him that uses a tone to warn him to stay in the boundaries. Therefore, trying to use the tone on the training collar as positive reinforcement would have confused him. After only 2 weeks, 99% of the time, all we have to do anytime he is disobeying in anyway is give the warning tone. He has also learned not to wander too far from me when he is off the leash. He weighs 14 lbs and has a neck circumference of 10 inches. The collar fit fine after adjusting it and cutting off the excess. The receiver is also one of the smallest of all the brands/models we looked at. Our dog has also tested the waterproof feature, as he took a dive in a swamp yesterday. Four months ago we picked up a 3 year old yellow lab at a shelter near Denver. The dog is lovable, has had some hunting experience, but was WILD when we got him. It was necessary to keep him tethered at all times, or he was GONE for 20 minutes pursuing some scent in the nearby forest (we back up to public land). I purchased this device in the hopes I could control him. To my surprise I discovered he must have had some time with a similar device. He instantly responded to the Tone/Vibration mode. When he would start to take off, one tap on that mode made him instantly come back. Only if he chased a deer on hikes did I have to "tingle" him a little. He would immediately drop the chase. Now I can take a hike with him in the forest, without a leash, & he stays right with me, if wearing the collar.mstar5

I bought the sport dog 425x for my lab a few months ago & loved it but it recently fell off him while we were walking on a trail and I was never able to find it. For the money it costs, I don’t think it should fall off that easily. I then bought the 825x, but I’m not sure I recommend this collar for extremely active dogs.esport dog collar

I have an adopted fur-baby that had a lot of control and behavior issues. Training, the usual way was just not working. I tried this and, within one day, the disruptive behavior (running and tearing up things in the house, jumping from one piece of furniture to another, non-stop barking) all stopped. He began with sitting, immediately after only two "vibrations" of the collar. By the end of the week, all I had to do was take out the remote control, say the words of sit, stay, no and wait, and he did so. Now, I don't have to use the remote at all but just say the words. I will tell you that, under no circumstances would I recommend the "shock" feature. Because it is easily changed on this model, by accident, I found out, the hard way just how much it hurts the animal. If you click MODE, by accident, from it being on vibrate, it switches over to Shock. BE VERY CAREFUL when you are about to use the Y button, for sound or vibration as, if it's on shock–and this was the very low setting–the dog whelps loudly and jumps, shakes, etc. I would not recommend it for any animal lover as, I don't even want to know what it feels like. Because the vibration is strong, even on low settings, and the other setting of "beep" is a high frequency sound, I found them the most effective. Thebeep sound is for Guiness (my new family member) to come–I use the vibration for correction, when needed. Guiness was the most difficult dog that I have worked with and I have behavioral training for dogs, which I have used for all of my pets. If this worked on him, it will work on most dogs that have behavioral issues. I would recommend it for the vibration and sound settings–and hope to get one that doesn't have the shock setting as, I feel that is just inhumane to use on a dog (my opinion after seeing how he reacted, on just a low setting). PLEASE USE CAREFULLY until you are used to the remote. That is my only advice when purchasing this for training.kelly4jesus

I am, so far, very happy with the design of the collar and remote handset. I especially like that you can do either vibrate OR static corrections with this set, AND can adjust the level of stimulation, immediately, for each. My only complaint is that the slide on clip is NOT useful. It does not grab either a collar, belt, or pocket, to any real degree. It slips off easily and drops to the ground, to be either lost or damaged. It would be better to design a stronger spring clip or clamp that is stronger. Because it continues to fall from where it is clipped, I am forced to hold it in my hand continually. Giving the dog a visual cue that I have control handy. It is more useful for the dog no not be able to connect such an association. Putting it in my pocket results in a possible inadvertent correction to the dog unnecessarily. Although I like many aspects of this product, and being a professional dog trainer, it would be nice to be able to recommend an affordable, good quality product. But because of the handset clip, I hesitate to do so. If this design was addressed, I would recommend it.dpcclm

