I have a small dog, a French Brittany, and thought lower levels of stimulation might be too much as the range is only 1 to 16. But the lower level ranges are fine. Never had to go up past level 5. I’ve had the unit a little over three months. Service was great. Because of the small neck size, and the placement of the stimulation unit and the beeper, it was impossible for me to just put new holes in the collar to tighten it up. I sent it back and they moved them closer together to permit additional holes for my dogs neck size. At no cost. Compared to other collars, for what this offers, it is a great price. I bought this collar because I lost my controller for my tri tronics g3 exp in the field on a Montana hunt. I was happy with my old system but didn't wan't to buy garmin after they changed the product and didn't take care of their customers. I am happy I went with D.T. and I like this system better. The beeper system is what makes this collar better. I really like using the beeper to locate my dog in thick cover. I also like the fact that the controller is light and orange so I have a better chance of finding it if for some reason I misplace it. This product saved a pound pooch. We adopted a 2 year old schnoodle (schnauzer/poodle) from a shelter. He is smart, learns tricks and basic commands quickly (with treats), but he will ignore you when he doesn't feel like obeying. His biggest issue was diving out the door any time it was opened, and when he got outside, he would run off and not return until he was finished exploring (even when called). It only took a few "stimulations" to teach him to come back when called. It has also been useful in training our "cat-dog" to stay off tables. The unit has 15 intensity settings, and we normally only have to set it on 2 or 3 (when dealing with the outside run off problem, we had to turn it up to 7 one time.) Contrary to the product directions, we use the tone feature as a warning prior to "stimulation" as we also have an electronic fence for him that uses a tone to warn him to stay in the boundaries. Therefore, trying to use the tone on the training collar as positive reinforcement would have confused him. After only 2 weeks, 99% of the time, all we have to do anytime he is disobeying in anyway is give the warning tone. He has also learned not to wander too far from me when he is off the leash. He weighs 14 lbs and has a neck circumference of 10 inches. The collar fit fine after adjusting it and cutting off the excess. The receiver is also one of the smallest of all the brands/models we looked at. Our dog has also tested the waterproof feature, as he took a dive in a swamp yesterday. I have had training collars that cost north of $200. This collar des more and is perfect for dog training. I can normally use only sound, sometimes vibrate and very seldom have to resort to "shock". When I have though I never have to do it again to correct that behavior problem. Only thing I noticed annoying is the firmness required on the buttons. I purchased this one as I wanted a wireless version vs the perimeter one I had to bury. We use this when we go fishing as well as around the house. We have only had to use the continuous shock once at level 2. The tone works so well we dont really need the other features but we have them just in case, our dog decides to be really stubborn in the future. My favorite is how easy it is to use, charge and the fact the tone is the best way to get my dog's attention. It has not taken long for him to know the remote goes to his collar and that just showing him he knows to heel or the tone sound will come on and get his attention quickly. Literally bought this as my second attempt first was a petsafe wireless fence and it wasn’t as user friendly as this petsport with a remote. I’m able to keep basic corrections in house and outside in the yard! This really is a tremendously different product. 127 settings seemed overwhelming to me. As I use this more and more as I train my dog, I’m able to see what that really means. I bought the Dogtra 280C to use with my very active and agile 1 year old Toy Austrailian Sheppard for stopping unwanted behaviors like digging up my lawn and attacking the cat. The 435 X series is really nice and has a small remote control that fits into my hand (I am only 5'4). The XS series is stronger (for large dogs that can be stubborn) and was too much for my need… that's why I really wanted the X series. The 825 X is the same as the 425 X except is has a longer distance reach (1/2 mile) but the remote is a little big bigger. Works great…. make sure you read the manual for the different settings and understand that this is not a training tool per say but a corrective tool (meaning your dog has to know and understand commands BEFORE using it)…Do NOT use as a punitive tool. The nice thing is this item allows you to choose either tone, vibration, or static mode. 99% of the time I only need to use vibration for my dog to get his attention (he cN get sobfocused on a scent that he doesn't pay attention to my commands). He sometimes takes off after a rabbit/wild pig etc. and that's when I have to use the static mode to quickly get his attention away from his chase. I really like that it is waterproof (my dog swims into ponds and rivers)…some other brands claim to be waterproof but really mean to say water resistant! I have tried everything I knew with this dog, built a relationship with him, treats, toys, praise and I wasn’t able to find anything that would motivate him to actually follow the commands that I knew he knew. We have a new , very smart and very active male german sheperd puppy. The boys can be a little harder to train . I got this initially because he howled in his kennel literally all night unless somebody slept next to the kennel . I only use the vibrate function, and thats been enough to stop even his most persistent behaviors. Its seriously crazy how well this works! I wish I’d tried one in the past with our other dogs. Our dog is still loving and playful, but is no longer terrorizing the house. I am eating right next to her and she's simply chewing on a toy. Before, I could never leave her out of her cage unless I was directly on top of her. I combine verbal commands with either vibration or beeping, and treats. I haven't tried the shock, and I hope I never have to. I don't see how it would shock because there is rubber over the electrodes… Also, it is disappointing to see the amount of people on here who say they bought this to essentially electrocute their dogs simply because they got breeds they have no idea how to handle. Do I know how to handle a gigantic, stubborn dog? Absolutely not, and that's why I got one that fits my abilities. Dogs are a hug decision. For many people, you do need to shop around a lot until you find your friend. You can't walk into a shelter or store and pick up just any dog and expect everything to work out.
This helped immediately. He was already aware of the beeping because of the underground fence. This helped let him know very quickly to stop the behavior that was making him hard to handle. I highly recommend this. My dog is a German Shepard mix and he did feel the shock the few times we had to use it.
I have had this for a few weeks and I'm very happy. New puppy did not want to listen this is a great tool because you have the beep the vibration and the shock.I have never had to use anything but the beep most of the time and the vibration once in awhile have never used the shock. It works great would highly recommend. never have to touch the dog, or raise your voice.

