Buckle that holds the collar closed is cheaply made. Used it to take my dog for a walk and after a couple of pulls the collar came right apart. Put it back on and soon after the same thing happened. With the collar off the dog you can simply pull the two ends apart in your hands. This product is just for show, not for use.Jenn
While I love the look of this collar, the clasp design is very unreliable. While the outer receptacle of the claps is metal, the inside is plastic. It's very week, and the collar flies off with the slightest pull. Sometimes it flies off of my Doberman when she barks with some spirit. If the clasp was made with metal on both pieces, I suspect it would work better.Gabrielle

I purchased this collar maybe 3 months ago and the buckle now pops open when my dog pulls on his collar, whether it be on his leash when he sees a squirrel or at the vet while they are just holding him into place. My dog is 55lbs and barely pulls on his leash, only when he sees small animals. Not impressed the buckle! I really liked the collar but I would prefer it if the buckle didn't break or if it was more like the belt style.Grace

As a pet owner I was very concerned sense the collar wasn't very tight at all, I don't want this happening to anyone else's baby. I did reach out to Carhartt to inform them of this defect and they seemed concerned and offered to replace it with a better collar. They ended up not replacing it and continued to give us the run around. We also did send photos in to show how harmful it was. I loved there product but it's super disappointing they don't stand by there word. Carhartt is more expensive then most clothing so it's just frustrating I payed good money For a product that is supposed to be durable and safe. Just don't understand.Stella

To begin with; our pooch is a tall & lean 92lb Catahoula mix with a deep chest. He's a big boy, but I'd not say especially long. I mention the legnth because the XL Carhartt jacket isn't long enough… stopping 3" short of our Catahoula's tail. Despite his deep chest, the lower straps are at least 4" too long & must be overlapped with more than 2" protruding on both sides. The front strap is also a bit too long but less than 2". The Velcro holds well but we've only used the jacket a few times so far – I've read less than positive reviews about the Velcro not holding up past a year – a buckle would be nice (& we may add this). The jacket is rather stiff & when our dog turns or manuvers, the rear portion swings out a little left/right (like a hoop skirt) away from the ribcage, leaving the rump exposed, but this isn't a big deal & the stiffness will probably relax somewhat after repeated use &/or a wash. There's no opening for a harness, but an opening could be cut & nicely stitched pretty easily – we're going to do this. Having said all that we do like the jacket – it's made of tough Carhartt fabric (VERY important for adventurous doggies!), it stays in place even during vigorous rabbit chases through deep brush & offers very good protection… keeping in mind there's NO coverage underneath. We plan to get an additional "sweater" type garment to be worn as a base layer on colder days.Catahoulas are awesome
Fit is perfect using measurements provided in size chart. Lining is not as thick as I would have hoped for but I think it will work just fine since we don't have extreme winters. To my surprise the boy loves his over coat, he goes bananas when I take it out. We love ruffwear! Have been using their products for 5 years already, love the designs and materials they use but mann what’s going on with the stitching ?? It sucks when the stitching starts coming loose within days/weeks of use, i got two dogs and it feels like you got a 50-50 chance that you will get a product with defective stitching, Got two collars, the “ruffwear” tag started coming loose within a few weeks of use on one of those. Got two leashes, the buckle to use around the waist broke in two days!! I have 2 beagles a little over a year old and these are the second Ruffwear collars they’ve had. I bought new ones because they grew out of their old ones and, honestly, I wanted a new look on them. For the number of tags I need to have on my dog, separate attachment points for tags and leash are a must. Everything on one ring would be a difficult mess. My Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy is growing quickly, and making small size adjustments a couple times each week is no problem. Once set, it stays set no matter how hard he pulls, no matter if the collar is dry or wet. The webbing hardly absorbs odors, and a quick wash and air dry gets rid of what little there was. My only regret is that my rough-and-tumble beast of a puppy will outgrow his medium collar in another month. Seems like good construction. I liked the pads on top to prevent pinching, but overall, it is still the same standard harness you can get everywhere. Unfortunately, I am still on the hunt for a good harness to use for running with my dog. The harness rubbed under his armpits and rubbed them raw. I bought this about 2 weeks ago my dog pulled on the leash so bad I mean I couldnot get a handle on her I was using a flat collar she kept choking herself on it then i switched her to a herm sprenger she was to sensitive to it and it stained her neck I heard a professional dog trainer talking about this and I remember him saying this is great for dogs that are sensitive to the metal prongs so I said ok you know what I’ll order it it’s only 10 bucks we’ll see and WOW JUST WOW ! My 75 lb boxer is on the adjunct staff of my cardiologist. His job is to walk me, hard, every day, 30-45 min. I have osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis as well as heart issues. When I used the training collar for the first time, it was like magic. Those plastic teeth work perfectly. Before, the dog usually behaved, but a nearby squirrel, or another dog, could be too much temptation to pull. Now, the gentlest tug and the usual "Leave it" command keep us walking like pros. I have little trouble disconnecting the links, but really, folks, surely you can add large tips to the cord ends instead of permanently joining them to a ring: one tip is the leash loop and male connector; the other is the female connector and release button. How hard is that? Connected, the collar fits with proper snugness after the owner adds or removes links. Disconnected, the collar opens so far it will slip over the dog's head and ears with ease. No more complaints from owners of impatient, wiggly dogs. Sure, this would add a dollar or five to the price. Big deal. Ease of use would be worth it. I have a 100 pound dog and it pulled so bad that nobody in the house could walk it except for me. And it was a struggle even for me. I had to keep an eye on her at all times because is she took out after a squirrel or something and I wasnt prepared, she would either break free or throw my shoulder out. I did some research and came across this collar and it had some good reviews, so I got one. My dog stopped pulling INSTANTLY!!! No joke!! She was like, What the heck???, and has never pulled since! Shell sort of pull, but nothing at all like before. Now my 90 pound 10 year old walks her easily. This collar worked so good, I got another one for my much smaller Australian Shepard, and now she dont pull anymore either. The collar seems well made and its easy to adjust. I have had this since January of 2018, best purchase IMO, is it perfect? No, does it work really really well? Yes it does. Is it sometimes slow to lock onto your phone? Yes, easy fix as I turn the collar and receiver on prior to getting ready or when we get into the car, that way everything is good to go when its time to go. The longest it has taken to acquire and lock on to my phone had been around 5 minutes. I use this several (3-4) times and week and haven't had any issues with the collar prongs bothering my dogs neck or causing issues. IMO it is an excellent value for the cost and its peace of mind knowing I know where my dog is at all times.Alexis
So far I have not used this to train my pup. My pup is to young (only 4 months). I have down load the App to my I Phone & have set it up for use. So far everything has been straight forward & easy to set up. The website for the product contains a lot of information on how to use this product for training & for Trouble Shooting if needed. So far I am very Please with this product & the companies website. The product appears to be well built, at a great price with good company support in place.med5667-1
This collar has tracked my husky as she ran off leash while out on hikes. It shows on our phones where she is, when she stops running, when she barks and what path she takes. It is neat to be able to watch the paths she takes when chasing the deer in the woods. It has tracked her over half a mile away. My only comment – which has more to do with my dog than the collar – is that the shocks don’t seem to phase her. I think her fur may be too thick.Dallas