My dog used to jump on anyone that came over and she was hard headed about listening. Been using for about a month now and have only shocked her once (on level 2) and now she listen with or with out wearing collar. We still put it on her every day and especially if company is coming over, but she knows when she hears the beep she's gone to far in pushing her luck. Most of time beep gets back in line and if not vibrate does. Can't beleave we waited so long to get one. Now friends and family can come over again and we don't worry about her jumping up on our guest particularly little kids. We put it on her in the morning and take it off before bed time and turn collar off at night and battery will last almost 2 weeks on collar before charging (wonted to see how long battery would last between charges) , Generally now we charge it once a week over night and haven't had it die yet while she's been wearing it. Can't say how water proof it is at this point haven't allowed her in the water with it yet. Only complaint is as others have stated it's easy to change channels on transmitter if your not paying attention. But have gotten used to looking at transmitter before pushing button. Besides If your going from Beep to vibrate your gonna wanna see what you have it set to before you use transmitter again, so I don't find it that big of a deal.jnmpatterson4

I purchased this one as I wanted a wireless version vs the perimeter one I had to bury. We use this when we go fishing as well as around the house. We have only had to use the continuous shock once at level 2. The tone works so well we dont really need the other features but we have them just in case, our dog decides to be really stubborn in the future. My favorite is how easy it is to use, charge and the fact the tone is the best way to get my dog's attention. It has not taken long for him to know the remote goes to his collar and that just showing him he knows to heel or the tone sound will come on and get his attention quickly. My sister is purchasing one as well since my purchase, as she has seen how much it has helped our strong willed dog. He just needed a little extra guidance for his safety as we live off a highway and next to woods with coyotes. Literally bought this as my second attempt first was a petsafe wireless fence and it wasn’t as user friendly as this petsport with a remote. I’m able to keep basic corrections in house and outside in the yard! I was worried it wouldn’t be small enough for my mini Heeler but the collar comes with an abundant amount of holes for proper fit on anything ! Supper pleased with the collar and the three bases it has for training. The beep tone the one hit simulation and the longer hit stimulation gives me theee options to ask my dog according to what she’s doing. I like that it can be supper mild and allow her the chance to be asked nicely and then reinforced mildly and then reinforcement with a sterner setting. A true life saver. My pup was running out to the neighbors across the street and up to meet cars it literally only took thirty mins in house training on basics and then outside yard training for a little under an hour! I am now no longer stressed about her getting hurt she comes right back to me and treats me as I am her safe spot! I had borrowed the same collar from my daughter for about a month, but she needed it back, so for the past two months he had begun to get a little independent in the woods. As soon as I put the new Arc collar around his neck, he was a changed dog. Even without paging him, he began to hunt about 75 yards out and would return to check on me every few minutes. Whenever he gets out of sight, and seems to wander too long, I simply "page" him about three seconds and he comes running. Only twice in the past week have I had to stimulate him, somewhere between level 6 and 11. Then for a day or two after that, only the pager button is needed to turn him around. I have always been apprehensive of shock collars, but my dog was back-tracking on her training. She has always behaved very well on a leash, just to forget that training when the leash comes off. In only 2 weeks of use, this collar has worked like a charm! I have only had to shock once- the vibration and beep modes are enough to correct her. I had a waterproof beeper before. I learned quickly after drowning it. It is not submersible. Now. I know the difference. And this one is a keeper. I love its freedom. I love to walk around the neighborhood pond with our dog, Louise. She loves to play fetch, Especially in the pond. When others walk by she wants to greet them enthusiastically. She normally follows my commands. But when people are involved she can be out of control happy. Anyway this beeper let’s her enjoying fetching in the water, and obeying my “here” command as well. This e-collar is definitely worth the extra money hands down as its a safer option for counter-conditioning out some nasty habits. Whether it be resource guarding, dog based aggressive tendencies, human based reactivity, or long-term rehabilitation of stubborn habits. This collar is the way to go. Larger dogs require larger solutions and this collar is much more comfortable as its not as sharp compared to some. this e collar is amazing. My 100lb plotthound is a wanderer. When the other two dogs were out playing in the yard, we'd have to keep him on a long lead, which prevented him from fully playing free with our other dogs. … we tried numerous times to start on the lead, then let him off and continuously do call and reward, but eventually, he'd always sneak over to the neighbors. With The Boss I'm able to correct his behavior from across the yard. It took less than one week to get him fully trained. Works on my 120lb Pyrenees lab mutt! He has thick hair. Hes stubborn as all heck. I had to turn the power down to 35% there is plenty left if a deer comes I can juice it up for his safety (if needed.) most of the time 35 will stop him. I rarely need to shock him now. He knows how to win. The only thing I use the collar for is the come here command as that is the most important command ever and I dont want to confuse him. I think it was worth the money as everything is water proof and much higher quality than our last $60 one513briang

