I love this gate, especially for the price! I had to cover an 8 foot area and its perfect. My little one is 1 1/2 and he likes to shake it. Each end is connected into studs so it wiggles but its secure. Both sides have a little slide door, its easy to slide but I prefer to step over. The latch kinda sticks. I also needed a dog door so I actually made one myself with this gate and it was really easy! I know all the dog door long gates are super expensive. I hope this helps!jennifer
We bought this gate for an 89inch entryway between our dining room and living room and it works perfectly. Installation was fast and easy and it has held up to all of my kids banging on it and shaking it and whatever it is that kids typically do. the metal bracket screwed into the gate at the bottom is a little bent from their activity but I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon, bent, but still works perfectly. We don't have any problems opening it and closing it, it might be a little tricky when I am in a hurry but still only takes a few seconds. My 3 1/2 years old did open it once unassisted but he hasn't tried it since, I'd imagine its pretty tricky for most kids especially for the ones younger than 3. We bought this for our 1 year old and I wished I had bought it sooner!! I love that it condenses and swings open both directions, can be opened from either end, and that it would be very easy to put away for when guests come over if need be. This is a quality gate and as another reviewer mentioned, I should have bought this months ago. The gate opens smoothly in both directions, and you can easily fold sections together to fit a smaller opening. I'm using it to help my youngest dog (12 lb puppy) consistently potty outside by creating a small area near their dog door. I moved my chair and computer in that area to keep an eye on things — and she can't sneak off to potty inside. So far so good! I've been looking for a while to find a gate that would fit my space. I have a 66in opening. They all look great then you read the specs. 4 panels that are 28in wide. Well that wont work. I bought this gate to confine my dog in the kitchen which has a large open doorway. It fit well into the space and looked nice. Installation was pretty easy although I had to screw into drywall so if I were keeping the gate I would need to purchase anchors for the screws to ensure stability. For the most part this gate was just what I expected and I was initially happy with my purchase although the door was sometimes difficult to open with one hand. Unfortunately I have an incredibly agile dog and within a day of the gate being up she figured out that she could easily jump right over it. Will be returning the gate since it doesn't fulfill its intended purpose with my dog. I am sure it would work very well for dogs who are not able to jump so high.LuvMyShiba

These are very high quality durable and useful gates. There are tiny rubber pads under so you know which side to grab after putting away and the ease of the hinges are excellent. They are heavy enough to let the pet know it's stable and it's not a easy move with a nose plus the size and amount of panels make the setting of your area customized to the fit. I actually will buy more so I can use them out on the patio. Our dog understands boundaries and seems satisfied to see us until the entry is opened. I bought one brown which is a nice dark walnut color brown and a white one which both have a nice what I would describe as an enameled type gloss finish for protective wear. I am very happy with this gate!!! I easily figured out how to install it all by myself. It looks nice, gate opens and closes smoothly, will stay open, and locks securely. Instructions say that if you install perfectly, gate will close and latch by itself. Mine swings closed by itself but I have to lift it slightly and place it in a locked position. No amount of adjusting has changed that. However, I think it is great without latching by itself! It's kept my puppy and dog in one area when I choose, and that has solved a lot of behaviors when roaming the whole house. The bronze color is dark, almost black. I hoped it would appear brown.
Prior to finding this gate, I was using a kiddie gate to keep my two dogs from getting down the hallway into the bedroom area. It was one of those wooden frame types that slide open and have the tension bar to lock it in place. It was such a hassle every time I needed to go through it! When I saw this one with the swinging gate, I HAD to have it! It was fairly easy to install (I'm a 69 year old woman and I did it myself) and once set up it was extremely easy to use. You just lightly lift up the gate to disengage the bottom locking device and go through. It swings back into position when you let it go. There is also a "stay open" position in both directions by merely opening the gate wider. Snow delayed delivery, so the gate arrived today. You only need one person to install, and you have an option of drilling provided screws in the wall Forum or permit placement or using stick-on pads there removable. Since I live in an apartment I chose the latter. Tension is how the frame stays up, however atypical apartment bathroom or bedroom door frame is barely wide enough to fit this in. Because of that, and because the top of this gate is wider than the bottom trying to screw all four screws evenly is quite a task. Is Nana 23 stated it is quite difficult to get enough space but twisting by hand to get the tool they provide into the grooves and be able to tighten it further. I wish they had design that would grip the outside too. Once assembled, it looks very aesthetically pleasing, as a dark brown painted metal, which to me is much more preferred than plastic. 4 or 9 year old, 12 lb cat, this gate has already been able to prevent her from going where she does not belong. For those wanting to use a gate in a hallway or a wider doorway, it comes with two additional metal extensions, and pigs they hold it together are quite substantial and made of metal as well. This gate is just adorable! We have a little yorkie and shes satisfied when the gate it up because she can still see what I am doing. The little paw print cut outs at the top are so cute. I came fully assembled which was a plus. Its a fairly good size also. If you have a large entryway like we do going into our kitchen, then 2 of these would do the trick. It is quite heavy also, not flimsy like a few others that I tried out. So VERY satisfied with this purchase! Well worth the money!TerriBeth
Looks just like the photos. Not hard to put together, similar to Ikea stuff. Feels decently solid. Plenty of room inside for an XL box if you don't use the divider. The kitties have yet to try it out. I know my non-neurotic cat will be fine with it, just hope the other one doesn't try to pee in weird places out of spite.Jay Ess

