Welcome to
Almost Home Dachshund Rescue
Society (AHDRS). Thanks for stopping by! We are a network of independent rescue volunteers who work together to rescue abandoned, abused, and unwanted dachshunds. We provide medical and behavioral care for them, place them in loving homes, and work out transports to get them to their new families. AHDRS is a nonprofit organization, so all contributions are tax-deductible.

Almost Home Dachshund Rescue
Society is not affiliated with any other group using
"Almost Home" in its name. A number of all-breed
rescue groups that were founded after AHDRS now use
"Almost Home" in their names, and some of their Web
site addresses are similar to ours. AHDRS is an
independent national dachshund rescue organization
that was founded in 2001. |

2008 is off to a busy start with
dogs needing the help of Almost Home and our
supporters.
Take a look at SNOOPY, an adorable
five-year-old who was scheduled to be euthanized due
to back problems. Tiny little FRANKIE has
suffered through severe urinary tract infections and
undergone surgery to get her healthy again.
Your contribution will help us cover the costs of
saving Snoopy’s life and help the rescuer who took
on the vet bills to make Frankie healthy again. All
donations make a difference to these dogs, no matter
how large or small. Please help. Click on the photos
to see the dogs who need help now.

Meet
Jim and Leslie Ingram of North Carolina, who have rescued hundreds of dachshunds
since joining AHDRS not long after the organization was founded. If you live
anywhere near them, you might know Jim as Rescue Santa or as the guy who, armed
with his trusty pooper scooper, cleans up your yard. Or maybe you've met Jim and
Leslie at one of the adoption events they do twice a month, or at the annual
North Carolina Wiener Roast that they help organize every year. If you haven't
met them, click here
and get to know two of our most active rescuers! |
GIVE ONE OF OUR SENIOR DOGS A HOME!
We have some wonderful senior dogs available for adoption. Please consider
giving one of these wonderful dogs a home. If you think that taking an older dog
into your home is just trouble and heartache, read the stories on our
Adopt a Senior Dog and
Happy Tails pages to find out how
rewarding adopting a senior can be. Then take a look at the dogs on
the Available Dogs page. These sweet
dachshunds didn't deserve to end up homeless after years of being faithful
companions. They just want a soft lap, a warm blanket, and some belly rubs.
Please think about giving one of them a loving home. |

THIS IS WHAT YOU SUPPORT WHEN YOU BUY A PUPPY AT A PET
STORE!

Mary Ann, recently rescued from a lifetime in a puppy
mill, has enormous physical and emotional wounds. Read her story
HERE. |

Almost Home frequently receives donations with a note from the donor saying that the contribution is in memory of a beloved dog who has passed over Rainbow Bridge. We have decided to provide a way to honor the pets who have touched our lives on our web site. If you would like to memorialize a pet on the Dachshund Memorial Page, click