Hatch where 9V battery goes in sticks, looks like it was not manufactured with good tolerances from the factory. There is a visible burr on the edge where it goes in. Clasp is too small and the tongue of it is not secure to the rest of assembly, so it wiggles and moves when you try to put in in a hole. Otherwise a good product electronically. I originally ordered this training collar about a month ago. The first one did not work. I just received the replacement today. I does not work either. The charge indicator light on the collar is green and the remote light works. It does not shock though. it would not activate the tester light, and I even tried it on my leg. NOTHING! Bought this a year & half ago. Never worked as advertised. Flaky – sometimes worked, sometimes not. Bought it mostly for vibrate mode, which is useful for training more than tones. But, then I discovered the unit is NOT water-proof, or even water resistant – and my dogs love to romp in creeks. The collar unit acquired an accumulation of moisture…and quit working completely. Took it apart, dried out for several days, and it started to work again… only sometimes – just like before. Then it died completely. Waste of time & $$. Poor quality and quality control. Internal circuit board appears to be hand soldered (& poor job), and cheap offshore battery. Does not hold a charge as long as other brands (runs down in less than a day, w/ no use), & remote uses 9v battery instead of rechargeable. Poor design. Will not buy any DT Systems product again. We bought these training collars 5 yrs ago. As dog owners this is the BEST investment/tool we've ever bought! We bought the 2 collar in 1 pack, in case 1 collar broke we'd have a backup. That ended up working out well because we got a German Shepherd 2 yrs down the road. Both of my girls are so well behaved with the collars on! We have only had to use the static maybe 5 times between the both of them. Once they learned it was their correction the beep worked from then on. My girls play rough. I've dropped the hand controller at least 100x's and everything still works like the day we bought it! It's help teach our girls the yard perimeter, walk off leash in the neighborhood, and get their attention when let out late if they start barking. After seeing so many bad reviews for other collars I wanted to save anyone else from other brands. You can't beat the price on this collar. It charges way faster than others (experience w/this frustration). The handheld piece seems to never need to be charged. They give you great advice on trainingafogle

We have a new , very smart and very active male german sheperd puppy. The boys can be a little harder to train . I got this initially because he howled in his kennel literally all night unless somebody slept next to the kennel . I only use the vibrate function, and thats been enough to stop even his most persistent behaviors. Its seriously crazy how well this works! I wish I’d tried one in the past with our other dogs. From the beginning whenever id press the button he would immediately stop and sit at attention. Id already taught him sit , lay down and stay before we got the collar. Its pretty hilarious because sometimes i buzz him and he sits down , then he looks around trying to figure out what got him 🤣 I highly recommend getting one of these to train your dog. It takes so much less effort to push a button for persistent behaviors . We have five kids , so the house is pretty hectic at times . Battery life is horrible! We only put on the dog when we let her outside or if there is company over. It's turned off after every use, the dog hates being outside and it's only on for 10-15mins at a time and we are lucky to get 1.5 weeks out of it. Recently the product will not even stay on. Everything is paired, brand new batteries, and the thing shuts off after about 10 seconds…. Only reason it's not in the garbage is we paid so much for it…. In hopes we can figure out a solution. Simply remove the battery tray and gently pinch the tabs inward with something such as a small screw driver so that when you put a fresh set of batteries into the collar they will be pinched by these tabs more efficiently and the collar will stay on. I have now owned two of the big dog collars. The first one I used on my dog for a week. batteries died twice in that week. I went to change the batteries again and the only thing left on my dog was a collar with two holes in it, that was why it wasn't working. Then I returned it to my favorite ranch store where exchanged, the parts I had, for a new one. I never did find the rest of the collar. I put the new one on my dog, not realizing that the problem was the prongs, and I lost the second one by night's end. I will say a bonus is that I called customer service and they are sending me a new one. Hopefully this will work better than the last two. Tried both the "Little" and the Big Dog Trainer, returned both. Neither had enough stimulation on high (8) to get my dogs attention. My dog is still a puppy only 13 weeks old and I wanted to start teaching basics manners and commands. I thought it wasn't working, so I held it in my hand on high, barely noticeable ! The dog was sleeping and I made contact with him firmly and when the stimulation was applied, he didn't even wake up ! I owned both the "elite" and the wireless fence 5-6 years ago and either of those on a medium setting (4-5) held in your hand would make you drop it. Don't know if they have reduced the output on these products or what ? No one wants to hurt their dog, but they have to have enough stimulation to work. These did not or at least not on my dog. This really is a tremendously different product. 127 settings seemed overwhelming to me. As I use this more and more as I train my dog, I’m able to see what that really means. In the past, collars I’ve used only had a few settings, so moving up or down a notch so to say was a dramatic difference, while the dogtra allows me to fine tune the stim very minimally until I find my dogs “number” for the variety of situations. I feel this is really helping the bond with my dog and therefore training is improved.MountainGSD