The gate works well. The materials are good. Gets a bit flimsey at full extension. Install directions were adequate. Holes to attach the 2 sections were slightly misaligned and required is to drill one of them out slightly to allow the hardware to be installed on both top and bottom.Tommy2X
I love this gate, especially for the price! I had to cover an 8 foot area and its perfect. My little one is 1 1/2 and he likes to shake it. Each end is connected into studs so it wiggles but its secure. Both sides have a little slide door, its easy to slide but I prefer to step over. The latch kinda sticks. I also needed a dog door so I actually made one myself with this gate and it was really easy! I know all the dog door long gates are super expensive. I hope this helps!jennifer
We bought this gate for an 89inch entryway between our dining room and living room and it works perfectly. Installation was fast and easy and it has held up to all of my kids banging on it and shaking it and whatever it is that kids typically do. the metal bracket screwed into the gate at the bottom is a little bent from their activity but I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon, bent, but still works perfectly. We don't have any problems opening it and closing it, it might be a little tricky when I am in a hurry but still only takes a few seconds. My 3 1/2 years old did open it once unassisted but he hasn't tried it since, I'd imagine its pretty tricky for most kids especially for the ones younger than 3. We bought this for our 1 year old and I wished I had bought it sooner!! I love that it condenses and swings open both directions, can be opened from either end, and that it would be very easy to put away for when guests come over if need be. I was worried how our overweight cat would be able to cope with this gate since it is taller than the 24 inch one she is used to but she manages.kdlovesreviews

After reading reviews and description, I purchased this free-standing gate to keep my 25lb cockerpoo from carpeted areas. I have come home on numerous occasions to find my cockerpoo on the opposite side. She is able to use her paw to pull the section forward to open the gate due to dual hinge system. Additionally the gate latch has already broken so the gate doesn't latch securely. Who knew a 25lb cockerpoo could do so much to a gate advertised with a large dog? I have never written a review before, but am not satisfied with this as it does not uphold the quality I expect from FrontgateJsme
My beloved older boy dog decided that the dining room rug needed to be anointed as his. After getting the rug cleaned twice and now having to plan to refinish my hardwood floor I needed a barrier. This is a beautiful gate, I bought the off white finish to blend into my cream hardwood floors. First, this is the quality I have come to expect from frontgate, second the packing alone was a work of art, Due to other reviews I expected chips or bubbles in the finish but the gate is absolutely perfect. It's a painted finish. I assume it will chip eventually but it's well made, sturdy, elegant for a gate. Put it this way, I am thrilled Frontgate had a very cosmetically acceptable solution to my very big problem!! Highly recommended!gryffin
Pictures do not do this pet gate justice! Since it spans across my foyer, I was hesitant on purchasing a ready made gate. I knew Frontgate was known for high end items, but I was still hesitant to order sight unseen. When it arrived, it was already assembled (a plus already!), and once put in place it was just beautiful and adds to the space instead of chopping it up. It's beautifully stained, real metal bars, magnetic gate with easy to open double locks and very sturdy. The bonus is you can position it as a crate or playpen for the pets. We searched a number of sites for a stable, wooden, attractive gate to protect our blind dog from taking a fall down the stairs. This gate is exactly what we needed. It is easy to open one of the panels for trips up and down the stairs while protecting Max from an accidental tumble and possible injury.lindae1
I bought one of the small 3-panel gates last year, and it was beautiful and very sturdy (still looks great and holding up well). We needed a second one to put at the bottom of the stairs, so ordered one this last November. First, it took 6 weeks to arrive (but everything takes forever these days, so no problem). BUT when I opened it, the entire thing was scratched up, one hinge was broken, and it was filthy! Like actually covered in dust and dirt. It was packed very well, so it didn't happen in transit. Someone actually packaged it up and sent it out in this condition. I called customer service, and they told me to send it back for a replacement. OK, here comes gate #2 (again over a month later), and its all scratched up too, gouges, and once again, dirty! I couldn't believe it. I sent pictures to customer service email and spoke with customer service who assured me the next replacement would be inspected prior to shipment. How could this happen twice? So here comes replacement gate #3 (this one only took 3 weeks to arrive). You guessed it… not as bad as the first two, but still pretty bad. Scratches, areas where there was no paint, and the wood itself looked to be pitted and gouged underneath the paint- like they used bad wood and just tried to paint over it. I'm done. Do not order these gates. It appears they have a huge lot of these terrible gates and are just going to keep sending them out until they're gone. Run!Pookie3
Plus: Looks great, matches our trim paint, low enough to easily step over and not have to move it. Con: It immediately broke. Wood split in two places and hinge screws fell out. They don’t have anymore of the low ones, so I’m keeping it and zip tying the hinges. Doesn’t look great. So wish they had more!BetsyF