I wanted to revamp my review but I don't see a way so I am writing a new one. I had this collar and it seemed like it was getting weaker and weaker but (after trial and error) I realized it wasn't the collar or remote, it was my dog's fur! When her winter coat came in it was shielding her from the prongs and making it harder to feel. Once I figured it out and started moving it back and forth on her neck (right under her chin) to get the probes in the right spot it worked great! We have had this for 11 months now and couldn't be happier. It works like a charm and SportDog and LLBean are awesome to work with. So glad I didn't give up on it!nmob2004
As the owner of 2 of the older Sport Dog collars I had become a believer in the quality and ease of use of their electronic collars. Not so on the 875. I expected an improved system but I found just the opposite. The sound and shock buttons have been relocated from the front to the sides. Sound on the left and stimulation of the right. In the action if depressing the sound button it is all to easy to squeeze your hand and also activate one of the shock buttons. You have to program in various operational options. The user interface is not intuitive and you pretty much need the manual to set/reset your desired mode. The on/off switch on the collar is far more difficult to activate than the old models. On levels 1 and 2 there was zero stimulation on my unit. (tested on myself to verify). The sound level also is very soft. I tried it for several months thinking I would get used to it but finally returned it. I did like the orange color but that was my only like.goanna

I really liked the quality of this training system. Over all the Pro system works as described. However, the collar attached to this system is longer than needed and shortening the strap is questionable given the contact wire that runs through the strap. Also, the strap would be more beneficial to be a snap locking system rather than a buckle. As my dog recognizes the purpose of the collar, she is not a fan, and likes to put up some resistance when having it placed on her. Given a snap system would take seconds to secure rather than a wrestling match.Runningguard
I did a lot of research on ecollars before deciding to purchase this one. I got this for a dog that is a rescue who has had some major behavior issues. I use the collar for training and he is excelling at everything. The only thing I would caution would not be specific to this ecollar but to all ecollars. Watch the fit. The band stretches after it's worn a few times and needs to be tightened on the dog's neck. Be sure to start out at the lowest level and only go up in slight increments until your dog reacts to the zap. This will prevent you from using more power than needed. I have three dogs and will be purchasing additional collars for my other two dogs. All three can work from this one remote. Switching from dog to dog is done by simply turning a dial.justjen
I’m very satisfied with the R.A.P.T. 1400, the remote is very user friendly and I’m so happy to have a back of the hand setup. Battery life on the collar itself seems to be much improved over my previous models of collar. My one and only complaint is the collar itself is already starting to separate layers, fraying at the feed point and I’ve had to trim and tape twice in less than a month of use (my other collars took years for this to happen). Training is quite enjoyable with the ergonomics of the remote and the programmable quick button is definitely a nice touch. I purchased an orange one and a black one. The orange one is fine and works great. The black one is clearly a refurbished piece of garbage. It was nice being able to confirm that because I purchased two (a burden that should not be in any consumer with only one dog). The beeping (during noise only function) is at a significantly lower decimal than the orange one. AND…the stimulation is much weaker. They will not send me a new item. I purchased this collar for a new puppy I am training. I am very pleased to have the Tone/Vibration stimulation before going to shock. I have owned several collars over the years and purchased this to replace a Tri-Tronics XLS. The construction is lightweight, yet durable. Button placement is thoughtful and gives me quick control of the stimulation and beeper. I like the flexible configuration; even though, I had to call SportDog tech support to get it set the way I wanted. (they were very helpful and spent some time with me to understand how I wanted to use the collar before walking me through the setup) I would recommend this collar. The e collar portion works great, the audible location beacon is far from what I expected. It was money wasted. The point function is always on, so if the dog stops for 10 seconds it goes off. I called Sportdog and they told me that’s how it’s supposed to be. It’s too bad because as a located it would be great but it is always going off when the dog takes drinks, pauses, and cannot be worn unless full out hunting.Klassch
I am disappointed that the collar receiver (shock/vibrate) portion does not respond to the tone. I thought that there would be tone, vibrate and shock capability of the shock portion of this collar. The tone button only works the beeper which is useless if the beeper is not on the dog. Also upset that the locate function of the beeper does not have the capability to change the tone from the tone that is already in use on the dog. I would like the locate to be able to have a louder tone than the tone beeping on the dog that I already can't hear.johnostrum

disappointed. Its a poor design. The rounded part (NOT the part against the dogs neck) is what really vibrates. My dog (35lb spaniel) doesn't seem to feel it!