I bought the Dogtra 280C to use with my very active and agile 1 year old Toy Austrailian Sheppard for stopping unwanted behaviors like digging up my lawn and attacking the cat. The transmitter and receiver both hold charges for days, and easily sync by just holding the two units next to one another at the red dots for a second. The 1/2 mile range is more than enough to reach out and touch her for a friendly reminder to come in for supper. The LCD screen is super nice to see stimulation level at night or when I don't have my glasses with me. My girlfriend owns my dogs twin brother, he also needed corrective training, therefor being as pleased as I am with the performance of my Dogtra 280C, I couldn't help but buy one for her to use with him as well.Red Dogg 47

I am dog trainer, I have been using Electric Collars for over 15 years. I was married with another major brand for me it was the best brand on electric collars I even refused to try new ones. One day I was traveling to a seminar in Denver with my Mondioring sport dog and the TSA at the airport remove my 2 electric collars from my carry on bag. Once in the seminar I met a participant who has an extra 300TS and she offered to sell the collar to me I was in need of a collar so I agree and bought the collar from her. At the end of the 1rst day of the seminar I was almost convinced that the 300TS was superior to my other collars even my most expensive one. When I came back home I begin trying the 300TS with new dogs and I found it was far superior at every level. Let's begin, the handheld unit is very light and still fell very solid the buttons placement are very intuitive and is almost impossible to deliver the wrong correction to your dog, The vibration mode can be switched to sound mode which is the way I train my recall I always disable the vibrate mode and use the sound mode this great with skeptical people around electric collars. There is 2 delivery buttons the black which is the stem mode and the red which is the boost and deliver up to 20 times your stem level but thiscan be modified to fit you dogs needs, The level of electricity can be locked making impossible to shock your dog. The receiver has light which it can be us as flashlight or to locate your dog in those real dark nightsringdogs

Highly recommend! My dog never came when called . Now she does . She had other really unwanted behaviors that we had such a hard time getting rid of like nipping at our knees to get attention, pulling on her collar, bark at other dogs, and even rip the leash out of our hands while trying to walk her and run crazily through the backyard. We've tried everything- positive reinforcement, harnesses, muzzles,all types of collars and leashes-nothing…ever…worked… After a bit of training I don’t even have to press the button, She knows it’s there. We are now working on off-leash training and it's working beautifully.Heidi D.