I have the best off-leash dog in the world. She is non-reactive to other dogs and always stays with me on hikes. She is a lab so loves to jump into creeks. I bought a RadDog collar when she was younger and she outgrew it and at the time it was the largest size they had so that was really disappointing. I used other types of similar idea collars but they all failed after a while (maybe because of swimming in the collar). Eventually I looked and was delighted to see a larger version and bought it so I'm thrilled to have my Luna wearing her RadDog collar again. It makes it so easy to grab her leash when we are passing other people and dogs on a hike – not because she will do anything but they don't know that – really just to be polite. And for areas where a leash is required, it at least looks like she is on leash 😉Jill G
We are on our third All-In-One collar/leash and think this is a fabulous product. The only reason we don't give it full stars is that it would be wonderful if the company would make it so that these could be repaired. It seems like a big waste to throw it all away when the line gets frayed and breaks…which has happened on each of the leashes that we've owned. Maybe the line should have a metal cable to make it more durable? Or there could be a send back in for repair option? Thanks otherwise for a very handy and useful invention!
Used this leash for the first time the other day, and love the idea behind this product. If you walk your dog off leash, you will love this product. No more having to worry about trying to leash your dog quickly when other people/animals pass. I do agree with a previous review. The wrist portion of the leash could be a little bigger, especially if you live somewhere cold and need gloves. Initially I thought the product might be too bulky, but it didn't bother my dog at all. Really like the collar. My dog has neck problems, so it is nice to have a strong lightweight collar to keep his ID tags on. However, one day he was scratching his neck and separated the metal on the ID tag attachment, and I replaced it with a stronger loop ID attachment ring. Tried the L on my 55lb dog and its WAY too small, tried the XL and its WAY too big. Super disappointed in the poor sizing. Returning the coat for the 2nd and last time. Unfortunate as its lovely but it also needs to fit an average sized dog. L would likely fit 35-42 lb dog and XL a 85 plus. No point in trying this if your dog is "average" sized. I work in construction and basically live in Carhartt pants and overalls, when I saw this item I saw an opportunity to make my dog my mini me. To my surprise the boy loves his over coat, he goes bananas when I take it out. This leash has unclipped a few times from the matching collar I bought my dog. The first 2 times I thought I had incorrectly clasped it, however after walking more then half a mile with my dog in a training session I am confident that the leash was clipped correctly. My dog pulled at a bird and the leash came unclipped, leaving me to try and find my dog for more then an hour.. Not sure this is a very safe or reliable product..Lochlann
So dangerous. The clasp has come off multiple times and lead my dog to run off on the road. He’s a young pup so he’s in training and this is absolutely ridiculous! You think you’d have better quality clasp control since the leash was double the price of regular leashes. Very upset about this as it continues to occur. Also only had the leash for a couple months and it’s faded/tearing. Not impressed AT ALL. Will be throwing this leash out to prevent from further scares.Julia