It took me awhile to really use this product consistently, but I'm glad I did. I have a stubborn bulldog mix that I rescued from my local animal shelter and she had lots of bad habits that were getting worse over time. My dog's biggest problems were leash pulling, not listening to come/sit, jumping on our bed and – worst of all – aggression toward other dogs, usually while on walks, and even my husband. I looked into sending her away to a local training camp that was very expensive. When I got their paperwork, one of the terms of agreement was you had to buy and use this model of training collar. Before spending thousands of dollars, I decided to try to train her myself using this collar and send her to camp if it didnt work since I would have to buy and learn to use the collar either way. I highly recommend educating yourself properly first before you start training your dog with ANY e-collar. I watched all of the training videos on the official e-collar technologies website, ecollar.com, and that helped alot with training my dog. Now, walks are actually fun and I'm not worried about my dog hurting my husband or other dogs, and I'm not stressed out by my dog's behavior anymore. I cant emphasize enough to start slow with the remote to avoid freaking the dog out – a lot of bad behavior comes from anxiety and fear, you don't want to make it worse. This really is a tremendously different product. 127 settings seemed overwhelming to me. As I use this more and more as I train my dog, I’m able to see what that really means. In the past, collars I’ve used only had a few settings, so moving up or down a notch so to say was a dramatic difference, while the dogtra allows me to fine tune the stim very minimally until I find my dogs “number” for the variety of situations. I feel this is really helping the bond with my dog and therefore training is improved.MountainGSD

I bought the Dogtra 280C to use with my very active and agile 1 year old Toy Austrailian Sheppard for stopping unwanted behaviors like digging up my lawn and attacking the cat. The transmitter and receiver both hold charges for days, and easily sync by just holding the two units next to one another at the red dots for a second. The 1/2 mile range is more than enough to reach out and touch her for a friendly reminder to come in for supper. The LCD screen is super nice to see stimulation level at night or when I don't have my glasses with me. My girlfriend owns my dogs twin brother, he also needed corrective training, therefor being as pleased as I am with the performance of my Dogtra 280C, I couldn't help but buy one for her to use with him as well.Red Dogg 47

I was scared of e-collars. But this morning we had the most excellent training session with my huge puppy. He gets to run and play and explore and his recall was PERFECT for the first time thanks to the collar! We're early in the training, but I am SUPER impressed so far. Just amazing.dferret

The 435 X series is really nice and has a small remote control that fits into my hand (I am only 5'4). The XS series is stronger (for large dogs that can be stubborn) and was too much for my need… that's why I really wanted the X series. The 825 X is the same as the 425 X except is has a longer distance reach (1/2 mile) but the remote is a little big bigger. Works great…. make sure you read the manual for the different settings and understand that this is not a training tool per say but a corrective tool (meaning your dog has to know and understand commands BEFORE using it)…Do NOT use as a punitive tool. The nice thing is this item allows you to choose either tone, vibration, or static mode. 99% of the time I only need to use vibration for my dog to get his attention (he cN get sobfocused on a scent that he doesn't pay attention to my commands). He sometimes takes off after a rabbit/wild pig etc. and that's when I have to use the static mode to quickly get his attention away from his chase. I really like that it is waterproof (my dog swims into ponds and rivers)…some other brands claim to be waterproof but really mean to say water resistant! If it doesn't show water depth then it is not waterproof. Quality product worth the money.Noone12345

I have tried everything I knew with this dog, built a relationship with him, treats, toys, praise and I wasn’t able to find anything that would motivate him to actually follow the commands that I knew he knew. I was afraid to use a “shock collar” because I thought it was going to be cruel but it had been 5 months where this 3 year old pit was with me and there seemed to be no progress. I really was not able to find something that worked. I was at a loss and willing to try just about anything. I watched some of the training videos on sportdog’s page. I ended up buying this and I charged it up like they said. I then tried it on myself first. I was very surprised, it reminded me of a tens machine that the chiropractor uses, not what I thought it was going to be at all. It’s been 3 days since I started to use this collar (425XS) and he is responding to voice commands now and the “beep” function on the collar. It is a pleasure taking him out and I’m sure he enjoys not having to be on just a 6’ leash and he gets to run around.Trucker Jeff

Bought this for the intention of training my bulldog to stop running out of our driveway. Never had to use the vibration setting only the beep setting, and seems to work perfectly. Plenty of length on the collar to fit his big neck and then some . Also have used it on my schnauzer and mini doodle .Dawggang
